Creating Master Image Best Practices

Greetings!
Soon, I will be sending a master disk to a fulfillment company for mass replication.
I have already sold about 350 copies of my DVD (produced with Encore), which I burn on my computer (Alienware, Windows 7), and then package and ship to my customers.
I
I've had one guys who said it "skipped really bad", I've had a couple customers who get an "invalid or unknown file" error when they tried to play it on a DVD player, and one guy who couldn't play on a computer because of a "missing DVD decoder".
4 or 5 errors out of 350 isn't bad, but I'm wondering if there's anything I need to know, in order to make my NTSC DVD as universally viewable as possible?
I know not to exceed an 8mb/s bitrate, but other than that, is there anything I should know or do?
Thank you!
Pat

I did indeed use Taiyo-Yudens. Since I bought 500 blanks, I got a good price on solid media.
I'm mostly wondering if there's a software 'best practice' I need to follow, since my fulfillment center will be handling most of the heavy lifting with the hardware and media.
Thanks, video pros..!

  • Item Master Data Best Practice

    hello all
we are now using SBO for more than a year, and yet we still always add new items in our item master data. what is the best practice on maintaining the item master data. for you to understand this is the scenario. since in the Factory/Mill there are a lot of spare parts and equipments there, if some of this equipments is damage, we have to buy a new one, here the problem occur because if it only differ in Part Numbers we use another item code for it. with this practice, at later part we found out that we have more than 1 item code for only one item because of the naming convention. so we have to hold the other item code and use the other one coz we cant delete it anymore. sometimes 1 itemcode occurrs only once in the in the item history.
please suggest what is the best Practice on this matter.
    1. Item Grouping
    2. Naming Convention
    etc..
    NOTE:
our goal is minimize adding of items in item master data.
    FIDEL

    FIDEL,
From what I understand, you have to replace broken / damaged component of an item like Bulldozer, Payloader and mill turbines.  This is the reason why you defined the parts as a new item.
From your Item code examples, I am not clear why you have 2 different names for the same item.  and also what you mean by "this two item codes are actually the same,
If you are just buying parts to replace components and if you do not need to track them then I would suggest you create generic itemcodes in the Item master and simply change the description when you buy / sell them.
    Example:  Same Item different description.
    REPL101  OIL FILTER
    REPL101  FUEL FILTER
    REPL101  xxxxx
This way you are not going to keep creating items in the database and also you can see the description and know what it was.
Simply change the ItemName in the marketing document and instead of pressing Tab to move to the next column Press CTRL+Tab so that SAP does not auto check then ewly typed name against the item master.
Let me know if your scnenario is otherwise

  • Reason for creating New Version Best practice

    Hello SAP Gurus,
We know we are creating new version of the DIR when it is required to make a change in the original keeping in tact the Older file also for reference,
we want to know when a new version of the document is getting created how can we specify, why and what made us to create this new Version, we would like to capture this reason in SAP so the user can easily come to know why this Version is created,
can you please let us know, where actually are we capturing this details while creating the new version,
i know there are lot of free entry fields like Generic object Text field, Long text field, change the description, place the text in the WR log field of the new Version,
which is the best practice so that the user can easily come to know the reason why this new version has been created,
may be they should see this reason details in CV04N search as well, or immediately when opening the new version.
    Thanks and regards
    Kumar

    Hello Kumar
Hope following explanation will clarify your questions
We have to classify our documents broadly in two category  1) Controlled document --means which under goes various level of  / Inspection / review / approval etc with in Organisation e.g. Engg Drawing , Standard Operating Procedure for business purpose, best way for this is use Engineering Change Management (ECM)Functiuon and when you make any up versions, you can track / write key docu ment history in ECM
also when you do up version let say in Micosoft word , you can maintain simple table to track what is purpose of change, in what location you are making chnage and its justification.
For Engineering drawing of 2D /3D we can use Redlining functions to createt the Lawyers to know reviwers observation so that next version thopse are taken care
    2) Uncontrolled Document---Generally they are less significant from document Change Control point of view
    Hope this is useful

  • Use MS Account or Organization Account to create Azure Account - Best Practice?

Hi, I see that it is now possible to create Azure accounts as an org: http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/sign-up-organization/. Previously, you needed a MS Account. I also note that http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/hh531793.aspx
says “Use organizational accounts for all administrative roles”. Note the word "all" which I guess includes the main admin account itself. Is this now considered MS's best practice for organizations? I have to admit that at the moment, I can't see
what difference it really makes in practice. Any thoughts?
    TIA.

  • Creating Master Image w/MacBook Media

I have imaged computers many times in the past using Bombich's solution and now DeployStudio. Everything seems to work great. The question I have is about creating the master image. I recently had to use the media that came with our Mid 2010 MacBooks because our generic OS X 10.6 install DVDs that we received as part of AELP (an Apple education update program) will not install on the the Mid 2010 MacBooks. The hardware came out later than the generic AELP install media. This image seems to be working perfectly fine when deployed to same model MacBooks as well as previous years' MacBooks. I haven't tried it on our older Intel iMacs yet, but I will be testing that out as well. Anyway, a friend of mine insists that there likely will be some minor driver issues and even some possible networking problems when not using generic install media to create the master image (as opposed to the media that ships with a particular model). Can someone here clarify for me if this is true. Like I said, I am not having any problems with the testing I have done already. BTW... I think the Mid 2010 MacBook media includes OS X 10.6.3. Thanks in advance for any feedback anyone has to offer!

The install DVD that came with the Mid 2010 MacBooks, I believe, explicitly states that it contains 10.6.3. That is the same as the current retail copy. I know I can't install the OS contained on that DVD directly on previous models, because there is a hardware check. I am asking about using that MacBook to create a master image for mass deployment purposes (we have the licensing agreement with Apple to always update all our computers with the latest OS). Of course I also apply the latest Software Updates. I have not seen any documentation from Apple stating that the scenario I described will not work. Does anyone know where I can find this information directly from Apple. btw... I have a message into our Apple Account Executive, and he will likely put me in touch with an Apple Systems Engineer... I will update this thread if I find any information worthy to post.)
And, yes, I did know that it is not a good idea to try to install an earlier version of an OS on newer hardware. The install media should not even work, but it could be imaged with an earlier version of the OS. I would expect lots of problems when trying to do this.
And thanks, pandzorz, for the reply!

  • UITableView with Images Best Practices

I have a UITableView with each row having an image coming from a remote URL. There are a great many strategies for dealing with and caching the images. I've narrowed it down to two:
    1. When the table stops scrolling let all the visible cells know they need to grab their images. Fire off a background thread to get the images then cache them in memory.
    2. Same as above, except write the images to disk.
Has anyone played with these methods to find the breakpoint for when keeping the images in memory is too much of a burden?

I have been trying to do either.
right now i have the images download when the cell is created and then stored into an NSMutable Array. the array is initially populated with a NSString value of the url to the image. I then test to see if the object at the current TableView index is a UIIimage, If not i download the image and replace the existing NSString with the UIImage in the array.
    -(UIImage*) newUIImageWithURLString:(int)urlString
if (![[imgarr objectAtIndex:urlString] isKindOfClass: [UIImage class]])
    NSLog(@"image not there");
    UIImage *img2get = [[UIImage alloc] initWithData:[NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:[NSURL URLWithString:[imgarr objectAtIndex:urlString]]]];
    [imgarr replaceObjectAtIndex:urlString withObject:img2get];
    [img2get release];
    return [imgarr objectAtIndex:urlString];
Works fairly well but does stall the scrolling when i download the image because i am calling it like this in the cellForRowAtIndexPath.
    UIImage *cellimage = [self newUIImageWithURLString:indexPath.row];
    cell.image = cellimage;
I am looking into using a background process for the actual downloading so as not to interfere with the table operations. have you any thoughts on the best way to this?

  • Bulk imaging - Best practice ?

What is the best method to image a large number of pcs at once? Do I need
to utilize the wol feature? Should I setup a multi-cast session? Last
year, we used boot cds and did about 5 at a time. Any gotchas that I
    should consider too?
    Thanks

You're making it wayyyyyy too tough.
Get one workstation perfected. Put an image of that on your imaging server
    for posterity.
Then use that perfected workstation as the "master" in a big huge multicast
session with as many PCs as you can get ready to go before lunch. Start the
session before lunch, go to lunch, come back and reboot all of the machines.
I think my record was 20 PCs at once, and I had no problems. The only
problems I ever had was when I was imagine a "used" machine to another
machine after a hard drive failure, and the "used" PC had a ton of IE temp
files on it (should've checked that first anyway). You might get some
complaints if you have production machines on the same LAN, as every
available bit of bandwidth will be used in the multicast. And, if your PCs
can get an IP, and can ping the "master" workstation, then you should be
good to go unless you've done some really funky stuff to your routers.
Why didn't I use my ZfD imaging server? That was more difficult... albeit
just slightly. As I said, I keep it simple.

  • General Discussion - Best practice to manage Process order

    Hi Experts,
Which is the best practice to manage process orders ?
    1. Quantity Change - I can make quantity adjustment in R3 and APO.
    2. Source Change - I can make a version change from order header . Also i can make a source change in APO by selecting a different PPM. Which is the best option.
    3. Re Read Master Data - Best practice to read master data is from R3 or APO ?
I feel for all the above scenarios process ordes should always managed in R3. But still wondering why we have the same flexibility in APO too ?

    Hello,
we are just migrating from 4.6c to ECC 6.0 and I have a couple of workflows to adopt.
For background steps I defined in the corresponding BOR methods an exception to be fired when no result is available (e.g. no mail address available). Normally, I defined them as temporary errors.
I activated in the WI outcome section the line for this exception and so the workflow processed this branch when the exception appeared. It worked fine.
Now, in ECC 6.0, the same workflow get stuck in the WI. The exception is fired (I can see it in the log as "Error message"), but the WI is still in status "in process". It doesn't continue with the error outcome branch.
Is this a new logic in ECC 6.0? Do you have any idea what to do? I used this logic some dozent times in different methods and workflows and it gives me a headache if I have to change everything ...
    Thank you!
    Best regards,
    Thomas

  • Creating Image Captions: Best Practice?

    Hello-
I'm currently using RoboHelp to create an HTML-based internal user guide for a software product. This guide has many images and figures in it and each will need an accompanying caption. Each caption must appear centered directly beneath the accompanying image.
I need some guidance on two issues, please:
    1. What is the best practice for inserting a caption along with an image?  I currently cannot find any tool or which enables a RoboHelp user to insert an image into a document and designate a caption to be displayed with that image.
    2. Each image will be uniquely numbered (Figure 1, Figure 2, etc.). It may be necessary, as the document is drafted and redrafted, to remove images from and insert other images into the document. How can the numbering of images be set up so that the removal or addition of an image will automatically reset the numbering of all affected images accordingly?  I would very much like to avoid resetting dozens of image number-designations manually.
    Thank you-
    Michael

    Hi there
As far as the captions go, I would normally include the caption as part of the image itself. If you feel you must keep the text separate, I'm guessing you will need to resort to tables. One column and two rows.
As for the numbering, that one will be pretty tough. Keep in mind that in the world of HTML, people don't typically consume content in a linear fashion as they once did when all we had was print.
Someone may pop in here with some solution I've been unaware of. But presently, I'm unaware of a way to force that type of numbering.
    Cheers... Rick

  • What is the best practice for creating master pages and styles with translated text?

I format translated text all the time for my company. I want to create a set of master pages and styles for each language and then import those styles into future translated documents. That way, the formatting can be done quickly and easily.
What are the best practices for doing this? As a company this has been tried in the past, but without success. I'd like to know what other people are doing in this regard.
    Thank you!

I create a master template that is usually void of content, with the exception I define as many of the paragraph styles I believe can/will be used with examples of their use in the body of the document--a style guide for that client. When beginning a new document for that client, I import those styles from the paragraph styles panel.
Exception to this is when in a rush I begin documentation first, then begin new work. Then in the new work, I still pull in those defined paragraph and or object styles via their panels into the new work.
There are times I need new styles. If they have broader applicability than a one-off instance or publication, then I open the style template for that client and import that style(s) from the publication containing the new style(s) and create example paragraphs and usage instructions.
    Take care, Mike

  • Direct access to document image via webservice - best practice?

    Howdy,
Rookie "Post-er".... be gentle.  I've searched and I've read... didn't find this.  I've not taken training.  I may be way off base.
We have multiple manufacturing sites around the world with local Operator Qualification appls that want to access the enterprise SAP DMS mfg document images (stop dual maint - enterprise & local)....  without dependency on SAP ECC being up.  If we can pass them DMS meta-data via near-realtime msgs (including the document image access "key" data); then we would assume they can direclty access KPRO for the document image as needed.
Would this be considered a "best practice"?   Webservice controlled (access only from known source).
Is PHIO-ID the only dynamic variable needed (based on info below I found in WIKI)?
*Alternatively, the url as below can be used to retrieve the documents from the content server[*http://<Server_Name>:<Port_No>/archive.dll?get&pVersion=<Version_No>&contRep=<Content_Rep>&docId=<PHIO_ID|http://<Server_Name>:<Port_No>/archive.dll?get&pVersion=<Version_No>&contRep=<Content_Rep>&docId=<PHIO_ID|\||]>
<Server_Name> = Content server (IP address or name of content server)
<Port_No> = Port No. of the server
<Version_No> = Version No of content server (Transaction OACT)
<Content_Rep> = content category of the server (Transaction OAC0)
<PHIO_ID> = PHIO Id derived for each upload method

    Hello,
This reply posted to help others who may refer this in the future.
As Amit Maheshwari mentioned, it is possible to give access to a document stored in the Content Server even when the partner system(ECC) is down.
As per your requirement, you want to access documents when the ECC System is down, but the content server is up and running.
The following steps can be of help to you:
1 - Create a program, that will create URL for the documents stored in the content server and send the URL to the external system.(Refer: FM- SDOK_PHIO_GET_URL_FOR_GET)
The URL refers to the public IP of the Internet Server on which the content server is hosted on.
2 - With this URL and few configurations on the Content Server (to allow access from external systems) you can fetch the file from the content server to the external system. Access privileges may vary based on your security settings.
Note: Since the ECC system will be down, creating URL for all the documents can be a bottleneck.
Probable Solution: While adding a document to the ECC system, the respective URL can be created and transferred to the external system along with the master details and stored there.
This can be undertaken if it is really important for the business, as it will increase the load for the external system. The solution can be modified based on the business requirement.
    Thank you,

  • Best practice for image inserts

I am planning to create new webhelp topics and edit existing
topics in my project. Is it the best practice to place graphics
files in the same folder as the HTML input files?

I personally have always avoided the use of folders, maybe
because most of my projects were large merged projects, which
already contain multiple project "folders." Also, renaming/deleting
these beasties later on can be a bear, as evidenced by many
    angst-ridden threads in this forum.
Let RH place them in its own "virtual" Images folder and
leave it at that. Unless...do you feel lucky?
By the way, best practice (at least mine) is to name
everything (projects, topics, graphics) with no spaces, very brief,
and possibly with 2- to 3-character prefixes to more easily
identify them (possibly application features, for example). Such
as: sa_user_cfg.gif for a screenshot of the User Configuration
    window for System Administration.
    Good luck,

  • Best practice for image resolution

Although my source images files are high quality and look great in photoshop etc when they are viewed within a folio on the iPad the image quality drops. I'm using JPEG high when creating the folio but it still looks pretty blurry. It's OK, but nowhere near as sharp as i feel it could be.
There seems to be something going during the conversion process that reduces the quality.
Given that I have some nice, sharp hi-res masters, how should I be putting them in the folios to maximise image quality. I tried creating the folio at the highest quality and there was no difference. I've resaved the images at the size that they will appear in the folio.
    (*bangs head against the wall*)
    Thanks
