Cost of FCP 5.1 UPGRADE

I am using 5.04 and want to upgrade, not update to 5.1. I am getting conflicting information on the cost. Some postings here say $99.00 and apple on the phone says $699.00.
Does anyone know for certain and if so..what would be the exact url for to pay $99.00...can not afford $700.00!

The $99 price was a crossgrade price that was available for over a year. Sorry you missed it.
Now, I'd say wait until after the middle of April and see if something new comes out with a different upgrade option.
Only a guess... I KNOW NOTHING. All I know is Apple will make some announcement at or around 15 April about something that might be what you are asking.
Maybe.
But missing the crossgrade option... you're gonna be upset about that. Sorry.

Hey there people: Just received the FCP Studio 3 upgrade from FCP Studio 2, and the tiny manual that comes with it. Are the FCP Studio 2 manuals good for detail about FCP 3?

The complete set of FCP and studio documentation is accessible from the Mac Help system just by holding the Home button. You do not need to have FCP open at all. The problem with Mac Help is the window comes forward and blocks all underlying windows making it difficult or impossible to perform the operations described.
Being able to open the documentation in Preview or Acrobat is remarkably useful (excellent chapters, bookmarking, indexing, searching not available in Mac Help) so downloading the PDF versions is not only a good idea, it might be exactly the solution you need.
And the documentation is so a "user manual."

The two places I knew about have sold out. (fwiw - these were new retail, not upgrade). Your best bet may be finding someone on craigslist or ebay who is switching to Avid or Premiere and getting rid of the FCS suite. Buyer beware and all that.

How to install from FCP 1 via upgrades to FCP 3 on new G4

I finally bought a new Powerbook G4 to replace my G3 350. (It really is it quite a bit better... Amazing how things have come along in six years...)
Anyway, I started with FCP when it first came out with version 1 and bought upgrades for 2 and 3 which I used on my G3.
How do I get version 3 onto my G4 ? Version 1 will not install in "classic" mode on the G4 and therfore I can not install and use the upgrade discs to get to version 3 on my G4. I tried dragging the whole version 3 applicaion over from my old computer and put the preferences into the OS9 preferences folder with no luck.
Is it actually possible to get FCP onto this computer with the discs I have (original version1, upgrade 2, upgrade 3) ?

Contact Apple to get a new installer CD for FCP 3.
One of my friends had this problem, and he received a new CD.
(I'm not sure if Apple still does this kind of upgrades, but you can try)

I recommend that you upgrade FCP 4 or 5 then you only have to enter the old s/n during the installation.

FCP 7.0 upgrade problem recognizing serial number

I am upgrading from FCP 6.0.6 to 7.0 on my new MacBook Pro but I can't get the installation disc to recognize the serial number. If I enter an incorrect number it will immediately say so, but when I enter the correct number I just get the spinning wheel. I've tried reinserting the disc, restarting the computer, etc. etc. but nothing will get it past the serial number page. The computer meets all the system requirements for 7.0. Also, I did successfully use the 7.0 disc to upgrade FCP on my MacPro desktop machine so I know the installation disc is not defective. Any ideas?

Thanks but that did not solve the problem. So, I went back in and uninstalled FCP 6.0.1 (following instructions on the Apple site) and reinstalled it. FCP 6.0.1 works fine but the upgrade still fails to get past the serial number input. I have another 7.0 upgrade disc here at work so I tried it to be sure it's not a problem with the disc. I did get a different result with the other disc: after inputting the 7.0 serial number, another prompt opened and asked me to input the original serial number for 6.0, which I inputted. Then it too went into spinning wheel mode. It must be searching for something and can't find it???

FCP Studio 2 upgrade question (upgrade to FCP Studio 3)

Final Cut license allows a one-time permanent transfer to another party. One of my customers would like to transfer their Final Cut Studio 2 license to me in lieu of payment. I would upgrade to Final Cut Studio 3, but they upgraded from FCP 4 to FCP 5 and can't find their original serial. I've got the FCP 5 (Studio 2) license serial number.
Question: Will the FCP Studio 3 installer want the FCP 4 license, or will it be happy with the upgraded FCP 5 serial?

No go. You need the original s/n from a *full price retail version*. Even FCP 1 will do.

FCP 6.03 upgrade

I'm trying to open a friends file create on a different Mac.
But, I can't seem to find a link to 6.03. Can anyone help me with that?

What to install first: Snow Leopard or FCP Studio 3 upgrade

Ok, I will be finishing a big video project soon and will finally be able to upgrade to Snow and FCP Studio 3. I was wondering would upon the order of those installations, and whether or not it mattered in terms of optimization of FCS's performance? So, being that Snow is a complete rewrite under the hood, would it be better to do that first then install FCS upgrade on top of that, or the reverse?

So I was at the apple store yesterday and I tried to get a diagnosis on my iphone 3g which is not responding to touch.
It got wet and it simply isn't working properly. It works when it wants to work and other times it spazzes out. The apple genius dude offered me two choices:
Pay $150 to fix my iphone 3g or Pay $200 to get a total upgrade to the iphone 5.
The iphone 5 is so hard to get your hands on. The reason for that is mainly the price being unaffordable. He said TWO HUNDRED little dollars to upgrade from my iphone3g to an iphone 5. Sadly I didn't have $200 on me so I couldn't afford it!If I save up $200 return to the apple store and ask for an upgrade will it still cost ONLY $200? Im in disbelief, is he kidding? Only $200 dollars? Is this a limited time offer? What if I came back in december around christmas time, would it stll only cost me $200 for the iphone 5 since I already own an iphone 3g? All I do is simply ask for an upgrade and that's all it's gunna cost me? It sounds to good to be true, so it must be a lie!
Is the apple store open on Christmas day?

Apple do not offer upgrades on the iPod Touch. They will give you 10% off (as a trade-in) if you give them an old iPod. However, offering them two iPods will not give you any more off their price.
For prices, check in your local store, online if you wish. Click the Store link at the top of this page. If you are not already in your country's store, change to it (click on the Select a Country at the bottom of the Store's page). Then you will see prices for your country, as opposed to mine.

FCP Problems after upgrade to Snow Leopard

I recently upgraded my system to Snow Leopard and am running smoothly in all aspect now, except for FCP. It goes to the spinning wheel everytime I try to use the "Edit to Tape" function. I have been able to delete the preferences each time I use it to get it to let me lay off a clip but I need a permanent fix. I upgraded my atto driver also but it's still giving me problems.
Anyone else have any ideas? Would like to avoid completely reinstalling it, but may have to.

You haven't given us anywhere near enough information to help you.
You mention an ATTO driver, but nothing about the external drive array. You don't tell us what version of Final Cut this is. You never say what format the sequence is and if there are any clips of any other codecs in the Timeline. You don't even hint as to whether you've tried this in other projects or sequences.
What other troubleshooting have you done? It's frustrating to make a suggestion and then the OP replies, "I've already tried that."
Help us to help you, please.

The most cost-effective long-term solution, Upgrade or Buy Newer Computer?

I am looking for the most cost-effective long term solution for me as an self-employed interior designer. I need help making a decision: Is it reasonable to upgrade my iBook G4 (RAM, operating system)(+bigger hard drive)(+buy new rechargeable battery)(+buy new portable power adapter)?; or do I need to abandon it and buy a newer apple computer (0-2 years old)?

I think that decision would depend on how you plan to use this laptop. In addition it would depend on your client base and the image you need to project.
I used to be a commercial producer. If I was still doing that today I'd need to project a successful up to date image. My clients at the large agencies were/are attracted to the latest technologies. I would have the hippest iPhone apps and probably a 15" Unibody MacBook Pro.
I have a pro photographer client who wanted to buy an iMac a few years back but I insisted she buy a Mac Pro with at least two of the largest Cinema Monitors she could afford.
She has thanked me multiple times since she says her clients are so impressed with her images when she displays them on those large monitors.
So it would depend on how you're using the laptop and your client base.
The first thing I see with your iBook is that your RAM is pretty minimal. If you update that would be the first thing to do.
This is actually the iBook that I use and for me it's very cost effective. They're both 1.2 GHz machines. I use a 14" around the house and a !2" when we're traveling. It is very cost effective for me as I purchased them broken for under $125 total. I use salvaged drives and RAM. It works for me since my business is repair and the clients are impressed how well my 5 year old iBook works.

I can no longer render in FCP 6 after upgrading to an AMD Radeon HD 7970 3072 MB

Hey,
I purchased a AMD Radeon HD 7970 3072 MB that was modified to work on a Mac from MacVideoCards.com.
I'm editing with FCP 6 and I find that I'm unable to render files anymore.
I get the specific effect name followed by error.
Would this be related to the card and would you know how to fix this?
I've also notice when I start the computer up, it stays on the grey screen longer than it did when I had the original card (512 mb).
I had my 2.26 8 core converted to a 3.46 12 core.
I currently have 32 GB of ram 1333 MHz.
1tb Hard drive.
I'm also running OS X 10.9.5.
If you could be any assistance I'd appreciate it.

I think you are sailing in uncharted waters with those kind of modifications.
I am only guessing, but if you have not already done so, do a PRAM reset and then trash your FCP preferences.

My understanding is the Mac is doing a ram/hardware test during the grey screen, if the card you added had additional memory, then it is very likely the test will take longer - but I am no hardware expert.

Are you worried about the negative publicity about FCP X?
Unless you are a top Broadcast/Hollywood editor working with a team of others, you will have no problems.
The complained about deficiencies only apply to teams of editors using specialised workflows.
Amateurs, prosumers and most professionals will find the app excellent.
So you can go ahead and get the new iMac . . . . . together with FCP X of course!

FCP 5.1 upgrade

Stupid question, but I've been away....I have FCP 5.0.2 running on a G5 Power PC, do I really need to send my Final Cut Pro Studio discs back to Apple in order to go to 5.1.2?

Send the disks back registered mail and insured if you are concerned about them.
It seems to take around 2 weeks turnaround from what I've read around here. Mine took 10 days.

I have plunked down a couple of euros a few years ago to get Final Cut Pro Studio (v5.1).
Is there a way I can "convert" or "trade in" my FCP Studio for FCPX?

No. FCP X is a completely new application, sold only through the Mac App Store. There is no upgrade from old versions. Anyway, in the old days even an upgrade would cost at least as much as the whole cost of FCP X...
