Crash after attempting to import media
I just purchased elements 9, and I tried importing media from my DV camera. Every single time I did that, I got some crazy looking error. I have included screenshots of the error.
The page these images are on was a page I was looking at to try and figure out where the crashes are coming from. I had already contacted customer support, and they said uninstall and reinstall everything. So, I did that and still the same thing.
I have a Windows platform, XP, AMD Phenom II X3 720 processor, 2.81 Ghz, 2 GB RAM,
I don't know what other information might be relevant, but this editor is essentially worthless if I can't import media from my camera.
Well officially you should be able to run with 1GB (2GB for HD editing), but empirical evidence shows that that is quite unrealistic. A minimum 4GB RAM + Quad-Core processor and multiple fast hard disks are pretty much essential for AVCHD editing.
But feed it DV-AVI Type 2 files and PRE on 2GB ought to work for you, especially if you work through Clean, Lean & Mean Editing Machine - One Workflow.
And in case you haven't seen the basic tips:
Install all Windows Updates.
Install latest version of Apple QuickTime (v7.6.8 at time of writing). Even if you don't use QuickTime, PRE relies heavily on it.
Install most recent graphics and sound drivers from the manufacturers web sites.
Run Disk Cleanup.
Run Defragmenter.
Temporarily disable any anti-virus realtime scanning.
Cheers,
Neale

IPhoto crashes after attempt to import photos
While trying to import a bunch of photos from my camera's SD card, iPhoto crashed and continued to crash every time I try to reopen iPhoto. I'm not only looking for help to resolve this, but also wondering if there is something I should be doing differently when trying to import to prevent this from happening again? Here's the first part of the crash report:

Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store -
Lightroom 6 crashes when attempting to import from camera.
Never had a problem importing from same camera using LR 5.7. LR 6 crashes when attempting to import from camera.
Actually I have found out that it's not related to importing, but to face recognition being turned on (which I had just done shortly before I started the import).
See here for more details: Re: Lightroom 6.0.1 standalone always crashes less than a minute after start -
FCPX freezes when attempting to import media
Hello,
I'm having trouble when attempting to import media to FCPX in that it won't even open up the browswer window to select files - it just hangs and I have to force quit. I have the latest version of FCPX and have used this previously without issue. I have tried deleting the programme and downloading a new version and re installing it. I am running a 2010 imac 2.93 i7 with 12 gig of ram. Any ideas as to what I can try to get around this?
Many thanks,
BenHi Russ,
Yes all the latest versions.
Funily enough I had just deleted pref files after viewing another thread - no joy.
All media files are unavailable because it won't let me explore to find any.
I jave just dragged in a file to the timeline and that has imported. I am trying to edit C100 AVCHD files so work around so far is to import to imovie and then export as MP4s and drag into FCPX - not ideal at all but at least I can do some work.
Many thanks,
Ben -
Mac OSX Lion: Why does PS CS6 BETA stop responding after attempting to import pdf?
Mac OSX Lion: Why does PS CS6 BETA stop responding after attempting to import single pdf or multiple pdfs? frequently happens(2/3 times)
Can you provide any more information about the files that are causing the problems? Are these particularly large files? Many pages or images? Have you opened these files in Photoshop CS5, or other versions of Photoshop?
What do you see when you try to import these PDFs? Do you get the PDF Import dialog, allowing you to select pages or images from the PDF? Is so, is it hanging when you click OK or at another time?
Any more details about the problem or other info (as well as sample files) you can provide, the easier it will be for us to help identify the cause of your problems.

FCPX has suddenly started crashing when trying to import media
I updated FCPX to 10.0.8 a couple of weeks ago and everything has been fine until today (I'm fully updated with Mountain Lion as well) . Now every time I try to import media, FCPX crashes. This occurs right after I hit the "Import Selected" button -- and occurs regardless of type of media, where I'm importing it from, or how many clips. I get a very long error message -- I've attached just the first part of it (through Thread 0) below. The entire error message runs through Thread 37.
The only thing I did right before this happoened was to delete some old unused applications that were not even on the system HD (they were on a different internal HD - drive A). The applications included very old versions of Final Cut and iMovie that had not been opened in a couple of years. After I did this, FCPX suddenly started to recognize another internal HD (drive C) as a camera for the first time, and tried to import a bunch of old home movies, which it has never done before. And ever since then it started crashing when trying to import new media -- even after I "ejected" drive C.
Any ideas? I'm at a total loss and in the middle of a big project for a client, and could really use some help. Thanks!

I'th Mountain Lion as well. *and FCPX 10.0.7Update: the problem is definitely with the internal HD "drive C". Before restarting FCPX after the last crash I unmounted the C drive -- then restarted FCPX and was able to import media just fine. I thought I had tried this already, but I guess not.
So, what did I change with my C drive when I deleted the old apps off my A drive? There is both an iMovie events and projects folder on the C drive -- but FCPX has never tried to import them until after I deleted the old iMovie app (I still have the most recent version of iMovie on my system drive -- but have never used it to open these old folders). I read on another thread on this forum that if I "hid" these folders, FCPX would not try to recognize them, so I moved them to within another folder on the same drive -- but FCPX is still trying to recognize and show them when the Import Media window is launched -- and still shows the C drive as a camera.
So, what can I do to stop this from happening?
Thanks! -

Firefox crashes when attempting to import explorer favorites, passwords, etc.
I just installed Firefox and made it my default browser. When I attempt to import Explorer settings for favorites, etc., it stops working. I've now tried this four times with the same results, even if I start a new session. What's up?
See both [[firefox crashes]] and [[firefox hangs]] please provide Crash IDs if you are getting crashes.
Note also that firefox 10 upgrades were suspended, and Firefox 10.0.1 is now coming out. One of the problems that will fix is hangs relating to java use; that may turn out to be the problem you have.
I suggest you keep your eyes on [[latest firefox issues]] which hopefully will be updated shortly.
(I note you are using 10.0 and 11.0b according to the system info aside you may be interested in some of the more techie explanations in [/forums/contributors/708145 another] [/forums/contributors/708122 section] ) -
Compressor crashes after attempting to apply settings to large batch
I am trying to batch transcode hundreds of MP4 video files at once using Compressor 3. After importing the media files, I attempt to apply a single setting to all files and Compressor crashes. Not only does it crash, but I lose all of my presets with seemingly no way of recovering them.
I had the same thing a few weeks ago. Super annoying. After a frustrated search I found this:
User(you)/Library/Application Support/Compressor/History
Quit Compressor -> Delete the contents of that History Folder -> Empty the trash. Seems that Compressor refuses to do a job twice! If there is just o n e film you already compressed in that History folder, Compressor just won't do the entire batch! Worse - you have to start clicking all over again. UGH... -
FCPX 10.0.4 crashes when trying to import media
I updated to FCPX 10.0.4 the other day and just tried to check out some 1080p24 footage I shot with my Panasonic GH2 this morning. Some clips seem to work fine, but a couple are causing problems. I use transfer from camera, select a clip or part of it, and select transcode to proxy. It seems to copy it to the Original Media folder, but crashes. Nothing ends up in the Transcoded Media folder. I reopen FCP and it shows the clip as missing, because I have selected to use proxy media. If I switch to Original, or try to intiate a transcode manually it crashes. I can remove the clip manually form the Original Media folder to get going again, but same thing happens on that clip. I just tried again without transcoding and that doesn't seem to work either. It just doesn't like something about importing these clips. They play back fine when I view them in the Original Media folder, so they don't appear to be corrupt. Any ideas?
Unforunately, I don't have another system available I can check these clips with, is there a way to roll back to 10.0.3 to try it?I still have the trial 10.0.3 download, but unforunately can't run it because it's expired.
There's another guy here that seems to be having similar issues importing AVCHD (same as my GH2).
https://discussions.apple.com/message/18147371#18147371
I removed the problem media and was able to continue for awhile without it on my macbook air while I was away. Now that I'm back home on my 2009 era mac mini I have since imported more footage and encoutering the same thing on this system (also, unfortunately updated to 10.0.4). It was at a point where it'd crash everytime it opened. After a few times it wouldn't crash on opening, but I found that if I scrolled up through the clips in the event viewer, as soon as one particular one started to appear it would crash. The problem clips seem to probably be higher bit rate because they have more motion like steadicam or slider in front of moving trees.
There's stuff related to AVCHD in my crash reports. I looked inside the app package and saw this file. I compared it to the files inside the package from the trial and it's definately been updated. I haven't experimented yet, but I thought about trying to copy the old AVCHD plugin to the new version and see if it can handle my footage better, but I don't know what else breaks if it's expecting access to new features or something.

ITunes crashes on attempt to play media with foreign characters
Recently, over the last few versions I have been unable to play any of my media that includes foreign characters, be it Asian characters or accented Roman characters. The fact of the matter is that upon attempting to play a song / audiobook / movie with a foreign character iTunes crashes.
I am using iTunes 10.6.1.7 on Windows 7 64-bit in English (UK) with non-unicode set to Japanese.
Windows crash report:

The media with foreign characters syncs with my iPhone okay, and will play without issue on it; just iTunes is unable to play said media on my computer, which is highly frustrating.
I would be appreciative if someone has found and would share any work-around to this problem. Thanks.I still have no thorough concept on how I have solved this but I suppose if anyone else has encountered this issue I can share how I worked around it:
I changed my windows system non-unicode locale back to its default (English UK).
I then installed Microsoft AppLocale to handle the programs that would be affected.
For experimental reasons I then set my iTunes executable to have Japanese locale through the AppLocale program.
It now operates fine and will play files with foreign characters.
Try it if you experience the problem's I've been having. -
Premiere crashes after clicking on imported movie file
After clicking on a just imported video file (in this case .MOV from a Nikon 7100) the application crashes and displays "Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014.1 has stopped working" and the problem details are below. I have tried resetting the preferences but not sure what else to try. Premiere starts up fine and I can import images fine but any video file ( I have tried .MOV, .MP4, .AVI, .WMV) that gets imported crashes the software as soon as I try to do anything with it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

That means to ME that you have a driver problem with your UN-named graphics adapter (of course, I could be wrong in that)
•What is your exact brand/model graphics adapter (ATI or nVidia or ???)
•What is your exact graphics adapter driver version?
•Have you gone to the vendor web site to check for a newer driver?
•For Windows, do NOT rely on Windows Update to have current driver information
•-you need to go direct to the vendor web site and check updates for yourself
•ATI Driver Autodetect http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/auto-detect-tool

Do you have dual graphics adapters?
Go to the Windows Control Panel and select Hardware and Sound and then select Device Manager... In Device manager you click the + sign to the left of Display Adapters... and see if 2 are listed

IPhoto 11 Crash After iPhone Photos Import Corrupted Library, Cause?
Mountain Lion on MacBook Pro, iPhoto 11 v9.3.2, launched fine. Connected iPhone. Transferred 17 photos fine. Chose Delete Photos from iPhone. It crashed.
Relaunched to read that there were inconstencies in the library.... took several long stressful minutes as it "repaired" the database. No idea why it happened, or what long term impact will be. Faces spinning wheel is still going on, so no idea if that means having to painfully re-add/remove/change names from faces on thousands of pics.. Meantime, Console shows this, if it helps locate the problem or others have it too.... Thanks.

Windows 7 crash after attempt to download Reader XI; cannot uninstall or reinstall Reader now
Hi
I am new on this forum.
I attempted to download Reader XI but my laptop (Windows 7) crashed at next reboot (blue screen before logon). Got Windows working again but now cannot uninstall Reader ("path cannot be found"). Attempted to install Reader X again but system said it was already installed.
Screen shots with error messages during uninstall attempt are below.
Any suggestions please?Try this: Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs

IPad crashed after attempting to install iOS 5.1
I attempted to update my iPad to iOS 5.1. When I did, I got a blue screen. I can not start my iPad, and it appears to have crashed. It won't even start up enough to restore. Any ideas?
I tried that. The iPad doesn't boot up enough for iTunes to recognize the iPad. I get an apple for a few seconds, and then the blue screen (sometimes green). The only way I can get the iPad to start/shutdown is to hard boot it too. Sometimes I get a line through the screen before it goes blue. The iPad was working great until I attempted the update.
