CR4E for Eclipse 3.4

How is the work progressing on this project, is it still in Alpha? We are already looking at 3.4 and it would be good to have a compatible CR4E version faster than we did for 3.3.

We have used your Crystal reports for Eclipse (CR4E) but it is taking long time to load if the record count is more than 3 million
Our architecture is we are using Oracle DB and web sphere application server both are running on SUN server,
If we buy original version it will work fast?
Or do you have alternative solution for this, this one to implement one of our major client

You have 3 million records, this is going to take time to process. Also, you don't define what is meant by a long time. Are we talking a couple of minutes, or something more like 20 minutes?
The real question is, do you really need the report to bring back 3 million records? Could you do any filtering of the data to reduce the number of records being brought back? Also, 3 million records could vary. is each record a single field, or is it multiple. The more fields, the larger the result set.
Another thing you want to look at, is just how long is the query taking to run against the database.

Sub-reports DO NOT WORK in Crystal for Eclipse v2

Hi, 
 
We have recently upgraded from Crystal JRC to CR4E 12.2.202. Our application updates the JDBC connections at runtime to supply credentials. 
 
Everything seems to be working except sub reports. When using sub reports we get the error shown below. 
 
On reading other forum posts, the top error about PropertyResourceBundle just seems to be about trying 
to print an error message from the real exception, which is in the third stack trace below: 
Error code:-2147217394 Error code name:missingParameterValueError 
 
Any idea what has changed and how we can resolve this issue?

We raised a support issue on this and was given a work around.
With Crystal for Eclipse, you can no longer use "dynamically" generated sub report parameters, you must manually add the parameter to the sub report and apply a record level selection formula.
Steps for the work around:
1. Open the sub report and manually add a parameter field in the field explorer. You can call it whatever you want, but make sure the data type is correct. It should match the datatype that will be passed in by the main report.
2. Click Report -> Selection formula -> Record
3. Enter in a formula like this: {MYTABLE.ID} = {?subreportparam}
4. Save and close
5. Go back to the main report
6. Right click the sub report -> Change sub report links
7. Drag a report field into the fields to link list
7. In sub report parameter field to use, select you're newly created parameter and click OK

Problem with Crystal reports for Eclipse and Postgres-databases

Hi,
Is there a known problem when using a PostgreSQL-database to create a report with Crystal reports Plugin? When I drag a table, then occurs a error-windows, that the object can't created.
I have found a workaround for solving the problem. After new installing Eclipse Platform Version: 3.4.1 Build id: M20080911-1700 and Crystal reports Plugin 11.8.6.v1371 with JRE 1.6.0_01 the error message allways occurs, when I select a table from a PostgreSQL database (Version 8.2). After restarting eclipse you see the last selected tables in the field explorer and you can drag the table fields in the report. A repeated choice of the same table causes aliases for the table in the field explorer after restarting eclipse.

Your issue appears to be a Crystal Reports for Eclipse report designer thing, and not a JRC runtime thing. The JRC runtime does support Type 4 JDBC drivers, but all modern PostgreSQL drivers are Type 4.
The current report designer is more restrictive than the JRC runtime - and PostgreSQL, being not on the supported platforms list, has never been tested with the embedded designer.
Unless there's anybody out there with experience with PostgreSQL and CR4E designer, who would be willing to share their experiences.

If you wish to use the Eclipse IDE Software Updater:
1. Start Eclipse 3.4.1 (Gemini) IDE.
2. Select Help -> Software Updates...
3. Select the "Available Software" tab.
4. Click the "Manage Sites..." button.
5. If you do not see the following URL listed:
http://downloads.businessobjects.com/akdlm/crystalreportsforeclipse/2_0/update_site/
 then click "Add..." and add it.
6. Select the above URL in the "Available Software Sites", then click "OK".
7. The Available Software should now list the above URL. Open the node, and you should see "Crystal Reports for Eclipse".
8. Check all checkboxes for "Crystal Reports for Eclipse", and "Install..."
After successful update, you'll see version 2.0.1 listed in Help -> About Eclipse SDK and clicking on the "Crystal Reports for Eclipse" icon (blue swoosh with green diamond).
If you don't see that version listed, here's some troubleshooting tips:
Open a web browser, and Go to the following URL:
http://downloads.businessobjects.com/akdlm/crystalreportsforeclipse/2_0/update_site/site.xml
You should get back a XML file listed the current CR4E plugin and language packs versions. If you get an error instead, it may be because (1) you're in a locked down environment that won't let you access that site, or (2) the CR4E Update Site may be down for maintenance. If the former, you'll have to download the updates by some other means and upgrade manually.

I simplified the code, *myResult("SELECT * FROM table") * is absolutely no problem ,
and this code is absolutely no problem in the "crystal report for eclipse "version 1
but in version 2 run error:

Connection problem in Crystal Reports for Eclipse(SQL Server Express 2008)

I tried to connect into a local SQL Server Express 2008 database in Crystal Reports for Eclipse (CR4E), but always got the Ping failed message(TCP/IP connection failed) even I tests completed successfully using my Window XP Adminstrators Tools (SQL Server ODBC Data Source Test). I can connect successfully to a remote network Oracle database in CR4E. I would like to know
that is there any one who connect SQL Server Express 2008 local database successfully in CR4E?

Thanks for your suggestions. I will follow your instruction to connect to SQL Server Express 2008 database latelly. I can connect successfully with different Oracle databases (10g) in CR4E. I will try to connect MySQL database and Postgres database in CR4E to see if they can be successful or not. My project involves international entities with emphsizing in using OPEN SOURCE softwares (which means FREE - no license fees) in .NET platform for Oracle, SQL Server Express, MySQL and Postgres database servers. I am responsible for reports generation. I hope that CR4E can be connected successfully to SQL Server Express 2008 database server, otherwise I have to use JFreeReport/JFreeChart tools to do reports generation .

Crystal Reports for Eclipse vs. Crystal Reports Developer

We are developing a Java web application for internal use. Since we have some people at the company who are familiar with Crystal Reports, we'd like to have them write reports that we can display through our application. Crystal Reports Server seems like overkill for this project, but the <a href="http://devlibrary.businessobjects.com/BusinessObjectsXIR2/en/devsuite.htm#en/JRC_SDK/">JRC</a> sounded like a good fit.
I have been evaluating <a href="http://www.businessobjects.com/products/reporting/crystalreports/developer/default.asp">Crystal Reports Developer</a> and trying out the <a href="http://support.businessobjects.com/communityCS/FilesAndUpdates/crxi_r2_jrc_web_samples.zip.asp">JRC samples</a>. The samples don't use the tag library. Instead, they show how to set session variables and redirect to a viewer JSP which contains a bunch of Java code to use the CrystalReportViewer.
The samples are so much more complex than the code created by Crystal Reports for Eclipse, which simply uses the tag library:

I assume that I should be able to use the same tag library approach without using Crystal Reports for Eclipse, but I haven't seen any tutorials on it. I'm trying to understand whether I should purchase Crystal Reports for Eclipse instead of Crystal Reports Developer.
This is the difference, as I understand it:
Crystal Reports Developer gives you the stand-alone Crystal Reports Designer and the right to run the JRC on an internal server. It costs <a href="http://store.businessobjects.com/store/bobjects/DisplayProductDetailsPage/productID.40434600">$595</a>.
Crystal Reports for Eclipse Standard provides a free report designer built into Eclipse. It also includes the JRC for use on an internal server.
Crystal Reports for Eclipse Professional provides "a more powerful runtime engine" with the right to run it on one internal server. It costs <a href="http://store.businessobjects.com/store/bobjects/DisplayProductDetailsPage/productID.52068100">$495</a>. Is this the same JRC provided with Crystal Reports Developer?
If the "powerful" JRC is the same as Crystal Reports Developer's JRC, could I install Crystal Reports for Eclipse Standard to take advantage of the Eclipse integration and the built-in designer, but use the more powerful JRC from Crystal Reports Developer, which would also give me the stand-alone designer?

Hi there, If you are planning on deploying a JRC application then you should definitely be using Crystal Reports for Eclipse for your runtime engine. It is the latest version of the JRC and includes many updates not available in Crystal Reports Developer.As for "power" the JRC included in CR Developer is on par with the JRC available in the Basic edition of Crystal Reports for Eclipse. The Professional edition of Crystal Reports for Eclipse provides the most powerful version of the JRC available.With the release of Crystal Reports for Eclipse, Business Objects is setting the groundwork for separating Developer needs from the Report Author needs.A professional report author will require a professional report design tool. Unable to download the Crystal Reports for Eclipse

Hi,I could able to see the download links for "Crystal Reports for Eclipse" in diamond site. But i am not able to download the file completely and the download is not supporting the resume option. Some times the downloads crosses 50% and finally the connection gets disconnected.Is there any alternate way to download the content?Regards,Senthil

I just made a try, just to check ifÂ our web site was having any troubles today, and it worked fine, so I assume you might be experiencing some troubles on your side with your internet connexion.

Cannot Install Crystal Reports for Eclipse v2.0 on Mac OSX

I've tried to install the Crystal Reports plug-in to my Eclipse environment without any success. No matter what I try, I get the same error message:
"Cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found.
Missing requirement: 1271104370856 0.0.0.1271104370856 requires 'com.businessobjects.crystalreports.integration.eclipse.feature.feature.group [2.0.6.r916]' but it could not be found"
To the best of my knowledge, I've installed all the correct pre-requisites listed on the SAP website. I've tried every search I can think of and have found nothing that helps.
I'm at my wits end...please help!

Note that the Crystal Reports for Eclipse 2.0 plugin is not supported nor tested on MacOS, regardless of version.
Feedback I've gotten is that the installation fails for the embedded designer components.
The Crystal Reports Java SDK runtime components - the library used to run rpt files on desktop of web apps using Java - is supported and tested on MacOS 10.5
You'll note that the Supported Platform guide for CR4E 2.0 is specific in listing support only for the Runtime.

is it possible to use Crystal Reports for Eclipse with the Crystal Report Server
like i can do it in Crystal Reports.
For Example open a Report file directly from the server edit and save there.

Yes, you can use the CR Server product in your Eclipse project. However, you will need to use the RAS SDK in your project instead of the CR4E SDK.

Crystal Reports for Eclipse - Licensing

My company is looking for a reporting solution which can easily be integrated into an existing J2EE web application. CR4E seems to be a very interesting candidate but the license terms are a bit unclear to me.
It is mentionned on your site that the Eclipse plugins needed for development + the runtime JRC are available free of charge. However, this is contradicting the license terms in section 4.9 (Crystal Reports for Eclipse) of the [Business Objects License Agreement|https://boc.sdn.sap.com/node/449]:
Crystal Reports for Eclipse may be licensed in one of the following ways: 1) In the form of a no-fee Development License which may be downloaded at www.businessobjects.com/eclipse following completion of the required registration information; or 2) in the form of production use ERE Licenses pursuant to your completion and submission of appropriate ordering documentation and payment of applicable license and Support fees.
1) This section seems to indicate that the purchasing of an ERE license is required to use the product in production. Could you clarify this?
2) Assuming that CR4E can be used in development and production free of charge, I have seen that a keycode is required to remove watermarks from the report and to be able to run the JRC. The website mention that a free registration is needed to obtain this keycode. However, I was able to download the keycode from the site without any registration. Can we use the keycode I downloaded for multiple development environments and in the web applications we are going to deploy in production? Can the keycode expires? What is its purpose if it can be obtained without registration?

If so, then that's the Crystal Reports for Eclipse - Basic keycode. No expiry. Licensing described above applies.
Note that this keycode comes with 2 Concurrent Processing License (CPL), meaning that it services two concurrent report requests simultaneously, and further requests are queued. A "report request" isn't per-report, per-session or per-user, but any request for processing by the JRC - any clicks on the DHTML viewer for next page, last page, refresh, etc takes up a CPL till a result is returned to the client.
Note that CR4E version 1 JRC (jar version 11.8) allows you to use the Crystal Reports Developer XI Release 1 or Release 2 keycode. If you use these keycodes, then you get 3 CPLs. However, different licensing will apply, as described here:

Unable to install the "Maven Integration for Eclipse" plugin

I am having trouble trying to install the "Maven Integration for Eclipse" plugin.
The tab Installed list the plugin with an Install button activated.
Then when I click on Install, I get the following log:

Installation Fails via Update Site for Eclipse 3.2.1

Hi Cameron, I believe the error message is indicating that our plugin is requiring a version of org.eclipse.ui 3.1.0 or higher. Does your current version of Eclipse have Crystal Reports for Eclipse already installed? If not, then it is likely you will need additional plugins from the Eclipse.org site which are not installed by default. I just tried this on my end and selected the Callisto Discovery Site as well as the Business Objects site. After selecting the latest version of CR4E, I expanded the Callisto Discovery Site and clicked the "Select Required" button. This allowed my download to go through. Can you confirm that you are following these steps? If you like I can upload a doc with a selection of screenshots demonstrating the steps I followed. Let me know and I will post it in a follow-up. CR for Eclipse Update Released

Hello All! A new update for Crystal Reports for Eclipse is now available. This update contains fixes reported by CR for Eclipse users. For a list of the fixes available, consult the <a href="http://www.businessobjects.com/products/dev_zone/eclipse/cr4e-updates-readme.pdf" target="_blank">readme.pdf</a>. To get the latest updates, use the Update Manager in Eclipse. If you don't already have CR for Eclipse installed, follow the steps found <a href="/node/432" target="_blank">here</a> and you will get the latest version. If you already have CR for Eclipse installed, then follow the instructions below: 1. From Eclipse, click on the Help menu, and then Software Updates > Find and Install... to open the Install/Update wizard. 2. Select "Search for updates of the currently installed features" and click Next. If, and when, prompted with the Update Site Mirrors dialog, simply accept the default mirror sites and click on OK to continue. This may take a few minutes to complete. 3. After the update manager finished searching for available updates, the following dialog appears. Ensure the Business Objects Update Site is checked. If you do not wish to install the other updates, uncheck the update(s) that are not required. I don't want to install for:
1) I would be the only developer on my team with it installed (differing development environments begs for disaster)
2) There seems to be a real disconnect in how Crystal is begin updated. For example, can you tell which version of the Crystal jars CR4E is using?
I was previously using CR XI R2 jar files in my project. I ran into a snag (JRC failed to honor table alias names) in which the tech rep suggested I "back down" to using the CR4E jar files to fix my problem. I now have a case logged in which the native pervasive driver has a major disconnect while retrieving the data. This fix is in FP2.4 for CR XI R2. See my scenario? What is being fixed in one release is getting broken in another.
My only purpose with the JRC is to run the reports. I do my design work in the CR designer.
Yes, I am fully aware my key for CR XI works in CR4E as well as CR XI R2.
