Create a folder or file with the DATE as name?
I am finalizing a backup routine that involves a couple of Time Machine backups, a couple of Clones (backs up once a week or once a month) and a couple of "manual" backups that I store off-site.
Right now I have a txt file that I keep in my Home Folder with a underscore so that it shows up at the top of my Home Folder where I manually change the date so I can check that I have a current backup and/or I can know how current the backup is ("_20111126.txt" for today). Right now, between the Time Machine, the Clones and the "regular" backups I am not sure how to do this really easy in any other way.
Today I realized that I would find it uber helpful to have a file that did this in an automated manner every day since I got into Time Machine to check this backup and the file is the same name for weeks at a time since I rarely change it.
Is there a way to do this in an automated manner or in a way that is as visually immediate as this method?

Not to me. What if the renaming script works, but the backup fails? What if the backup works, but the renaming script fails?
You should use a proper backup application. Such an application should keep a log and should provide proper notification of the results of the backup
are you saying that there is some method to do this with software called "Chron" or with iCal?
I'm saying that, if you want to run a script daily or on some specified date, the way to do it is with cron (without the h, sorry for the typo) or iCal.
In fact, Apple says that one should use launchd instead of cron, but cron is still supported. Cron jobs are set with crontab, and there are plenty of examples and instructions on how to use it, as well as some GUIs for it.
As to iCal, it's simply a matter of choosing to Run Script as an alarm for an event. (It's in the iCal help.)

We would like to basically do a 'mail merge' of our list of customers with an interactive PDF file (including videos, menus, etc - not just form fill out and web links) to create a single PDF file that contains multiple mail pieces ... one for each customer ... with each mail piece being customized for that customer. The issues i'm facing are:
When it is reading a row from MS-Excel it is writing to the .pdf file from last cell to first cell.( 2 cell in 1 place, 1 cell in 2 place like if the row has two cells with data as : Name of the Intern: Kesavulu Reddy then it is writing to the .pdf file as Kesavulu Reddy Name of Intern)
and the second issue is:
It is not recognizing the date format..it is recognizing the date in first row only......
Plz Tell me wht is the solution for this...

I like to backup the same file every day of the week. And add the date in the copied filename (for example "meta09-O4-04.rtf") to automate and schedule I can use cronnix. But adding the date in the filename doesn't work for me.
As you can see in the script the backup file must be copied in a directory (for example "vis")that is in the same directory as the main file.
Can some one help me on this?

That said, it shouldn't be hard to do. There are several ways of getting the date in the format you want, either via AppleScript or a simple shell command:

Just replace your duplicate command with the following:

After I put all files in a directory and with the Acrobat Writer Version 4 selected this directory and the program Acrobat automaticly put the same password in all the files. After as well, I could select files with the same password and changed the password automaticly of this files.
Now with the Acrobat Standard 9, I don't know make this taskes. My cuestion is "Can I make this things with acrobat Standard 9 or I need other version?"

Your option is with Edit > Preferences > Batch Processing Security Method "Password Security" and the option of the other members is with Advance > Batch Process.
I have tried to change some pdf files that had password with Adobe Pro, so I tried to remove the security password from the pdf files, with Advance > Batch Process.
I created a new secuence with security through the Option "Whithout Password" but when I executed the secuence, the program showed me a window with this message "OPERATION NO AVAILABLE".
¿Can you help me? I don't kown how I can remove the password of this pdfs, yet.

Generally I would not use Facebook for sharing any photos, it compresses the photos substantially, and when you have shadows and dark colours you get visible "bands" where there should be subtle gradients, ie at sunsets and sunrises.
It sounds like you are using two methods to upload to Facebook:
1. Sharing from within Aperture, which basically syncs Facebook with your Aperture album, so any changes made at either end gets synced, hence the deletions from Albums, although the original file should still be in your library, just removed rom the album. It is like a playlist in iTunes.
2. Exporting pics and uploading to Facebook from the browser.
I am not sure how method 1 gets compressed, but I know that uploading hi-res jpegs to Facebook using method 2 results in poor quality images.
I wouldn't even bother comparing option 1 or 2, and they will both be poor images once you view them on Facebook, as opposed to viewing uploaded images on proper image sharing / hosting sites.
Your problem is not with Aperture, it is using Facebook for showing your work.
If you export pics form Aperture at high res jpegs or TIFFs your images will be fine.
If you insist to use Facebook as your way to share your work, then your workflow should be this:
1. Right click images you want to share.
2. Select Export version.
3. Export as 100% size and ensure the export settings are set at 100% quality.
4. Upload this pic into Facebook.
This will get you the best image size and resolution on Facebook.
See how you go. -
Shell Script- To FTP the latest file with the date stamp
I have a Solaris 10 based system, where it generate some application files (multiple) in XML format and the file name comprises of the current date.
File Format is as follows;
CX-FIL-20070624000000-2-8452536d-000133.xml
Where 20070624 repesents the curent date of the file
I want to FTP these files to another server (Solaris 10 based Sun Machine) by comparing the file name with the current date.
Please let me know how I can do this by using a shell script.Assuming you want to ftp the files with today's datestamp, you could match the files you want like so:
CX-FIL-`/bin/date +"%Y%m%d"`*
Use that in your script to generate the file list to be transferred...

Is there a way to import a indd CS4 file with its Data Fields names and properties into CC?
I have to convert numerous files from CS4 to CC. The CS4 files are using external data from a CSV file. When I open the file in CS4 I can enable the preview and see the data from the CSV file. But when I save the file as indd or idml and try to open it in InDesignCC then I can't see the data as preview. I can see the Data fields (text).I think it's because it doesn't recognize the data fields from the CS4 file. If I delete a data field and remap it I will be able to see the preview for the field I just mapped. the other fields remain the unchanged, like they were just text.
Any help with this topic will be very appreciated. I have about 70 data fields per document and about 100 documents to go through.
Update: The symbol for a data field, ex: «fullname_2» change size when I delete and remap it. Explanation: When I open the CS4 file in IndesignCC I can't view a preview of the Data field(s) (almost positive because it's plain text). The data fields show like this «fullname_2». But when I delete that and drag a field from the data field list it shows like this <<fullname_2>>. So definitely, CC is not reading the data fields from InDesign CS4.
P.S.: The fields above («fullname_2» and <<fullname_2>> are copy and paste from Indesign CC.I'm attaching this image so this forum can notice the difference on the Data fields from CS4 and the ones added on CC

I'm not really a computer guy. I just got a Kodak"easy share" camera. When I import the photos they go to the section with my name in a folder. How do I get them from there to iphoto, or better yet, how can i import them directly to iphoto?? As stated, I'm not knowledgable,have an imac and need real rudimentary direction.
in the iPhoto preferences be sure the action when camera is connected is open iPhoto
What program are you using to import the photos?
If they are in a folder you can drag that folder onto the iPhoto icon in the dock to import - our launch iPhoto and under the file menu import from that folder

How do I create an after effects file with an interchangeable image
Hey,
hope someone can help me, I'm using after effects to create a mp4 file, it contains a photo which has a animation super imposed ontop of it.
When the projects finished the base photo that the animation is created around could change up three times a day.
What I'm trying to work out is a way for a non technical user to just be able to upload the new photo to somewhere and for the animation to be created and returned somehow to him so that the animator doesn't have to re open and edit the affect effect project each time a new photo comes in.
Is there a way to do this built into after effects does any one know?

Importing CD to Artist folder\Album folder\file with track number and name:
I have a problem then importing my cd’s to my harddisk using iTunes.
On my previous pc I got what I want, Artist folder, Album folder and file with track number and name:
e.g.
D:\My Music\B.B. King\Blues On The Bayou\01 Blues Boys Tune.mp3
D:\My Music\B.B. King\Blues On The Bayou\02 Bad Case Of Love.mp3

But now I get:

PeterIt will depend on the album. Gracenote considers anthologies, a collection of tracks by the same artist taken from different albums, as a compilation. In iTunes the compliation setting should really only be applied to a collection of tracks by different artists.

- Menu -> Layer - > New —> Layer… and press -ok- , (leave the name that is shown)
- Once again Menu -> Layer - > New —> Layer… and press -ok- , (leave the name that is shown)
- Menu -> Layer - > Arrange (order) -> Behind
- Menu -> Layer - > Merge Down
- Menu -> Layer - > Merge Visible
- Menu -> Layer - > New —> Layer… and press -ok- , (leave the name that is shown)
- Menu -> Layer - Hide Layer
- Menu - > Delete - > Delete hidden layers (press -Yes- )
- Menu -> Layer - > New —> Layer… Enter this: ' Move this to the trash ' and press ok
- Menu -> File - > Scripts -> Export Layers To Files... (In the window that opens select the option you want, but take away the name prefix) and press - Run -
- Select the History panel and click Delete (on menu opened) pressing -Yes- every time when open the dialog box (8 times Repeat this step until you get into the story to the starting condition. Not use Restore -F12-).
- Stop recording.
At this point, by executing this action, I have reached the goal partly because the files created in this way remain, unfortunately, the numerical prefixes to avoid possibly overwriting of files (I think without notice) in the place where they are created.
To achieve the goal we need a new step and thinking about this as follows:
WARNING - The operation described below should be made on a copy of the file, so :
- Duplicate the file
- Move the original folder to another
- Work on the duplicate file.
WARNING - This modification is performed at your own risk and the undersigned assumes no responsibility on what is done mostly by inexperienced hands.
WARNING - This change will overwrite any files with the same name as the selected layer plus the file extension of course.
However, the change is trivial and within reach of anyone.
Proceed as follows:
- Close Photoshop
- Open (in the specified path from the image ) file " Export Layers to Files.jsx " (Export Layers To Files.jsx 1.0.0.16) with a pure text editor.
- Search for the string (should be in line 1029 )
var = fileNameBody fileNamePrefix ;
fileNameBody = + "_" + zeroSuppress (i, 4 ) ;
fileNameBody + = "_ " + layerName ;
- Replace it with :
var = fileNameBody fileNamePrefix ;
fileNameBody + = layerName ;
- Search for the string (should be in line 1047-46 )

fileNameBody + = "_ " + zeroSuppress (i, 4) + "s" ;
- Replace it with :
var = fileNameBody fileNamePrefix ;
fileNameBody + = "";
- Save and exit.
- Restart Photoshop
- Try the recorded Action, making sure that the layer name is not identical to the name of an existing file otherwise it will be overwritten.

Simple to avoid errors of execution of the actions in the case of transactions with missing levels and other.

iPhone Local Storage "My iPhone" - How do you create this folder for use by the Notes app on a iPhone or iPad? If I want to keep some notes only on my device and not in a cloud environment associated with an e-mail account. I've seen reference to the "My iPhone" local storage put no mention on how you create this folder or access this folder within the Notes app. I realize storing information in a local storage like this provides no syncing between other iDevices but that is exactly what I'm looking for. I'm running iOS7.0.4 on a iPhone 5S, and a iPad Air. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If you go to Settings > Notes > Default Account you will see "On My iPhone" as the default account and the only choice if you have not enabled syncing Notes in Settings >iCloud or Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. If you have enabled syncing you can still select "On My iPhone" as the default account. When you are in the Notes app you won't see any accounts listed if you have not enabled syncing because they are all in the On My iPhone account and that is the only place possible. It is not a folder that you create.
