Country restrictions on MLB, NHL & WSJ?

Are MLB, NHL and WSJ country restricted?  At one point I had MLB on my Apple TV and then I'm not sure which update made it disappear.  Now when updating to 4.4, there is no MLB, NHL, or WSJ listed.
I live outside the U.S. and I sure wish that Apple TV had some U.S. News streaming shows.  Once that occurs, I would finally be able to tell the overpriced cable company what to do with their box:)

I would like to chime in as well on this issue. Add these applets to the list of parental controls so we can hide them.
MLB.TV
NBA
NHL
WSJ Live
And also I have rentals turned off so movies used to just show trailers. Now that there is a trailers applet, there is no need to put it under movies. My configuration is such that I now have 2 applets that do the same thing.

  • Removing MLB, NHL, WSJ icons ...

I wish there was a way to remove/hide the MLB, NHL, WSJ icons.  I do not like sport and will never subscribe to the Wall Street Journal and am annoyed that these now have a prime position on my TV.  Using parental controls I'm able to hide other 'apps' I don't use, such as podcasts or Internet radio.  Why I am not able to do this with MLB, NHL & WSJ?
I regret upgrading the ATV software ...

  • UK Apple TV infected with NHL WSJ MLB adds

Don't be offended, but as someone from the UK who has no interest in NHL WSJ MLB content, I am now forced to see these in the menu system of my Apple TV.
I do realise that to someone from America this may be excellent news, I get that. But as someone from the UK, this is forced marketing with no audience.
I want a way to either REMOVE these items from my Apple TV menu, or at the very least move them to the very bottom of the menu list so that they are never seen.
This is marketing gone completely wrong. Marketing focused on America - great for America - bad for the UK and likely Euro as well, I don't suppose they are too thrilled at the new menu items forced on them.
I will never buy new Apple TVs until I know for sure this will never be the case again. Someone in Apple must see sense. 4od, BBC iplayer and ITV player, YES ... content focused on America, NO!

In itself it's not offensive, but I think it shows a fairly egocentric US development approach to the product and lack of thought about users in other countries - it would be better to have to enable certain feeds if outside US rather than having them applied automatically.
The order is all wrong now too with more universal functionality at the bottom of the menus.
Just perused some WSJ - was great fun seeing some arrogant US financial pundit taking the mickey out of Europe and talking about 'normal people - Americans'.....

  • First MLB (whatever that is), now WSJ rubbish

Being a UK citizen, i must first say that i love Apple products and i love America and spend many annual holidays/vacations over there. Having added Apple TV to my portfolio for quality products, i was rather miffed when this MLB thing appeared at the top of one of the menu's, praying that the latest update removed this from devices over here in the UK, i now find that the latest update adds more irrelevant rubbish/trash to the menu. Is there any way to remove this or replace it with country specific content which is a little more meaningfull to us Brits ?

No, you cannot remove items from the menu's, menu's are country specific, MLB and WSJ are considered something that we here in the UK might want. Indeed I watch WSJ almost daily but I would like the option to remove MLB.

  • How can I send a book made from my iPhoto to a different country from mine?

    Hi,
My Apple ID is registered in Spain, I have made several calendars and books no problem. However, now that I want the book to be sent to Scotland, the page doesn't allow me to. I have tried several things:
    - Adding the Scottish address as default address
    - Change region of my Apple ID to UK
    - Saved all those changes, restart the computer
    ... but no success.
I would be very grateful if you could help me with this,
    Many thanks in advance,
    Rocio

The only way of doing it was changing the country of my apple ID and that meant erasing all the products bought from my Spanish ID (books, music, etc).
It is easier to create a different AppleID for  different countries than changing the main AppleID to a different county. Better keep your main AppleID as it is.
But you are right. The country restrictions are a nuisance in this world wide web of stores. It is so irritating. I am in Germany, and when I want to buy a book by an English author, I usually can only buy the German translation at the German Store, not the original version.

  • How can I access eBay pages marked "blocked due to legal restrictions of some countries"/ All other browsers do not block.

Using Vista Ultimate 64x and Firefox (any version) I keep hitting eBay page blocks that read "Unfortunately, access to this particular item has been blocked due to legal restrictions in some countries..." These same pages can be accessed with IE or Chrome so it is not really a legal restriction.
How can I get Firefox to allow these eBay pages to display? I include the url of one blocked page.

  • IPad Switzerland and iTunes store restrictions

    Hello,
I have just bought myself a iPad 32g wifi and I'm a bit disappointed. I can't seem to even access the area to rent a movie or tv show. Does Switzerland restrict all movies? Is there any other way I can rent movies or do I have to live in the US. Sadly the guy at the shop had all the shows on his iPad and that was in Zurich when selling it to me at the apple store, if there is an alternative way to access movies or tv shows i would be grateful,
    Thanks in advance.

Media licensing varies from country to country, and it makes it very confusing. I'm sure because Apple is a US based company (and the the CEO of Apple also happens to sit on the board of the large media company in the US), the US got a big head start on the quantity and quality of content. Even though Europe is as large as the US, there are numerous levels of licensing, which must be frustrating to both Apple and to the consumer. So Switzerland's licensing regulations and how much content is available is probably a lot different than in neighboring countries like Germany or Italy. I doubt your country restricts movies, but it is possible, you need to check your country's regulations. But my guess is that the licensing arrangements are still being negotiated between Apple and the various companies.
There are ways around the licensing restrictions, but you need to have a valid credit card located in another country. You can change the iTunes Store country by going into your iTunes account, enter your password, and change country. Maybe you have a close family member in Germany or France, and they have better iTunes content (depending on which language you speak).
I hope this helps, but I know there's no really good solution.

  • NHL Center Ice ch#5 (1479)

Has anyone been having trouble watching games on NHL5 of the center ice package?  On 11/01/09 the San Jose vs Carolina game didn't appear on the screen.  The channel was there, just the programming schedule for NHLci. It couldn't have been blocked out in my area (Indiana).  I contacted tech support. After an hour of getting nowhere, they finally determined that there may have been an issue with the feed from the broadcasting network.  Consequently, I missed the entire game.  Tonight I tuned to the same channel and low in behold that game EDM vs NYI was missing, too.  Not that I wanted to watch this game, but when you pay $163 for a package, you should be able the games!!!!!  I contacted tech support this time via email....didn't want to spend an hour on the phone resetting my boxes.....like that will help!!!!
So, is anyone else having problems with NHL center ice channel 5?

    ncacia,
NHL Ice is not available in Mercer county due to blackout restrictions per the NHL. Our apologies

  • HT6119 Is there any way to change country without losing all of your previously purchased content?

Google play does not have the country restrictions like Apple so I don't have that problem with them.

None of your downloads will be deleted from your devices/computers library, you just won't be able to redownload any the content that you bought/downloaded in that country unless you return to that country and have a billing address in that country on your account - but you should be keeping and maintaining a backup of all of your downloads, any item could be removed from the store at any time, so even if you weren't changing country there is no guarantee that you would be able to redownload an item.

Why do i get this message when want to see items?
    was not there before
Unfortunately, access to this particular item has been blocked due to legal restrictions in some countries. We are blocking your viewing in an effort to prevent restricted items from being displayed. Regrettably, in some cases, we may prevent users from accessing items that are not within the scope of said restrictions because of limitations of existing technology. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause, and we hope you may find other items of interest on eBay.

  • How to upgrade if country not listed?

    hi,
I am using adobe form central for my research. I want to upgrade but my country not in the list. I am not sure why because this system is online. Why adobe still impose country restriction?
Is there any way that I can upgrade my account? Need help. Thanks

You can only upgrade to a paid account if the credit card you are using to register with has a billing address in a supported country. If not then you are unable to upgrade.

  • App will not download to iPad when purchased from App Store - stuck with Cloud icon

Device : iPad Air 32gb wi-fi model (not cellular data)
OS version : 7.1.1 (up to date)
    Location : UK
Problem : App will not download to iPad when purchased from App Store - stuck with Cloud icon
Last night I tried to download an app over wi-fi onto my iPad Air, but the app did not install.
I have plenty of space (the app is 24.1mb, I have 3.4gb free space) and there are no restrictions whatsoever on my iPad - no blocks on App store purchases, no age-related restrictions, no country restrictions etc.
Normally from the App Store page you would tap the price (in this case the app was free), enter your iTunes password, and the app would download.
Also a new icon appears on the home screen and a circle shows the progress of the download.
    However this did not happen.
Instead I have the Cloud icon (the one that shows when you have bought an app but it is not currently installed on your device) and a message that says "You've already purchased this, so it will be downloaded now at no additional cost".
If I press OK I am then prompted to enter my iTunes password, the Cloud symbol briefly changes to a circle (and I mean for a split-second, like the blink of an eye) and then the Cloud symbol appears again.
The app does not download - in fact it does not even *attempt* to download.
I have tried this >20 times now and it always occurs excatly like this.
After Googling this problem (which seems common) and reading over a dozen threads on this forum plus Apple's own official support pages, this is what I've tried:
I can re-download other apps that I have previously purchased on this iPad, with no problems.
I purchased another app on my iPhone 5 and was then able to download onto my iPad with no problems.
I have reset my iPad >5 times - both by pressing/holding the home/power buttons, and also a full switch off and restart.
I have logged out of my iTunes account on the iPad, and logged back in.
The wi-fi is Virgin Media fibre optic broadband with a verified speed of 20 meg (confirmed by Speedtest) plus an 802.11-n Belkin router and my iPad will happily load web pages, stream videos on YouTube, download other apps etc.
I have reset/rebooted my internet connection
In an attempt to eliminate by broadband connection from the possible causes, I have switched off my router, linked my iPad to the hotspot feature on my iPhone and tried to download the app over cellular data, but still cannot download the app.
I have tried on 2 other wi-fi networks but still cannot download this one app.
My iTunes account has a cerdit balance from an iTunes card, but the app was free anyway
Nothing I try will download the app in question.
The app is iPad only, so I cannot install on my iPhone to try and kick-start the process.
I guess I could install the app on my computer and then sync the iPad, but that's *working around* the problem - it's not *fixing* the problem.
(Since getting the iPad I use almost never use my computer. And anyway what if I did not have a computer? Didn't iOS go "PC-free" with version 5?)
I would like to call Apple but my 90-day telephone support has expired (the iPad is around 6 months old) and I don't want to buy Apple Care for this one problem.
I can't make it to an Apple Store to speak to a Genius.
Bearing in mind the list of things I've already tried, what do I do next?
Thanks in advance for any support.

    Hi there.
Thank you very much for your quick reply, it's really appreciated.
No need to apologize, I actually found the phrase "If your iPad ever craps the bed" amusing under the circumstances
I checked the list of installed apps like you suggested (Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Show all apps) but this problem app is not in the list. I have also swiped down on the home screen to search for it, but again it does not show.
While it has not let me download the app (and I just tried it again) it has helped me to eliminate a few things from the list of what to try, and I can definitely conclude that it has not downloaded.
I guess I need to fire up my PC and download it / sync my iPad.
    Thanks again for your help

  • How do i get my apple tv to work in italy?

I am stationed in Sicily in the Navy and I recently purchased the apple tv from the Navy Exchange on base. I brought it home and hooked it up to my tv and it started up fine. I noticed that the language settings were in english but the movie titles were all in italian. When I previewded a couple movies I noticed they were in italian and when I tried to sign i with my itunes store account it told me I was only authorized to make purchases inside the u.s.. Can some one please tell me this is fixable, I am really lost right now. Thanks!

First off, I want to personally thank you for your military service, and wish you good fortune in your Tour of Duty.
Due to licensing restrictions from copyright holders throughout the globe, a lot of video content (especially newer movies and TV Shows) are locked to a specific iTunes Store, Account, & country.  That being said, many military bases make use of network trickery to look like they're from the US, for just this very reason.  If you're stationed on base, and the military provides a civilian network for use by Family Members, you may be able to bypass the region locks on the AppleTV and once again resume purchasing or viewing content from the American Store.  It's very important you do not plug the AppleTV into a military network, however, as this constitutes a major breach of security.
If the Exchange Shop is selling AppleTVs openly in the store itself, you may want to ask for help there.  It's possible one or more of your fellow servicemen/women can help you get it hooked up.  Alternatively, you may also ask Apple directly for help - mention you're an Active Duty member of the US Military, and would like to enjoy your AppleTV while on a foreign tour of duty.  They may be able to fix your iTunes account to point to the US Store, regardless of physical location, though I can't verify Apple can actually do this (they may not be able to).
Finally, the AppleTV will still be capable of streaming content from your local iTunes library or AirPlay compatible devices just fine, and the iTunes software itself may be able to bypass country restrictions and let you access the US Store.  It's cumbersome and not nearly as fun as couch surfing content from the AppleTV itself, though it is a last-ditch workaround.

  • I would like to send an itunes gift card to my aunt in Dubai.  How would I do this so she can upload it to her ipad?

How can I send my Aunt an ITunes Gift Card in Dubai.  She doens't have a credit card and I would like for her to be able to buy books.

Sorry, but you can't. iTunes cards are valid only in the country of purchase, so your aunt could not use an iTunes card you were to purchase in your own country, and to the best of my knowledge Apple does not at this time offer gift cards in the UAE.
Perhaps there's another e-book seller she could use, such as Amazon, Barnes and Noble, or Google Books, for which you could buy her a gift certificate. All three offer apps for the iPad for their e-book format. You'll need to check any country restrictions for those sellers.
    Regards.
