Create a link to a specific page, on the disc

Ok. I am creating a PDF that will need buttons to link to specific pages in other PDFs.
I know how to do this if the PDFs are online but the boss needs a 'dvd delivered' SOOOooooo...
-Root
Main PDF (with button)
-subfolder
Target PDF (page 3)
Target PDF (page 12)
etc....
Would it be the on release -> open file -> ??
I tried doing open file: and added #page=2 to the end of the line. Not successful.

Possible solution?
During a chat with a friend; we talked about it was not dependent on the browser (trying to figure if IE or FF was the problem) and I said, "It's not the browser causing the issue" well.. that led me to think "use the flippin browser then!"
Process/Work Around;
On the final DVD I will make a simple HTML web page that is nothing more than a billeted list of hyper links to all the PDFs that will be referenced save it as a web page in a sub-folder and presto... my 'website' is on the disc. Now instead of the open file failure, I'll use the goto HTML..blah blah...=page#2 code that works!

• Linking to a specific page within the same PDF

Hello There!
I have one PDF document that is organized like this:
Page 1-10 Main Information
Page 11-12 Appendix 1
Page 13-15 Appendix 2
I need direct links to Appendix 1 and Appendix 2 from a HTML page. For example, when the user clicks (within my HTML page) on Appendix 1, the PDF opens and automatically goes to Page 11.
I know in HTML I would use an anchor tag but that does not seem to be an option here.
Any advice on this?
Thank you for your help!

• Is it possible to link to a specific page in an embedded Tumblr blog

Hello. I have an embedded Tumblr blog on a customers Muse site. Is it possible for them to link to a specific page in the Tumblr Iframe, and have it wrapped in there website? I appreceiate all of the help.

Hey, one thing I tried, although it is pretty kludgy...
Duplicated the blog page in Muse
Copied the tumblr URL specific to the posts I wanted to link to
Made the iframe URLs in each of the new pages directed to the tumblr URL specific to that blog post.
Just an idea since I couldn't figure out how to make the iframe direct to tumblr anchor or something similar.

You can download the trial version (http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-downloads.html) to convert the PDF back to WORD if you do not have the original. The conversion may not be perfect, but it is typically better than starting from scratch. You may be lucky and get a good result. You might check the settings (in the save screen) to try retain format versus retain text flow. The format version can be a pain to edit since it creates a bunch of text boxes. The flow version may require you to reformat in WORD, but you likely would want to do that anyway.

• Link to a specific page in a PDF - from word

Hey guys
Possibly a stupid question, however Im not too familiar with acrobat and creating pdfs etc, I have searched and tried whatever answers i've found though.
What Im needing to do (well, its another user, but they've asked me to fix it for them) is create a link in a word document that will open a pdf at a particular page. This word document will then be exported to PDF and the linking needs to still work. The files will be on the local filesystem (not a web server) and need to open in acrobat reader, not an IE window.
I can get it to work fine if you manually edit the link in Acrobat professional and tell it to go to a page in another PDF, but when I try adding the link in word it just opens the PDF at page 1.
What I've tried doing:
Create a hyperlink in word to c:\test.pdf#page=50
Create a hyperlink in word to c:\test.pdf#chapter6 (with chapter6 being a destination in the PDF document)
as above but with file:///c:/test.pdf#page50 and file:///c:/test.pdf#chapter6
All of these open the PDF but at page 1, not page 50. When i view the link properties in acrobat it shows the action as being "Open a file: c:\test.pdf" but nothing about opening to a specific page.
The user does not want to edit the resulting pdf in acrobat once it has been created, due to needing to frequently update the word document and re-export to pdf.
Systems are running WinXP, Office 03, and have tried with Acrobat 6 and 8 (would prefer it to work with version 6, as 8 is just the trial and would prefer not to have to upgrade to get this to work).
Any help would be much appreciated!

I have a similar problem I would like to solve. I am also running Word 2003, Windows XP and Acrobat Professional 7.0.
I can create a hyperlink in a word document to open a separate PDF file.
I can then use PDF Maker to convert the word document to PDF.
No problem.
When I click on the new link in the PDF document it opens the separate file in the same window and the original PDF file is closed.
I do not want the original file to close.
When I set up a new link from within Acrobat then I get the option to "Open in new window". This link works the way that I want.
As there are multiple hyperlinks in the word document, I will need to recreate new links everytime I modify the Word document. This is very time consuming
Question - how do I get the automatically created link to open in a new window?
Thanks in advance

• Create a link to a specific spot in PDF document

Is it possible to create a link from a Table of Contents item to a specific heading on a page within the same document. So far from what I've read and what I've tried I can only link to a specific page but not a specific section on that page. Is that possible? If so how to I do that? It's basically the same idea as HTML anchor links within the same HTML page. So if you have a links up top you can create named anchors for the destination spot later on down the page. I tried using the destinations in Acrobat also but it seems to also only point to the page, not the specific area on a page.
If anyone knows if that's possible, could you either show me how to do it or point me to a tutorial online that shows how to do that. I've searched and searched but just cannot seem to find anything. Maybe I'm not using the right keywords to search.

You can either link to an existing named destination or a view that you establish when you create the link. A named destination is a combination of a page and the view settings (e.g., fit width, fit visible, 200% zoom and scrolled 1/4 way down the page, etc.)
When you add a new named destination, go to the page you want and set up the display of the page to what you want. Give the named destination a meaningful/descriptive name.
When you create the link that you want to target a named destination, select an action of "Go to a page view" and set it to the current view. You then have to go and edit the action and select "Use Named Destination" and select from the list of named destinations in the document.
You do not need to set up named destinations to link to a specific area of a page, but they are helpful when linking from other documents or systems, particularly if the document that's linked to changes with any frequency.
To set up the same type of link without using named destinations, just add a new link and when you're presented with the "Create Link" dialog, select "Go to a page view" and navigate to the corresponding page, set the view you want, and click the "Set Link" button.

• Oracle apps 11i - customization in Create Timecard link in Standard OTL page

Hi everyone,
I have got a requirement to add some functionalities in oracle 11i - Create Timecard link in standard OTL page .Mentioned below is the Requirement.
When the engineer clicks the 'Save' button in the create timecard link in OTL page, it should save the time card and check the status of the timecard.If the specific timecard being saved is either "approved" or
"submitted", a pop-up notification should warn the Engineer.
Warning:
"Warning – By clicking yes, all previously submitted versions of this timecard will be retracted. The Timecard will need to be resubmitted and reapproved. Are you sure you wish to continue? Yes, No"
If engineer clicks YES, then an email notification should send to engineer and Manager ,notifying them that the timecard has been retracted and will need to be resubmitted.
If the timecard has never been saved before or is currently pending or rejected let the engineer save the timecard without showing the warning and normal process should follow.
Can anyone help me out here.I wanted to know the complexity of the issue.
Which method should be adopted to do this.? Can anyone tell me which logic needs to be implemented here.
Thanks,
Sukanya

Hi Kristofer,
When the Employee pressed the Save button and if the status of timecard is Approved/Submitted , a popup should display.
I have created a page with two buttons (Yes and No) with warning "By clicking yes, all previously submitted versions of this timecard will be retracted. The Timecard will need to be resubmitted and reapproved. Are you sure you wish to continue?"..
If Employee pressed Yes...I need to save the timecard and normal process should follow..
Here even if I called the PFR of the TimecardListCO(Standard) controller, It's not working.
Is there a way to create the page dynamically with two buttons ?So that I can write the code in the extended controller itself rather than creating a new page.
Which method should I follow to implement this?
Kindly provide your suggestion...
Thanks,
Sukanya

Hi again Raja!
I did as you recommended and installed HTTPWatch and below is the outcome of that program. It is the exact string with the only exception of obfuscated servernames and portnumbers. The last part that begins with "sap_ep_baseurl=" makes me suspicious, is that part really correct? It looks like it's lacking things.

• How Do I Create A Link To A Different Page?

I'm using the v10.1.2 Portal.
I created 6 Oracle Portlets implemented using JSP. I then created 2 pages within the same page group.
On page 1 I put Portlet_1a, Portlet_1b and Portlet_1c. On page 2 I put Portlet_2a, Portlet_2b and Portlet_2c.
In Portlet_1a I want to create a link that, when clicked, will bring the user to Page 2.
Can someone explain how I can go about doing this? What classes/api should I use? How do I specify a different page within the Page Group?
Thanks,

Hi,
Its can be done, Im also using this.
There are 2 ways how I do it
1) I have a .properties file on the app server where I've put an attribute eg page2URL= http:\\......
In Portlet_1a I read this attribute and use it for navigation. Every portlet instance will read the same attribute value.
2) You can have a Personalization Object and put the page2URL attribute in the portlet defaults. This will store a seperate attribute value for each portlet instance
PL/SQL portlets do it differently again, each page has a (unique) name, you can look up the name inside the portal database and build the url from there. I never done this trick though.
There is a big difference in how the links work on the new portal version and the older one. Friendly links vs identified links.
Classes you can use to help build an url
try {
//url = UrlUtils.constructHTMLLink(pr, UrlUtils.PAGE_LINK, "dummy", "", new NameValue[] {}, false, false);
//url = UrlUtils.constructLink(pr, UrlUtils.PAGE_LINK, new NameValue[] {new NameValue("eventid", ""+1)}, false, false);
url = pr.getRenderContext().getPageURL();
pageLink = url.replaceFirst("<[aA] href=['\"]?(.*?[^'\"])['\"]?>(.*?)</[aA]>", "$1");
pageLinkEnc = URLEncoder.encode(pageLink, "UTF-8");
} catch(Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); }Orcale API already creates a <A....link for me, I didnt want that, so I filtered the actual link from it
Hope this helps a bit

• How to create a link to a home page?

Hi,
I would like to create a link to a home page, some thing similar to what APEX logon screen has at the bottom. Could some one please help me with this? I do not find any item to do this. Do I have to make a separate HTML region and put my HTML code into "source"?
TIA.
Regards,
Tamas

Have you tried to do that? Create a html region and simply put you code in it:
<a href="http://www.google.com">Google</a>
If you want more, you need to study the template layout of ApEx and eventually create your own templates.

• Go URL to a specific page in the dashboard

Hi
I am trying to use the GO Url to navigate from one page to another page in the dashboard based on the conditions. However I am not able to use GO URL to navigate to a specific page in the dashboard. Any idea how i can use GO URL to navigate to a specific page in the dashboard.
thanks

Use Navigation instead of drill down. In the Column Format tab of Column Properties in Answers, click on the Value Interaction drop down and select Navigate. Choose the destination report. (It doesn't matter what Subject Area the destination report was based on.)
In the appropriate column of the destination report, add a filter set to "is prompted." Now when the user clicks on the value, he/she will be taken to the destination report filtered on the value clicked on by the user.
