CProject user cannot edit (confirm) their assigned tasks

Dear Experts,
we are facing an unexpected behaviour on cProjects: project user cannot edit (confirm) their assigned tasks, because the authorizations at the task level for user appear as Read (authorizations view on task), while on the project definition, for the same tasks the user is assigned Write permissions. Something must be happening in between that we are not getting right.
More details on the configuration behind and the process:
- In Project definition level, project roles (coming from a project template) are staffed to users (business partners)
- Project roles coming from project template are assigned to a project role type with Default authorization set as Read. Because we want all project users to be able to access in read mode to the whole project and tasks; and then be able to edit (Confirm) only their assigned tasks. Except for the project manager role, who has a different project role type assigned wih Admin default authorization set
- After making the staffing at project level, this seems to be working fine: all project users have read access assigned at project structure level and rest of tasks, except the project manager who has Admin authorization. And for each task, the user assigned to the task has write permissions.
- But when a user open the task from the tasks dashboard, and go to the Authorizations tab, then the user has Read permission for the same task, which causes the consequence of not being able to Edit and Confirm.
Can you guide us to understand why the Write authorization is being overriden to Read at user access? Should not the default authorization “read” at project role type be overwritten by the assignment of the user to the task?
Maybe is there other configuration setting that is missing or needs to be checked?
Many thanks in advance,
Roberto

Thanks Ravi, I answer your questions:
1) How did you give write access? - Manually in ACL-Authorisations tab or through selection of responsible role/person in basic tab.
we use the second option. We create projects from templates that have roles assigned to tasks. After we complete staffing in the project, we assign users (business partners) to each project role. After this, automatically, users are assigned as task Responsible and receive their tasks assigned in the task dashboard.
Question here: since we do not use Resources, the field responsible resource is not used/filled- Is this required?
2) Whether the task accessed by the user is in 'Released' status?
yes, tasks are released, so that ther users receive the task in Tasks Dashboard, but due to the permissions issue, they cannot confirm task
The only possible workaround we have found to solve the issue is to assign Write authorizations to all users, but at project level. So the consequence is that users can edit all the project tasks (not only their assigned tasks) and we want to avoid that. We want users to have read access to whole project and write access to their assigned tasks (by staffinf Users to roles)
thanks again for help.
best regards,
Roberto

One of the resource is not able to see tasks assigned to him in his timesheet after publishing the project. I have checked all possible reasons listed in the the document below.
    http://projeqz.freshdesk.com/support/articles/169136-team-members-cannot-see-their-assigned-tasks-on-the-timesheet-page-or-task-page-in

    Hi Project Help,
In addition to the reasons mentionned in the article below (booking type and assignment owner), check the following:
The publish field for the assignments must contains "YES",
The project must be published successfully (with no errror messages in the queue),
The resource must be an enterprise resource and not a local resource,
You must look at the correct time period,
You must ensure that there are no filters in the timesheet view,
Then if it is a newly created task (after the timesheet was created), try inserting the assignment using the "insert row" button,
If none of above work, for the assignments in question, change the assignment owner for any other resource, publish the project, change back the assignment owner to the right resource and publish again the project,
Finally, remove the assignment and create it again (and publish).
    Hope this helps,

  • Users cannot edit a shared calendar of a shared mailbox that was deleted from the cloud and recreated on premise

    Description:
The following example account [email protected] is an on premise AD account being used as a shared mailbox in the cloud. We have discovered that regardless of what we do, not a single user can edit the calendar entries.
The following message is shown in Outlook Click to Run 2013 when an entry. "New appointment" button is also greyed out, including "Calendar Permissions" and some others.
This problem started when the shared mailbox was created wrongly by creating it in the cloud first and we had to delete it and start over. The "in the cloud" user was deleted and the same user was created in AD on-premise with the same account name
and then Dir Synced with the cloud. A license was assigned, a user mailbox on exchange online created and the type was converted to a shared mailbox and Editor rights were defined on the calendar folder for specific users.
    Actions performed:
Action01: gave users Editor rights on calendar folder through powershell
Result01: Rights correctly added and can be seen when get-mailboxfolderpermission is ran
Action02: Opened calendar with Outlook and tried to edit entries
Result02: Error message pops up saying "You don't have permission to create an entry in this folder. Right click the folder and check..."
Action03: Opened calendar with OWA of users
Result03: Users can edit the shared calendar on OWA
Action04: Gave users Full Access permission on mailbox with automapping on
Result04: Users can edit calendar in Outlook
Action05: Gave users Full Access permission on mailbox with automapping off (mailbox no longer visible in outlook)
Result05: Users cannot edit calendar in Outlook
Action06: Removed Full Access permission on mailbox for users
Result06: User cannot edit calendar in Outlook
Action07: Removed [email protected] from on-premise AD, performed dirsync, removed account from ms online using remove-msoluser -removefromrecyclebin
Result07: No trace of the account was anywhere to be found.
Action08: Created new [email protected] account on on-premise AD, assigned o365 license to user including exchange online license
Result08: New empty Exchange online mailbox was created
Action09: gave users Editor rights on calendar folder through powershell
Result09: Rights correctly added and can be seen when get-mailboxfolderpermission is ran
(Note: whenever mailboxfolder permissions are modified for this mailbox it's as if they are ran THREE times in a row, the first time they are applied and the powershell gives immediately 3 exceptions behind this:

Action10: Opened calendar with Outlook and tried to edit entries

Action11: Tried on a fresh new pc with first time logon
    Result11: did not help
    Additional information:
We have seen this problem with another user which was recreated, when he shares his calendar with others and people get the calendar invite email and click "Open Calendar" they receive a popup "The folder cannot be found".
My first impression points to a corruption/bug in the GAL on exchange online, since we're using o365 for midsize bussinesses we cannot use the AdressList role to expose the adresslist cmdlts for deeper troubleshooting.
    PS:
Issue tested on different computers and with different user accounts, not a single user can edit the calendar of [email protected] when editor rights are given.
Noticed when editing rights for the shared mailbox in powershell after the first confirmation line
Office 2013 is click to run was updated to latest version, version number: 15.0.4659.1001

    Greetings Gil,
I haven't heard of that one.
    Questions:
Does the calendar in question show up in the "Subscriptions" category of iCal?
If you remove all accounts from iCal > Preferences > Accounts and quit and re-open iCal, does the calendar in question vanish? If so, does the calendar come back when you re-input the servers you need into  iCal > Preferences > Accounts?
Can you provide a screen shot of your calendar sidebar.
While you answer those questions, some troubleshooting to try:
Try dragging one of your other calendars above this calendar that won't delete and then quit / re-open iCal and attempt to delete the calendar in question.
    Failing that:
    1. First make an iCal backup:  Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal one at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
    2. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    3. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
    4. Launch iCal and test.
If the issue persists at this point:
Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
---NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
    Hope that helps!

    Hello !
I have run into "funny" problem.
    I have following workflow:
User is creating item in ListA. In new form he needs to put Manager which is User Field column type. From people picker he is choosing login name Domain\jo (Two letters seems to be important here). User is resolved correctly to John Doe. Item is saved and
added to list correctly. In list view John Doe is displayed in Manager column. In view item John Doe is in Manager field. In powershell Id;#John Doe is as a Manager field value.
    Now the "funny" part:

! When I am logging value to wf history of the CurrentItem:Manager field I am getting sth like i;123#DOMAIN\jod . So value is completely different and wrong.
Can someone explain why is this happening?
My guess is that using two letters login name can cause such case but why ?

  • Cannot edit table in Assignment

After placing a table into an Indesign CS2 document I turned the document into an assignment and I cannot edit that table in the assignment. I need to figure out a way to edit it in the assignment. The table is locked when it is in the Assignment (i.e. in incopy). I feel like the problem is with indesign not with incopy

You know, I've only spent about 15 lifetime minutes using InCopy, but this sounds like correct behavior to me. You've assigned it; it's now in the hands of an editor, and will remain locked until it gets checked back in, right?
Edit: I would have assumed that control + w would close a window, instead of posting while closing. Oh well, I guess I'll get to learn some more about InCopy now.

  • Multicolumn lsitbox select 1or More rows but user cannot edit

I would like to know if it is possible to create a multicolumn listbox that a user can select one or more rows BUT cannot edit any entries (ie. is indicator?).

The key thing to remember about a listbox is that although it looks like a table, it's really a numeric input. The strings you see in the "table" are set via the strings[] property node--which in the case of a multicolumn listbox is a 2D array of strings.
Use this property to set the contents of the control at runtime and you don't have to worry about a user changing it.

  • Saving form created in Acrobat XI so other users cannot edit contents

I created a form in Acrobat XI and added information to the fields.  I created multiple files, each with different data.  I want users with Reader to be able to see the completed forms using Reader, but not be able to edit the fields.  Hopefully I don't have to go through the settings under File -> Preferences -> Security because they are dreadfully complex.  Hopefully there is a simple solution.

Thank you Gilad, for the prompt response.  Can you briefly explain how to
"flatten" the file?  There is no option with that word in any of the
dropdowns.  Also, where would one find the "Action" option?  Again, I'm not
seeing it.  As noted, I am using Acrobat XI.
Regardless, I think that I found the solution: File -> Save as Other...->
Archivable PDF (PDF/A).  When I did that, it saved the file, but gave an
error message that I ignored.  Information in the fields was then visible,
but not editable.  Also, I was able to link multiple files together using
Create -> Combine Files into a Single PDF... such that each record was
    different.
    Thank you again.

    Hi
I have assigned tasks to a user Project 2013 and linked the project to Project Online.
As the administrator, I see all my tasks in the Timesheet view in PWA but the users that use Project Lite canot view their tasks and cannot see them in their Timesheet.
I am quessing it is a permissions issue but cannot find where to set the right permissions.
    Any solutions out there?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Have you correctly published the assignment of the user from the project (either PWA or MS Project Pro)?
Is the user looking at the right period?
    Is the publish job successful?
Is the booking type committed and not proposed?
Is the resource the assignment owner of the assignment?
Have you assigned an enterprise resource and not a local resource? When you go to the resource center, select the resource, can you see the assignment?

  • Some Users cannot Open Workflow Approval Task

We have a SPD workflow published to our production site and it includes a 'Start Approval Process' task which involves a number of users (determined by a lookup to another list) this worked brilliantly until we republished the workflow with some minor changes,
none of which were to this particular approval task. Now we are seeing some strange behaviours. When some users click the task to approve they are seeing 'This from cannot be opened in a browser, To open this form use Microsoft Infopath'. Now strangely it's
only certain users, if you're a site collection admin you never have this error. So if a user previously had the error and i then add them to the site collection administrators list the error goes away and they can complete the task.
Obviously not a solution! giving users full control permissions on the task list or task item doesnt fix the error either. The same workflow on our UAT works without any issues. The task forms in SPD have not been customised either. Its a SP2010 Standard
farm with no infopath services obviously. Bizarrely there are some users with only Contribute rights to the task list who can open approve tasks, so it's looking like a permissions issue to me but I'm at a loss to find a fix. I've tried totally removing
the worklows and republishing, regenerating the .xsn task forms in SPD by deleting them and republishing, removing and re-adding the task related content types to site, Changing the Approval Task settings 'only allow users to edit their tasks...' to false
and then back to true, the works, but to no avail.
    Anybody any ideas?
    TIA
    Chris

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that Some Users cannot Open Workflow Approval Task.
I recommend that you can create a new list and workflow to check whether it works.
Then use the user who get the error to open task.
If he can open the task in the brower, the issue is related to the older list.
Then you can use the new created list and assgin the task.
Here is a similar thread for your reference:

  • How to Pre-Populate the user information during Assign Task operation

    Hi ,
I have a requrirement to Pre-Populate the form fields (Name, Email, Phone etc...) when a task is assigned to a user. The users are dynamically assiged, so I am using the Find User and the Assign Task services to locate and assign the task to the user. Since I have a User variable that is a result from the Find User operation, I was hoping to retrieve the user information with the attributes of the User type.
I tried to use the Set Value service to set the form field (Email) with the email attribute of the User object type i.e.
    /process_data/MyForm/object/data/xdp/datasets/data/Form/User/Email   ->  /process_data/facilityAuthority/object/@email
However I get the following error when I try to do this - com.adobe.idp.dsc.util.InvalidCoercionException: Cannot coerce object: [B@335d of type: [B to type: interface org.w3c.dom.Document.
Is it possible to retrieve the user information from the User object? If so how do I get the values for the User attributes (Name, Email & Phone etc...) so that I can populate them in the form?
    Thanks,
    Samanthapudi

    Hi Han Dao,
If you are facing an exception of the form "com.adobe.idp.dsc.util.InvalidCoercionException: Cannot coerce object: [B@335d of type: [B to type: interface org.w3c.dom.Document.", It is because the system is trying to cast a Byte Stream into w3c Document and failing. To resolve this we can explicitly cast this byte stream to appropriate data type (String in previous example). To do so we can use a SetValue operation.
    As an example
    Setting
    /process_data/MyForm/object/data/xdp/datasets/data/Form/User/Email   -> /process_data/facilityAuthority/object/@email
    results in the exception
so we can modify it to
    /process_data/MyForm/object/data/xdp/datasets/data/Form/User/Email   -> string(/process_data/facilityAuthority/object/@email)
Please let me know if this does not resolve your issue.
    Thanks

Then once I was there, i would attempt to type vis <tab> to complete, and visudo does not show up. Typed in visudo, nothing. This was on a brand new mb pro. I can wipe it out, but I would rather figure out why its not working.
The reason for all this is I have to give it to a user at my job. We don't want them to have admin rights to install anything they want, but they need to use sudo in X11 for compiling and such. I read online that I can edit/add their username to the sudoers file, and allow them the right to sudo for compiling, starting apache on their laptops, etc.
    Thanks.

  • Human Task : assign task to user at runtime based on some conditions

    HI ,
I have a requirement that is, Assign task to users/ groups at runtime for approval based on material qty. please help me in design approach to achieve the same.
    thanks in advance.

    Hi Guru
You can achieve this with and without business rules. I am assuming you have a payload with element like "qty". In task details page or somehow, this gets filled. Now later on you can have like this:
    1. Without Business Rules:
    a) Lets assume you have human tasks like ApproverDefault, Approver100, Approver200, ApproverAll etc.
    b) After your first Task, add a XOR Gateway. Default path of XOR goes to ApproverDefault. Then you have like 3 more paths with Conditions like qty between 0 and 100 goes to Approver100. Qty between 100 and 200 goes to Approver200. Qty more than 200 goes to ApproverAll.
    Quantity
    No conditions (Default) -> ApproverDefault
    qty < 100 -> Approver100
    qty > 100 and qty < 200 -> Approver200
    qty > 300 -> ApproverAll.
    2. With Business Rules
    a) This needs some learning. Please do refer detailed online docs. I am just giving brief steps. Create extra fields of type Boolean in payload like AutoApproved, NeedApproval100, NeedApproval200, NeedApprovalAny etc. Have more meaningful names as per your requirement and human task though.
    b) You need to drag and drop Business Rules component and edit it in JDeveloper.
    c) First create a Bucket set with Range of Values for Qty field like -infinity to 0, 0 to 100, 100 to 200, 200 to infinity. You just enter rows like 0, 100, 200, and rest is taken care to add these Ranges.
    d) Now create Decision Rules. For each range, create a action and set the flag(s) appropriately.
    e) See hello world example for exact steps and full understanding.

    Pros & Cons:
    a) Without Business Rules is very simple and straight forward. Quick and easy to develop and test. But if you want to control the range of values for qty, you need to modify the process and redeploy. Its kind of tight.
    b) Business Rules gives more flexible. You can change qty at run time, provided you use BPM Composer. But takes some learing and needs some debug if it fails like that.
There are many differences and pros and cons. But above are the main ones.
If you are a beginner, go with First Approach for now.

  • Assigned To column (or any column that uses People Picker) cleared after clicking Edit Item in a Task List

Our SharePoint Foundation 2013 is experiencing a weird issue. It only happens in Task Lists. For example:
Create a new Task in Task List and fill the Assigned To field with a user from the People Picker list. The People Picker works fine as all users in Active Directory are appearing.
    Save Task.
Edit Item the task that was just created.
The Assigned To field is now cleared for that Task.
It used to keep the user that was in the Assigned To column.
Are there any suggestions on what may have caused this or what I can try to fix this?
This was after some Windows updates were installed end of August.

    Hi PauIT,
According to your post, my understanding is that the “Assigned To” field is cleared when you edit a task item in the Tasks List.
I recommend that you can enable server rendering on the list view Web Part for the Tasks List to solve this issue.
To do this, please follow the steps as below:
Open the Tasks List in your site, add a new task item, type the user name in the “Assign To” field and save it.
Select the new item, click “Edit item”, then go to the Gear icon, click “Edit page”, click the drop-down arrow in the upper-right corner of the Web Part for the Tasks List, and click “Edit Web Part”.
On the right side of the page in the Web Part properties controls, click the plus sign (+) on the “Miscellaneous” section, select the “Server Render” in the “CSS Render Mode” section, then click “Apply”, “OK” and save the changes of the page.
Then, you can see if the “Assign To” field in the new item’s Edit Form has the corresponding values.
