Create and remove on read-only beans

while playing around with read-only beans i found that calling create()
ond read-only homes and remove on read only entities does work, which
was new to me. 'work' just means changing the database ;)
ist there any danger in using this (maybe just an internal feature which
does not work in 7.0, ...) ?
axel.

You should definitely check out 7.0 and its support for optimistic caching. It
does what you want.

No, it'll work fine. Until 7.0, read-only beans always ran in an
unspecified transaction. In 7.0, this has been relaxed to allow you to use
all the tx attributes with read-only beans.sounds great; seems that we should give 7.0 beta a try.
what comes to my mind is: if read-only beans would also write changes to
their CMP fields to the database (and send invalidation message) we
would have some kind of write-through-caching bean, wouldnt we ?
this is actually what I'm searching for, since we have to port an
application to weblogic with was designed using one bean per business
object - mapping this to the two-bean read-mostly pattern without
changing the present logic seems impossible without many changes and
loosing the ability to run on other application servers too.
so why not a 'read-mostly-bean' instead of manually implementing it ?

I create a entity bean and remove the same entity bean in the same transaction.

    bean a = homeBean.create(pk);

    BM,
If you want to import the utils package into your code, then the location of the utils package has to be in your CLASSPATH. JDeveloper uses libraries to define a project's CLASSPATH.
I'm not sure exactly what's going on here, but you might want to read the information about packages and class libraries in the online documentation. It's under:
    User Guides
    -> Working with JDeveloper

  • How could I create, force mount, and burn a read-only cross-platform .iso image?

    Hello,
I am new to this group.
I want to perform the following steps as quickly as possible.
    1. Create a cross-platform .iso
    2. Mount the cross-platform .iso as read-only
    3. Unmount the cross-platform .iso
    4. Finally, burn the cross-platform read-only .iso to CD-R media
I need someone to give me an example and step-by-step instructions by using the hdiutil command in Mac Terminal.
Thanks in advance for your responses.
    John P.

    1. Create a cross-platform .iso
    hdiutil makehybrd -o image-file source-directory -iso -iso-volume-name volume-name
    2. Mount the cross-platform .iso as read-only
    hdiutil attach image-file
    3. Unmount the cross-platform .iso
    hdiutil detach /Volumes/volume-name
    4. Finally, burn the cross-platform read-only .iso to CD-R media
    hdiutil burn image-file
For more information, see the man page for hdiutil(1).

  • Clustering read-only bean-managed entity ejbs

I'm designing a data caching approach that relies on using read-only entity ejbs with bean-managed persistence. My design is based on the fact that WebLogic blocks on entity bean access by concurrent users for a given bean instance (unique primary key). I would like to keep only one entity bean instance active(timeoutSetting=0) for eacy primary key for all users to share. That way I only have to hit the database one time to initially populate data in the entity bean. I'm worried about this approach in a WebLogic clustered environment. From reading notes in this newsgroup and other doc, it appears that WebLogic might not use one instance of the entity bean (based upon unique primary key) in a clustered environment. Is that true (that being multiple users could get their own instance of the entity bean with the same primary key)?
              Thanks,
              Bryan

Typically, the read-write EJBs are on each WL server instance, so there is
no remote invocation -- it is all done by reference.

We have a audit requirement to restrict a responsibility from Banks acess. So removed the Bank Setup Menu and created a Banks Read Only fucntion and assigned it to the responsibility
Now I can see Banks as read only but the Bank Account button is greyed out.
Please let me know if we can make it to work

  • Newly created folders give "staff" read-only permission

When I create a new folder in my home directory it has the following permissions:
    Me: Read & Write
    staff: Read only
    everyone: No Access
Other (non-admin) accounts seem to belong to staff and thus have read access to any non-standard folders in my main (admin) home directory.
    1) How can I change the staff permissions on these folders (Finder gives me an error)? Is this only possible using sudo chmod?
    2) How can I change the default permissions to stop giving default access to all users through the staff group?
    Thx,
    Chris

Other (non-admin) accounts seem to belong to staff and thus have read access
to any non-standard folders in my main (admin) home directory.
The easiest solution is just not to keep confidential folders that you create yourself at the top level of Home. You could instead create a single enclosing folder to hold that all that extra material, call it, say, "My Other Stuff", and put it in your Documents folder where it would be protected from all other users. You could then create descriptive subfolders within in it, which would also be protected.
If you still instead want to alter the permissions of folders that you create yourself and you don't want to use Terminal, take a look at [BatChmod|http://www.macchampion.com/arbysoft/BatchMod/Welcome.html].

  • Reset lost root password and now have read only filesystem

    Hello,
I have recently had to reset a locked root password by booting from cdrom, mounting the first boot disk, editing the shadow file to remove root's password and rebooting the system.
The system has booted OK but, I now have a read only filesystem - everything in / cannot be edited, passwd doesnt work etc.
df -k shows the root (/) filesystem has been mounted on the physical disk I edited:

#to mount to fsck point type pass at boot options

So, can I simply boot from CDROM again, amend the vfstab to be /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0 (instead of /dev/md/dsk/d03) and reboot?
Any help with this is appreciated!

Remember if this is a mirrored drive, when you boot from CD you may need to mount both sides of the mirror and make changes on both sides- otherwise the replication may not goes as expected.
Actually, I have run into problems with the modifying one side of a mirror this way. In the past Sun tech support would recommend that I break the mirror and then rebuild it once the system is up and running. So in your case you may want to boot from CD, mount the 1st disk slice, edit /etc/vfstab AND /etc/system, boot into the OS and use the various meta commands to delete and rebuild the mirror- or at least maybe to drop and reattach the 2nd 1/2 of the mirror.

  • Compress and change to read-only on a warehouse table partition?

I found the command to compress a partition. I was wondering if I can also make a particular partition read only or is that only possible at the table space level? This is for a warehouse and we'd like to save space on our partitions that age out of the current month since they will never change we would also like performance gains(backup speed) by putting the old partitions into read only mode on each of our warehouse tables. Is that possible and if so what's the command?
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Hello Wang,
You need to bind the readOnly attribute of the input field to a newly to created attribute beneath the dataSource node of the table within the context. That way, each input field of each row of the table can have a different value for readOnly.
    Best regards,
    Thomas

Why this exception is occurring? Kindly help me with this, its a bit urgent!!!!

    Hi
    1. First create a user like readonlyweblogic using some password in Weblogic Console. In Weblogic Console itself, select this new user and go to his Group Memberships and add a Group named Monitors. This means this user has Monitor role for Weblogic Console. Monitor is a Read Only access role to the weblogic console.
    2. NOW, with full admin privileges user, login into EM Console. Select soa_infra, right click mouse -> Security -> Application Roles. On right side, click green arrow and see list of Roles shown. Select the role named SOAMonitors, click on this. And add a User to this that is created above like "readonlyweblogic".
    3. Close all the browsers. Open a new browser and test weblogic console and em console with this new user.
I have this setup like this in many envs and they all work fine. They are read only access users for admin console and em console.
    Thanks

  • How to remove windows read only bit ( on  a mac)

Before I bought my mac, I copied my files from my old windows machine to the mac. Now I cannot move or rename or delete these files. I have found out that windows puts a read only bit to all files which the windows explorer ignores. It seems possible to remove this bit on windows (http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6349670#6349670) but I have not yet found a way to remove it on mac. Does anyone know if that is possible?

Try Paragon NTFS for Mac OS X - http://www.paragon-software.com/home/ntfs-mac/
    # Paragon NTFS for Mac® OS X beats down the barriers between Windows and Mac® OS!
    # Effectively solves the communication problems between the Mac® system and NTFS. Providing full read&write access to Windows NTFS partitions under Mac® OS X.
You can get a demo, and it just might give you the ability to work with those files?
