CPU Clock speed with Belle Update

The original symbian^3 devices run on the ARM 11 Processor which has been optimized to function close to 1GHz. But they're currently running at a speed of 680 MHz. My request to Nokia is that please optimize our processor speed to atleast 1GHz with the upcoming belle update. If you haven't planned on doing it, please do it with a minor update atleast after you release belle. I'm not an expert on this. So suggestion and comments are welcome.

I would be surprised if the rest of the hardware in the phone, like the RAM etc, couldn't support the maximum CPU clock speed. When such sophisticated electronic devices are designed it's impossible to know until it's all been put together how it will actually perform as a complete unit - the hardware, software, battery capacity, etc. The clock speed allows a fine-tuning once everything comes together, to get the optimal balance.
Well-made software makes a huge difference to how much CPU/hardware resources are required. Software efficiency is the most important factor of all.
A GPU is only there to perform tasks that would otherwise take up huge amounts of CPU resources. Dedicated graphical tasks such as 2D scrolling, 3D texture-mapping/filling for example. But that's all. The CPU is still running the whole show, but just has much of the load taken off it by the GPU.
So with the GPU doing more and more, the CPU and it's speed become less relevant.
A few things here, some of what you have mentioned I agree with. But some I dont. Firstly when any device is designed, things like the GPU and RAM are all allowed for, that is the speed at which each is capable. There is no use taking pot luck saying oh we think that will be enough. Its all calculated right from the word go.
Its done for several reasons, firstly costings, there is no use producing something that is so expensive no will be able to afford it. secondly to make sure you dont end up with bottle necks in data flow. Also it no use producing something that is so slow that you cant do anything worthwhile on it. That is some of the reasons.
You are absolutely right about software, well made software installed in a relatively slow running device can quite often beat poorly designed software running on a fast machine at exactly the same task. O/S like windows for instance, in my opinion only, whilst full of features, is definitely bloated, and not well designed. A standard install disc for windows these days is around the 3Gig mark (depending on version of OS), where as something that does exactly the same thing like Linux still fits on a 700M cd.
And you are right about the GPU, its does relieve the pressure on the cpu. Unfortunately the gpu in an N8 or an E7 is only running at 200Mhz. Considering most things are graphical based on these phones. I would have to wonder how much of the gpu is being used, especially when the one chip is running everything from the 2d/3d graphics/rendering, the camera up to 12MP, HDMI, HD video recording and play back, a stack of video codecs etc.
Unfortunately the main cpu from everything i was able to find is simply listed as an ARM11, these processors run on several Nokia's phone, including the older E90 (which had dual cpu's but ran at much slower speed of about 332 Mhz., however the Arm site list the ARM 11 as several versions, including one that actually has 4 cpu on the one the chip but only presents itself as 1 cpu to the rest of the hardware, with this cpu running anywhere up to 1Ghz. So its entirely possible that the 680Mhz listed for the N8/E7 could be as fast as it goes. Also the current versionof the ARM11 have a power consumption of 0.21mW/Mhz. so based on that figure a processor running at 680Mhz would consume 142.8 mW, but at 1G it would be 210mW, that a difference of 67.2mW. That would mean your phone would go flat a lot quicker. This info is based solely on information that I can find on Nokia run sites, ARM's site and broadcoms site. That way we can beleive what we are able to read with some certainty. I did find other non-related site suggesting 720mhz for the cpu, but they are only a 3rd party mobile news site, that said it had been suggested that it was capable of 720Mhz..
But i do firmly believe with efficient code the phones can perform extremely well, Anna certainly seems faster than the old Symbian ^3 version that was on the phone prior to Anna, whether or not Belle can be made any more efficient remains to be seen. But heres hoping.

  • Does CPU clock speed(ghz) affect gaming quality?

    Hey guys,
i was just wondering if CPU speed really matter when you play games. I am only going to play fifa, which isn't as graphic intense as other PC games.
Anyways, last year's MacBook Air had 1.7ghz as its processor, and i heard that it ran fifa 13 just fine.
However, this year's processor is only 1.3ghz, which is a lot lower than what i expected....however, according to real tests, the actual laptop speed increased about 5%. It was very surprising to me, but i guess it was cuz of the new gpu.
So, my question is, does CPU clock speed really affect gaming quality? Or if the actual speed increased 5%, does it not matter?
    Thanks in advance!

You need to take into account the # cores when considering processing power. Computers run many processes at once. A duel core processor clocked at 1.7 GHz is not necessarily better than a quad core processor clocked at 1.3 GHz. The best analogy is driving. A two lane road with a the speed limit of 170 MPH. A four lane road with a speed limit of 130 MPH. When there is no traffic, you will arrive at your destination faster taking the first route. But when there is a bunch of traffic, you will be stuck in a bumper to bumper jam. Even though the speed limit is higher on the two lane road, you will arrive at your destination faster taking the four lane road. There are more lanes available to maintain the flow of traffic.
There is always traffic. Your computer runs many processes in the background, and individual games run multiple processes at once. Processing power is a combination of both the speed limit and the number of lanes.
And yes, the GPU should always be taken into account. It is a Graphics Processing Unit. Rendering graphics on your screen correctly is very important in regards to gaming. A discrete GPU is preferable to an a single integrated one, always, for gaming.

  • Angry birds free with Belle update

few days back,i reset my phone by deleting all the data and the angry birds that came free with Belle update on my Nokia 500 also got deleted.how can I get it back.please reply asap.

You should have created a backup of your data before resetting. Now I guess there is no way you can get it back except reinstalling the firmware.

  • Adjust CPU clock speed for saving Power

Does anyone know which software is the best for adjusting the cpu clock speed in Mac book pro? I want to decrease to half of the original speed in MBP so that I can save power when I'm on the battery.
    Thanks

well I do understand what you mean but then I would like to have a software to control the clock speed like I control my fan speed although the default setting does that automatically. I don't really want to use it without a battery because apple does not recommend that also.
    Thank you

  • Low clock speed with amd 3400+

    hi all,
i have an amd 3400+  64bit  and i have downloaded multiple hardware information programs which state that my CPU clock should be between 2.8ghz - 3 ghz with this type of processor, however i only have 2.1 ghz.I have searched the bios and have notice many features are unavilable, i basically cannot change anythings except boot devices and other things that are not usefull to me, my bios does not give the option to change clock speed, or voltage, or bus speed. my current FBS is 201 mhz and my motherboard is  MSI k8T800 7010 with phoenix awardbios 6.00pg version 1.14 03/02/04 can any one help me please i would like to get my processor to the correct speed of 3 ghz.

ah right, so it also says the maximum clock speed is 3000 mhz      , so with overclocking can my processor achieve this?  i have 1 mb of l2 cache.
EDIT what do i do with the bios though because i have a really slow fan that i need to speed up but as i said hardly anything can be done from my bios?!

  • [AMD] Highest clock speed with K8N Neo Plat + A64 3200+ Newcastle?

Who owns the exact setup (ram+cpu+mobo) as me and what is the clock speed you all achieved? Mine can only go till 220x11, Ram at 220mhz,
    (2.4ghz, DDR440)?

The place I bought my parts from were selling similar ready-built systems with K8N and Geil Value Ram (not Golden) so I thought it would have been fine also (same Antec case and PSU)...
300W and 10A is pretty low for a PSU (mine's only 350W and 16A though) - but your problem sounds very much like my original problem (although worse).
Take a look at Ram that does not work well with MSI K8N:

Then i wanted to see if i had a defective motherboard or ram card so i bought a PNY DDR 400 512MB ram stik pulged in at 200 and it worked perfectly.

  • How to get back software I lost with Belle update?

I had the following games installed on my N8 when there was this "Summer Game Gifts" campaign:
    - Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. HD+
    - Angry Birds Seasons
    - The Settlers
    - Angry Birds Rio
    - Monopoly Classic HD
    - Worms HD
    - GT Racing HD+
    - Tetris HD
    - Guitar Rock Tour 2 HD
They are all, besides of almost every other program/app I had installed, lost with the Belle update. Only Tetris is still on my mobile, maybe I had installed it accidentally on C: and not like all the other games on E:
All the games don't appear in my Nokia Store history ... but one game "Brain+" appears in my history but costs now 90c, I downloaded it for free like two months ago.
Why isn't the update making a backup of ALL applications if also applications on E: are deleted during the update process?
And my prime question: How can I get back all this games?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There is a FAQ by Nokia regarding the Belle update and more specifically what apps are not yet compatible.
    http://europe.nokia.com/find-products/nokia-belle-update/nokia-belle-update-faq?intc=ncompromolp-fw-...
So far, the Belle update seems to be the most problematic update yet and given the time it's taken them to release the update since they announced it back in August 2011, you'd have thought it would have been a lot better than this.
    All the best.

  • CPU Clocking speed is under advertised?

I bought this laptop at Best Buy a little over a month ago and I just realized that the clocking speed is 600 MHz under what the advertised speed was and you guys have advanced settings whitelisted(which I completely don't agree with, it'd be my own risk anyways as you can tell if the settings were altered) so how am I supposed to get it to what was advertised? Is there any way of getting in the advanced settings?

    Hi,
    Have you read:
      http://www.amd.com/en-us/innovations/software-technologies/turbo-core
"AMD Turbo Core technology dynamically adjusts to give you a performance boost just when the operating system requests the highest processor performance. If a core is operating below maximum limits and your workload demands additional performance, the processor frequency will dynamically increase until the upper limit of frequency is reached. As your workload subsides, the core returns to normal frequency. This gives you optimized application performance within the thermal and power limits of your APU."

  • CPU Clock speeds

This is a simple one for you guys today.
I have noticed on these forums that most clock speeds are at least 133.  My BIOS is showing
    Current CPU clock 1250
    CPU FSB clock 100
I am no master of the darker regions of the BIOS but should I be running a bit faster looking at my set up below?

    Cheers Guys
Both jumpers J10 and J11 were set to 133/166 already.  I think it must have defaulted at sometime.  I installed SP2 the other day, don't know if that effected it
I changed the set up to manual and changed to 1:1, (the ratio was set to 'By SPD').
    Happy days

  • Dual Core Center displaying wrong CPU clock speed

    Hi,
I've got the 965 Platinum board and I have overclocked my E6300 Allendale to 2.331ghz (from 1.86ghz).  My problem is that the MSI Dual Core Center is showing my CPU as being clocked at 2.997mhz.  It seems to think that, because I've upped the FSB to 333mhz, I must have a CPU with a multiplier of 9 instead of the 7 of the E6300.
If Dual Core Center is not reading the CPU clock correctly how can I trust that it's reading the temperature right (which is really the only reason Ihave it loaded at all).  I know the CPU is only set at 2.331 because the BIOS gets it right, System Properties gets it right and Intel's Thermal Analysis Tool gets it right.  It's only the Dual Core Center that gets it wrong.

Make sure you are using the newest version of DCC.
Other than that, DCC might not be the best tool to monitor your system.

  • How to change CPU clock speed for conserving power?

Hi, I own a compaq CQ60 404CA and I am wondering how I can change the settings for minimal cpu speeds.
I know it automatically sets it's speed down to half when not being used. I want to decrease that even further.
    Is that possible?
I tried Nvidia system tools, but it gives a wrong reading regarding the CPU speeds (2.8ghz when its actually 1.05ghz)
    Thanks
    I've tried:
    1. Changing CPU power settings down to 1%, and even then it stayed at half speed
    2. Checked Bios, but didn't find settings

Yes it is possible, try steps in amd forum guide, here

  • Serious problem with belle update FP2 and 3.75G si...

Hi, I update my Nokia 603 belle to FP2 then when its restarted just after Nokia logo my mobile restarted 3 time and turned off! Even when I turn it on the problem repeated again!!  when I removed my 3.75G sim card it worked! how can I resolve this problem?!
    before Update it working correctly!!

Have you tried with other 3.75G SIM?
I suggest you to turn off the phone, remove the battery and sim, clean the sim, wait for five minutes and put the sim back in and start the phone.
    It should work fine.
    If this doesn't work,
Use old 2G sim card, start the phone and in network settings, switch the network mode to gsm instead of dual or 3G.
Now remove your old sim and insert your 3.75G sim and turn on the phone and try switching mode back to 3G.

  • CPU clock speed throttling severely

My T410s seems to throttle down to below 300mhz when ever I try to do anything intense such as playing a 3D game.
My CPU temp has never gone above 80C.
The laptop rests on a dock with sufficent air flow and cooling.
I have the latest BIOS from Lenovo.
    Any ideas?
    -Michael Archambault

You are not the only one with this particular model facing this issue, if you search a few topics back you will also see others...
If your laptop runs within 80-90 degrees you definitely have overheating problem... if it exceeds 90-95 degrees you will probably start experiencing shutdowns.
CPU overheating was also an issue with previous T400, T500 models.
There were posts about T60s running hot until bios update was available - much later though...
Since your T410s are relatively new and dust should be excluded, I'd suggest reapplying thermal paste.
(From my personal experience) it seems the manufacturers don't use enough and it dries quickly.
