Counting number of files in ID

Hello Experts,
                   I have a scenario where a job runs weekly and creates 6 files on one of the prod folders in a legacy system. The files are FTPd to PI. Before picking the files we need to ensure that the count for the files on that folder is 6. If it is 6 or greater then we can pick all those 6 files and send it across to PI (also with archiving it on another folder structure in the legacy system) where PI will send it to another system. If the count is less than 6, then we do not need to do any thing. If count 6 is reached and the files are picked, reset the counter to 0.
    So for this scenario do we need to use a BPM or we can manage with the "Run OS Command...." option??. If any of you have come across such a scenario, then pls let me know the solution. Current version of PI is 7.1 .
     Points to best answer/solution will be given.
Thanks.

Hi, This is just sample script you can reference:
Script_1:
Dim objFileScripting, objFolder
Dim filename, filecollection, currentFolder,counter
currentFolder = ActiveDocument.Path
On Error Resume Next
Set objFileScripting = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
Set objFolder = objFileScripting.GetFolder(currentFolder)
Set filecollection = objFolder.Files
        For Each filename In filecollection
          counter = counter+1
        Next
if counter = 6 then
        For Each filename In filecollection
          objFileScripting.CopyFile filename,"..\Folder_1\" & filename
        Next
else
      call sendmail("mailaddress", "Title Here","Content Here")
endif
set  objFileScripting = nothing
     set objFolder = nothing
     set filecollection = nothing
'This function is used to send out email notification, the usage are like:
'call sendmail("mailaddress", "Title Here","Content Here")
Function sendmail (recipient, title,  message)
Dim oLapp
Dim oItem
Set oLapp = CreateObject("Outlook.application" )
Set oItem = oLapp.CreateItem(0)
With oItem
.To = recipient
.Subject = title
.Body = message
End With
oItem.Send
Set oLapp = Nothing
Set oItem = Nothing
end function
Script_2: scheduler
Dim ws
On Error Resume Next
set ws = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
ws.Run ("script_1.vbs")
while 1 = 1
   WScript.Sleep 1000*60*60       'sleep 1 hour, run your first script every 1 hour
   ws.Run ("script_1.vbs")
Wend
set ws = nothing
Make sure in your source system, you have outlook mail setup there.
Put the two scripts in folder_2, to check the number of files
Regards.

  • How to count number of files on zfs filesystem

    Hi all,
    Is there a way to count the number of files on a zfs filesystem similar to how "df -o i /ufs_filesystm" works? I am looking for a way to do this without using find as I suspect there are millions of files on a zfs filesystem that is causing slow performance sometimes on a particular zfs file system
    Thanks.

    So I have finished 90% of my testing and I have accepted _df -t /filesystem | awk ' { if ( NR==1) F=$(NF-1) ; if ( NR==2) print $(NF-1) - F }'_ as acceptable in the absence of a known built in zfs method. My main conern was with the reduction of available files from the df -t output as more files were added. I used a one liner for loop to just create empty files to conserve on space used up so I would have a better chance of seeing what happens if the available files reached 0.
    root@fj-sol11:/zfstest/dir4# df -t /zfstest | awk ' { if ( NR==1) F=$(NF-1) ; if ( NR==2) print $(NF-1) - F }'

    I noticed the total files kept increasing and the creation of 4 millions files (4494264) after the above example was taking up more time than I had after already creating 12 million plus ( _12359601_ ) which took 2 days on a slow machine on and off (mostly on). If anyone has any idea of creating them quicker than "touch filename$loop" in a for loop let me know :)
    In the end I decided to use a really small file system 100mb on a virtual machine to test what happens as the free files approached 0. Turns out if never does ... it somehow increased
    bash-3.00# df -t /smalltest/
    /smalltest (smalltest ): 31451 blocks *31451* files

    bash-3.00# cd dir4
    bash-3.00# for arg in {1..47084}; do touch file$arg; done <--- I created 47084 files here, more that the free listed above ( *31451* )

    total: 112640 blocks 309887 files
    bash-3.00#
    The other 10% of my testing will be to see what happens when I try to a find on 12 million plus files and try to pipe it to wc -l :)

  • Counting number of files read by File adapter

    I have configured a file adapter in a BPEL prcs to read files from a location. The adapter is polling files with a specific file ext(say txt). Is it possible to know the number of files read by the BPEL prcs at the end of the day??? i,e.
    is it possible that a BPEL instance after reading a file updates the count in a variable and this variable value is seen by other BPEL instances and the other instances can also update the value....
    Any pointers will be helpful...
    Thanks

    You could make use of some logtable and log it inhere.
    In the bpel after a file is pickup up, read this value from the table, add 1 to it, and write it back.
    Or try this approach from Lucas :

  • How to count number of files in a folder?

    The folder "_Current Assets" has 16 .wav files and nothing else. I'd like Applescript to get this number.
    Below, the code that changed between trials is in bold
    *Code tried:*
    _Trial 1:_
    set theFolder to "Macintosh HD:Users:dannykalman:Desktop:_Current Assets"
    set numberOfAudioFiles to count of files in theFolder
    display dialog numberOfAudioFiles
    dialog says: 0
    _Trial 2:_
    set theFolder to "Macintosh HD:Users:dannykalman:Desktop:_Current Assets"
    set numberOfAudioFiles to count of items in theFolder
    display dialog numberOfAudioFiles
    dialog says: 56
    _Trial 3:_
    set theFolder to "Macintosh HD:Users:mr:Desktop:_Current Assets"
    set numberOfAudioFiles to count of *(files whose kind is "WAVE Audio File")* in theFolder
    display dialog numberOfAudioFiles
    dialog says: Can’t get every file of "Macintosh HD:Users:dannykalman:Desktop:_Current Assets".
    I'm out of ideas : (. What would you suggest?
    Thank you so much!

    It worked because the path is in the correct syntax. BTW, the count is correct without the -1. Every folder that's been opened has a hidden .DS_Store file (which gets counted) that contains all of its properties, such as view, size, and location. Use the -1 if you want to suppress that file; however, it will count any other hidden ones. For AppleScript queries, use this forum. I had the Hosts move this post to it.

    Hi Folks
    I need to programatically count the number of files in a given folder and return the value to a Program Unit to be included in further processing.

  • [Win VC++ 6.0 ]How to get the number of files count in a folder using VC++ 6.0?

    I'm a little confused by the question, but it sounds like you're asking how to count the number of files with a particular extension in a given directory? That's not really an AI SDK question, but it's a fairly easy one to find if you google it. If you're trying to use Illustrator to do it, AI doesn't have a general purpose file API. It has a few functions to do some things that Illustrator needs, but I don't think enumerating directories is one of them.

  • Need help to count number of rows and display in file

    Hello,
    my scenario is IDOC to File......i am using XSLT mapping and using FCC parameters to convert the flat file.
    now new requirement is i need to count number of rows and add count value last of the file.
    Please let me know how to do it,
    thanks in advance for your help.

    thanks again, one more Q.
    in XSLT mapping i have written for loop for complete structure.
    example : <Details>
                         <node1>
                         <node2>
                   </details>
    in XSLT mapping
                         <xsl:for-each select="ZMATMAS_01/IDOC/E1MARAM">
         <Details>
         </Details>
         </xsl:for-each>
    if i add the field at target side....then i will come under details node and it will be repeated.
    how to declare in XSLT mapping.

  • Why does OS X Finder recognize a folder as a file when it counts the number of files?

    When I select a folder in Finder and click cmd+i(or cmd+option+i), it shows the number of files in the folder. However, that number is weird for me, because they count a folder itself as a file. For example, when I have a single file in my Download folder and I clicked cmd+i on Download folder, then the number of files in a inspection window is 2, not 1. It is because that number includes not only the file inside the folder, but also the folder itself. (Check the below image)
    This is not a big problem if there is no hierarchical structure in my folder. But, if I have thousands of files and folders inside, it is really hard to figure out how many files(not folders) are inside. I cannot understand why Mac OS X counts a folder as a file. In fact, a folder is not an actual file, just a container.
    So, is there any philosophy to do like this? Or is there any way to count only the number of actual files?

    Sorry byron1st
    there is no way to count only files in a folder.
    Finder will count everything inside, folders and files.
    Information about a folder will count the same.
    If there are no subsubfolders in one folder, maybe a little trick can help:
    Select list view for the open folder, close all subfolders.
    Type command+# to see the footer of the window, that counts (hopefully) only the closed subfolders (content) in the open folder.
    Remember the amount.
    Hold option and click on one triangle in front of one subfolder. All subfolders will be opened!
    The difference between amount a and amount b is the number of files (and subsubfolders, if unfortunately inside…).

  • Count files in Directory and the number of files in each sub directory

    Hello,
    I trying write a method which will start at a root of a file and count all the files in that directory. Then count all the files in each sub directory.
    import java.io.File;
    import java.io.FilenameFilter;
    import java.io.IOException;
    public class RunScan {
         * @param args
         public static void main(String[] args) {
              // TODO Auto-generated method stub
              File file = new File("/home/robert/count");
              File[] files = file.listFiles();
              traverse(files);
              printfiles();
         private static int totalNumFiles = 0;
         private static int totalNumDir = 0;
         private static int filePerDir = 0;
         private static int subDir = 0;
         private static void traverse(File[] files) {
    for(int i = 0; i < files.length; i++) {
    if(files.isDirectory()) {
         totalNumDir++;
         printDir(files[i].toString());
         traverse(files[i].listFiles());
    totalNumFiles++;
    filePerDir++;
         private static void printfiles(){
              System.out.println("total files "+ (totalNumFiles));
         System.out.println("totls sub dir "+ totalNumDir);
         private static void printDir(String dirName){
              System.out.println("Total Files in "+dirName+" "+filePerDir);
              filePerDir = 0;

    Hint: Google "visitor pattern." This gives clues how to build a re-usable solution that can you use for future traversals that do things other than just file counts. Here's a teaser of an simple interface:
    public interface TreeVisitor {
    * Processes a single file or directory. <em>Tip:</em> If you want to track the number of
    * items processed, this function is the best place to update a counter.
    * Implementors of this method should not throw checked exceptions.
    * @param item The file or directory process.
    * @param depth Number of levels below top of traversal tree (0 = top of tree).
    public void visit(File item, int depth);
    }

  • How do I find the number of file descriptors in use by the system?

    Hey folks,
    I am trying to figure out how many file descriptors my Leopard system has in use. On FreeBSD, this is exposed via sysctl at the OID kern.open_files (or something close to that, can't recall exactly what the name is). I do see that OS X has kern.maxfiles, which gives the maximum number of file descriptors the system can have open, but I don't see a sysctl that tells me how many of the 12288 descriptors the kernel thinks are in use.
    There's lsof, but is that really the only way? And, I'm not even sure if I can just equate the number of lines from lsof to the number of in use descriptors. I don't think it's that easy (perhaps it is and I'm just over complicating things).
    So, anyone know where this information is?
    Thanks for your time.

    glsmith wrote:

    Can't think of anything other than lsof right now. However:
    Only root can list all open files, all other users see only their own
    There is significant duplication, and
    All types of file descriptor are listed, which you may not want, so you need to consider filtering.
    As an example, the following will count all regular files opened by all users:
    sudo lsof | awk '/REG/ { print $NF }' | sort -u | wc -lIf you run it without the sudo, you get just your own open files.

  • Help using scanner class to count chars in file

    Hi all, I am learning Java right now and ran into a problem. I need to use the Scanner class to accurately count the number of chars in a file including the line feed chars 10&13.
    This what I have and it currently reports a 201 byte file as having 194 chars:
         File file = new File(plainFile);
         Scanner inputFile = new Scanner(file);
         numberOfChars = 0;
         String line;
         //count characters in file
         while (inputFile.hasNextLine())
              line = inputFile.nextLine();
              numberOfChars += line.length();
    I know there are other ways using BufferedReader, etc but I have to use Scanner class to do this.
    Thanks in advance!

    hello i want to create a small VI that can count number of particles from a image that i load up. please see the attached image of particles and the VI printshot.
    I have used the tutorial "counting number of particles" but still the above VI does not work. it shows the number of particles = 1.. I do not know why it is doing so??
    I am not an expert in Labview so please can someone tell me where the problem is. sorry i could not attach the VI file itself but i have given an image of it..
    after anyone has solved this problem, i have to create a live system that will get live images from the camera - four frames every sec and the above VI has to count the
    number of particles for each frame and output to the user?? is this possible can anyone do it for me???
    p.s. in the above VI i read the image from file and count the number of particles. i do not do it to the binary image becuase the binary image is only a black screen
    when i run it
    thankyou

    Hi Farhan,
    Vision Assistant would be the best option to create some steps which you can then export to LabVIEW. You should try using the IMAQ Find Circles.vi. The attached image helps you find the number of circles of an image acquired from a camera. I have used the IMAQdx VIs in this example.

    Hi everyone,
    While opening a file in Adobe reader 10 in Windows 7,I am getting the error as
    "The maximum number of files are already open.No Other files can be opened or printed until some are closed."
    Can Anyone help or suggest a setting for this ?
    Thanks in Advance
    Omkar

    Hello omkar841987,
    Could you please let me know how many files have you opened simultaneously.
    This count will include files that are being displayed as well as opened (without being shown in the viewer).
    Using Reader, you cannot make any setting for the same, but close some of the files before crossing that limit.
    It also depends on your OS and memory size as you would need enough memory to open many files at a time.

  • Maximum number of files in a folder ?

    Hello, what is the maximum number of files in a folder OS X can handle ?
    I used a file recovery software called FileSalvage to save some files of an external 300GB with a corrupted disk directory (unable to repair with the usual repair/recovery programs).
    FileSalvage recovered about 435,000 files and sorted them by extension in individual folders, unfortunately it does not recognize the file names and just sequentially names the files per extension.
    The .jpeg, .gif and .html folders had up to 75,000 files. After recovery the external FW drives started to behave very strange, unresponsive, just hanging, time-out. I tried on a Mac Mini, iMac G5, an iBook and PowerBook, OS X 10.3.9 and 10.4.3, FW400/800 and USB 2.0 interface, they all had pretty much the same failure mode after a while.
    Running Disk Utility on the drives with the recovered FileSalvage folders showed a corrupted directory (invalid file count) and unable to repair, although I could copy most of the folders of the disk (deleted the folders with more than 10,000 files per folder).
    I suspect that File Salvage copies more files in a folder than OS X allows, causing unpredicable problems.
    Any ideas ?
