Create a spatail table using a shape file (.shp) in SQL DB

Hi All,
I am trying to load shape file into a sql spatial table. A execution process task is used to run the ogr2ogr.exe program.
This is how the process tab looks like .
Executable : C:\gdal_ogr2ogr\bin\gdal\apps\ogr2ogr.exe
Argument :  -f MSSQLSpatial   MSSQL:server=SQL-ABC-DEV;database=MYSIMPLE_Dev;Trusted_Connection=True;\\mypath\files\shares\Data\www.mypage.htm\my_sample_file.shp
Success value : 1 (I am not sure why I need to change this value from 0 to 1.
For above settings, package runs fine. However the spatial table is not created always. It is created once in a while after switching Success value from 1 to 0 and 0 to 1 again. (After the spatial table is created, it is dropped using a execute sql statement).
If I run this command SDKShell.bat file, it always works.
I am running this in VS 2012.I saw in an article that we need to convert shp file to csv before we load it into sql server.I even tried to convert shp to csv using execute sql task and ogr2ogr.exe. Still the package runs successfully after changing Success
value from 0 to 1 but no csv file is created. If the success value is 0, it throws the following error.
[Execute Process Task] Error: In Executing "C:\gdal_ogr2ogr\bin\gdal\apps\ogr2ogr.exe" " -f CSV \\xxxxxxxxr.rdn\files\shares\xxx_Data\ImportData\www.xxxxxxx.hapepage.htm\xxxxxx\Watches\Warnings\myfile\CSV \\xxxxxxxxr.rdn\files\shares\xxx_Data\ImportData\www.xxxxxxx.hapepage.htm\xxxxxx\Watches\Warnings\myfiles\www.shp"
at "", The process exit code was "1" while the expected was "0".
Could long file name be a problem too?
Thanks for your help in advance..
shamen

Thank you Andreas
Yes I can run it manually without getting any error.I am also new to ogr2ogr.exe. This is used to load shape files into sql server.
Actually this execute process task was located inside a for each loop. As no parameter is passed from for each loop to execute process task, I placed the execute process task outside of for each loop. Now it is working.
Every time when the package is run, execute process task create a spatial table in the db.
Still I don't know why it is not working when I place it inside the for each loop container.
Thanks

The fact that you are getting an "ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied" message indicates that you are at least talking to the database.
The log shows that username "infdomain" is being used. Can you double check the username and password you have in DAC in a SQL*Plus/SQL Developer session?

  • Creating a new database using an MDF file

My database saves as MDF. I want to know what are the steps to restore or create a new database using a MDF file? I tried to restore as usual but it shows an error. Please help.

An MDF file isn’t a backup file isn’t the main data file (or master data file depending on who you ask) hence the file extension MDF. You can attach the MDF to the database by right clicking on the databases folder in Enterprise Manager (SQL 2000) or Management
Studio (SQL 2005) then selecting all tasks and then Attach Database. When you do this you will get an error about the log file missing. This shouldn’t matter as SQL Server will simply create a new log file for you. This will only work if the SQL Server was
stopped when you copied the MDF file from the old SQL Server. If you copied the file while the SQL Server was running this file probably will not attach either and you will need to get a valid backup of the database.

  • Tutorial:  Creating, saving and re-using Custom Shapes

I've beeen experimenting with custom shapes for the last couple of days, and thought I'd share some of the tips and techniques I found.
First of all, what are custom shapes?
Well, they're vector objects.  That means that they are not built out of millions of individual pixels (like images are), but rather they're a series of mathematical statements that describe how to draw a line from point to point to create the vector shape.  This means that custom shapes are "resolution independent", and that they can be grossly shrunk or enlarged and still retain razor sharp edges, curves and corners.
What are custom shapes good for?
Pretty much anything where you want to use a good, sharp object.  In particular, using a custom shape as a clipping mask for an image that's been placed as a Smart Object is an outstanding technique, and really shows off the power that PSE is capable of.
PSE comes with a lot of ready-to-use custom shapes for its Custom Shape tool, and there are probably hundreds of thousands available on the Web -- just search for "photoshop shapes".  Typically, those shapes will be supplied as Adobe CSH (Custom SHape) files, and simply copying the CSH files into the
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 10\Presets\Custom Shapes"
directory will make them available for use with the Custom Shape tool.
Sooner or later, though, you'll get the itch to create your own custom shapes.  Out of the box, PSE does not have the capability to let you create custom shapes and add them to the CSH files like the "big" Photoshop does, so we'll need to use a workaround:  store your custom shapes as layers in a PSD file, and when you want to use them simply copy them into your image.
N.B.:  To create custom shapes you'll have to use the reasonably priced Elements+ add-in:
    http://elementsplus.net/
So, the procedure goes like this:
Create a new image, using the PSE defaults, and save it as "CustomShapes01.psd", keeping it open.
Open an image containing an object that you want to use as a custom shape.
Use any of the selection tools to make an accurate selection of the object:
In the Effects panel, use the Elements+...Paths effect and choose the Create New Path...From Current Selection:
Use the Elements+...Paths again, choosing "Convert to Shape", giving it a name and colour of your choosing.  This will create a Shape Layer using that name.
Important:  If your shape has "holes",
use the Shape Selection tool and click on the shape to select it.  Then hit the "Combine" button in the Options Bar.  This will combine all the individual shapes used to create the shape and its "holes" into one shape, and prevent beaucoup problems later.
Switch to the Move tool and drag the shape onto the tab of your "CustomShapes01.psd" image, keeping your mouse button pressed.  That image will become activated and you can move your cursor onto the image itself and drop your shape onto it.  Your PSD file will now have your custom shape as a shape layer:
    Save that "CustomShapes01.psd" file.
You can repeat the process for as many custom shapes as you want, and they will each become a layer in the "CustomShapes01.psd" file.
To use your custom shape, open the "CustomShapes01.psd" file and your target image and do the drag and drop with the Move tool to copy the custom shape onto your target image.
I mentioned that using a custom shape as a clipping mask for an image placed as a Smart Object is a very powerful technique.  It's powerful because the custom shape can be altered at any time and still keep its sharpness, and because the Smart Object can also be resized without becoming pixellated.  Of course, that custom shape layer can have any number of layer styles applied to it and those layer styles will "follow" the shape if the shape is moved, resized or rotated.
Here are three examples of using the custom shapes as clipping masks for Smart Objects:
In this example, each custom shape is used as a clipping mask for an image Smart Object, as usual:
Here, one custom shape was used as a clipping mask for an image Smart Object and they were linked.
Then the shape and image were duplicated and moved, rotated and resized.  Because of the linking, the Smart Object automatically kept its orientation and size relative to the custom shape throughout:
If you want to use custom shapes as a "combined" clipping mask, the procedure is a little more complicated because you need to get all your custom shapes on one shape layer.
So, after copying your shapes into the target image (as separate shape layers), use the Shape Selection tool to select one of the shapes.  Using Edit...Cut will cut that shape layer to the Clipboard, and you can select one of the other shape layers and use Edit...Paste to paste the custom shape into that shape layer.  Repeat as necessary, and you will get all of your custom shapes on one shape layer.  Then use that single shape layer as your clipping mask:
The neat thing is that the individual shapes can be selected with the Shape Selection tool and independently moved, resized or rotated as necessary.
    Enjoy!
    Ken

    Thanks, Michel.
I forgot to mention one point about copying shape layers into one shape layer:  when you initially use the Shape Selection tool to select a shape for cutting, make sure the option for the Shape Selection tool is set to "Add to Selection".

An external table definition relates to one or more files.
You could probably create multiple externable table definitions to access the same file(s), but you may end up with some operating system file locking issues if you're not careful, and to be honest why would you need to do that?

  • Creating logical dimension table using common attributes of Facts

I need to create a common logical dimension based on an attribute present in both the fact tables. Example -
    Expense fact has 3 columns expense_key, expense_amount and customer_name
    Revenue fact has 3 columns revenue_key, revenue_amount and customer_name
I need to create a prompt for customer_name and have a report including expense_amount and revenue_amount.
How can I create the logical dimension table in the Repository and join it to both the fact tables?
    Any Suggestions?
    Thanks.

Will there be an exact match between the customer names in both the tables? Also, we do not have a common key between both the tables(Customer Name cannot be used as the common key since it is not the primary key. If we make a join on customer Name we would get wrong duplicated data). If all you want is to pass down the filter of customer name and get the revenue and expense, create 2 fact tables(for expense and revenue) with their own dimensions and then pull them into a common subject area. Then use the set operations to create the following report
Customer Name Revenue Expense_Null (just populate 0)
    Union All
Customer Name Revenue_Null(just populate 0) Expense
Then use the dashboard prompt on this report.

  • Create a partitioned table using Round Robin

    Hi,
I want to create a partitioned table.
My concern is that if I  use round robin now, whether I can  create a primary key for this table in the future?
    Thanks!

You cannot use Round Robin, if your table has primary keys.
But as you must know , now we can create a HASH Partitioning on the tables with out primary key too, i thought ii would rather test once again and comment:
Please find the screen shot below which confirms that Round Robin cannot be done on table with Primary keys.
Where as the table without primary keys am able to use Round robin. Till here it was fine for me.
Now in the second case where i created a table with Round robin and then later i added the primary key using Alter statement, then am able to have Round Robin on the table with primary keys. ( don't know what does that means )

    hi
my requirement is i want to create multiple tables by running script . is it possible .how do i do that can any one suggest me and send sample code to solve this task.
(i have to create 100 userTables it is very difficult to create using code or from B1 that is my requirement )and i think some good solution is there for my problem and inserting the tables into B1 by running script.

    Hi Om,
Take a look at the SDK help files, or even better, the examples provided with the SDK, they give you a good example how to create a usertable.
Tried that, you could programm a loop wich creates your usertables, or a function that progresses a input file containing all your usertables.
    <b>Pseudo code loop (C#)</b>
    for(int i = 1; i <=100; i++)
/* Call you your function that creates a usertable with the given name */
      CreateUserTable("TBL_" + i.ToString());
    Hope it helps,
