Create buttons that fade in on MENU

Like any comercial DVD, I'd like to be able to have my buttons fade in (not be seen before as a background movie first starts). Then at my desired time, i'd like to be able to have the button be selected and accessed. How do you specify this?
I thought a work around would be to have the PLAY button right on the MOTION menu i created...but I wouldn't have the interactivity when selecting the Buttons, like underlining..etc.

You could certainly achieve this the way joey848 describes, but you should read up on setting the 'loop point' before you go any further.
You need to construct the footage for the introduction and fade in all of the elements that you want to appear, including button texts, then hold this for at least 30 seconds as a still. Use FCP, Motion, AE, whatever you like. Take a frame out of this into Photoshop (or similar) and use it as a guide, and create an overlay pict file (as for a standard menu) which has the highlight shapes on it only (not the frame from the sequence). Import that into DVDSP along with your animated sequence.
Use the sequence in a menu, and use the property inspector to set the loop point slider to a place just after the sequence becomes still. Add the overlay file, draw the button rectangles and set the targets and navigation as you would for a standard menu.
What will happen is that the entire animated sequence will play and your fade will take place, then the buttons will be active. At the end of the menu the loop will occur - there will be a slight pause as this happens - and then the still section will continue on screen. If you want to go back to the menu and start at the loop point then you'll need to use a short script to do so. The details for this are in the DVDSP user manual.

Actionscript 1&2: Buttons that fade music out or in.

This is a real general question but I'll explain what I'm trying to ask for.
I'm trying to make a button that when you press it, you continue on to the next "scene." I know how to do that now.
I also want music to play when clicking the button but the issue remains, how will the music keep up if the user is pressing it too soon? I don't want it to end abruptly so I need a code that fades the music out (or in).
So what code am I looking for?

you need to create a loop (like onEnterFrame) that decreases the volume of your sound with each loop iteration. terminate the sound when not needed.

Creating button that will take you to table of contents pages

I'm using CS4 and have created a 30 page document with a table of contents (TOC) on page 2. On my master page I have previous and next page buttons that have rollover states. These work.
I want a button in the middle that will take you to the TOC page.
I have tried creating a text anchor on page 2 and setting the action of my button to go to anchor but in the button window the text anchors area is grayed out and has 'none' in it.
I also tried to have a button with a rollover state just for show (no action assigned) and putting an invisible hyperlink on top of the button. The link goes to page 2. This only works on the areas where my hyperlink does not overlap the button.
Is there a way around this?

How to create buttons that control left and right scroll?

I would like to know if there is a way to create two buttons, each on the left and right hand sides of the screen, that would control the horizontal (x-axis) scroll of my website. I've built two image buttons that link to anchors located on the left and righthand edges of the page, but this does not achieve the funtionality I'm looking for. I would like each button to scroll incrementally every time it is pressed.
Is this possible in Muse?

I used Motion to create a short background movie (15 seconds) and I would like to add some buttons at the bottom of the screen. What I would like to do is to make those buttons to be gradually appearred.

What you do here James is to add the button text and whatnot to the Motion footage that you created for the background, making the buttons fade in or appear as you want. Add enough footage to the end for the user to make a choice - typically 30+ seconds where things are still and steady. You then import this in to DVDSP and set it into a menu, then adjust the loop point to be where the buttons have settled in place. You can now add an overlay file to the menu so that you get the buttons highlighting as you want, by creating this in something like Photoshop. For the purpose of the menu you treat it now as a simple overlay menu and draw out the button rectangles over the button text and overlay highlights.
What happens is the overlay gets attached to the loop point marker so that the background plays, the buttons fade up and then the overlay kicks in which makes the buttons 'clickable'. The static portion of the menu remains in place until the end of your footage so that the user can make a selection. If they don't, the menu loops back to the loop point and the user has another 30+ seconds to make their choice. When the loop occurs the buttons will momentarily flash off and back on again... all that is normal.
Have a read up on setting the loop point in the DVDSP manual... good luck!

I upgraded to firefox 4 but I can't see the Firefox Button that contains all the menu items.

I see the old style with the following options:
File Edit View [etc..]

Go to the View > Toolbars menu item, then click the checked item for Menu Bar. That should turn off the classic display and instead display the single Firefox item.

How can I make a menu with button's that fade-in?

I've built a motion menu in AE, and had added text layers/buttons that fade-in through layer>Encore>Create Button. Once I import this into Encore through dynamic link I cannot link the buttons to the motion menu. I've added a sample.
Basically all I want is the play feature, Scene selection ,and credits to be selectable after they finish fading in @ the :20 mark. I don't want the menu to loop either.
I've tried to make a static menu(from last frame in AE) play after this, but, there is a one second gap or so before that static menu plays which just looks tacky. I have tried this in preview, and rendered it to a dvd with the same result.
All the tutorials i've come across really don't answer this question either.
Any help would be appreciated.

Acrobat 9.0 Std - How do I create a button that will show / hide the menu bar?

In Adobe Acrobat 8, I was able to create a button that would show the menu bar using Link Properties. In version 9.0, the option I used is missing.
The other view options are there under "Execute a menu item": View > Toolbars > File, Edit, etc.

Trying to properly code a menu with buttons that can go back and forth between external swf files

I have a project I've been working on that, when properly coded, has a "main menu" with 4 "doors" (buttons). When the corresponding buttons to these "doors" are clicked, it should go to and play an external .swf file. If that doesn't make sense, think of a DVD menu. You click play movie, it plays the movie. When the movie is over, there's two buttons on that swf file to either play the movie over or go back the main menu, which is an external .swf file (Remember, we go to the movie from the menu, which is a seperate file). So far, the buttons work. The menu works. However, from the movie, at the conclusion, when I click the button to go back to the main menu, it displays the movie clip and the buttons, but none of the buttons work. I'm starting to think it has to do with the fact the main menu was written in AS3 and the movie was made in AS2. If anyone can assist me in being to able to keep both files and still navigate between the two, being able to bring up the menu from the movie and be able to play the movie again, and so on and so on, that'd be GREAT. I'm somewhat of a noob to Flash, but I learn quickly and I'm open to any suggestions. Here's the code for main menu, which I guess acts as the parent file, and the movie. If I get this to work, I essentially would duplicate the same actions for the other 4 doors, once I complete the environments for them. Thanks

At least you're going in the correct (mis)direction. You have AS3 loading AS2. So that's not a huge hurdle.
I believe all you really need to do is send your Main.swf a signal that the content it loaded (e.g. jayzspeaks.swf) is done and you want to get rid of it.
The code I pointed you to asks you to (upon download and import then) instantiate it in both AS2 and AS3. They give a very simple easy to understand line of code.

Make sure the connectionID matches between them. Set it to whatever you want.
When you're done with your as2 loaded content you'd send a signal (over localconnection) back to the AS3 Main like they say:
myBridge.send("someFunctionToUnloadContent");
myBridge.close();
You'd need to make the as3 function "someFunctionToUnloadContent()" (example purposes only name) and it should unload the jayzspeaks.swf that was loaded in the loader.
Make sure you get that close in there so you don't drill up a bunch of localconnection objects just like the simple source code says.

Help With Buttons to Fade In on Main Main

I am imported a video file I made is Motion. I need to know how I can make the buttons fade in on the last part of the main menu? it wont let me do so? When make the new buttons it just plays the through the whole thing, cant get the buttons to start a a certain point? Thanks T.

I'm trying to scan a document with a scanner but to do so I need to find the Create button that allows me to use the scanner. The Create button is nowhere to be found; it's not in the File dropdown menu and the top left of the screen has an Open button but there's no Create button. I have Adobe Reader XI on Windows 8.1.

Adobe Reader doesn't allow you to create PDF files--it's a PDF viewer. If you're looking to create a PDF file from a scanner, you can either use the software included with the scanner, or, better yet, you can use Acrobat. Buttons that expand/reveal on hover?

Hey guys,
I was wondering if there is any way to create buttons that expand to their full size when the user rolls over their minimum size?
For example:

My aim is to have ribbon-like tab 'nubbins' at the top of the screen that expand downwards to reveal an icon (like '?') that the user can click to navigate somewhere (i.e. '?' would take them to a help page or open a help popup). I'd like to be able to do this with just native Captivate (using 8), or if not combining it with javascript etc.

Hey guys, just to update this:
I am at the moment playing around with the following technique.
1. Create an image of the button in its 'unused' state, i.e. the minimum size it will ever be, and position it where you like the expanding button to be. We'll call this the 'button background image'.
2. Create a rollover image where a) the rollover area is completely transparent, b) the rollover area is positioned over the button background image, c) the image triggered by the rollover area is exactly the same, and positioned exactly the same, as the button background image.
3. Add an effect to the image triggered by the rollover area. It should be a motion path to move the image down slightly (or left/right slightly if your button is on the side rather than at the top of the slide).
4. Add an invisible button roughly the size of the rollover image (at its most extended size).
My reservations are:
- The technique seems a bit buggy, as not every time I preview in browser does it display correctly, but that might be to do with previewing it - perhaps a fully published version would work fine.
- I have a sneaking suspicion that it won't work on all browsers but I don't know what I'm founding that suspicion on!
- You can't have the nice 'motion out' effect that you can achieve when making this kind of button in html/javascript/etc. it just 'jumps' back to the original position rather than sliding back out. I have added an exit motion path to this button so that if the object times out it will do this, but it's a shame not to be able to have it when the user moves the mouse away from the button in general.

Yes you can...
When you create the button, don't set anything for the page / URL redirect. Then go to your pl/sql process definition and set it to fire "when button pressed..." Finally, just make sure you either have a branch set, as a default, redirecting back to your current page or create a branch specifically for "when button pressed..." as well. I usually create a default branch back to the current page for any page that can be submitted with a sequence of 999 (and no conditions) so that it is (usually) the last redirect that is evaluated. This will always save the error "No page to redirect to..." and also saves creating a bunch of unnecessary branches
