CPU going 100%. Can blocked thread may be a reason?

Hi Team,
May be a dumb question. In my application around 40 threads are in blocked state and CPU is going about 100%. Is blocked threads may be reason for that? As threads are blocked, CPU should not be busy entertaining them, that is the reason why this question came in mind. Can somebody clear my this doubt.
Thanks in advance.

I encounter the same problem, although I run Berkeley DB (Ver 6.0.20, C#) under .NET Framework and Windows server 2008(x64). Any BDB application of win32 runs well but will encounter trouble under platform of x64 when compile BDB to x64, even though the DLL compiled and linked with win32. The bug is that Berkeley DB take amount of memory as the size of databases and regardless of cacheSize. My estimation is that all memory for BDB malloced and NOT freed.

    Hi,
    During consolidation CPU is going 100%.
    can you suggest me some performance tuning tips to improve the performance.
    HFM 9.3.1.2 Build.

    If you are concerned about the processor utilization AND you cannot simply upgrade your hardware AND consolidation time is not an issue for you, then the following registry changes may be for you :
    Key Tree,     Key Name,     Key Type,     Min Value,     Max Value,     Default Value,     Unit of Measure,     Description
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hyperion Solutions\Hyperion Financial Management\Server\Running Tasks,     MaxNumConcurrentConsolidations,     REG_SZ,     1,     8,          Consolidations,     Controls the nubmer of concurrent consolidations allowed per application server. Any consolidations executed above the value are queued as Scheduled Consolidations.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hyperion Solutions\Hyperion Financial Management\Server\Running Tasks,     NumConsolidationThreads,     REG_SZ,     1,     8,          Threads,     Controsl the multi-threading of consolidatiosn per application server. Lowering the value limits the system's utilization of system resources, resulting in slower consolidation performance.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hyperion Solutions\Hyperion Financial Management\Server\Running Tasks,     NumConsolidationsAllowed,     REG_SZ,     1,     20,     8,     Consolidations,     Controls the number of conslidations allower per application across all the application servers.

  • Cpu goes to 100%

    I can open itunes. I can not click on anything on the page without my cpu going to 100% and freezing my computer. If I type in an artist in the search I can sometimes look and purchase music. If I go to another artist my cpu goes to 100% and freezes. The only way to unfreeze it is to go to Windows Task Manager and end task on itunes.

    Running a simple scrollroutine my cpu use is low :

    Hello,
    if you have your note for a year or more and did not take it for an internal heatsink clean and essentials parts, yet.
    One possible problem here is: Heatsink blocked with dust (CPU goes to 100% state svchost takes all resources)
    90% of the high temperatures problems, unexpected shutdowns, 100%CPU all the time without running background processes, very hot keyboard area, freezing programs, are caused by the heatsink blocked with dust.
    The normal temperature for the processor is between 55C and 79C. For the motherboard is around 55C~60C. When the heatsink is blocked those temperatures can reach 99C (processor) and around 80C (motherboard). Measure in Celsius degrees.
    You can check it out how "hot" your Qosmio is.
    Download the Everest ultimate 2006 edition V 3.50.761, look for it with Google search.
    Run it and see the temperatures for CPU, Processor and motherboard on your Qosmio:
    See:
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/qosmioeverest.jpg
    Run the System stability test (find it under tools menu) for 10 minutes aprox.
    Watch the temperatures at taskar. If it reachs more than 92C for the processor on stress mode, its time to clean the heatsink and all essential parts of your Qosmio. Attempt to the processor fan RPM, too, if they run fast and noisy, you really must perform a clean.
    But it depends on the ambient environment, for a 30C summer day the processor temperature almost get the 90C. this is normal in stress mode. And the fans run without noise. Slow RPM mode.
    All measured in Celsius degrees, for Farenheith please convert it.

  • How can a thread kill another blocked thread?

    Hello All,
    As the title mentioned, lets say i have a main class in which i created a new thread but for some reason, this thread is blocked so i want to find a way to kill this thread from the main class (the interrupt function is not working), is there a workarround to do this?
    Thank you in advance

    Hello,
    First of all, thanks for you interventions, i think i should clearify my case:
    I have a website which has a "Search the site" feature where a user can search the site for specific keywords
    The search engine is an external jar which we use by calling its API, but for some reason this search engine becomes blocked sometimes so my jsp which is calling this API gets also blocked and any subsequent search gets also blocked in the end the number of java threads becomes very high in my system!
    i want to find a way so that if the piece of code calling the search API didnt get excuted during a specific period, i want to kill the thread calling the search API
    lets say the search form is submitted to the following jsp
    // Here we have a SearchThread extends Thread
    /* i launched a new Thread to do the search independatly from the main process*/
    SearchThread task = new SearchThread("search_input");
    task.start();
    /* In the searchThread class we have a run method containing the following line which calls the search API, for some reason , this line never returns and keeps the thread in Running state and so the run() method never returns and so the thread will neve be dead :( */
    SearchLoginSession = new SearchLoginSession (configFile, true);
    Notes:
    1) the stop is deprecated i cant use it
    2) the suspend method will suspend it and not kill it, the thread will remain in memory
    3) the interrupt method didnt work
    4)i am working in a multi-cpu environment
    Finally , what i want is to find a way to remove this thread from memory from the main jsp listed above like
    task.kill() or some workarround
    Thank you for reading and hope you can help me

    Importing Audio books CDs to library, downloads slow and CPU goes to 100%, last two tracks take an extreme long time to load, audio is spotty on those two tracks. Any ideas as to why or how to correct

    I think your problem might be in the settings. Your audiobooks might be trying to download like music CDs, and doing error checking and playing while it downloads.
    Here's a link to some really helpful information about how iTunes treats audiobook CDs and how to do it better. It helped me out a lot.

  • Stopping a blocked Thread

    I need to stop a Thread, or interrupt a blocked I/O.
    I'm making a call to a library that I do not own and cannot change. The library makes a HTTP connection to a service and waits for a response. As far as I know, the library uses BufferedReader to read the service response. If the service is down, then no response is ever returned, and the BufferedReader read simply blocks.
    I cannot change the library to be intelligent, of course, and don't have very good luck getting the service support to fix their stuff. But I have to use the library. How can I interrupt the blocked I/O read?
    What I've tried is as follows, but I'm not convinced it's the right way. My application is a long-running application that does not exit very often, so I'm concerned also about gc not properly recycling the resources due to still having the blocked thread still there (and this has impacted subsequent executions, even though I use local variables where I can).
            // Create a new Thread to wait on the submission
            Thread t = new Thread() {
                public void run() {
                    response = event.submit();
            t.setDaemon(true);
            t.start();
            try {
                t.join(timeOut);
                msg = "Attempt to connect to ESM Server timed out";
            catch (InterruptedException e) {
                msg = e.getMessage();
            }The other option I was thinking of, was coding my call to ESM server in a separate Class with a main, and invoking it via Runtime.exec. That way, at least I'm 100% sure that the code exits, and I can use System.out/err to receive the "output".
    Given that Thread.stop() is deprecated, and that you theoretically cannot interrupt blocked I/O, how have others solved this problem?
    Thanks,
    Matt

    ...you theoretically cannot interrupt blocked I/O, how have others solved this problem?I've done it your way. Each thread does an access. If it takes too long, then it may never respond and I ignore it. I also log the error condition and try to notify and administrator.
    Threads probably take up about a megabyte of memory so I may run out of memory it the problem doesn't get fixed by manual intervention.
    Your idea of using Runtime means that you create a new JVM for each ESM. If a thread takes up a megabyte, the new JVM takes up many, many megabytes. Instead of running out of memory in the JVM, you may run out of memory in the Box.
    Every situation is different. My thread approach works for my application. What works best for you is your call.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.1.0 CPU at 100%

    I just install Acrobat 9.0 on a Dual Core 3.16gig with 4gig of ram. I'm on Windows XP SP2.
    I open Adobe and the CPU usage is at 50% all the time Adobe is open so i upgrade to 9.1.0 and try and i have the same problem.
    I don't do anything on the application.. Only open Acrobat.exe ..
    If i try the same installation on my computer with 2gig of ram or less, the CPU goes to 100%..
    Can i do anything to solve that CPU usage ?

    Adobe Tech support was most helpful on this.  First download the updated
    Distiller ICC profile files at:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=4075&fileID= 3790
    Unzip the file and copy only the *.icc files (without regard to the subfolders that they are in - in other words, take the files out of each of the subfolders) to the followng folder in Windows 7:
    c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\color
    These new files will probably overwrite some old ones.
    This solved the problem for me.
    This is actually the best solution though I found that instead of copying all the .icc files to the windows\sys...  folder, all you need to do is copy the 3 Video files from the RGB folder (VideoHD.icc, VideoNTSC.icc, and VideoPAL.icc).  Once you add these three files to  c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\color  you will be good to go.
    It seems that this was an error on the part of Adobe in that there is no reason to include Video files for printing.  Nevertheless, the distiller will look for these and return the ICC profile error message if those files are not present.

    How i can Achieve this?
    Even when set for Sales Document typpe credit check as 'D' and credit group as ;03; ie at Goods Issue still order is not getting confirmed.

    I am not sure, why you want schedule line to be confirmed for credit blocked sales orders. Re-confirm with the client.
    There are controls when defining delivery blocks.
    Goto IMG - Log.Execution-Shipping - Deliveries- Define delivery blocks( check menu path in system, may not be same as shown here).
    Select 01- credit block " untick" from "Confirmation" Column.
