Cracked iPod touch 4th gen screen, will apple repair it for free? Ive had it 4months

My boyfriend bought me the latest iPod touch for Christmas 2011. I've had it 4 months, yesterday I put it on the coffee table round my mates and my mate accidentally knocked it off (table was no higher than half a metre), when I picked it up I realised there is a crack in the screen. I know apple give you a year warrantee on all iPods but my boyfriend never bought the extended warrantee. As I've only had my iPod touch 4 months will apple fix it for free or will I have to pay? Also how long does it take to get repaired?

It is not covered by warranty.  However, sometimes if you make an appointment at the Genisu Gar of an Apple store the Genius will exchange it at no cost. Otherwise the exchange price is:
Apple - Support - iPod - Repair pricing
Apple exchanges iPods and does not repair yours so if yu go to an Apple store they will exchange it on the spot.

If I replace my Ipod touch 4th gen screen with a local company other then Apple will the Apple warrenty be void or will the warrenty be void if I replace the screen myself?

Regardless of what Apple may or may not say about repair work done by a third party (a non-Apple company or you yourself), the Magnuson-Moss Act precludes them from voiding your warranty simply because you had work done by a third party or used non-OEM parts.  Typically people hear of thie Act as it is applied to cars. Car manufacturers cannot require you go to a dealership for repairs or that you use OEM parts. They cannot void your warranty for doing that. The Act applies to all consumer goods. Computer manufacturers cannot require you send your computer to them for memory upgrades or that you use memory supplied by them. Apple cannot require you to go to Apple for repair work or that you use Apple parts in that repair.
With that said, though, if you have a problem in the future, Apple could make the claim that it was the result of damage from improper repair or substandard parts. Your only recourse would be the court system, not a quick or inexpensive endeavor.

I have a few scratches on my iPod touch 4th gen screen and it really bothers me and I need a way to fix it without replacing the screen or causing further damage

Hey Pandorafromtn, Not to rub salt in you open wounds, but prevention would have cost less than $10! Anything that will remove the scratches will most likely ruin the screen. I am aware of a product that works well for fill scratches in eyeglasses. It paints on, is kind of milky semi-transparent then drys to a haze. You then rub / polish until clear. Will it damage the coating on an iPod screen? I don't know. But may be for not, I can't remember the name of the stuff. I guess contact a eye care center, they may be able to help. Replacing the screen would be the best option you have or learn to live with it. In the future use a case and/or screen protector. Or you could start working on your incantations, "Oculus Repairus!" Don't forget the flick of the wrist to get your wand in the correct angle as you state "Repairus". All joking aside, Good luck. Cheers.

  • Ipod touch 4th gen. screen is white

We were editing photos on ipod touch 4th gen. screen turned white. Turned it off and back on and it said no photos and videos were found. Turned it off and back on again and it says it needs to be restored.  Don't know what has happened.  Why would it wipe out photos and videos?  Can I get around restoring it?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • How do i fix my ipod touch 4th gen when the apple logo appears and then a whit screen comes up and turns off and it wont charge and it wont connect to itunes

My ipod touch 4th gen is a having a few problems with charging and turning on, my ipod comes up with the  extremely low on power symbol and then i put it into my computer and it comes up with the charging symbol then it goes to the apple logo and then onto a blank white screen and then turns off and repeats that process i have tried various things including resetting my ipod trying to connect it to itunes but it doesnt come up with anything so i cant reset it on itunes and have tried various charging devices.

Tried it but it won't do anything all it does is make the screen do a very small flash of white and then continues doing the same thing appearing with apple logo then the white screen and off and keeps repeating that
I'm guessing the white small flash means it's been reset when I hold the 2 buttons down,
    Thanks for suggesting.

  • Ipod Touch 4th gen Screen design

I dropped my ipod touch 4th gen and the screen break instantly.
Its just a half a meter drop and it crack. I went to the service center. They told me that they does not repair the screen but have to buy a new one when my ipod still can listen to Mp3, Play game, surf net using wifi.
Its my fault that I dropped but I think most product in the market which dropped on the floor wont break like how my ipod touch 4th gen did

My son dropped his ipod touch 4th gen of the couch and less than 30 cm fall landed on cd case which was cushioned by carpet. Screen crack resulting. I am considering taking apple to the small claims tribunal in Victoria as I believe the product doesn't meet its basic intended purpose of being portable. With such a fragile screen caution should be used at all times. A safety screen should be provided with the product when sold as it is really of poor quality and is very fragile. I am not anti apple and up until this product they have been a fantastic product. In our family we have a ipad, two iphones and three other ipods. My first nano is still kicking strong. All these items have had occassional drops and normal wear and tear subjected too be portable. Look lets be honest if my son dropped on concrete or threw against the wall fair enough one would expect it to break. But a 30 cm fall on a plastic cd case this product breaks easier that an egg shell. It is a pathetic design for something that should be portable. I have not got 140 dollars to fork out on another ipod touch when it will break again if it is sneeezed on.

  • IPod Touch 4th Gen Screen Twitch/Multitouch screen fail

iPod Touch 4th Generation screen stops registering my finger strokes after moderate use. Notice it first when scrolling left/right on home page, hold finger in one spot and the icons start twitching. Then I try to use the keyboard and all the keys start firing off as I hold my finger down in one spot.
Often happens when I'm away from my computer, the only thing that helps is syncing with iTunes 10.1. Hard reset/turn off does not change the problem.
The problem most often occurs when the iPod is charging via USB on my Dell Inspiron laptop, or charging from an older 3rd party charger I got free for buying a case for my older iPod Touch 2nd gen. It also happens when plugged in to a Monster car FM modulator made for the original iPod touch.
The problem started with an 8gb I got just 3 weeks ago. I returned it and bought at 32gb which does the same thing.
It is a serious problem which renders the iPod totally unusable for long periods of time.

  • Cracked iPod Touch 4th generation screen-Help!

    Hello.
In December, I bought an iPod Touch 4th generation. It is 16 GB. Yesterday, when trying to take a picture, I dropped my iPod and now the screen has many cracks. However, both cameras were not damaged, and the device seems to work fine. Also I have a screen protector on it.
First of all, I dont know if I should replace it, keep it, or get a new one.
On replacing: Can the screen actually be replaced? Or can the cracks be helped? And how much would it cost? Would Apple charge me for it? (there is an apple store about 40 mins away) Or should I just take it to one of those repair shops at the mall?
On keeping it: As I said, the device works fine, but there are many cracks.
On getting a new one: I do not have AppleCare, but it has been under a year, so would the warranty be violated? Or not, because it was my own mistake? Would Apple replace it? Also, I do not have enough iCloud storage, so if I got a new iDevice, my data would be lost. Wouldnt it?
Finally, on that last topic, can you buy iCloud storage with an iTunes card? And can I cancel it?
    Please help me. Thank you.

  • Cracked iPod Touch 4th Gen

So I checked my iPod this morning and noticed a crack in the corner. I saw that the warranty will not cover the repair, so will i at least be able to get it exchanged? I have no money and I am a college student looking for work. Is there any possible way for me to get it repaired or exchanged without selling my stuff?

  • Ipod Touch 4th Gen screen damaged

    Hi everyone.
My daughter got an ipod touch for her birthday in October and has been using it every day since. A couple of days ago the dog jumped up her and she dropped her ipod on the floor. Everything still works but there are 2 slim white lines across the bottom of the screen. I have to say I was quite surprised by the damage because she dropped it on to the carpeted floor which is pretty soft.
I know that the apple store probably won't do anything because she did drop it but are the screens really that fragile that they can break after being dropped on to a soft surface or is it possible that her screen was faulty. It is a shame because she has only had it for 2 months and was really upset that her screen is broken.
If we have to pay to get it repaired does anyone know how much the apple store in the UK would charge?

Apple does not repair iPods, but will replace the entire iPod for a flat fee; see the Repair Pricing section here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/faq/
There are independent iPod repair services that may be able to replace the screen for less. Do a web search for "ipod repair". Note, though, that if you elect to have the iPod serviced by an unauthorized shop, all further support from Apple will be void.
    Regards.

  • Is it normal for your iPod touch 4th gen screen to come off on its own?

So I have had my iPod touch for a while now. I understand that things get old and fall apart eventually, but what confuses me is how does the screen come off on its own? I noticed it a few weeks ago when I was reading a book that some light was able to come out from the top area of the screen where the camera is located. I started to investigate about it and turns out the the top area of the iPod had came loose. A few days later I noticed that it started to get worse. It started to allow me to see the components on the inside. Then my screen turned off not allowing my to turn it back on when I later found out that one of the cables that connect the screen had came lose and popped off the connection for it. What should I do? Please help me and tell me what I should do to fix it.

"Do you have any duct tape?" Seriously, no it shouldn't come off, contact your Apple genius bar and get it fixed. Good luck.
