Creatiing curves layer in Photoshop CS2

Anyone know the applescript command(s) for creating a curves layer in Photoshop? I can create a layer but not a curves layer with the following:

Photoshop CS2 Layer Styles / Blending Options stopped working

I'm running Photoshop CS2 on PC. When right clicking on layers to bring up the Layer Styles / Blending Options palette, I can get the palette okay but the selections won't work when I check the boxes.
I try to select different options....drop shadow, inner shadow, etc. but nothing shows up. It's not a preview problem because the changes are not visible in my image even after I select OK.
I've reset my preferences (alt+ctl+shift) but it didn't help.
Can anyone suggest to me what I can do to wake up this palette?? I've got work pending and my online searches have left me empty handed.

John: The file is PSD, RGB mode, 300dpi. Last night, I tried the layer styles in another file and it wouldn't' work.... another NEW file. Today, I opened an existing file that had layers styles already in effect and I can see them, I can click them on/off AND I can put layer styles onto other layers in the existing files that did not have them previously. I just tried creating a new file and, of course, the layer styles now work in the NEW file.... this is something I tried last night and it didn't work at that time.
Ed: Yes, I'm on the right layer. I've tried it on several layers, none of which are transparent. Thanks for the heads up.
So, this tells me it's something to do with this particular image file. I must've accidentally hit something that's put it into a strange mode. Last night, out of frustration, I just gave up, shut it all down, and turned the computer off. This morning, I went in and created a new image document and then one by one I copied and pasted the layers of my malfunctioning image into the new one. Now I can get the layers to work.
I have no idea what was wrong, but it seems I should just trash the problematic file and start fresh. At least the individual layers were not compressed and it's still salvagable.

Command-clicking layer name does not load layer as a selection (Photoshop CS2)

Q: Why does Cmd-clicking a layer name not load the layer as a selection in Photoshop CS2?
A: You must Cmd-click the layer thumbnail, not the layer name, to load the the layer as a selection.
In Photoshop CS2 Cmd-clicking the layer name in the Layers Palette selects the layer. To select multiple layers use the following keystrokes:
1. Multiple contiguous layers = Shift+click layer name
2. Multiple non-contiguous layers = Cmd+click layer name

It works for me and doesn't seem to care what tool i have selected or anything like that to make a difference. Maybe you should reset your preferences as it may be a glitch.
Hold Ctrl+Alt+Shift as soon as you tell photoshop to startup, and it will ask you if you want to delete the preferences, just click yes. (If you have a custom UI that you want to save, goto Windows>Workspace>Save Workspace, and then just reload it after resetting prefs.)

Photoshop CS2 Create Layer from Layer Style workaround?

In newer versions of Photoshop I have created a layer from a layer style so I could edit the layer style directly . Any way to do this in CS2? Workaround or equivalent?

You can do the same thing in photoshop cs2
Layer>Layer Style>Create Layers
Or right click on the fx to the right of the layer thumbnail that has the layer style for the same options

Photoshop CS2 and Windows Vista 64 bit

I have just loaded Photoshop CS2 onto my new laptop which has Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit as its OS.
All working well except I notice that,when I made adjustments to a layer (for example,using curves to colour adjust,or even just brighten midtones),it takes a long time for any change to take place to the values of colour sample points which I may have applied to the background layer.
I usually place four colour sample points on my background image to monitor changes as I make adjustments. When I used Photoshop CS2 on my previous laptop which had Windows XP as its OS,changes were instant.
I have the cache level set at 6 in Preferences with 70% available RAM set.
Any help would be much appreciated.

A couple more ideas:
Make sure CS2 is fully updated. In Vista, turn the Aero interface on and off to see if it makes a difference.
Try the old standby of resetting preferences, as described in the FAQ.

You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.
This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.
A complete uninstall/re-install will not affect the preferences and a corrupt file there may be causing the problem.

Photoshop CS2 won't save files in JPEG format

I have Windows Vista and am using Photoshop CS2 Version 9.
Until today everything was working fine, but there are two problems.
1. Only today I have a limited amount of formats to save a .PSD file in:
PSD, CIN, PDF, RAW, PNG, and TIFF.
Whereas if I want to save a JPEG file per say as another format, I get the full list to choose from.
2. If I choose a layer on an image, not all the filters show up that I can run it through. The 'Artistic, Brush Strokes, Pixelate, Sketch, and Stylize' are not clickable.

You slipped into 16 bit mode. Try going back to 8 bit.

Raw Beginner need help with Adobe Photoshop CS2

I am reading Photoshop CS2 for digital photographers by Scott Kelby. I am looking at pg 55 if any one has this book and would like to visually see what I am about to describe. I own Adobe Photoshop CS2 software. After bringing up Adobe bride RAW on my PC, I then see all the settings, Exposure, Shadows, Brightness, Contrast, and Saturation.. Located directly above all of these settings is Auto and Default which you can click on and adjust all settings at the same time. If you don't like what you see you click on Default to go back to the original, you can then make your adjustments individually. In my CS2 book there is an Auto box you can check or un-check beside each setting, Exposure, Shadows, Brightness, and Contrast. My question is how do I get the Auto box beside each setting so I can simply put a check in that box and preview changes individually instead of the Auto and Default on top which changes every setting at the same time? I hope this make since to you, if not I will try to explain again.

Thank you Ramon for your help. I will just be happy with what I have, which works fine but I thought it might be better for me to have the individual Auto check box for each setting. Thank you for the tip to double-click the sliders to reset it to default, it works in CS2 also:) Actually this gives me more control and works out great now that I think about it. I am sure there are more handy little tips I should know about but don't because I am a beginner in learning RAW. Hopefully I'll stumble across a book or some thing over the internet that will help me with my learning curve.

Photoshop cs2 crashed when saving

If I open a file or create a file that has mora than one layer or a photograph and I try the "save as" command, photoshop quits!!!!!! I have no idea how to fix this!

How long is it since you Repaired Permissions; ran Cocktail; and, most importantly, ran DiskWarrior?

Photoshop CS2 on Mac OS 10.5.8

Can photoshop CS2 work on a Mac with OS 10.5.8 installed? If not which versions work?

It may or may not work. CS and CS2 are not supported in Leopard. If its an Intel Mac CS2 must run in emulation mode(Rosetta) this can add another layer of problems. CS3 and CS4 are both supported in Leopard and on Intel Macs.
Adobe no longer sells CS3.

Many problems with Photoshop CS2

Hi,
I noticed many failure on CS2 softwares, i didnt upgrade to CS3 and iam wondering if it it worth the investment looking how much messy CS2s is to my projects so far. I thought they brought in CS2 to solves the many glitches in CS, but...
1 - Illustrator CS2 doesnt not export to gif. I am working on an e-commerce project having to customize hundreds of gif pictures. I am more fluent with Illustrator than Photoshop plus the many vector tools makes it more useful for this kind of project.
- This forces me to try some complicated workflow where i do the design first in illustrtor then export to .psd so i can simply save out as gifs. This is where i found many other problems:
2- When i open these psd that took so many hours to design, i found out photoshop interprets everything poorly. It messed up all the dimensions and sizes.
3- I set document sizes in Illustrator to small sizes even if i imported in a large picture that i use as background (moving and rotating that background allows me to create many variations of my background keeping the same tone), but the exported psd didnt respect the doc settings and instead of cropping brings in the entire file resolution.
4- I dunno if any of you guys have tried to do anything like selecting many layers and rescale them in photoshop? Or simply select a text layer and resize it in photoshop? really painy. Such a breeze in other applications like flash or illustrtor appear so heavy in photoshop, i ended up losing all the harmony of my works, if not my sanity.
Please if someones have ever gone thru all these nightmares before can you explain me how you found way around it would be very nice and helpful.

PS: Had same problem trying to open some design i did and sliced in Fireworks 8 too, when opened in photoshop CS2 everything where 3 times bigger!

Photoshop CS2 Not Enough RAM error message (wrong forum)

For some strange reason, my copy of Photoshop CS2 (macintosh) has started giving me an error message after program start up: could not complete your request because there is not enough RAM. I don't have to do anything. This message pops up about 1 minute after I start the program. The program works fine. I just close the window and go on. I haven't installed any new plug ins or changes to my prefs or hardware configuration. This just started for no apparent reason. It doesnt't refuse to work, it's just annoying. I've tried deleting the Photoshop prefs file and reinstalling the program from the master disc. Didn't help. I'm running OS 10.4.2 on a dual 1.8 gz processor mac with 4 gigs of RAM; Photoshop set to retain 60% of that. Anyone with any ideas about this, or should I just quit whining and go back to work...

Can you tell us which API is failing (error code) and what amount of memory you are requesting? I've seen 'not enough ram' when the entrypoint gets messed up and you actually have a Pipl problem. Moving a layer in Photoshop CS5 using Applescript

I have a layer in a document called "logo" and i want to duplicate it to every open document and then move it to a specific spot in each document
I got the duplicating thing happening but cant seem to move the bounds of the layer (says it is read only and cannot be changed)
here is what I have written

anyone know what the language is to move the layer around?

In any language the way to move a layer x,y is to use translate… You will need to do the math from current x,y to required x,y given a distance… A read only property is just that regardless of language… Here is a quick example of how I did this kind of thing using Applescript… I still do the same method now but use the ESTK instead…

You should get the general idea of how this works from this. It should move the first layer across 1 inch, down i inch then put it top/left. It assumes you have a layer that is not a background layer nor is it locked in any way…

Recreating merged curves layer by guesswork

Hi folks, I have a picture I once added a curves adjustment layer to. Unfortunatley I don't have the .psd anymore, only a composite .png (the final image) and the source image.
I tried to recreate the curves adjustment layer on top of the source image and compare it to the final image, but I don't get anywhere close to it. I must say though, that generally speaking I have decent curves skills I would say, I intuitively know how they react and affect the output. But the curves layer I used back then involved independent R,G and B curves plus a RGB curve, with about 3 to 4 control points each.
So intuition and guesswork didn't get me anywhere, that's why I was wondering if there was something like a more strategic method defined by rules which would inevitably lead to the correct result if followed correctly ?
If not, is there a different way of recreating the final image from the source image?

If its just one curve, you can probably do it. But all three, plus a master adjustment might prove too much if the change were drastic. Still worth a go. Even if you just place the 4 color samplers in quarter tones, you might have some luck.
As I said above, it doesn't matter whether it's 1 or 3 curves, because
the RGB channels are treated independently (both by color picker and the
curves layer). The master adjustment is more problematic, right,
but theoretically it shouldn't be a problem either, because two curves
can be "merged" ... well, not in Photoshop (I might suggest that as a
feature one day), but mathematically.
Curves are functions. Take an easy function like f(x) = 1.5*x + 2x
this equates to: f(x) = 1.75 * x
(where x = input and f(x) = output in Photoshop curves adjustment)
I have started working with this method and so far it looks promising,
