CPU usage 99% when painting ScrollPane

I have a scollpane with specified view by setViewportView. When change the dimension of the view and the size is less than the dimension of viewport of the scrollpane, the cpu usage of javaw.exe is up to 99% and other components are painted slowly.
This problem occurs only in JRE1.4. The class files are run normally in JRE1.3.
Does anyone know the reason?

How much FREE RAM do you have when this occurs. It's easy to tell, when it beach balls open Activity Monitor (Applications - Utilities - Activity Monitor) click the System Memory tab and note how much FREE RAM is listed. If it's 500MB or less it's time for a RAM upgrade.

  • CPU Usage high when USB eneabled

I have a PC running Windows XP with a MS6340 (V5) motherboard and Athlon XP 1800 processor.
When getting a poor response I noticed that the performance tab on Task manager showed that CPU usage was wildly fluctuating between 50-60%. This was farily soon after booting up and nothing else was running. The Processes tab on task manager showed that there were no processes running which got anywhere near accounting for this.
I downloaded a program called Iarsn TaskInfo2002 which shows that the CPU Usage was because of something called Interrupts Time placeholder and (to a lesser extent) DPC Time Placeholder.
Anyway the interesting thing is that  by disabling my USB ports (via device manager) and then rebooting the problem was gone. (Interrupts Time and DPC Placeholders don't clock anything.)
Now, however, I have a USB camera and Printer and so MUST get my USB ports enabled again.
I can enable them after booting and then the problem is not as bad, but I nearly always forget to disable them again before shutting down and then next time its a pain.
    Is this likely to be
    A motherboard problem,
    BIOS problem
    Windows XP problem
    or me being stupid.
Any (polite) advice would be gratefuilly received
    SIDDY

    Hi,
    It's not a motherboard problem.
As the board only provides the ports, nothing more.
The program that queries the ports for data is most likely the problem.
Try deinstalling the printer or camera software, see what happens.

  • CPU usage 100%  when WLS 10.3.3 is idle on OS X 10.6.4 (Snow Leopard)

I've installed WLS 10.3.3 on OS X 10.6.4 and executed using the instructions in the README (including setting the MEM_ARGS).
Upon startup, the CPU usage spikes to ( then stays ) around *104%* ( dual-core CPU ); this, of course cripples the computer to where all running applications suffer. Attempting to access the console, brings the system to it's knees. This happens even if it is the only (non-system) application running.
We need to be able to run WLS on our local development machines (MacBook Pros from 2007-present).
We are currently running OAS (OC4J) on the machines with out any issues (CPU usage at OAS idle = ~1.1%).
Are there any WLS performance settings that can be adjusted to alleviate the CPU utilization issue?

    Thank you!
The key was modifying the "setDomainEnv.sh" file (this file is generated using the domain GUI configuration tool).
I added the following at the top of the script (just below the comments):
    JAVA_VENDOR="Sun"
    export JAVA_VENDOR
    I modified:
    SUN_JAVA_HOME=""
    export SUN_JAVA_HOME
    ...to be:
    SUN_JAVA_HOME="/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.6.0/Home"
    export SUN_JAVA_HOME
Now when I execute the container, it consumes only 0.2% of the CPU.
    Thanks again,

  • Cpu usage high when loading cache group

    Hi,
What are the possible reasons that results high cpu usage when loading read-only cache group with big root table (~ 1 million records)? I have tried setting Logging=0 (without cache agent), 1 or 2 but it doesn't help. Are there any other tuning configuration required to avoid high cpu consumption?
ttVersion: TimesTen Release 6.0.2 (32 bit Solaris)
Any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

High CPU usage is not necessarily a problem as long as the CPU is being used to do useful work. In that case high CPU usage shows that things are being processed taling maximum advantage of available CPU power. The single most common mistake is to not properly size the primary key hash index in TimesTen. Whenever you create a table with a PK in TimesTen (whetehr it is part of cache group or just a standalone table) myou must always specify the size of the PK hash index using the UNIQUE HASH ON (pk colukns) PAGES = n clause (see the documentation). n should be set to the maximum number of rows expected in the table / 256. The default is sized for a table of just 4000 rows! If you try and load 1M rows into this table we will be wasting a lot of CPU time serially scanning the (very long) hash chains in each bucket for every row inserted...

  • NIScope CPU usage 100% when waiting for trigger

Hello, I'm using a NI 5102 DAQ card and want to acquire single bursts. However when the Multi Fetch.vi is waiting for a trigger (and this can be up to a minute) the CPU usage goes up to 100 %. Is there any way to overcome this?
    Attachments:
    Current_ProjectSWEEP2withoutAgilentNEWScopeWrite_to_FilePOSTED.vi ‏98 KB
    ScopeSUB.vi ‏108 KB

Yea, Ive noticed the same thing.  The niSope dll in the Fetch.vi grabs 100% CPU if timeout is larger than 1 or 2 seconds.
Has anyone talked to NI about this?  The problem is in that dll which is polling the PCI Scope Card.  That dll is not giving back any CPU if it waits for more than a second or two.

I think most people have been seeing the problems in any of the 2.6.35 kernels, so 2.6.34.3 would be my recommendation

  • Hyperthreading on VM Machine - cpu usage differs when enabled or not?

    hi Everyone
I think my question is related to this thread
    Hyperthreading on VM Machine
I am a newbie to Oracle VM, so would really appreciate any help. Here is the scenario:
    OVM server/manager version: 3.0.2
    Processor: Intel Westmere
    Workload: light
    vcpu/VM = 1
    VM type: PVM
    VM OS: OE Linux 6.1
When Hyperthreading is turned on in the BIOS, OVM manager GUI shows around 4% server cpu util. However, with hyperthreading off (each VM still assigned I vcpu) the server cpu util jumps to 7-8% range. Is such a big difference normal? From what I have seen in the forums seem to indicate otherwise. I would really appreciate it if anyone can provide some direction. Thanks.

  • High CPU Usage On client application when upgrade remote SQL database

    Hi,
Is anyone here encountered very high CPU usage after upgraded the database from SQL 2005 to SQL 2012? Following describes my issue.
I have my client application running on Windows 7 that access to central database (SQL 2005) on Windows server 2003 using ODBC connection, this client application basically query data and perform data insert and update. There are a number of this similar
    clients connected to the database.
Due to slowness of the database server, company decided to upgrade the database server to SQL 2012 and also new hardware runing Windows Server 2012. There is no change on the client application and client hardware and the client application still using the
same ODBC connection to query, insert or update the new database server.
The problem I am now experiencing now is that my client PC where my client application running the CPU usage is very high almost hitting 100% when accessing to the central database. I am also noticed this program lsass.exe that utilized almost 40-50% of
the CPU time when client application accessing the central database.
Is anyone here know, why client PC CPU usage 100% when access to upgraded SQL 2012 database? What is lsass.exe program doing, it only appear when accessing to database server. How to reduce the CPU usage on client?
    Thanks.

    Hello,
After upgrading, please rebuild indexes and update statistics on the databases.

  • High cpu usage when the system is idle

I do have a high cpu usage problem when the system is idle. I bought the laptop (lenovo x230 tablet) with windows 7 installed in it. Then upgraded to windows 8. But ever since I have problems with high cpu usage by the system even when the computer is idle.
Only the system by itself uses around 30% of the cpu all the time. I ran xperf, and here is the result of it:
    http://sdrv.ms/Kj6CFN
I appreciate any help you can provide.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
I'm sorry for that the log you provide can't be opened on my computer. While according to your description, it should had a special process that consume CPU usage when system idle Iguess, isn't it?
    You can use
Process Explorer to monitor the process activity, may be we can find the reason of this problem.
Note: We can use Process Explorer to check the Stack of every process then analyize the problem in deep.
To gave a better insight about this problem, you can take a ScreenShot for this problem and provide the picture here.

  • 100% cpu usage with wm

    hi everybody,
i wonder if anybody can help me with this rather odd issue.
i have been using my Zen Touch 20GB (enjoyable little gadget) for quite a while now, uploading mp3's and wma's without any problems (roughly 6GB).
over the last few weeks i had more and more issues with my system freezing and the task manager showing the process CTPdeSrv.exe taking up 00% of my CPU usage. the only possibility to continue working on my PC was to end the process. i found the hint in your knowledge base to perform a disk cleanup (SID 6228) but the problem persisted. i then deleted and reinstalled the Creative MediaSource Player that came with the Zen Touch. problem persisted. i upgraded to v3.30.2. problem persisted. after spending an afternoon deleting/installing different combinations of your software and narrowing down the possibilities i discovered that i only get this problem when i try to rip a CD with MediaSource to wma, chosing mp3's everything works fine. the same problem (00% CPU usage) occurs when i try to access the plugged in Zen with MediaSource, Winamp, Realplayer or even Windows Explorer. so it must be a player thing.
i have interchanged the used USB2.0-ports as well. i also tried all the suggested steps under point "I have connection problems with my Zen, what can I do?" @ nomadness.net.
i haven't reloaded the OS on my Zen cos i'm afraid when i delete it and attempt to copy the downloaded firmware v.0.03, my Zen will produce the same error and i loose my music plus can't use the player anymore.
i'd appreciate some help very much.
    cheers.

PS: somebody had a similar problem (user Samsuri posted 09-05-05), but the suggested solution (reinstalling the SW) didn't help at all

I had the same problem that you experienced. I also was unable to get any cd infor from Gracenote. I haven't had my Zen Touch very long (bought it on ebay) but I had added several songs from my library and all worked great. Then all of a sudden the other day I was getting 00% cpu useage and the cd info problem?!! I figured that seeing it was new to me anyway I'd update the firmware and go to the Explorer for PlaysForSure version. The upgrade was a breeze and my problem with the 00% cpu has disappeared so far and cd info works again. All is good, but... When I boot the machine I automatically go to the system 32 folder? No idea why and who knows if you'll get the same problem. I just close that after boot and everything seems to be working fine. I plan to look into the system 32 situation and that's actually why I joined this forum. If anyone has an answer for me on that I'd appreciate it.
    Thanks

  • Microsoft Office 2004 -- extremely high cpu usage and virtual ram

    hi,
when i use office it causes a very high cpu usage even when its in idle mode.
i am unable to work with it, because its extremely slow.
    does anyone have same experiences?
    thanks for your help!
    mbp 2.0 1,5gb ram 80gb hdd   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I am able to work OK with office, I'm using the 'old version' Microsoft Office v.X, not much details in the About Box, just listed as MSoft Word/Excel/etc for Mac service release 1.
I get the occasional crash, and I have seen Word in particular use 90% of a single core and amazingly large virtual memory usage, gigabytes sometimes, but eventually the document gets printed.
It shows how useful the dual core (or quad) cpu approach is!
One cpu for Word to print, and one cpu to run the rest of my applications/life!
I still use this old office rather than re-booting into Window§ for whatever is the latest version of office.
Doing some playing with a similar one page document in Office v.X and Pages 2.01, I get Word using about 25% of a core , Pages using 5%, - whilst editing; Intel native Pages has 20% of a core and 80MB ram 480 virtual whilst printing, Word has about 100% of a core and 65MB ram 650 virtual whilst printing, but it is a powerPC code so Rosetta is in there somewhere.
check Activity Monitor or other apps/widgets for some parasitic processes? have fun!

  • Why does my cq-62 laptop gives me warnings about High CPU usage?

I have a CQ61-420US Notebook with Nortons 360 installed. Recently I have been getting a warning pop-up from Nortons saying, I have High CPU usage. When I check the box I am taken to a Norton System performance page that indicates 90% CPU usage. Can anyone help?

Right click on the taskbar empty space and select "Start Task Manager", you can leave it running and minimize it, it will give you an animated graph in the taskbar you can watch.
Depending on what your are doing on the PC, this may or may not be a problem.
If you are not doing much on the PC when it uses 90% then there could be a problem.

  • Dock constantly at about 10% CPU usage?

    Hi everybody,
I'm new to the mac, so please excuse me if this is a stupid question!
When I take a look at the activity monitor, the Dock is always at 9.5-10% CPU usage, even when it's hidden. Is this normal? I can't imagine it's meant to be this way, 10% is quite a lot for a simple menu, in my opinion...
    Thank you for your help!

Okay, I have found the cause of the problem, and I don't get it.
The longer my chrome browser has been open, the higher is the CPU usage of the dock. After a couple of hours it'll be at 2-3%, after a day or two it'll be around 10%. When I just quit chrome the Dock's CPU usage drops to 0%, whenI start it again (with all the same tabs open saved and reopened), the Dock's CPU usage will remain at 0 for a while and then start creeping upwards again.
