CPU, BIOS and MB

Hi there,
I have a MS 5169 v. 2.1 with Bios AMI v. 3.1 and CPU AMD k6-2 333 MHz
I have a couple of questions which could be generalized about CPU and MBs !!
According to the BIOS info I can only use AMD k6-2 type CPU up to 400 MHz.
What happends to the CPU/MB if I replace the 333 MHz CPU with an AMD k6-2 500 MHz ?? Of cause setting the jumpers correctly: JV1: Dual voltage / S2: Vcore 2,2 V / S1: FSB 100 and multiplier 4x - to match the max. recognizable 400 AMD CPU ???
Will it not be recognized at all ?? - or will it be recognizes as a 400 CPU and work accordingly ??
What ever is the correct answer in this contex, will it also apply to other MB / CPU constallations ???
regards

..so with all likelyhood a k2-6 500 MHz CPU, - it will not be recognized as a 400 MHz CPU with my configuration proposal, - with Mb version 2.1 ??

I have just installed the new 3.9 bios and have noted the cpu temp was sitting on 50c. It is normaly on about 40c when running at 1730mhz. I dropped it back to 1530mhz and its made very little difference. Anyone else noticed this.

question regarding CPU temps and latest bios (1.8)

I'd believe the first bios's temps more than the second...
However what temps are given when using speed fan and/or everest? (in windows)

  • K7N2GM-L 6777 BIOS doesnt correctly detect CPU temp and FAN speed

    Hello,
    I use a K7N2GM-L 6777 mobo with a amd 1800+ and a arctic copper silent 2tc.
the mobo isnt able to detect the right cpu temperature and cpu fan speed in bios.
    did anyone experienced that problem??
i already updated to the latest bios V1.6 but no change !!
the cpu temp is shown about 6°C/42°F and the fan speed is 0 rpm !!!
but the system temp is shown correctly (21°C/69°F (when i just started the system))
    any idea

    Hello!
It has been heard of before, yes, but your board is rather new so I don't think it has had an issue yet.
There is normally a sensor on the processor. If it does on your processor I can't say. If there isn't a sensor on the processor, or if it is covered with thermal grease, or otherwise damaged, BIOS and all programs that read BIOS data will be wrong.
Bit off: I'm speculating in that HSF, and I wonder how good and quiet it is. Been recommended by a store nearby.

  • Experiment and conclusion on notorious Bios and turbo boost related issue.

    Hi everyone,
Like everyone here, I suffered from the turbo boost issue and I decided to find a practical way to solve this problem,so .I conducted some experiments trying to find out the relationship between power strategy, graphic type, booting power source and the CPU frequency.. Here are my results:
Variable: Power strategy for AC/BAT: Max/Balanced, Max/Max(didn't try for balanced AC power strategy)
Graphic type: Integrated, discrete and Nvidia Optimus
power source when the machine booted(BAT,AC)
    Testing model: W520 42762QU i7-2720QM Quodro2000M 16G Crucial M4 128G, 500G HDD, BIOS1.30

Notice the '800-2400' state, it is a special situation when CPU-Z occationally gives me a speed of approx 2400 when I tried some head-load programs, which lasted about few seconds and the frequencies went back to 800 or 1500(in most cases, 800) when I closed the program.
    Conclution:
    1. power stratagy will not influnce the cpu frequency.
    2. booting power source and graphic types will do.
    3. I'm sick and tired of pluging and unpluggin my W520.
    4. I'm not a fan of Nvidia Optimus.
    5. Lenovo did a terrible job on this issue.
    6. I expect a same result for Bios 1.26
    Practical solutions:
1.When you need a powerful W520, use Discrete graphic and plug your AC while booting.
2, For a longer battery life, use integrated graphic, and if you wan't to plug the AC, please turn off your machine and boot again.(not rebooting!)
Thank you for reading my post and sorry for my bad english

Thanks very much for keeping us all informed about the "work in progress" on the BIOS and the Turbo-thing.  That is thoughtful of you and will (hopefully) cut down on the amount of carping and complaining about this issue.

  • I want to quiet down a P4 1.6A CPU fan and Sparkle PSU

    Hi,
I want to quiet down my P4 1.6A CPU fan and PSU fan....
    A) I have a MSI 845G-MAX-L motherboard with Winbond monitoring chip. I notice that the CPU fan RPM goes up when temperature goes up. Is this normal on all boards, or is this an extra nice feature specific to MSI boards with Winbond chip???
    B) I've already put a FanMate to the CPU fan, and it runs at 1500 RPM, but I can still hear it.... so now I have a Zalman fan bracket (FB123) and am searching for a 80MM which has RPM sensoring, to give me some feedback in the BIOS and MBM5. Any suggestions on a quiet 80MM which has RPM sensoring.... (I've tried Coolermaster and Vantec.. they are both noisy to me.... I tried Panaflo but I want the RPM sensor so I can tell if the Winbond chip is doing it's job of speeding up the fan when the CPU temp goes up....
    C) I have a Sparkle 300W-BTV PSU. Does Sparkle solder on the PSU fan tail to the pcb or do they use some pin header?? I'll probably replace the PSU fan with Panaflo. Also does Sparkle use a thermistor to control fan speed or is it just one speed? I can use the Coolermaster DAF-B82 which is quiet at startup (1000 rpm) at 20 C.
    D) I am thinking about getting the OCZ P4 eliminator passive heatsink.... anyone using it or seen a review of it? Can the Alpha 8942 run in passive mode with no CPU fan? I only have the Sparkle PSU fan as the exhaust fan in my Coolermaster ATCS-200 aluminum case.
    Thanks.....

My CPU runs at 37 C at idle and the CPU fan is at 2400 RPM.  When running loaded (at 100% utilization after 1 hour) my CPU temp runs at 41 C and the CPU fan is at 2800 RPM.   During the summer when ambient temps were very high I've seen my CPU temps at 43 C and CPU fan speed at 3000 RPM.
I read a little on the Intel Precision Cooling Technology.  I believe that the Intel Precision Cooling is capable of adjusting the SYSTEM case fans (along with the CPU fan).   It seems that Intel went one step further by adding in SYSTEM fans and then adding in the ability for the user to control both the CPU fan and SYSTEM fans based on temperature.
What I'm wondering is if all or most P4 motherboards adjust  the CPU fan speed based on CPU temp (in real time), or is this just something new that MSI did in their later boards like my 845G MAX?  Anyone have other P4 MB (other than the obvious ones by Asus and the ones which have the Intel Precision Cooling) who can comment?

  • Weired voltage cpu temp and fan speed readings

Built this system last week when i install core center I get no 3.3 v readings. cpu temp plays between 18c to 60c and the fan speed from 800 t0 6000rpm. Check in the bios all voltage readings are fine but cpu temp and fan readins can be way off. Also installed lastest versions of mbm and get the same results. Flashed bios to latest version also. Cool and quiet is not activated. Weired thing everything runs fine.                                                                                                                  motherboard k8t neo2                                                                                      cpu amd 64 3500                                                                                              memory corsair 3200LL 1024                                                                            video card BFG 6800gt                                                                                       sound Audigy 2                                                                                                  hard drive   WD 120 sata                                                                                    liteon dvd rom and cd-r                                                                                      power supply Antec 480watt neo power                                                               Everything is at stock speeds with all latest drivers and xp sp2. Don't know what can be the problem. Please help not the first systeme I have built but first time I encounter this problem. Tried 3 different psu for testing and get the same result.

Well sorry to say I solved the problem for good. Contacted MSI support. Only answer I got was Maybe the board was bad. Got it exchanged from the store and got an Asus av8 deluxe rev.2 instead. Everything runs fine. It was my first MSI board and sad to say it gave me a lot of headaches and configeration problems. The new setup ran great on the first try. Don't  think I will buy MSI again in the near future.

  • DKA790GX Bios and ACC settings

I am running on the 9950BE 140W chip on this board and was wondering if anyone knows what ACC settings mean or leaving it at auto gives the most headroom for an OC.
I'm running on the v1.2 bios and also realize that even though the system runs stably (prime95 runs fine for over 8hrs) at 3.1Ghz (230 x 13.5), the system fails to post from a cold boot sometimes. Another perculiarity I've noticed with this board is that for memory overclocking, you have to leave it at a lower speed and overclock the FSB 1st before even tweaking any memory settings for the system to POST. Adjusting the memory voltage does not help.
    Anyone with the same experience?

I just slapped a 125 watt 9950 in my DKA790GX Platinum a couple of days ago.  I also was getting blue screens at start-up like a memory issue.  I found ACC being on was the actual cause of the problem.  When I turned ACC off, everything worked fine.  I was running a beta bios MSI gave me for another issue with my old 9600 cpu so it may or may not apply in your case.  I did flash the new 1.30 bios that was very recently posted and I was then able to use ACC with no more problems at start-up.  Once I got ACC running on auto, I found that with the 9950 I was able to lower the cpu voltage to 1.26v completely stable where it needed 1.30v with ACC off.  I haven't attempted to overclock yet as I am temporarily using the stock cooler, but being able to lower the voltage that much with it on should help a lot with heat issues in overclocking this chip.  The one document I saw from AMD on ACC stated to use the all four cores setting with +12 for the best overclocking results, but at least with the 9600 I seemed to get better results using auto.

  • VT-x disabled, GT70-2OD, running latest BIOS and EC F/W

Hi - I have just flashed the BIOS using your official tool and guide and am still unable to see VT-x enabled. I have confirmed this via CPU-ID and Intel Processor Utility. Can you help please?

I have installed Oracle Virtual Box (latest version) and am not able to set any CPU acceleration features (tab is greyed out). Various CPU utilities all report the lack of VT-x features...

I have k7n2L (bios 18/03/2003) when I start main motherboard in Bios I have system 28C CPU 45C. PC Alert4 show me the same temperature in windows. When a run Sisoft SANDARA 2003 this program show system 28C (the same then bios) and CPU 57C (not the same)and write 45c as power/aux. Meybe temperature in Bios is not true. I check other PC and temperature in bios and SANDRA 2003 was true. What temperature is correct.Whats wrong. Please if you was the same problem write e-mail [email protected] and forum  )

"That is all wrong. The prescott is the worst OCer Intel has right now due to very bad heat issues"
WOW  I don't agree with that statement . Prescotts while they do have their heat issues DO overclock quite well and the heat issues are easly solved. I am running at 3.59 with the stock Heatsink (42C at Idle and 55C under load). I can go much higher but chose not to. I see people with northwoods running higher temps than this.
All that is needed to keep a prescott cool is a simple duct mounted on the side of the case feeding cool air to the CPU. Just take a look at this

  • MSi P6N Motherboard Issue - Flickering Display in BIOS and WinXP

    Hi,
I have recently got a P6N (nvidia 680i) motherboard and the display flickers a lot in both the bios and windows xp. Changing the refresh rate in windows doesn't do anything.  I have tried 3 different graphics cards (all nvidia) which all show the same problem.
To rule the memory (Corsair Dominator pc2-6400) and CPU (ore 2 Duo E6400) out... The memory has been verified via memtest86 in another machine and the cpu has similarly been tested (using prime95 - 2 instances to test both cores) in another machine. I can only conclude  that the motherboard is at fault in some way.
Anyone else found this problem? Am I missing something or is there a simple fix?
    Cheers...

Yes, tried 2, in any case both monitors work fine with other comps.

  • MSI X58 PLATINUM, the latest bios and how to enable turbo boost

    1) Wich motherboard is ? MSI X58 PLATINUM or MSI X58 PLATINUM SLI ?
    2) What is the lastest version Bios and where can i get ?
    3) How to enable turbo boost in this motherboard ?
    4) Thanks so much guys.

My bad. The obvious lack of your self research got the better of me. I do not take helping, if I can, lightly. This is new technology, & a lot of expertise is in short supply. I downloaded the manual on this board & read the bios section, & in CMOS Setup, you should find an "Enable" setting for Turbo Boost. If you don't, please contact MSI Tech Staff @ http://ocss.msi.com.tw Also, (in your manual), is a reference under "Intel Turbo Boost Tech", which clearly states "for further information please refer to Intel's official website". By your original post, CPU-Z says it's an SLI? What did you buy? Does it say on the retail box? At MSI's website, the X58 Platinum (not the SLI), has version 1.0 bios offered in three global region zip files. M7522v1.0 Euro.zip, M7522v1.0 ASIA.zip, & E7522v1.0.zip. J.T.N. is correct, the SLI board takes something else. Are both boards bios's compatable? I have no idea. Recommend step one as to confirm with MSI what board you truly have & go from there.

its probably wifi driver related or something specified for win8
    try different wifi drivers
I already tried many drivers from the MSI itself, Intel, even other Notebook Manufacturers, but still not working.
I have tested Windows 8 in my friend's notebook(DELL) that has similar Wireless Adapter and everything working fine without issues like mine, so that means Windows 8 is not the culprit.

    Was 2.30 Now 1.40(beta) (thought it was typo has happened with other MSI Live update files before) {Thats my excuse}
Now Live Updates shows bios optimised
Also all the driver files live update 3 (Ver3.61) finds are old and web links for drivers are old and no bios image to download
Had to use ATI drivers for newer Megabook 610
Also had to download Intel inf and wireless g update version from intels site
PC Alert4 Preloaded version show CPU Temp and System Temp
Now Manualy updated PC Alert4 it only shows CPU Temp
Overall Very Happy with Megabook Quality and performance (just fine tuning of software/drivers needed)
Would like live update to show updated drivers and Bios images
Also would be nice to have graphical picture report of battery conditon like it shows of promotional Sheet
    Thanks MSI
One last thing a forum just for notebooks and maybe socket 775 boards

MSI have sent me an Email (I did send them one)
Which fixed the BIOS Issue and is now available. Also are working on other live update drivers file
