Creating GG service as windows manager service
Hi all,
I am trying to configure GG mgr as a window service so that mgr starts automatically as soon as windows starts but mgr service is not starting up automatically.Does anybody have any idea?
I had created globals parameter file and enter the info realted to mgr i.e
MGRSERVNAME mgr
and executed install addservice autostart
but still not able to start the windows service.
GG version: 11.2.0.1
OS:Windows-7
Open the Services applet within the Control Panel and see if you see the name of the Manager service as listed in your GLOBALS file.
Make sure that you have the mgr.prm paramater file in the OGG dirprm directory, and that you've included at least a PORT port# parameter.
Next, from the Services applet, start the Manager serivce and check that it's running.
If does start up and is running, and is set to Automatic under Startup Type in the Services applet, then it will start automatically whenever the server is started up.

Neurowm - dynamic tiling window manager based on Xmonad
Hi,
I started to write my own window manager last year so that it fits exactly my needs. The project was paused due to a lack of time but last month I could start coding again and make it stable. It was my very first step into the X protocol so I decided to use C language and Xlib rather than XCB because of the documentation. I might plan to port it to XCB in the near future though.
neurowm is a dynamic tiling window manager based on Xmonad, where you must write your own configuration using C language instead of Haskell language. If you are familiar with Xmonad, you should be able to understand the configuration easily.
Some features:
- Compile and reload the comfiguration file on the fly withour restarting X
- Support of float layout
- Support of toggled layouts
- Border width, color and gaps can be configured at window level
- Mirror, Reflect X and Reflect Y support on every layout
- Support of fixed windows on every layout
- Support if free window on every layout
- Dzen support
- Xinerama support (TODO)
- Java support (TODO)
Screenshots:
Website: https://github.com/nnoell/neurowm
There is no PKGBUILD at the moment and please, bear in mind that the window manager is under heavy development, so the configuration file might change a lot. Feel free to try it and leave some feedbacks.i enjoy all the neuromancer references (wintermute). and your avatar from the cover of the c64 game. gibson would be proud ;D
I am not really good at names, that is why I take all of them from things I love. Next one won't be from neuromancer, I promisse
the wm looks very nice in your scrots. can i make some feature suggestions based on my wm experiences?
i've recently switched from awesomewm to herbsluftwm, and really like it.
- the binary tree division makes so much sense. you split a frame, then split that frame, and so on into infinity. and all those frames are movable via key-binding as well. as opposed to pre-defined layouts in awesome (and as far as i can tell, neurowm too).
- having a command line tool that you use to dynamically set properties is amazing. border colors, gaps, displays, etc. e.g. you configure you monitor settings via a command v.s. you config file, this makes it more flexible for on the fly changes.
Yes, you are right, command line tools are very useful, I might think of adding that. Regarding the binary tree division, I think it would be good to create another "special" layout (as the floated one) with its own bindings. I think I will try herbsluftwm and compare it to Xmonad so I can get to the point.
I decided to create an Xmonad-like window manager using C language because many people don't know Haskell and GHC is quite heavy. The configuration file might be difficult to understand at first (specially if you are not familiar with C language) but if you guys have any problem, don't hesitate to contact me

Unique circumstance: SC create This takes 3 minutes and 30 seconds on one domain when
using Windows 8.1 & 2012R2. We have two domains: D1.com
and D2.D1.com. If we place a Windows 8.1 or 2012R2 VM on the D2.D1.com
domain and run the sc command to create a service using a D2.D1.com domain
account it will take 3 minutes and 30 seconds to create the service. It
will create the service successfully, but will take 3 minutes and 30
seconds. If we use the sc command to create a service using the obj=
parameter and use an account which is a member of the D1.com domain as the
parameter, the service is created immediately. Note: using a windows 8 VM
on D2.D1.com domain it does not exhibit the same behavior. Also note that
placing a Windows 8.1 VM on the D1.com domain does not exhibit the same
behavior as well. Consequently, this leads us to believe that the sc
command is timing out on the validation of the domain account and then using a
different validation method which is successful.<o:p></o:p>
Commands
used:<o:p></o:p>
sc create test binpath= C:\windows\test.exe (logged in as D2.D1.com
user) <o:p></o:p>
sc create test binpath= C:\windows\test.exe obj= D1\username password= something<o:p></o:p>Hi,
Based on my understanding, when you run sc command to create service, it takes long time, but when use sc command to delete the service, it runs fast. right? If so, the issue should be related with the command you used.
I also would like to suggest you refer to the below link to use sc to create service, we may also post in the MSDN forum:

Hi All,
I am using SCOM 2007 R2 CU4 in my environment. I want to do a service monitoring on specific agents. When i try creating this service monitor which comes under the Management pack template when i select the service which i want to monitor it does not
show all the services in the drop down.
For example - I have Windows audio service which is present on the machine, But it is not showing in the service list.
So from the services stating from "W" i see only 5 in SCOM and in services.msc in the Agent i see more than 5.
Below is the screen shot.
Can any one please help.
Gautam.75801Hi Yan Li,
So based on your above suggestion, If the services are already managed / monitored by a specific
management pack those services will not appear here in the Wizard while creating this type of a Management pack object alert right ?
If that is the case why does not the same reflect here in the operations console in the Services monitor
TAB ?

Desktop Window Manager Service on Windows 7 Starter - Any Reason to Leave It Running?
Hello everyone,
-As per title, I'd like to know whether is it better to turn off Desktop Window Manager Session Manager (UxSms) service on Windows 7 Starter - or not. I mean changing the service's default startup type from Automatic to Manual (or Disabled).
-In Windows 7 Starter, the Aero theme and desktop composition are not available at all (not even a basic/partial one), so letting Desktop Window Manager (DWM.exe) to continuously run is useless as it does absolutely nothing. Is my deduction correct?
-All opinions and suggestions are welcomed, thank you very much.
Regards,
-Musafir_86.Please read the information posted @

Desktop Window Manager
The desktop composition feature, introduced in Windows Vista, fundamentally changed the way applications display pixels on the screen. When desktop composition is enabled, individual windows no longer draw directly to the screen or primary display
device as they did in previous versions of Windows. Instead, their drawing is redirected to off-screen surfaces in video memory, which are then rendered into a desktop image and presented on the display.
Desktop composition is performed by the Desktop Window Manager (DWM). Through desktop composition, DWM enables visual effects on the desktop
as well as various features such as glass window frames, 3-D window transition animations, Windows Flip and Windows Flip3D, and high resolution support.
The Desktop Window Manager runs as a Windows service. It can be enabled and disabled through the Administrative Tools Control Panel item, under Services, as Desktop Window Manager Session Manager.
Many of the DWM features can be controlled or accessed by an application through the DWM APIs. The following documentation describes the features and requirements of the DWM APIs.

How to create restore point in windows server 2008 service pack1
hi i am bhaskar ... how to create restore point in windows server 2008 service pack1 and how to restore system from a restore point in windows server 2008 service pack1.. is this option available or not ? what is the difference between shadow copies and
restore point ? instead of restore point we have this shadow copies option in windows server 2008 ?BhaskarAFIK, Restore Points doesn’t exist in Windows 2008.
Volume Shadow Copy option can be used to achieve:
Creating consistent backups of open files and applications
Creating shadow copies for shared folders
Creating transportable shadow copies using a hardware provider — for backup, testing and data mining scenarios
Quickly recovering and restoring files and data
It is more like a file, data, application backup.

Unable to create a Service to the windows Services
Hi All,
Im trying to create a Windows service as below:
D:\VM's\TWiki-VM>sc create TWikiVM binPath="C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Workstation\vmrun.exe" -T ws start D:\vm's\TWiki-VM\Twiki-6.0.vmx
But i dont get the service created. I get the below message again & again as below:
Creates a service entry in the registry and Service Database.
SYNTAX:
sc create [service name] [binPath= ] <option1> <option2>...
CREATE OPTIONS:
NOTE: The option name includes the equal sign.
type= <own|share|interact|kernel|filesys|rec>
(default = own)
start= <boot|system|auto|demand|disabled>
(default = demand)
error= <normal|severe|critical|ignore>
(default = normal)
binPath= <BinaryPathName>
group= <LoadOrderGroup>
tag= <yes|no>
depend= <Dependencies(separated by / (forward slash))>
obj= <AccountName|ObjectName>
(default = LocalSystem)
DisplayName= <display name>
password= <password>
I have also tried mentioning all the options, but still the same. Please find the snapshot below:
Kindly advice.
Regards, Alan.Hi Alan,
I'm guessing that -T is a parameter to the vmrun.exe executable, right?
So if you type in the following instead, it should work to create the service.
#With SC
sc create TWikiVM binPath= "C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Workstation\vmrun.exe -T ws start D:\vm's\TWiki-VM\Twiki-6.0.vmx"
#With PowerShell
New-Service -BinaryPathName "C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Workstation\vmrun.exe -T ws start D:\vm's\TWiki-VM\Twiki-6.0.vmx" -Name TWikiVM
Notice the space between binPath= "" and the executable
However, note that depending on vmrun.exe's behaviour it might not work anyway when you try to start the service.
Hope this helps you!

Create New Service Session at Solution Manager = Product System missing
We have installed SAP EHP 1 for SAP Solution Manager 7.0 last year but not really use it.
We have setup in the system landscape:
Server (ecc6sbx)
Databases (MCD)
Product System (MCD) => SAP ERP
Assigned them to logical component (eg ZECC6DEV)
RFC destination for MCD was generated
SDCCN Administration at solutions manager display MCD with SDCCN status in green color.
At the satellite system MCD, SDCCN Maintenance job was created and scheduled. Initial single run was also done.
There were no issue. Connection to SDCC_OSS was fine.
Back to the SOLUTION_MANAGER transaction, we created a new solution ECC ERP - Development.
In the Solution Landscape => Solution Settings, we have assigned the Logical Component into the System Group.
However when we expand the tree, and click on the Servers folder it did not display anything.
Click on the Product Systems also did not display anything.
We have another Solution Manager which display information on those Servers and Product Systems folder for satellite system.
Going back to the Solution Manager for the Solution ECC ERP - Development, I tried to Create New Service Session for EarlyWatch Alert. When I click on the Create button, I could only see SAP EarlyWatch Alert for Solutions, there is no SAP EarlyWatch Alert for the Reference Object MCD (<installation number). I could not create a session for MCD.
Does anyone have ideas what I am missing here? I am trying to attached a document which have print screen for reference while creating this message, but there is no such function here.
Adding to link to the document file contain print screen

Edited by: Steven Foo on May 24, 2011 8:18 AMAnyway, in the solution manger how to we setup earlywatch alert for the SM SID host itself (source system)?
I have the information on the below from our solution manger
The data for this session is overdue. Data has not yet been transferred from the associated satellite system.
Go to the Service Data Control Center (transaction SDCCN) in the satellite system and check why the data has not been sent.
Typical sources of errors are:
The RFC connection for the SAP Solution Manager system is not working.
The 'Task Processor' background job, which collects the session data, has been changed.
Problems arose while data was being collected (see the detail log for the task that collects the session data).
A periodic 'SDCC Maintenance Package' task has not been scheduled to check whether your SAP Solution Manager system requests session data.
I tried to go SDCCN on the solution manager itself and look at the Maintenance Service Definitions:
I get the information:
No suitable RFC Destination found in SDCCN settings.
When I click ok I get the following
No RFC destionation to source system of service definitions available
Delete Service Definitions (radio button selected).
I did not continue and cancel it as I did not want to delete anything.
I check the Task Processor background job is running at SM host itself.
I managed to get the Maintenance Package job running. However it failed with the following
Error refreshing service definitions from destination SM_SSMCLNT001_BACK
Source and target system may not be identical SSM
The source and target system is the same ==> SSM, will this be an issue? -

Besides teh fact the Vista Home Basic is NOT supported for 10g, did you check whats the setting of UAC in your system? You may want to right click to the oradim command and make it run as Administrator.

We use a user-visible service object to manage the positioning and
cascading of our client windows, whether modal or not. Before each
window performs an Open(), it registers it's reference and title
with the SO. If there are other active windows of the same type,
the title is modified to include a colon and count number, as in
normal Windows applications. After the window performs the Close()
method, it de-registers itself with the SO. Whilst open, the window
can also call a method on the SO to cascade all active windows.
(Every window has a Window\Cascade menu item for this purpose.)
One of the reasons for using the SO to implement cascading, was to
enable the user to cascade only the Forte application windows. If a
non-Forte window gets in the way, you can use the Forte cascade to
bring the Forte windows in front of it again !
As an aside, the only windows that we have that are modal, are very
small input windows that don't need much in the way of behaviour.
As most of our windows are started using START TASKs, all windows
need to keep references to child windows that they have
instantiated, in order to perform orderly shutdowns, iconising and
re-opening.
Have fun !

Cannot create new Service Application in Manage Service Applications in Central Administration
Hi!
I'm having problems with a new SharePoint 2013 Enterpise installation. The issue I'm having is is that if I navigate to Manage Service Applications and click on New I get nothing in the dropdown. If I use the wizard I can create new Service applications but
not through the Manage Service Applications page. Anyone know why? The button is not greyed out and I can click it but it doesn't show any service application at all (see picture).Hi,
Based on your description, there is no service applications in the new dropdown list in SharePoint 2013.
Check things below:
Run the SharePoint products Configuration Wizard and then check if the same situation will occur.
Run Central Administration as administrator and then check the results.
According to your last post, it seems that there is something wrong about certificate.
How do you connect server through remote access? And check if it is the same situation when you create service application in SharePoint
server.
Best regards

I've installed Oracle10g XE on laptop with WinXP SP2 and I am trying to figure out how can I create a service name on my host, so that I could connect from a remote PC in my XE database. Do I need to install 10g client?
tks in advance499552,
On your laptop you will need to get into the XE web interface as an administrator (ie system) and allow access from remote clients.
To do this:
Select Administration then there is a menu item on the RHS of the window "Manage HTTP access", then select "Available from local server and remote clients" and Apply changes.
Then you should be able to access the web interface in a client browser using the URL http://yourlaptopname:8080/apex
If you need to access the database via sqlplus or other tool then you should install the 10g client on the remote PC and setup a tnsnames.ora file entry like
XE =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = yourlaptopname)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = XE)
on the client.
This assumes you have pretty much a default install and you can then connect using
sqlplus user/password@xe

How to Create Portal Service in Portal 7.3
Dear Experts,
how to create the Portal Service in Portal 7.3, as we create in Portal 7.0 by creating the Portal Project in that we create Portal Service and we can start and stop in Portal Service configuration in System Administration
Thanks,
Sagar PandeHi Sagar,
Procedure
1. Open the SAP NetWeaver Administrator by either of the following methods:
a. Use the URL to your AS Java (hostname:port) to access the AS Java home page and use the link to SAP NetWeaver Administrator.
b. Alternatively, add nwa to the AS Java URL to access SAP NetWeaver Administrator directly. (hostname:port/nwa).
2 Go to Operations Management Systems and click the Start & Stop link.
The Start & Stop: Java EE Instances window opens.
3 Click the Java EE Application bar and select the relevant application in the Application List.
The Portal Services pane displays the services associated with the selected application.

Creating a Service and Listener
I have downloaded Oracle Developer Suite 10g and when I try to log on to SQL plus using scott/tiger I get tns:protocol adapter error which i've been informed is due to the service not running. If I try using LOCALHOST as the host I get tns:no listener error.
Can anyone provide me with the info I need to create a service and listener as I don't know what protocol to use and have tried using net manager to set these up but to no avail. Also is there a default database that is provided if so what is this called and what is the SID as this is required for the service and listener. Any help would be greatly appreciated.I have downloaded Oracle Developer Suite 10g and when I try to log on to SQL plus using scott/tiger I get tns:protocol adapter error which i've been informed is due to the service not running. Creating a service material.
Hi All,
One of the user has sent a request to create a service material (Security Software). This is mainly for to improve security of the current billing cycle. I used T-Code MM01 to created the material but later on instructed to create this material using T-code AC03. What is the difference of these two t codes when we create service material. Please explain.
Thanks,
AmaHi,
Service Material: Service is an intangible material. Since services cannot be stored and regarded as non-transportable and non-stockable. Typical services are commercial services, transport services, bank and insurance services, goods from cultural organizations and the mass media, as well as services provided by the public security forces or the education and health sectors.
In case of Service ( if vendor providing to you)
To map in SAP, we do maintain Service master (AC03) and create purchase order (ME21N) to vendor mentioning Cost Object and Item Category (D).Then service receipt in ML81N, Invoice verification ( MIRO ) and payment to vendor (F-53)
In case of Material:
We do create material (MM01), Purchase order; receive goods (MIGO) physically and Invoice verification and then payment to vendor.
Note: Also Services are managed in the SAP R/3 System with DIEN material type (if you are providing service to customer)
