CPU activity Q001 and Q003

I'm having a Vision 12.1.3 environment with the following issue:
Since some there, there's two processes each constantly using almost all CPU time.
I've tried to wait, bouncing database, ... didn't help
The processes in question:

(also not killing anything, just stopping CM in standard way - the problem processes remain running after this)

  • Photos and high CPU activity

Importing photos the CPU runs fast and my laptop runs hot. Checking Activity Monitor, Photos App pushes the CPU well beyond 100%.  com.apple.photos.videoconversionservice does the same. Apparently the 'video conversion' is a default setting for importing videos to enable storing videos in iCloud. However, I don't use iCloud for storing any photos or videos and I don't want to...so this conversion is completely unecessary as well as annoying and a waste of time. It can't be doing my laptop much good either running it at a very hot temperature. I've read others having a similar problem but have yet to see any concrete solutions to the problem. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks for the advice- What do I look for in the console log?
    From Mac Help:
    *Viewing system messages*
While your system performs tasks, it sends messages between applications, processes, and the operating system. Some of these messages are displayed, but most are not displayed because they can be too detailed and technical. If you are a programmer debugging software, or are troubleshooting a problem with a service technician, messages related to the problem may be located system logs. To view these messages you can use the Console utility located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder.
For more information, Open Console, and then choose Help > Console Help.
Click on the all logs in the source pane on the left - most of the stuff is impossible to figure out but over temperature warnings are clear as is the sleep message that follows it
Also, I'm not sure if it is overheating- it shows high CPU activity even when I first start using my computer (after hours of non use), so it is not hot at all- can it still overheat?
It is possible - the way to find out is to read the log and see what it says
Have you inspected the air vents including the one on the back under the stand?

  • Physical reason of the whine (CPU, LCD) - explanations and suggestions

    Hi everybody,
a friend of mine just received his MacBook Pro (2 Ghz, 2 GB RAM, 5400 RPM 100GB HD) yesterday.
I encouraged him to buy one of these machines in spite lots of people are complaining about the whine. We hoped he would be lucky to get one without the whine but we were disappointed.
The book has the whine (high pitched tone, very nasty). It is even louder when running from battery.
He will try out the book for a week and see if the whine is bugging him and
driving him crazy when working in a silent environment.
I would go nuts if I have to hear it all the time.
I studied lots of threads here in the discussion board but none had answered my questions.
    1) How do I know which whine - CPU or LCD whine - my friend's laptop has?
    2) What is an LCD inverter - 0 in 1 out - 1 in 0 out?
    3) What could be the physical reason for the CPU and LCD whine?
    4) Therefore what could be done to eliminate the whine technically in a correct way (not such 50% solutions like the mirror widgets or photo booth)?
    5) Will there be a real fix in the foreseeable future?
    Thanks for your help.

If you have the high-pitched whine that changes with LCD brightness, that is a recognized problem and can be fixed by changing the inverter board.
The whine related to CPU activity currently seems to be officially stated as normal by Apple (this might vary depending on who you talk to).
Am I right when I say that until Apple states that
the whine is actually a real problem we won't have a
    official solution for that?
Another question when a MacBook Pro has the whine is
this a hardware defect or can it be seen as working
    within normal parameters?
There are different reactions of Apple techs dealing
    with the problem.
Is it worth calling them because of the whine even if
there is no actual solution or fix for that problem?
    Thank you once again.

  • Mac OS X 10.7 extremely slow but no CPU activity?!!

Hi.  I recently ran monolingual and installed Sophos antivirus.  I think the problem started after Sophos free antivirus for Mac.  But now the computer frequently displays the spinning wheel but Activity Monitor shows no CPU activity.  While this happens I can not do much with the computer.  Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Okay.  I finally got enough nerves to start terminating processes and after a while the computer was responsive enough to uninstall the Sophos Antivirus and that fixed the problem.

  • PS S6 weird CPU activity!

So here's my long story short:
Recently I've bought an old HP XW8600 Workstation (dual Xeon [email protected], 8GB DDR2, 2x146GB SAS [email protected], nVidia Quadro FX4600).
The price was about $550. I know that for this amount of money, in the US you could buy an i5 2500k system, but here in Eastern Europe (Romania), you need at least $1000 for such a system. So I think I made a good deal on this one.... but... yes there's a BUT!
I've got an old intel Quad [email protected], 4GB DDR2, Radeon HD3870... so the workstation should have been a fairly nice upgrade to my current system.
The dual Xeon CPUs setup almost doubles the computational power, at least in benchmarks.
And considering the MacPro's run dual Xeons, I've figured, "hey, this machine will blow Photoshop and Illustrator CS6 out of the water!".
    Boy... was I wrong!
Both PS and AI CS6 on Windows have a strange way of dealing with more than CPU 4 Cores.
To my surprise, the HP Workstation was performing slower than my old Q6600 in both PS and AI CS6.
Checking out the CPU activity, I've discovered something strange... and here's an image to illustrate this:
I've noticed the same CPU activity on quad i7 CPUs with HypeThreading Enabled which act like 8 cores when processing information.
This ONLY APPLIES IN WINDOWS btw!!!
Repeating the same test on OSX Lion 10.7.4 (hackintosh), using the same multiprocessor system (HP XW8600 Workstation) with all the 8 cores Enabled, they all work at the same time and almost at the same intensity, performing much better than on Winwdows.
So either Windows 7 is doing a ****** job at spreading the threads among the CPU's Cores, or Adobe did a ****** job at optimizing Photoshop and Illustrator CS6 (Windows Version) for 8 Cores systems. By the way Adobe Premier CS6 uses all my 8 Cores flawlessly working smooth as silk (well done Adobe!).
I would be glad if someone from Adobe would reply here cause this is a serious problem... and I'm not willing to throw my workstation out the window yet!
Thought if I'm out of options, I will try to selling for the same price I've bought and somehow buy a current generation PC.
I'll end saying that it's not fair to have all this computational power and not being able to use it in PS and AI CS6!!!
And oh yeah... I've tried every possible variation of the Performance Settings. I've even bought a new video card (Radeon HD6870) and a new 120 GB SSD. Still no improvement in the performance on the HP Workstation.
    Any ideas???

Bravo for posting the file and specific settings!  That way I can try it and see if I see the same things you do, and you can judge whether your system is performing as others do...
    For me:
    At 30%:
I can drag each test group around interactively, and I'd estimate the frame rate at in excess of 15 FPS, since it's not quite "motion picture smooth", but too fast to count.  Estimated frame rate of drags:
    test group 1:  15 FPS
    test group 2:  20 FPS
    test group 3:  24 FPS
Test group 2 seems to be a bit smoother than test group 1, and test group 3 seeming a bit smoother still than test group 2.  Though I have some practice at this, at this speed it's simply hard to judge the frame rates with any accuracy, so the above numbers are rough estimates.
    At 40%:
Drag lag becomes noticeable, but not intrusive.   Estimated frame rates:
    test group 1:  5 FPS
    test group 2:  8 FPS
    test group 3:  10 FPS
    At 100%:
Drag lag for test group 1 becomes slightly distracting.  Estimated frame rates:
    test group 1: 3 to 4 FPS
test group 2: 8 FPS (notably as fast or faster than at 40%)
test group 3: 12 FPS (notably as fast or faster than at 40%)
I also tested the same file under the same conditions with Photoshop versions CS5 and CS4 on the same system.
Performance was virtually the same at all different zoom levels with Photoshop CS5.
Photoshop CS4 could not open the file without a warning ("This file uses an unsupported blending mode.  Substitute normal mode?").  Once I hit [OK] I saw higher frame rates with all groups and with all zoom levels except test group 1 at 40% zoom, where the frame rate was the same.
Both older versions of Photoshop updated the display in a choppy, tiled manner, which was visually distracting, while Photoshop CS6 updated the display cleanly all at once after each drag operation.
You mention the layer thumbnails as being important, but I didn't see any difference with thumbnails on or off, or with the different settings for Thumbnail Contents.  Note that there have been specific changes to Photoshop 13.0.1 in this area.
    Things for you to try:
Make sure you're updated to 13.0.1.
In Edit - Preferences - Performance, try setting your Cache Levels to 2 and your Cache Tile Size to 1024K or 1028K.  I find the large tile size adds a few frames per second boost to the drag rates.

  • CPU running hot and fans maxed out while no programs are running

My 2007 MacBook Pro 3,1 suddenly started running hot (CPU-85°C) and the fans are ramping up to 6000rpm for no apparent reason. Nothing but Firefox running. I just downloaded a new Security update. Is anyone else having these issues? Any fixes out there? Should I be concerned? Thanks.

There are a couple of things to try.
First, I always repair permissions before and after adding anything from Software Update. May be overkill but I've never had any issues with updates on any of the family's eight OSX computers.
Second, are you running any anti-virus software other than ClamXav? Most commercial packages create more Mac trouble than they prevent.
Third, use Activity Monitor (AM) to check for runaway background processes. IMPORTANT: to catch the culprits, you have to change Activity Monitor's default setting of "My Processes" to "All Processes." Otherwise, most of the likely suspects are going to fly under the radar. Also quit any apps you have launched. Click AM's "%CPU" column to sort by how much of the processor each background process is using. Let it run about a minute and observe what shows as the largest users. In either Leopard of Snow Leopard, no background process should show over about 5 percent. If anything is grabbing a lot of cycles, post the process name here and we can help you figure out what it is and how it can be corralled.

It's because the PowerMac G5 had HUGE bandwidth with a fat BUS on each processsor so they could run hard, hot and heavy.
It's not so with the Intel processors which are multi-core and share a common bus thus bottleneck.
The newer Intel processors can do more work on the CPU, but when it comes to in/out they are s-l-o-w.
I've had a wickedly fast dual processor (not dual core) G5, RAID 0 pair of 10,000 RPM drives as boot and a fast video card, I could do a lot very very fast.
You'll likely have to upgrade to Final Cut X to get more cores utilized, prepare to cry a little bit, Apple is working on the features they stripped out of it to make amends to pro users who complained loudly. (all over TV too)

  • Phantom CPU activity

    Hi, Hope you can help!
    MBP, 10.6.8 fully updated software.
Noticed the machine was running a little hot and battery life was down.  Closed all programs and checked activiy monitor:  CPU idle has a minimum vlaue of about 98% but every few seconds takes an excursion down to 48% were it remains for a few seconds before recovering briefly to 98%.  Looking at the list of CPU usage by process, I see that activity monitor is using about 2% but nothing else.  Even when the CPU idle is 48%, nothing is appearing on the list as using any cpu.  Meanwhile the computer is running hot with audible fan activity.
Console messages don't show any obvious explanation.  Any suggestions gratefully appreciated.

Its now 12.07 and the CPU continues to work.  Help!

OK, X423424X came closest to the mark...  I forgot about starting in safe mode.  I believe it forces a directory check, and I don't know what this means exactly, but I have found it to cure problems in the past.  In this case, the laptop began running cool again after starting in safe mode.
However, I still have the phantom CPU activity:  ie. the activity monitor shows only 49% CPU idle, but nothing in the list appears to acount for the missing 51% of the CPU capacity, see attached images below.
It is noteworthy that when I boot off the Lion partition this problem is even worse, and the excursions down to low idle values are more frequent and last much longer.

  • Tool for monitoring CPU activity

    hi all
is there any tool beside "top" that can monitor CPU activity in mi-range servers as SUNFIRE 4800 ?
Because i need time slot to know the peak time of the CPU and its activity in real time
    P.S : i have Solaris 8 and Solaris 9

    Timely

Just to amuse yourself run sar and mpstat and prstat/top against the same time-slice on a multi-proc machine. I think you'll be surprised at how inaccurate sar is.
Some portions of Solaris are very old and don't get updated. sar appears to be one of them.

  • HP PRO 3400 Series desktop won't boot CPU fan starts and stops , no video, no beeps

I have the above computer with an i3-2125 CPU, Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, and a 300GB Seagate Hard drive.  I've had it for about 2 years and been working fine. It started acting up about 2 months ago.  It would lose the date and time.  I checked the battery, and it was OK, so I kept using the computer.  Then on 9/15/2014 it hung on "Starting Windows", I did the following:
    1.  Ran the built in HP diagnostic on hard drive and memory and they both passed.
    2.  Tried to go to last known good configuration and nothing happened.
    3.  Noticed the date and time were off, replaced the battery, nothing changed.
    4.  Tried another hard drive from another HP PRO 3400 Series and it would boot up but could not set date in bios.
    5.  Tried all kinds of things but could not set date in bios.
          a.  Bios date read 48/00/0048 after removing and replacing battery.
b,  Tried to reset date to 9/16/2914 and it gets 56/00/0051
    6.  Then it wouldn't boot at all.   So now when you turn on the power, the CPU fan starts and runs for about 1 second, then shuts off for 4 seconds, then starts and runs for another 1 sec and it does this continuously.  There is  no video and no beeps and no difference when all memory is removed.
    7.  I removed the power supply, and checked voltages.  It appears to be OK.
    8.  I removed the motherboard, and inspected it- saw nothing obvious.
    9.  I connected the power supply to the motherboard with nothing else connected to the motherboard, and I get the same thing.  CPU fan starts then stops continuously, no video no beeps.
    10.  I am thinking it is the Motherboard, but I sure could use some suggestions as to what to do next.
    Thanks

Probably will never ever think of buying a locked phone from AT&T cause its one of the worst system integrations ever that these companies could think of.
The entire problem started when I put in a request with at&t to unlock my iphone 4s (ios7) which did get approved. I performed the entire instructions they asked me to do, which is to backup and restore. After doing those instructions my iphone gave me an error message below
The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported.
The SIM card that you currently installed in this iPhone is from a carrier that is not supported under the activation policy that is currently assigned by the activation server. This is not a hardware issue with the iPhone. Please insert another SIM card from a supported carrier or request that this iPhone be unlocked by your carrier. Please contact Apple for more information.
Basically saying that at&t hasn't still unlocked the iphone which a really helpful apple executive was able to confirm. I initiated another unlock process from at&t in order to unlock the iphone, just to be sure that its not something wrong from my end. The nice at&t lady stayed on chat with me to unlock the iphone step my step while I was calling the apple tech too. And the apple tech confirmed again that the iphone is locked to at&t.
Now, just a few minutes ago I tried another restore to see if any progress is being made and to my surprise I got an error message saying
Replacement Needed. This iphone is not able to complete the activation process and needs to be replaced. Please visit your nearest apple store or authorized service center.
I feel like I am just going around these two different "money hogger" companies which set certain rules and regulations to screw a regular phone buyer. I purchased this iphone in USA and trying to unlock in India, is it really this hard to simply unlock a device.
For now I am going to try to call a apple office in india (apprently we don't have very many out here) and see if they can help me. But any other assistance regarding unlocking an iphone 4s would be helpful. I have however, tried checking IMEI.info, called up apple, talked to at&t (which always say go talk to apple) I do have a case number from apple as well in case an apple executive reads this discussion forum (case number: 566383594)
    Thanks

You got a confirmation from AT&T that it was authorized. Is this correct? - Yes i did get an email authorization on the 21st.
Then you connected the phone to a computer with the latest version of iTunes installed. You clicked on the phone's name in iTunes, then clicked "Backup Now". - Yes
When that finished you clicked "Restore iPhone" (NOT "Restore Backup") - Yes
Are you with me so far? - Yes.
And @ Varjak is right that after the 3rd restore I get the replacement error.
Plus I have NEVER jailbroken the iPhone. To give you another update, I spoke to a really nice apple tech in India who was atleast able to get me out of the replacement error by doing a recovery mode option. However, the lastest restore still gives me the same error

Without the original Apple ID and password, you cannot activate the iPhone it's to deter thief using it.
Activation Lock cannot be bypass and Apple won't help.

  • Difference between refresh of Report in Active Viewer and Active Studio BAM

We use the Oracle SOA Suite with BAM (on Linux) 10.3.2.0.
    I have 2 questions:
    1. We have made a report with several items and in Active Studio --> Select Report --> Edit mode --> I see the correct values for my report. When I open my report in Active Viewer I see data from yesterday. The report is not being refreshed. How can I change this, what is causing this difference between Active Viewer and Active Studio in Edit mode??
    2. One of my items in my report always gives the message: opening (only in Active Viewer, in Active Studio/edit mode I can see the correct data).

Is your popup blocker turned off? I can only imaging that the popup blocker may be keeping the Live Data window from appearing and updating the dashboard. Active Studio doesn't do a Live update, but an update on report load.
