Create a install-server on linux

Hi,
I want to install solaris 9 on my ultra1 via
tftp. There is a script setup_install_server delivered
with solaris 9 but the readme talks about a solaris
system to act as install server. I dont have any other
solaris system, so is it possible to use linux
as an install server for solaris 9 net-install (and
how )?
Thanks in advance !
Stefan

HI,
The script which Ur talking about is used for unattended remote installation provided both the machines are in the same subnet JUMP start installation thats what it is called in solaris.
Setup_install_server script copies the content of the installtion CD to a machine which would act as a install server for a client which is being initiated for unattended installation, like wise UR suppose to setup an configuration server with configuration information, system identification sysidcfg file
I have never come across jump start installation being done between solaris and linux it's usually between two solaris machine with SPARC paltform.
My advice is to go for normal installation webstart .

  • Aborted al_engine error while creating BODI Job Server in Linux

    Hi,
I have installed BODI in linux (in the directory /opt/app/DataIntegrator).
While configuring job server I got the following error.
Updating the repository <bodi@tdw__Oracle>. Please wait...
sh: line 1: 15850 Aborted al_engine -Ubodi -Pbodi -Stdw -NORACLE

    SNMP is disabled.
The log file tmp/al_machine.out.15678 is of OKB and no info inside it.
I could able to solve this issue by giving chmod 777 -Rf /opt permissions. Is BODI needs 777 permissions for Job server to be created?
    Oracle is installed in /opt/app/oracle.
Can you help on this issue?
    Thanks & Regards

Please test the Oracle repository connectivity from the al_engine directory so that you can rule out any connectivity issues before checking for the chmod settings.
Let me know what you find.

  • Solaris 10 box -  install server PROBLEMS

    Hi,
i have an E450 setup with solaris 10, i follwed the docs to create an install server for solaris 9.
problem is : when booting client it gets the RARP reply and then sits and does nothing ??
The 2 machines are on their own separate network.
    Server ip = 192.168.1.101 SN 255.255.255.0
    client ip = 192.168.1.102 SN 255.255.255.0
i ran the #./add_install_client -e 8:0:20:xx:xx:xx ( client is in /etc/hosts) which reports no errors
    /etc/bootparams shows = server1 root=Xerxes:/export0/sol_9/Solaris_9/Tools/Boot install=Xerxes:/export0/sol_9 boottype=:in rootopt=:rsize=32768
    /etc/dfs/dfstab shows = share -F nfs -o ro,anon=0 /export0/sol_9
is this correct ?? and why is the client not even getting to the spinning dial ?? let alone the installation, do i have to have a sysidcfg file ????

Excellent. So we can see that the RARP has completed (sucessfully it appears), but the TFTP step has not. Perhaps the TFTP server isn't running properly.
Now I see what's going on. You're running Solaris 10 on the machine, but you're trying to jumpstart Solaris 9. That's fine, but those older scripts don't understand how to start Solaris 10 services.
It's very likely that the 'add_install_client' script populated /etc/inetd.conf and HUP'ed inetd to start the TFTP server. That's not sufficient.
You probably have some lines in /var/adm/messages saying that you have to run 'inetconv'. Run that and you should get a tftp service. (Check by running 'svcs -a | grep tftp'). With that in place, the boot should proceed.
(In answer to your other question, yes this is a combination boot and jumpstart server. Thats what you get when you run 'setup_install_server' and you don't use the '-b' flag to make it only a boot server).

    The normal sequence is:
    RARP
    TFTP
    rpc.bootparams
    NFS

  • SunONE Web Server 6.1 on linux: can't create a new server

    Hi all
When we try to create a new server from the Admin server ("Add Server" button), and after fill the form and click OK, we get the following error in the "errors" log file of the admin server:
[23/Oct/2003:11:25:35] failure (14588): for host 10.95.4.28 trying to POST /https-admserv/bin/install, cgi_scan_headers reports: HTTP4044: the CGI program /opt/SUNWwbsvr/bin/https/admin/bin/install did not produce a valid header (program terminated without a valid CGI header. Check for core dump or other abnormal termination)
As I told in the subject, web server is installed on a linux (red hat) box
Is it a bug in the WebServer 6.1? for linux or for solaris too?
    Regards

Hmmmm, well stick with the 7.2 version and let's see if we can figure this out.
What version of perl is on the box?

  • Linux install server and solaris 10

    Hi,
I am trying to learn Solaris as a student. I bought a SPARC (Netra T105 UltrasparcII) server on ebay which requires a network install as there is no cd-rom, or keyboard.
I only have a linux box (like I said, I'm a stingy student) to use as an install server, there is a few tutorials out there to try and do this, but none for Solaris 10. I have been hacking away at this for days, but cannot get it to install. I have the sparc server using RARP and then getting the /etc/bootparams file and downloading the boot files, but it does not get to locating the jumpstart files or the install files (I dont know if I can install from the terminal using the keyboard (without jumpstart) - I have not got that far yet).
I always get this, like it cannot find the install directory, I was wireshark on the linux boot server and see loads of NFS traffic after the TFTP download, but cannot seem to see what part it actually at. I have a detailed log at the bottom from putty. Any help greatly appreciated.Cheers

/sbin/install-discovery: information: not foundHmm. That looks like the image file is corrupt. Can you pull the image from media again? Can you see if there's a /sbin/install-discovery file in the image (usually under Tools/Boot/root). I recall there used to be a problem with that file.
    Linux box setup:
    /etc/bootparams
solaris root=192.168.2.10:/home/sunos/Solaris_10/Tools/Boot rootopts=rsize=32768 boottype=:in install=192.168.2.10:/home/sunos_install/Solaris_10/Product sysid_config=192.168.2.10:/home/sunos_install/jumpstart/sysidcfg install_config=192.168.2.10:/home/sunos_install/jumpstart/jumpstart.confIf you just want an interactive install (prompt for configuration/settings), you don't need sysid_config or install_config. Those are for automated installations.

    Export list for localhost:
    /home/sunos *
    /home/sunos_install *That looks pretty good.
You do have the option of running VMware on linux, and putting a Solaris 10 image on it, then using that VM as your boot server. But the problem you're displaying doesn't appear to be related to the linux server.

  • How to install PEAR on Linux server

    Hi
I have PHP installed on one linux server and developers are using it already. I have been given the task to get the oci8 (oracle connectivity) done on this same server. I can not do the reinstall of whole PHP again. During the install of OCI extention I got many errors for missing PEAR files.
So I went through the PEAR document and found "php go-pear.php" command to install the PEAR package. This command fails with below error.
download of http://pear.php.net/get/PEAR?uncompress=yes failed: Failed to parse address "" (0)
The problem is this Linux box does not have direct internet connectivity so I had to download all the required packages as per go-pear.php on my local machine and I am FTPing them to this linux box. I have kept the "PEAR-1.8.1.tar" file in the same directory where go-pear.php file exists but still the above command tries to download it from internet.
Could you please tell me how can I overcome this problem. Please let me know if there are any RPM's that I can use to install PEAR rather that "php go-pear.php" command.
    Thanks

    Hi CJ.
It has been more than 4 weeks that I am strugling to get PHP-Oracle work on my system. You are the only hope right now. I have gone through so many articles and white pages that I am totally confused and starting to hate PHP or actually Suse Linux. :-)

    Question.
    1) Do i have to upgrade the PHP version to the latest to get OCI8 configured?
    2) If the answer to the above question is Yes than could you point me to any reference doc?
    3) If the upgrade is not needed, how can I configure PHP to use OCI8 to connect to database?
    Thanks in advance

  • How to install Apache Server on Linux 10G for HTML DB 1.6

    Hello,
i have Oracle 10g installed under Suse Linux. Apache needed to be installed too in the oracle home but isn't.
it's required for HTML 1.6 DB install.
i did not found it with the normal installation image, how to install Apache for Oracle? for 10G?
    Regards
    Carl

The Apache is on the Companion CD
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/htdocs/linuxsoft.html
Also HTMLDB 1.5, so Install only the Application Server and add the HTMLDB 1.6 from separate Download

  • Installing Reports Server on Linux

I've downloaded the tarball for Reports 6i for Linux, but I can find absolutely nothing documentation-wise on how to install the bugger. Little help?

Awesome, thats what I thought, so in that case, if I want to install Essbase server on Linux, I have to download the essbase files for linux and select only the essbase server while installing, and if I want to install essbase components on windows, I have to download the same set of files but for Windows OS and select to install only the essbase components that I need. Is that right?
    Thanks,
    Ted.

  • Installing Essbase Server on Linux, Other essbase components on windows.

    Hello all,
We are planning to upgrade from 11.1.1.4 to 11.1.2.2. We have just the essbase server installed on linux and other essbase components like Essbase Administration Services, essbase integration services, provider services installed on Windows. My question is how do I go about gathering files to install just the Essbase Server on Linux and other Components on Windows. I have gone through the Media Pack doc for Windows 2008 64(on which we plan to install the other essbase components). In that if I click on the files needed for essbase(listed as essbase plus) it gives me all the files needed to install essbase components.Which means(correct me if am wrong) on a server where am planning to install just essbase components like Provider services, Essbase Admin Services and provider services it gives me the files needed for Essbase server as well, which I donot need. So how do I go about accomplishing this. Or are there any other ways to achieve what am trying to do.
    Thanks,
    Ted.

    Thanks,
    Ted.

  • Installing Oracle App Server on Linux

    Hi,
Has anyone installed the App Server on Linux? Can they tell me if it was difficult, complicated, etc. bearing in mind that I am not a DBA, and have basically no experiance with this sort of stuff at all. So basically what I am asking is can you stick in the CDs and follow the install guide and get it done in half a day or less.
    Cheers.

I would say that a half a day is grossly underestimating it, by my experience and what you indicate your level of expertise is. I ended up installing, getting to a fail point, uninstalling and re-doing. Some errors are "recoverable", but some do not seem to be (from my experience). I'd make a few recommendations. I have it installed on Mandrake 8.x (latest release, I think), which seems to be "doable" but I'd recommend going with a certified platform if you don't know what you are doing. Also, Mandrake had some quirks like their security management software which resets file permissions "behind the scenes". This was my first experience with Mandrake so it took me a while to figure out which files to edit/fix so that Enterprise manager would get the right data.
    Read the readme!
Read the installation docs all the way through!
Read the release notes all the way through!
I had a NUMBER of problems, some specific to my platform (which is not certified by Oracle, so it's not their fault) and some which were covered in the readme. It took me a while to get everything right and I ended up struggling most with the Infrastructure install. Most likely that was due to my hardware & OS (Mandrake), but there are some issues in the release notes that are important. The reason I would restart many times is that I wanted the installation to go smoothly from start to finish so that I could better understand the requirements, etc. Examples of issues (which includes things from the readme/release notes and otn):
    - either install PDKSH or link /bin/bash to /bin/ksh. /bin/ksh is listed in one of the scripts as the shell during installation configuration. This should be in the installation guide as a pre-requisite.
    - install the sysstat package so the enterprise manager will show graphs, etc. This should be in the installation guide as a pre-requisite.
    - link (symbolic) your perl binary to /usr/local/bin/perl
    - I received numerous link errors due to two problems:
    - genclntsh didn't have a good link command for my platform. There seems to be two work-arounds posted around here, but I chose to add -lgcc and -L/path/to/gcclib on the ld line. E-mail me if you want more details ([email protected]). My path was something like: /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i586-mandrake-linux-gnu/2.96 where I found the libgcc.a
    - Reports server and Forms server failed because the link line was linking to libXm.2.1.so instead of libXm.2.0.1.so (or libXm.2.so, etc). The development team evidently used a later version of Motif than I had, so I fixed it in the forms and reports makefiles, respectively.
I can't remember, offhand, what else I had to do, but this covers it. Obviously, a lot of this depends upon the type of install you choose. I wanted the reports server, which requires the infrastructure, etc.
    Good luck.
    Jeff
