Create ical events using perl

Hey you guys, I am trying to create several events in ical. I have a textfile containing dates body and titel. Which I do not know is how to create an adequate ics files which i can then import into ical. Is there a parser which I can change to my needs to create multiple events? For example

March 25, 2008 12:15 AM
Body
Titel
March 26, 2008 12:15 AM
Body
and so on. So now i want to create an event for each one of them. Anyone an idea on how to approach this. Thanks

If you know how to make an ics file in Perl, I would go ahead with that, as learning Applescript will take a while - it is simple but frustratingly inconsistent. The UID is not an issue. If iCal finds one in an ics file you import it will ignore it and substitute a new one, and if it doesn't find one it will simply make one.
The Macscripter site has links to many Applescript tutorials.

Problem creating iCal Events from Mail in Leopard

The new function that allows the user to create iCal events from Mail messages is quite impressive and very useful. Unfortunately the data detectors seem to have trouble with certain commonplace date formats. While the detector recognises the date, it cannot activate an event in iCal. For instance the data detector will pick up the dates in these formats and create iCal events:
30 October 2007
30 Oct 07
30/10/07
but not in this format:
30-Oct-07
In the latter case, the data detector recognises it is a date, produces the drop menu, but will not carry through and create an event to iCal. It's annoying in that many companies use the latter format in their communications. Any workaround?

There is another problem I have found.
I have my computer set in international settings formats to show the date in the "English format"
January 4th 2007 is 4/1, however an entry in mail 4/1 is put into iCal on the first of April!
I found this out after looking for a meeting I knew I had put in for next week.
beware, can this bug be fixed?

How do I fix Mail's [apparently lost] "create iCal event" feature?

When the data detector feature in Mail detects a date (and/or time) the contextual menu offers to create (or edit and create) an event in iCal. This used to work.
Recently (not sure how long, perhaps last week or two, maybe longer) I have found that (in Mail) I can bring up the same contextual menu, showing the event to be created, and the other events already on that day (oddly, however, each existing event appears in duplicate: peculiar new behaviour). I can edit the presented new event, then click Create event, the contextual menu window whooshes away, and when I go to iCal the event is not there.
If I now try again, Mail shows my recent attempted creation as if it had occurred (ie same appearance as the events that are in fact already in iCal), but again nothing happens.

How to create iCal events from other applications?

I want to create event linked with a certain document, e.g. when I've finishes a letter in Pages or in TeXShop, I want to create an event in iCal for reminder. I know, that I can in iCal create events and add the link to the file into the URL field of an event. But I want in Pages, TeXShop, Numbers, … to click: »Create reminder in iCal on <date>.«
Is there a way for it?

You can use Firewire Target Disk mode: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661 to transfer the appropriate iCal files.

Create an event using abap class (transaction swetypv)

Im trying to create an event by using an abap class.
The purpose is to update po reqs using BAPI_REQUISITION_CHANGE upon saving a sales order. The exit is called on saving a sales order MV45AFZZ.
In MV45AFZZ the method cl_swf_evt_event is called and the object type, event, objkey and obj cat is exported.
Object Type = ZBUS203200
Event = Z_TRAD_ORDER_CHANGE_OO
I created my class ZCL_UPDATE_PUR_REQ (by copying CL_SWF_RUN_WIM_HANDLER
And using interface name BI_EVENT_HANDLER_STATIC )
In /nswetypv I assigned Class ZCL_UPDATE_PUR_REQ
to Object Type ZBUS203200
And Event Z_TRAD_ORDER_CHANGE_OO.
All that works fine except for passing in the objectkey.
In Class ZCL_UPDATE_PUR_REQ
Method BI_EVENT_HANDLER_STATIC~ON_EVENT
When I go to create a parameter for object key, I get the message
Parameters/exceptions of inherited methods or events cannot be changed.
Has anyone any suggestions for how I can get the object key into the method call BI_EVENT_HANDLER_STATIC~ON_EVENT?

You don't need a class to do the job if you are on a 6.10 or higher system. Use command CALL TRANSFORMATION to create an XML from an internal table.

Create iCal events from anywhere? not working in 10.5.4

There is a wonderful automator workflow that really helps creating new events on the fly.....
Well it doesn't work any more in 10.5
below is the tip from macworld.

Strangely, the workflow runs fine when used inside Automator; it just fails when run as an application.

Is anyone experiencing High loading times for iCal events using Outlook exchange

I am using an iPad2 and use the default iCal and another calendar app (HD Informant) connected Exchange and synched to Outlook. Recently it is taking over 45 seconds to a minute to load calendar events. When I go to swipe to a new week, it freezes' or at least takes another 45 seconds to move day to day, week to week or month to month.
Is anyone experiencing similar issues?

categories are not supported at present. If you add a contact to your phone and sync, you will need to categorize in outlook.

Creating calendar events using gmail

Using gmail from the 8900, is there a way to create a calendar event and invite other attendees as well as accept meetings sent from other users on Outlook?

How can I automatically create calendar events using text from a Pages document?

Hello,
I'm looking for a way that I can automatically have calendar events created, by extracting dates and times from a table within a Pages document I have saved on my Mac.
Currently, I record my working hours/dates on a Pages document in table format, so that I can record and ensure I receive payment for all hours I work.
After finding out which shifts I have for the week, I insert the day, date, start time and end time (for each shift), into a table within a Pages document.
I'm wondering if there is any way - such as through Automator, Apple Scripts, etc. - that I can then have the Calendar app automatically create events from that data - including the date, start and end times for each shift?
Also, if possible, is there a way to set each event to automatically alert me at a chosen time (1 day, 2 days, etc.) beforehand?

I totally agree with you.
Where are the fixes for a long string of bugs, glitches and user issues?
Looking at the list of new "features" for the next OSX, Maverick (what a dumb name!), all I am seeing is Apple ripping off other peoples' ideas, something it swinges others mercilessly for.
There is not one thing in Maverick that I don't already have, only more so, with 3rd party add-ons.
Apple seems bereft of ideas now and I am totally mystified what it is doing with all that money and employees it has accumulated.

Exclamation Marks when creating ical events

When I enter my location (just my hse name?) and hit return it adds a "!" just before it - why? It didn't prior to me updating the ical in mobileme!
It then does the same thing when I add invitee's; hit return after entering their email add and then it shows their name/email add but with a browish/greyish exclamation maek - plus the invitee's don't actuall get an invite.
What's going on - all help/advice gratefully received

When you say "updating the ical in mobileme" I think you mean you upgraded to the MobileMe Calendar Beta?
The MobileMe Calendar Beta is a server based calendar. With server based calendars the "location" and "invitee" fields are server based. What does this mean? This means that when you type in a location, the server is looking in it's database at a list of "locations" to see what it has. In large companies this might be a list of conference rooms. As this is a MobileMe server there are no location so whatever you type in is "not found" therefore you get the exclamation point.
The same is true for invitees. Server based invitees are looking for people on the server. In a company the server would contain a list of all the employees on the server. People on the server will show up in the invitee list. As there is no one on the server in this case, everyone you enter in gets the exclamation point.
You can still send an invite to someone by clicking on the arrow by their name and choosing send email.
I have been playing with the Beta since it came out and haven't figured out how these features of iCal are supposed to work with the MobileMe Calendar Beta. It is a Beta after all (which is testing software...not a final product) so some features may not be ironed out yet.

You could try contacting MobileMe to see if they have any insight: http://www.apple.com/support/mobileme/ However Beta software is by definition testing software so they may not be supporting this trial run yet.

ICal events being deleted when syncing with Palm Zire 21

I have been syncing my Palm Zire 21 with iCal successfully for over a year with few problems. A few weeks ago I noticed that almost, but not all of the events on both the Palm device and iCal more than three months old were gone. Then, a few weeks later, I noticed that the events suddenly were all back in the iCal application, but not on the Palm device.
But this week, I used HotSync (as usual) to sync iCal and the Palm device, and the events were gone again. Now I am wondering what on Earth I am doing to cause this. I have read the articles about setting up to sync. I double-checked to be sure I have been syncing the way that is outlined in the instructions in the help articles.
I must have missed something vital. I have been backing up my iCal to my .Mac account using Backup. I am thinking that I can restore the iCal events using my last backup. Can I? And how do I keep this from happening again?

Found the issue for me. The events are not deleted, but filtered in the standard calendar view. The iPhone shows everything as it should. Outlook 2003 has all the events to as seen when going to categories view.
It seems that once events pass on the iPhone and then a sync via iTunes to Outlook 2003 the "All Day Event" field is removed from the calendar entry.
Creating another Day/Week/Month View in outlook 2003 that has a filter to only include calendar entries where the "All Day Event" field "does not exist" will allow viewing the "hidden" past events.
Hopefully this will be fixed VERY SOON.

Please provide me the JAVA API to update a particular event from the recursive pattern. see i have done with the creating ICAL event daily/recursive into the outlook calendar using java and it is working fine. Now i want to update particular event from the recursive pattern.Actually i have built the java api which looks like out calendar and which displays the created events as like as outlook calendar - Also i have provided the button i.e. Email ICAL - when user clicks on this button then the ICAL formatted email goes to the end user account. Now from my application i want to update particular event from the series.

Now, there is a difference. What I expected it to do was to completely remove the VALARM.
Perhaps I should mail this to Apple for a fix?

Create quick event fails to recognize date and time

When I use "Create Quick Event" and enter "June 29 9am debate", iCal creates an event today, now, named "June 29 9am debate". I have tried different variations like "29th of June at 9am" etc. but all failed - I always get an event today, now.
I am pretty sure Create Quick Event used to extract date and time from the box: it created an event named "Debate" on the date of June 29, starting at 9am, lasting one hour - what could be the reason it doesn't work any longer? And more importantly, how could I get back the old behavior?

Make sure location is set correctly
DNS should be set to auto (settings - general - network)
If on wifi try ethernet
Ensure rputer has port 123 open (refer to manual if unsure)

Sending iCal invitations using iPhone?

Hello, how do I invite people to an event using iCal within my iPhone?
I don't see this function.
I do see that if I create an event using iCal on my Macbook, I will then see the invitees within the event in iCal on my iPhone.
But I see no way to add invitees to an event directly from iCal on my iPhone.
Am I missing something?

iCal uses your address book to pick which email address to send from.
To change this, go into your vcard in your AB and make whatever email address you want ical to send invitations from the top email address in your list.
