Create data dump in Oracle 10g
Hi All,
Can somebody please tell me how to create a data dump and then import the database structure and data from an existing database?
The data dump would consist of the complete database structure, i suppose.
I am using Oracle 10g Rel 1.
Thanks in Advance,
Tanuja
Note, neither classical export nor datapump is really a database backup. You only perform a logical data extraction,but it's difficult to recreate a lost database based only on export dumps. Additionally you will have loss of data,because you only can restore the data as it was,when you did the export. Changes made later are lost. See export/import as an add-on,but backup your database physically. The best way to do this is (in my opinion) RMAN.

How we create new data base in oracle 10g express edition
hello every body.. i student of B tech n new user of oracle so please help me how we creat new data base in oracle 10g express edition
Hello, Oracle XE can not create more than one instance, the other editions yes, but like other editions XE allows you to create database schemas, schemas logically grouped objects like tables, views, indexes created by a user. By creating an Oracle user is associated with a schema of the same name.
Using SYS or system accounts for creating user accounts.
Syntax to create a user:
create user Your_user
IDENTIFIED BY password
default tablespace users;
grant connect, resources to your_user;

Error while creating datasource userdsn for oracle 10g Errorcode (998)
while creating datasource userdsn for oracle 10g i am getting error "The setup routines for the oracle in OraDb10g_home1 odbc driver could not be loaded due to system error code 998" please give reply soon
Thanks for your reply , Steve.
I noticed that there is a default datasouce on the EM with the following parameters:
<data-source
class="com.evermind.sql.DriverManagerDataSource"
name="OracleDS"
location="jdbc/OracleCoreDS"
xa-location="jdbc/xa/OracleXADS"
ejb-location="jdbc/OracleDS"
connection-driver="oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"
username="scott"
password="->pwForScott"
url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:oracle"
inactivity-timeout="30"
/>
The location and xa-location attributes that I use for my "test" data source are the same as the default one. So, could this be the issue?
What should be the values for location and xa-location attributes from my "test" data source?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Help to create complex graphs in oracle 10g reports
As my company has migrated from 6i to Oracle 10g, but as graph ogd files are obselete in Oracle 10g , I am trying to create new graphs in Oracle 10g.
But problem I am facing that I cannot give axis value 'LABEL' or define my own scale or draw any lines on chart or inshort plot graph as I need. Moreover no way to read objects on Chart. In forms 6i it was easy to read object with command "OG_GET_OBJECT(OBJECT_NAME)". Helps tell me to use graph.dtd but I am unable to use it or I don't know how to use it. No documentation available anywhere how to use graph.dtd syntax.
Is it possible to achieve my above goals or any other tools to customize charts.
PrashantHello FormsEleven,
First of all very Thanks for reply. Thanks for your valuable time given to me.
I don't have any error in my java/jinit console infact latest jinit is running and web browser start with message applet are being loaded and Oracle forms service installed successfully. All other forms details are very well displayed on browser form, only bean area remains empty. Following are my formsweb.cfg details. Note on below [bigraph] section I have commented some lines but that also done after my form did not work.

Why i can't not create new database in oracle 10g express
why i can't not create new database in oracle 10g express?
should i use oracle 11g standard edition?
thanksIn Oracle a schema is what a 'database' is in Sqlserver.
And if you would have been aware about the limitations of XE, you would have known you can only create *1* (one) database using Oracle XE.
However, probably you don't need a new database at all, and a schema will suffice.

How to import a data base into oracle 10g.
hi all
when am using the scott/tiger username and password in the SQL plus i got this msg..
"the account is locked"
how can i solve this issue?
and when i use the same username and password scott/tiger in addition to define a Host string " orcl" which is my new automatically generated database while installation.. it gives me this msg: TNS: no listener.
any help ?
by the way i succeed to login using .. system/zaq123 which is my own created password while installing oracle 10g ....ver 10.1.2.0 ..... in addition to the Host string "orcl" ......If you're not familiar with OEM, or you want to learn, you can unlock that account from SQL*Plus, too.
And when you unlocked SCOTT, don't forget to look after your TNSNAMES and LISTENER configuration...
Good luck! -
How to create new database on Oracle 10g
Hi All,
Can any one tell me how to create new database on oracle 10g.
Thanks in Advance for your help.again some confusion here.....
u said u need a new database in your first post and now you saying u need a new schema..
one database has many schemas(users)..... ex: scott,sys,system are few of them...
now it depends you need seperate database for test,dev environment - this is in the case u have many schemas under each database and many tables(objects) under each schema.
OR
You just need a separate schema (in same db) for test,dev environment...where in you will have multiple tables in each schema...U need to know the dba credentials of the db to create a new schema.
ideally u need to have different database...You can create one with out sys/system(oracle users) password as these passwords are db dependent.
what you need is access to the any machine where server is installed(can be the same mc where you have your dev db or a diff machine) and that will be the machine where your db will be installed (can do it through database configuration assistance),ofcourse you will need windows authentication for this.
so you login to the same machine or access it from your machine using remote login.
I hope that is clear.Hope i am not listing things that you already know..Just did it coz of confusion between db and schema

How to create ODBC connection between Oracle 10g and MS SQL Server
Hi,
Can someone help us with the steps to create an ODBC connection between Oracle APPS using Oracle 10g database and MS SQL Server.
Requirement is to extract the transactional data from MS SQL Server on a daily basis and dump it into Oracle tables for an interface to be run. Currently it is being done through Dataloader tool which we feel is causing the data issue with Arabic characters. We want to create the ODBC directly between Oracle and MS SQL Server and check if the data is being pulled correctly.
The data is in sql server 2000 which has data in Arabic_CI_AS character set which is moved to Oracle 10.2.0.3 database with characterset AL32UTF8. The table data is moved to oracle using the dataloader 3.6 standard edition licensed version. We cannot change the character set of Sql Server 2000.
Please help
Thanks
ShanilHi,
If you're trying to PULL data from SQLServer into an Oracle database, you wouldnt use Oracle ODBC driver for that, so you may want to post in the Heterogeneous Services forum instead:
Heterogeneous Connectivity
If you're trying to PUSH data from SQLServer into an Oracle database, you could use ODBC but most folks use OLEDB for that, and the following note on MOS should help:
How to Create a Sql Server Linked Server With The Oracle Provider for OLE DB (Doc ID 191368.1)
As with any NLS related issue, the first thing to do is dump the codepoints of the data in the Oracle database to see if it is stored validly, rather than relying on what the data "looks like" from some tool or other. It's best to check a single row, with only a few characters in it if you can, and you can do that via
SELECT DUMP(<columname>,1016) FROM <tablename> WHERE ...
Hope it helps,

How to import a data dump into Oracle express
Hi
Thank you for reading my post
how i can import a data dump which is a dump of my Schema in oracle 10g into oracle database express ?
indeed it is just 20 tables and one sequence that i exported from oracle 10g and i want to import it into my oracle express 10g
thanksHi,
I
1) export the data from your source database XE
C:\WINDOWS\system32>exp userid=USER1@XE1 file=user1.dmp
2) in the target XE database you would have to recreate the same user, e.g. USER1
3) run imp on the same dump file:
C:\WINDOWS\system32>imp userid=USER1@xe2 file=user1.dmp full=yes ignore=yes
II
From DOS prompt make directory
DOS>md c:\oraclexe\tmp
DOS>cd c:\oraclexe\app\product\10.2.0\server\BIN
DOS>sqlplus SYS/Password AS SYSDBA
It is posible to be SYS/Password@SID AS SYSDBA
SQLPlus>CREATE OR REPLACE DIRECTORY XMLDIR AS 'C:\oraclexe\Tmp';
SQLPlus>GRANT READ, WRITE ON DIRECTORY XMLDIR TO property;
Go back to DOS prompt. There are two files - expdp.exe and impdp.exe in BIN directory.
DOS>expdp SYS/Password AS SYSDBA SCHEMAS=property DIRECTORY=XMLDIR DUMPFILE=property.dmp LOGFILE=property.log
From DOS prompt make directory
DOS>md c:\oraclexe\tmp
DOS>cd c:\oraclexe\app\product\10.2.0\server\BIN
DOS>sqlplus SYS/Password AS SYSDBA
It is posible to be SYS/Password@SID AS SYSDBA
SQLPlus>ALTER SYSTEM SET NLS_LENGTH_SIMANTICS='CHAR' SCOPE=BOTH;
SQLPlus>CREATE OR REPLACE DIRECTORY dmpdir AS 'C:\oraclexe\Tmp';
SQLPlus>GRANT READ, WRITE ON DIRECTORY XMLDIR TO public;
Go back to DOS prompt. There are two files - expdp.exe and impdp.exe in BIN directory.
DOS>impdp SYS/Password AS SYSDBA SCHEMAS=property DIRECTORY=XMLDIR DUMPFILE=property.dmp LOGFILE=property.log
There are so many treads about export and import in XE.

Oracle Data Provider for Oracle 10g
We have an application certified on the ODP 9.2.0.2102, Oracle Client and Oracle ODBC 9.2.0.6. We have a client who is moving to Oracle 10g client within the next few months but will still be hitting an Oracle 9.2 backend.
My question is: Is the 9.2.0.2102 ODP compatible with the 10g client, or do we need to certify against a newer version of the ODP? And if the latter, what version of ODP is recommended?
We plan to certify against the latest of both this year, but for now, we need the path of least resistence.
Thanks for your help.
ToddIt is not "hard" to create your own geocoding schema though you will need to know how to create tables (with Oracle Spatial columns) in Oracle and before you do create the tables you should read through the documentation to be certain you have all of the required data and metadata.
Navteq, a data provider, also has sample geocoding data (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/spatial/htdocs/spatial_partners_data.html) as well as data for sale. Downloading and importing the Navteq data might give you a good idea about what you will need to do if you were to build your own geocoding schema using your data.
I hope this helps.

2. I am confused regarding Four GB of user data Limitation. I don't understand nothing much about this. Presently If I prepare a dump (export) file in oracle 9i the size becomes around 250MB. If I switch to oracle 10g XE, how long will I be able to use my database?
Rgds,
LutherHi Mates!
There is one limitation in oracle XE which is:
It stores up to four GB of user data.
I am planning to migrate my database from Oracle 9i
to Oracle 10g XE. My queries are below:
1. Is it possible to migrate from Oracle 9i to Oracle
10g XE?this is a simple test case, you can install XE, export from 9i and import to XE. I did it before, it worked for me, but this does not mean it will for you, testing is only way to be sure.
There are lots of limitation of XE mentioned in the Licensing Information Guide.

2. I am confused regarding Four GB of user data
Limitation. I don't understand nothing much about
this. Presently If I prepare a dump (export) file in
oracle 9i the size becomes around 250MB. If I switch
to oracle 10g XE, how long will I be able to use my
database?My XE is ~3,3 GB total, datafile + tempfile size, apex applications are working without problem. But consider all syatem + user data as a total, so 250 MB user data won't be a problem, most probably.

To create standby database using oracle 10g standared edition
my producation database is oracle 10G standard edition .Can i implement a oracle dataguard or standby database using standard edition licenses.if standby database is possiable in standard edition .what are the steps for creating a standby database using oracle 10g standard edition.
General answer is http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/license.102/b14199/editions.htm#BABJICBB.
For Data Guard you cannot :
- use instance parameters to automatically send archived redo logs
- use instance parameters to resolve archived redo logs gaps
- create a logical standby
- use SQL statements to do switchover / failover
- use Data Guard Broker. -
I have a server with SO Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4
Oracle Oracle 10G release 2 (10.2.0.1)
After instaling the patch (10.2.0.3) to the data base it doesn´t allow me to create a new data base when the dbca is going to generate the service it disconects it self from oracle and marks
an error that its not conected to oracle.

Rafael MendozaHi Rafael
Did you change your shm values in the kernel ? Please check those values in 2.6 Configuring Kernel Parameters
64 bits: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15667/pre_install.htm#i1011296
32 bits: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15660/pre_install.htm#sthref264
Note that you have to increase : semmni, semmns,shmmni should be multiplied by # of instances, SHMMAX should be set to avail memory
Can you please give us your values from your server please?
Your physical memory :
grep MemTotal /proc/meminfo
And also the result of
ipcs -l
which release of Linux are working with 32 bits or 64 bits ? -
