CreateOUIProcess(): -1 : argument list too long

Hi,
I tried to install 8i on Mandrake 6.1.
When I call "./runInstaller" I get :
Initializing Java Virtual Machine from /usr/local/jre/bin/jre.
Please wait ...
Error in CreateOUIProcess(): -1 :
Die Argumentliste ist zu lang
(meaning: argument list is too long)
Any suggestions ?
TIA,
Joerg

I get the same message with Mandrake 6.1.
But I had no problem installing Oracle 8.1.5 std under Mandrake
6.0.
My guess is that Mandrake made some small change that broke the
installation script.

How large is ARG_MAX in /usr/src/linux/include/linux/limits.h and
    MAX_ARG_PAGES in ./include/linux/binfmts.h? On my system (RH6),
    ARG_MAX is 128K and MAX_ARG_PAGES is 32 (4K pages). The argument
lists used by the Oracle installer for its subprocesses are
    pretty long!

  • Universal Installer CreateOUI :argument list too long

I am running RH6.1 using KDE and JRE117_v3.
Each time I try to start the installer I

    Thanks PB

    I found the answer.
    It's a bash-related problem.
It's making a list of all that files, and this is too big.
    If I change my command:
    jar -cfi ../blues.jar .
the directory is visited file by file and there's no problem about 40.000 files (it only takes 20 minutes :)

  • Argument list too long

I got a directory of about 40.000 files.
I'd like to abuse jar for archiving those files because
    a) I'm used to the syntax of jar
    b) I thought that enabling indexing, the search for a single file could be very fast.
    I said:
    > jar -cfi ../blues.jar *
    and I got:
    > jar: Argument list too long
I got this error on linux, using jar of jdk-1.4.2-beta.
Is this a problem only of the linux-jar?
I started to test this out on an windows pc, but hadn't the time to finish the test, but it looked, as if it would work, because it didn't fail for the first 20 Minutes :).
(It fails nearly immideately on linux).
Is this an error of jar, or of bash?
Would it work, if I create a shell-script, which adds the files one by one?
Will an index really speed up the search for a single file?
It seems to me, as if only directorys are mentioned in the index-file?
Is there a well defined maximum of files that can be put into a jar file?

  • Cp leads to  "error processing extended attributes: Argument list too long"

With certain PDF files to which I've added a lot of extended attributes (using Skim.app, a PDF reader/annotator which stores its notes in extended attributes), Chronosync and Finder drag-drops don't preserve extended attributes like they're supposed to (i.e. the notes aren't viewable on copies of the document). When I use cp to do they copying, the following message appears in system.log:
error processing extended attributes: Argument list too long
    Googling it returns no results

    Hi Derick,
error processing extended attributes: Argument list too long
I have no idea why you get this error when copying a file...
There is a max size for each extended attribute (about 3800bytes), and if I try to create (by using a simple C program) an attribute larger than this limit then I get "Argument list too long" error. But in your case you are trying to make a copy of an existing PDF file whose extended attributes should be smaller than the limit, of course (Skim has no magical power of creating an attribute larger than the limit; if the note is too large then I guess Skim just splits the note into two or more attributes).
Q1: do you get the error only if you (try to) copy a PDF file with large notes? or you also get the error for a file with only small notes? How about a PDF file with many small notes?
Q2: are you copying the PDF file to external volumes? If so, are you sure it is HFS+? What happens if you copy the PDF file to the same internal disk volume, for example
    cp your.pdf tmp.pdf

  • 5.5.4 RCPT TO argument is too long

I creaed a new address book list of 48 names and I want to send an email to this list.  I put myself in the TO: field and the name of the list in the BCC: field.  I've done this many times with other address book lists and have not had a problem.  But I am getting an error dialog:
An error occurred while sending mail.  The mail server responded:
5.5.4 RCPT TO argument is too long.  Please check the message recipient ", [email protected]..
    .........." and try again
with about 12 lines of addresses specified there.  Somehow maybe it thinks one of the 48 email address is super-long, but I've checked all the email addresses and they all seem to be fine.  I think you're allowed up to 50 addresses in a list specified in the BCC field.  Any thoughts?

  • Buildall.sh env: javac: Arg list too long

Hi, Having trouble building dbxml in SmartOS (opensolaris).
While building Berkeley DB for Java in a long javac command, the script breaks with error:
env: javac: Arg list too long
    make: *** [db.jar] Error 126
    $ getconf ARG_MAX
    1048320
returns a fairly high number - I built the same on FreeBSD with a much smaller number.
Any suggestions on how to get this built and what is causing the problem?
    Thanks in advance!

    WORK AROUND:
    cd ./dbxml-2.5.16/db-4.8.26/build_unix
create file dbsrcs.txt that lists all the java source files listed in the JAVA_DBSRCS environment variable
    it should look like this:
    ../dist/../java/src/com/sleepycat/util/ErrorBuffer.java
    ../dist/../java/src/com/sleepycat/util/ExceptionWrapper.java
    ../dist/../java/src/com/sleepycat/util/ExceptionUnwrapper.java
    ../dist/../java/src/com/sleepycat/util/PackedInteger.java
    ../dist/../java/src/com/sleepycat/util/keyrange/KeyRange.java
save dbsrcs.txt file inside dbxml-2.5.16/db-4.8.26/build_unix directory
    # nano Makefile
    find line:
      $(JAVAC) -d $(JAVA_CLASSTOP) $(JAVACFLAGS) $(JAVA_DBSRCS)
    and replace with
      $(JAVAC) -d $(JAVA_CLASSTOP) $(JAVACFLAGS) @dbsrcs.txt
while inside the dbxml-2.5.16/db-4.8.26/build_unix directory, run make, to just compile Berkeley DB only
once completed, go back to dbxml-2.5.16 and run
    ./buildall.sh --enable-java
since Berkeley DB was already built, the build script will see this and skip the Berkeley DB compile since it's already compiled!

  • Artists/albums/songs list too long!  Shortcut?

    Hi,
I've got so many artists in my iPod's list, it takes me far too long to find songs. Not so bad when you're walking around, but terrible when I'm in the car with the iTrip and I'm trying to find a song!
Is there any way I can break the Artists/Albums/Songs lists down into like.. A-K, L-Z? Or jump to a particular letter faster than 1 line at a time? I have looked in the settings but I can't find anything relevant.
If this isn't possible, maybe it would be a good idea for a future iPod feature?
    Thanks!

It isn't about how many tunes - rather the size of the files.
Look at the bottom of the iTunes window when viewing a playlist - it will show you number of tunes, time of playlist and the size of the entire playlist.

  • Keyword list too long

since iphoto version 8.0.2 up to the current version 9.1.5 I have one problem: my keyword list is too long. so clicking on "search" and then on "keyword" opens a list of four collumns and way too much rows for my display. so all keywords beginning with "a" until "k" are not visible and subsequently not choosable for search.
how can I search the first part of my keywords from "a" to "k" when the list is too long to be completely displayed?
PS: in the first iphoto-versions I bypassed the problem by using "keyword-manager" (bullstorm.se) but since the newest version, it is no longer compatible...

    You can't, unfortunately.
IPhoto menu -> Provide iPhoto Feedback
Of course, you can still search using Smart Albums.

  • .ICC / Printing Profiles List TOO LONG!

I am using CS5. When I print and I have to change to a different printer I am fed up with wading through 200 different ICC profiles just to pick one of the 3 I use at work everyday. I have tried moving my unused profiles to a new location out of the ColorSync folder (Mac OS10.6) to no avail. It also seems to me that not all the profiles listed in the ps print dialogue are located in either ColorSync folders (user and main).
Can anyone tell me where photoshop gets this list from?
Can anyone inform me on how to get rid of the LONG list of profiles and keep only those 3 that i use?
I cannot find a solution anywhere, and my experimenting does not work either.

It's a bummer that can't get rid of all these profiles. It's obnoxious!
My only solution, all be it half-assed, was I used the ColorSync Utility to rename the profiles with a number in front of it. Open the profile, under "1. 'desc' I edited the name with a 1, 2, or 3 and saved. This helps in organizing somewhat, but they are still appearing way down on the list.
For people that have to change to different printers daily in photoshop, this is something that should be addressed.
Thank you for your replies. any other solutions or ideas are welcome.

  • Rules List Too Long and Runs off the Bottom of the Screen

... this means the Cancel, OK and folder selector are all missing. I have a large screen and even though I've added many into a list still it runs out of view and off the screen...
Any ideas how to limit the height?

I had this problem too. The only workaround I found was to limit the number of entries per rule. That means I have several rules that are divided Part 1, Part 2, etc.
Would love to know if there is a better workaround, but I haven't found it yet.

  • Source list too long!

    hey peeps,
i want to remove the podcasts, radio, music store and purchased music items from my source list and be able to access them from menus or preferences.
i only have the choice to disable party shuffle and video.
    any suggestions?
    thanks for reading,
    hamdog

Podcasts and purchased music will always be available through the library. Using the Search Bar (Shift-Command-B), you can limit the view to Music, Podcasts, Videos, etc.
You can make radio stations appear in the library by dragging them from the iTunes radio playlist to the Library, but then you would have to sort on the Kind column or create a smart playlist to keep track of them.
You can always gain access to the music store through either the mini-store which can be toggled using the right-most button in the lower right-hand corner of iTunes or by Option-Clicking on the gray arrow beside any track, artist or album.
You can hide more of the default playlists by going to the Parental section in iTunes' preferences.
Also, you don't have to scroll to locate playlists not visible on the screen. Click on the Source column header and start typing. iTunes will jump to that playlist or the closest match (this trick works in all of the iTunes windows).

  • Dreamweaver cs6 site selection list too long

I just noticed today that my site selection list in the file tab group was extending past the bottom of my screen, and I was not able to select one of the sites near the bottom of the list.  When I hook up to dual monitors, and move dreamweaver to the second screen it does not extend past the bottom of the display, and I'm able to choose the ones near the bottom of the list.
Has anyone else seen this problem, and is there a work around for it?  I'm working off of a laptop, and the dual monitor is not always an option for me.
