Count(*) of non numeric rows

Hi Guys,
hope you can help me once more.
How can I do a count of rows that do not have numeric values.
Example:
I have 2 hotel chains, for example KI and MC and I want to count the number of hotels that each chains has.
I can simply create a table report, but I can not use the Sum function, because of course the hotels are not numeric values.
I saw the function count*, but did not manage to use it properly.
the report should show:
Chain Hotel
KI AB
CD
DE
Total 3
MC FG
HI
Total 2
Can you please help me?

If you have report with just chain hotel column and that is dimension attribute that is higher level (hotel is child) then you can use like this:
Total Chain
3 KI
2 MC
Hotel chain KI has 3 hotels and MC 2. Calculation for total column is COUNT(*) or COUNT(1).
If you have report with chain hotel column and child hotel column and you want to count how many hotels are below chain then you can use like this:
Total Chain Hotel
3 KI AB
3 KI CD
3 KI DE
2 MC FG
2 MC HI
Calculation for total column is count(1 by YourHotelChainColumn). Total means that there is a 3 hotels below KI chain for example.

    Hi Experts,
    When setting up an ALV table as a table hierarchy the standard ALV settings only seem to allow for numeric values to be displayed in the higher hierarchy levels. Is there a way to also set the values for some non-numeric columns into these higher-level rows - programmatically or through the ALV Settings?
    Example: I have delivery item level data in my context and the delivery number as a hierarchy column. Some columns in my context however actually come from the delivery header e.g. delivery block, delivery priority, ship-to etc and I would like to display these in the collapsed header rows of the delivery number.
    It seems obvious to me that this should be doable otherwise if you are looking at at a list of hundreds of deliveries and all you see besides the delivery number is numeric data such as sums & totals, it's kind of hard to know which delivery you might want to expand the sub-level for.

    Even we have faced the same issue.
    In ALV hierarchy, we cannot display data at header items/levels. this is a constraint in ALV. You can achieve the same usign TABLE UI element.

    When you are converting a string to a date, you have specified that the date is being passed in DD-MM-YYYY format. But you have passed the date in DD-MON-YYYY format. As the month is expected as a number by oracle, but you have passed a character, oracle is unable to translate the string to a number.
    Do one of the following:
    SQL> select to_date('20-JAN-2010', 'DD-MON-YYYY') from dual
    2 /
    TO_DATE
    20-JAN-2010
    OR
    SQL> select to_date('20-10-2010', 'DD-MM-YYYY') from dual

    TO_DATE

    I'll cut introductions short. We're trying to read data from a flat file (OWB ver.9.2. by the way). After successfully mapping, then generating (with two insignificant warnings), we execute.
    Although it says the execution was 'successful', more than a dozen errors return in the form of ORA-01858: a non-numeric character found where a digit was expected
    a - Here is the error:
    Record 1: Rejected - Error on table "TOPSSTAGE"."FLTR_DCS_IRREG", column "OPERATIVE_FLIGHT_LEG_DATE".
    ORA-01858: a non-numeric character was found where a numeric was expected
    *it's actually repeated 20 times (Record 1, Record 2, and so on and so forth...) with the same exact error description and details.
    b - Here's the part of the OWB-generated script that defines the creation of that field/column:
    "OPERATIVE_FLIGHT_LEG_DATE" DATE "mm/dd/yyyy"
    c - And here's the data from the flat file (1 of 4 rows)

    Yes, I believe you are right. And yes that column is designated a primary key. The weird thing is, we do have null values being entered into the table from the flat file, but these values are far from the "OPERATIVE_FLIGHT_LEG_DATE" column (index-wise). Let me give you an example of our case:
    this is a row in the flat file: (sample data only)

    as you can see, I've made the 'null' values bold, as well as the data for OPERATIVE_FLIGHT_LEG_DATE (which shows up, as you can see, at the end of the row).
    Now, in the OWB table, the OPERATIVE_FLIGHT_LEG_DATE column is set as a primary key (or foreign, i think, I'll check again) and, thus, is set as one of those columns to first receive data transferred from the flat file.
    We see nothing wrong with our mask (which is mm/dd/yyyy by the way) as well as with our data type settings. It has to be with the flat file I guess. We're gonna try putting in dummy values in place of the null ones in the flat file. I'll get back to you asap. Thanks for helping out. :D

    Hi is it possible to have non numeric measures in a cube?? As i get an error during deployment of mapping of this cube if i have non numeric measures in a cube ....

    Normally a measure should perform an aritmetic operation, like a sum( price paid ), or average( processing duration ). With a non-numeric measure you could do count, count distinct and that's about it. Non-numeric measure makes little sense, in my opinion a non-numeric property of a measure is a dimension.

  • Non-numeric Measures in fact table

    I have been told measures should be numeric items from the fact table i base my cube on. Yet some of these columns are non-numeric. Reports are asking me to tally up the totals for these boolean measures in my reports. Has anyone done this before? If I have a measure that is a 'Y' or a 'N', how do I total up the numbers for each in Analytic Workspace Manager?

    I am attempting to understand. In AWM, I will have a
    dimension. The hierarchy of this dimension will have
    2 levels...'Total' and 'YesorNo'
    Then I will map the column to that 2nd level?
    I don't quite understand. What about the measures?
    I have no measures currently. And these columns are
    e in the fact table...I can't map a text field to a
    level...plus there are also nulls in there in the
    form of other letters (ie '0').
    Any more clarification would help significantly.

    then simply map the "YesorNo" column to Aggregate table (use proper operation such as SUM, COUNT, DISTINCT etc in Agg properties), and define the output as number. later u can map this agg.output to your cube table.

  • A non-numeric character was found ...  iAS 8 & ora 8.1.6

    I have a problem in iAS 8 and Oracle 8.1.6 under windows 2000.
    The problem is calling nested packages using plql gateway, I
    mean I call one package and it call's another package, this
    operation throws " a non-numeric character was found where a
    numeric was expected" even if the procedure only has one
    parameter, if you call nested procedures there are no errors, I
    had the same problem on Solaris, however changed databases and
    it dissapear, I thought that the problem was some
    NLS_PARAMETERS however now I'm not pretty sure.
    Any Ideas.

  • Non-numeric "S" rsnum's in ioel itab generated by MD_PROJECT_REPORT

    Usually, the rsnums in the ioel itab (output by MD_PROJECT_REPORT) are true numeric reservation numbers - they'll be in RESB unless they're internal reservation numbers that SAP MRP generates, rather than reservations created by the user planning process itself.
    But what about non-numeric rsnum's in the ioel itab?  These can and do exist because in the ioel structure, rsnum is defined as delnr (char 10), rather than as rsnum (numc 10.
    So my question is: what the hell are these non-numeric reservation numbers?
    Particularly those that start with S like "S38905u201D  ????

    OK - here's the answer - it's subtle.  IF MD_PROJECT_REPORT requires a matnr that's also attached to a sales order (as well as a planned order/prod order/network), the sales order info for the VC delkz will appear in the IOEL itab generated by MD_PROJECT_REPORT.
    But such IOEL itab rows are not really relevant to the project report - i.e. you won't see sales orders in MD4C itself when you run it on the project, not the sales order.
    So, now I know how to handle these critters ...

  • Non Numeric found where a Nnumeric was expected

    We are using VB6 as frount end and Oracle8.05 as backend.
    We use stored procedures for all truncations.
    Some time some of the procedures return error saying that A Non-
    numeric is found where a numeric was expected. If I trace that
    error through Documentation there it say's use Date format as DD-
    MON-YYYY. We are using that format only. Do you know how that
    error we are trapping? Just compile the procedure and it will
    work and same error will repeat after a 2 to 3 weeks. I have no
    idea why it behaves like this.
    I have also set these parameter's
    NLS_DATE_FORMAT = "DD-MON-YYYY"
    NLS_DATE_LANGUAGE="AMERICAN"
    If you have any idea about this please let me know.

    Yes, I believe you are right. And yes that column is designated a primary key. The weird thing is, we do have null values being entered into the table from the flat file, but these values are far from the "OPERATIVE_FLIGHT_LEG_DATE" column (index-wise). Let me give you an example of our case:
    this is a row in the flat file: (sample data only)
    "2/20/2007","I","0899","N","TPE","MNL","0","0","0","0","0","0","0","0","0","0","0","0","0","0","0","0","0","750","950","746","955"," P3231",,"04","32","32",,,,,,,,"758","946",,"A000","4","D000","5","000","0","0","0","0","D","P","0","0","0","0","0","0","0","0","0","0","0","2/22/2007","000","012","144","2/20/2007","2/20/2007"
    as you can see, I've made the 'null' values bold, as well as the data for OPERATIVE_FLIGHT_LEG_DATE (which shows up, as you can see, at the end of the row).
    Now, in the OWB table, the OPERATIVE_FLIGHT_LEG_DATE column is set as a primary key (or foreign, i think, I'll check again) and, thus, is set as one of those columns to first receive data transferred from the flat file.
    We see nothing wrong with our mask (which is mm/dd/yyyy by the way) as well as with our data type settings. It has to be with the flat file I guess. We're gonna try putting in dummy values in place of the null ones in the flat file. I'll get back to you asap. Thanks for helping out. :D
