Creating File objects from all files in a folder.

Hi, I'm not too brilliant of a programmer, so this may be an obvious one that I could find in the API.
My goal is to compare files for similarities and then give some output, that's not too important.
My question is: How do I create an array of File objects from a folder of *.txt files, without creating each individually? Is there a way to simply get all the files from the folder?
File I/O is still pretty new to me. If I didn't give a good enough explanation, please say so.
Thank you very much!

Note by the way that a File represents an abstract pathname, the idea of a file as a location. It doesn't specify the file's contents, nor does it require that the file it represents actually exists. A better name might be "theoretical file" or "directory listing entry".
So getting a whole bunch of File objects is itself perhaps not necessary (although it could be useful).
To expand on reply #1, look for File methods whose names start with "list".

  • Create Class objects from an Array of File Objects

    Hi There,
    I'm having extreme difficulty in trying to convert an array of file objects to Class objects. My problem is as follows: I'm using Jfilechooser to select a directory and get an array of files of which are all .class files. I want to create Class objects from these .class files. Therefore, i can extract all the constructor, method and field information. I eventually want this class information to display in a JTree. Very similar to the explorer used in Netbeans. I've already created some code below, but it seems to be throwing a NoSuchMethodError exception. Can anyone please help??

  • Can't see objects from all db schemas in AV when creating a FGA Policy

    Hi all,
    I have installed Audit Vault successfully but when I try to create a FGA policy, in the Object field the objects from certain schemas don't appear in the list. I tried to verify if the user that the Agent uses to connect to the source database can see objects from all the schemas, so I connected to the source database trough SQL*Plus with this user and did a select on the table ALL_OBJECTS and could see all the objects.
    Does anyone know if this could be a product bug? I have installed the version 10.2.3.2.
    Any help will appreciated. Thanks!

    Is there an existing AV protection on any of the objects, perhaps related to IP, program, etc.?

  • Can you create an object from a string

    I have been working on creating a dynamic form, creating the
    form items from an xml file. I am getting very close to conquering
    this task. I will share it when it's complete.
    However, I am stuck at the moment trying to create an object
    from a string. For example, if the xml item is an HBox I want to
    create an HBox. Like this: parentObject = new arrayOfFormItems[
    index ]..type ()
    This isn't working. First, is this possible using some syntax
    I am unaware of in Flex? I don't want to use a large if or case
    statement if possible.
    Thanks in advance for your help!

    Thank you very much. Indeed that did solve the one problem. I
    missed the casting as a Display Object. That is awesome!
    I do still however, have to instantiate one of every item I
    want to dynamically create or I get the following error when I try
    to create a dynamic object that I have not instantiated before.
    ReferenceError: Error #1065: Variable HBox is not defined.

    at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEvent()
    at flash.net::URLLoader/flash.net:URLLoader::onComplete()
    I read that you have no choice but to instantiate one of each
    type to force the linker to link the code for that class into the
    .swf. Unless you know another way to force it.
    This is what I have in my Application mxml to get it to work:
    <mx:HBox>
    <mx:Text visible="false"/>
    <mx:TextArea visible="false"/>
    <mx:TextInput visible="false"/>
    <mx:DateField visible="false"/>
    </mx:HBox>
    And those are the types I'm using to test with. . . I will
    have to add all the others I want to use as well . . .

  • How do I create an object from a filename?

    I'm traversing directories and storing a list of files in a File array. Then I traverse the array looking at the extension of the file. If it is .java then I would like to instantiate it as a class so that I may pass the new object to another function which will examine its methods. I've tried Class.forName(file.getCanonicalPath()) and it throws a ClassNotFound exception. How can I create an object from a valid filename, please?

    Rick_Avlonitis wrote:
    If it is .java then I would like to </snip>.java files contain source code, they can't be "instantiated". Class.forName() takes a classname as parameter, i.e. "mypackage.MyClass". A class name is not a file name, and it doesn't have an extension. As stated in the other reply, you'll need to have the class on your class path.

  • Possible to create an object from a String?

    Hi,
    is is somehow at all possible to create an object from a String ?
    If we have etc.
    String txt = "Carrot()";
    Is it then possible to somehow cast that String and interpret it as a class type that it should make an object of ?
    Like
    new txt; - would then give me the same as new Carrot(); ?
    Hope you understand what i mean.

    Class.forName("some.package.Carrot");

  • How to create file in specific folder...

    Hi developers,
    I am new to java. I would like to create file in some folder. But i am fail to create it. Can any body help me please..
    This is my code. It creates folder well...But file doesn't create.
    import java.io.*;
    public class file1
         public static void main(String ar[])
              File f = new File("c:\\ram");
              f.mkdirs();
              String pat = f.getAbsolutePath();
              File ffs = new File("c:\\ram.txt");
              System.out.println(pat);
    }With Regards
    sure...:)-

    Also, it's not clear where you want the file.
    You're making a directory C :\ram, but then you're talking about a file ram.txt that's right in C:
    Also, you can use / instead of doubling up the \ and it wil get converted properly.
    If I wanted to create a file C:\ram\ram.txt I'd do this:
    File parentDir = new File("C:/ram");
    File file = new File(parentDir, "ram.txt");
    parentDir.mkdirs();
    file.createNewFile();

  • Hide a library object from all but selected users

    Perhaps I just missed this in the documentation, but is there a way to hide
    a library object from all but selected users who will have access to the
    docs in that library. I know I can uncheck access rights and assign them
    only for selected users who can access the documents, but I would like to
    hide the ibrary object as well, best that only those who have access even
    know the library exisits in this case. Thanks.

    How do you give this support? This is a real issue with us as we
    generate information that affects the price and "tradeability" of public
    companies.
    If it's only moral support -- you got it.
    If you have to "vote" on these issues -- how?

  • How to create an object alive all the time on a server side

    Hi,
    I work on an Intranet with J2EE technologies. I need an object to do several tasks in background on the server side. Like start scheduled processes on a database and files, stocked on the server. What is the way to do this. I thought to use the JNDI by declaring the object in the Deployement Descriptor, and to manage a timer within.
    I don't know if this works.
    Anyway, my question is how to create an object on the server that is ALIVE ALL THE TIME and visible by the other objects running in the same VM.
    Thank's.

    This may not be the correct design, but I had success doing the following:
    1. Create an Stateless EJB that does a task, i.e. update a database table.
    2. Create a subclass of java.util.TimerTask to call the EJB methods.
    3. Kick off the TimerTask from a servlet.init method.
    Seems to work pretty well to do scheduled tasks, such as refreshing lookup tables. I would imagine the same could be done with an MBean, but I haven't had time to fully understand JMX yet. (It's on the list).
    As for event driven procedures, that can be done through a servlet interface.
    You may also wish to review a scheduler here: http://www.part.net/quartz.html. Note, I have NOT even looked at it yet, so I have no clue if it's any good. But, it is on my list of tools to evaluate (that's a long list) someday when my head's above water. Have a look, and caveat emptor.
    Hope this helps,
    Perry Tew

    Hi All,
    From enterprise portal i am calling an RFC 'BAPI_PROJECT_MAINTAIN' to create objects .
    While trying to create multiple objects simultaneously it gives error "sapuser is currently using, can't be created".
    It seems like as i am creating multiple objects by calling RFC repeatedly , while the first one is not updated fully i am sending the second value to be processed.
    Pl. tell me how to overcome this. Do I need to add any sleep time in EP or any other method is there in SAP to overcome this situation.

  • Creating file in a folder

    There doesn't seem to be any way to right-click and create a text/ open office file in a folder. At the moment, I am launching the application (e.g. Text edit), saving my document in the desktop and then drag and drop the document to the specific folder.
    Is there any easier way?
    Thanks.

    Open the AppleScript Editor in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and paste in the following:
    tell application "Finder"
    make file in (get folder of window 1)
    end tell
    Save it as an application and put it in the Dock or the Finder's toolbar. This will only work with TextEdit as written, but if you have a blank document in any format presaved elsewhere, it can be copied there.
