Creating Multi-Angle Video?

hey All,
Blu-ray and some dvds have the abilty to do multi-angle video.  I was wondering if there is anyway to create multi-angle video files for a media-less (no dvd/blu-ray) playback.  Where the user could open a video file and click a button to get to the other angle?
Any help would be appreciated or how-tos.
thanks.

ask the experts at the Quicktime board
https://discussions.apple.com/community/mac_os/quicktime?view=discussions
afair, at last the older Qtplayer app 7 offered a 'switchable' tracks/'angles' feature.
for switchable tracks on a website based video, helpful html5-gurus will explain that.
finally, FCPX doesn't - best to my knowledge - export multi track videos.
but it's 'versions'/alternatives feature
http://help.apple.com/finalcutpro/mac/10.0.6/#verbbd3587d
would allow a somewhat simple way to create a project in same 'structure' and length (to synch the diff tracks) but offering diff. shots.

  • How to export clips to be used for multi-angle video DVDs??

I've read all the posts here that I can find but I'm still coming up empty. I have three clips, one a multiangle clip and then the two source clips that went into making it. All three have the same in and out points marked and the same duration and I've gone to compressor and qued all three up before submitting, with all the same video settings. But I still can't get all three to work. Only the two source videos go together. It keeps telling me that "The Video Asset 'X' is only usable up to XXXXXX" and asks me if I want to use it anyway. If I say no, then it tells me that there was an incompatible GOP structure. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? I am this close to literally banging my head against the table in my attempts to figure this out. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

When working with multi angle or mixed angle, the alternate sequences must have the exact same GOP structure each... this means that when the encoder converts them to MPEG that 'I' frames are in exactly the same position for all three pieces.
Typically, a cut in your FCP timeline will force the encoder to place an 'I' frame, which then means that ALL the clips need to have the same cut. Additionally, ALL alternate sections need to be the same length (to the frame).
There is much debate about the differences between VBR and CBR encoding. I have had nothing but trouble with VBR and multi-angle... so use CBR. Also, I am one of the first to say don't use DVDSP to act as your encoder, however for mixed or multi-angle work it seems to produce a more reliable result in terms of GOP structure (sigh... ).
In short, use an encoder that doesn't employ scene detection , use CBR and make sure all sections are the right length.
How did you encode this footage to begin with?

  • Multi-Angle Video playback

    Hi guys,
First post here so I apologize if this has already been discussed.
I am aiming to create the effect of watching something on CCTV and being able to control which camera you view from. So what I am looking for is the ability to have a video playing in a large player in the centre of the page and 4 other smaller thumbnailed videos playing below it. When one of the smaller thumbnails is clicked it carries on playing but in the larger player above. All 5 videos need to playing constantly because they will sync with a single audio track.
Any thoughts and tips would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

I think you would be able to do the initial design and base functionality, but I think you may need to transition to Flash Builder to get the level of control you want.

  • How to create a 'functioning' Multi angle track?   - Help Please

    hi all,
i've spent almost three days working all the bugs out of a dvd with 10 multi angle tracks
(thats 10 different tracks with two different angles each).
after hours upon hours of tweaking i have it working fine in DVDSP simulator (perfect really, everything is so sweet!) only when I burn/build/format the project the multi-angle functionality is lost.
i've tried the dvds on two different players, and two different computers, even the same mac i built the DVD on and the second angle just doesn't seem to exist?
can anyone tell me if there is a setting i'm missing or... is the switching between angles something you can only do inside DVDSP simulator... some kind of bad joke on apple's part???
please please pretty please - help!!!

That's a very complex project to cut your multiangle chops on. Make a copy of the project and discard all but one of the tracks so you have something with fewer resources to juggle.
I've done dozens of multiangle projects in DVDSP over many years since the featgure became available in, I think, DVDSPv2.5 or so, maybe v3. They all have worked without any hitches so we know there's nothing wrong with the software. There are two ways you can use the option but the most reliable is to have all angles exaactly the same length, to the frame.
Assuming you have taken into account the bit rates required to hold all of your video assets on the single disk, I cannot think of anything that would disable or prevent multiangle from working since it is part of the basic DVD specification.
If the alternate angle's resources are not being burned to disk, the multiangle function will not be active. You might be able to view the processing log to see if the names of your b-roll files are being processed at all.

  • Can i create a multi audio video CD in Encore 5 (CS5.5)?

    Hi All,
I was wondering, is it possible to create a multi audio video cd in Encore 5 (CS 5.5)?
Basically i have 5 music tracks that i wish to be able to be played as normal in a CD player, but i would like to add a video to that that can be played on a PC.
I have a few commercial CD's which have this (ie when they are inserted in a PC they open additional pc content) but i have a project i need to finish which would require this.
Is it possible? And how do i go about doing it?
    Thanks in Advance :-)

You cannot do this in Encore, AFAIK - but I will have a look in case I am mistaken.
VideoCD uses MPEG encvoding but this is roughly where the similarity ends - VideoCD uses 44.1KHz audio, not 48KHz.
Commercial CD that have additional PC content are again different animals - the way these discs (which are called "CD-Extra" or "CD+") are normally created is in a multi-session CD creation tool. You create the audio content first, then when you write the disc you do not close or finalize the session but leave it open - then you go into CD-ROM mode and add the additional content, this time closing the session.
Such discs can be created quite easily in GEAR Pro Mastering Edition, or WaveLab. What OS are you running please?
You would need to prepare the content outside of the final authoring tool, and commercial CD can (and often do) use Director created content or Flash created content - the down side to Flash is that it will not work on a Mac. You can also create the videos in Quicktime Pro - simply load into it your regular full scale version, and then export for web - this will create 3 separate versions at varying quality (Smart Phone, iPhone & iPad are the references although all will work on your CD-Extra disc.
Please post back if you need more assistance

  • Multi angle help

Im having issues trying to use the multi angle and the mixed angle feature.
Is there a way to open a clip to view its GOP format.
Also when i export the chapter and compression markers form FCP I am not able to view them in DVD studio Pro.
Is there something I am missing?
any help would be greatfully appreciated
    Josiah

    just new here.
Just now I finished building a mixed angle dvd in SP4.
Simulated it in SP4 and it seemed to work.
First I got the bitrate too high error. I use 4 angles. But had a vid rate of 4.5 Mbit average + aif audio (1.5Mbit). I think the problem there was the fact that my maximum VBR was 7.8Mbit. So add 1.5Mbit to that and you're over 9Mbit. I replaced the AIF with PCM stereo and it built fine.
When trying it on a player I can't change the angles. I keep seeing the first stream in the video.
I did choose stream 1 in the disc property inspector. Might that be the cause of this?
Or is it indeed as people assume that you can't build a working mixed angle disc in Sp4?
If that's true, then I have to reinstall SP3. I have to do that anyway to get my export via quicktime out of FCP back. Because I also get the you need to serialize DVDSpro. Which I have.
I think Apple has rushed this release out a bit too quickly. Lots of little bugs with this version.
    ---- 2nd post------
Just tried rebuilding it, with the Disc property inspector Angle on not set.
    Same result.
it looks like Apple screwed up big time and it is impossible to make multi or mixed angle DVDs under SP4.
Thinking of going back to version 3 to finish this project properly.
grrrr. Not happy with Apple right now.
    ------- 3rd post-----
Just redone the exercise in the book dvd studio pro 3 (Rammseier-Sitter). I build the project, wrote it to an image (got to do that every time before burning a project, saves me screwed up discs).
Then tested the image with DVD player.
Where with my own project the other angles can't be chosen and viewed here it does work!
So it must be possible to create a multi angle dvd.
However I can't figure out the difference between that chapter 18 project assets and my project. Okay they use ntsc and I pal. In the exercise you have to export one stream yourself and I did it exactly the same with my streams.
I tried a test project with just the part of the multi angle in my original project.
Set up a similar structure and tried it. NOP. doesn't work.
This is driving me insane. How can I get this to work?
I hope this will work after reinstalling dvd sp3 or if I have the same problems.

  • Multi-angle won't work..please help!

This problem is using version 2.0.0 (sorry, I hope someone out there still remembers) and has been replicated on two seperate computers. The first is an ibook g4 1.33ghz with 512 ram...the second a dual g5 2.0 ghz with a 2 gigs of ram. The problem occurs during the build. On the g4 the problem crashes the program, on the g5 there is a internal muxer error and the build process cannot complete. I first noticed the problem with a big project that was mostly audio with slide shows...so I stripped it down to the bare essentials and the problem is still there. This is what I do: new project> import 3 aiff files (16bit/48khz) and 2 jpg images > copy the first jpg into a slide show 3 times and add one aiff to each slot > convert to track > add the second jpg into video track 2 under each of the first jpg's (the size auto-matches) > make basic menu to start playback of slideshow > simulation works fine, angle switches fine > crashes or stops on build (depending on computer using)
things i've tried that haven't worked > different jpgs, ones that have the same dimensions > fix markers in the track menu preferences > tried using my internal drive instead of external for both originating files and build files > if i delete the second video track of jpg's the build goes fine so this is definatly a multi-angle issue...I've heard of bit-rate issues with multiangle, but these are jpg's, there is no video...
    Someone PLEASE help me
    Thanks

Ok thanks for the help... I don't know how helpful it will be though... let me explain what I'm trying to do, which will explain why some of your suggestions wouldn't work. I record live concerts and I'm just trying to fit a full concert onto a dvd. I would like chapter markers at the beggining of every track, though I would like absolutly no pauses between tracks (tracks have been cut to cd sector boundries of 1/75 second, which seems to work fine on DVD even after converting from 44.1 to 48. ). I would like 2 menus ... a welcome screen and a setlist screen linked to each song. I would like the show to play in it's entirty with a bands logo on the screen (which is the first JPG) and have the second angle just black (to save tv sets from frying). If the show is 20 songs then I create a 20 slot slide show with the bands logo and the 20 songs. I then covert this to a track...as this is the only way to add an alternative angle. If I don't add 2nd angle of black, the burn goes fine, if I do then it crashes.
Now if I were to encode the jpg's to mpeg2 before adding to the project this would mean I need over 3 hours of each, cut in 20 different spots that correspond exactly to the audio.
Now the quality of the audio is very important to me so I'm not willin to use any lossy compression scheme. The whole disc is really just for listening too and is of an audiophile nature. Now I understand AC3 does a pretty good job, which is fine for movies, but for my purposes I need it to be exact. So this means I would have to fit the 3 gigs of audio along with 6 HOURS of mpeg2 video encoded from the 2 simple jpg images that take up less than a mb themselves. This is simply too much data, I can't fit it onto the DVD.
What's nice is what DVDSP is suppose to do is convert the jpg's for you and they only then take up a very small amount of room, and stay on for the full 3 hours none-the-less.
So you see any workaround that envloves making the slideshow as video in FCP beforehand won't work because I'm going for 2 angles at over 3 hours with uncompressed audio.
Now you say that DVDSP converts the jpg's to mpeg2 anyway so I figure it must just keep looping the same video over and over to save room..because there is no significant increase in size from adding the jpg. It's definatly not making a 3 hour mpeg2 file. So if I encode the jpg beforehand, say for 30 seconds...how do add it to the project in such a way that it just loops the video over and over to save room (the same way it does internally with the jpg) Keep in mind I need to make the video fit the audio tracks exactly with chapter markers inbetween. When adding jpg's to a slideshow and then converting to a track this is done automatically and when I add the second jpg to V2, the length auto-matches to the chapter markers. So it's very easy when working with still pictures ... but how do I do it so simply with a 30 second mpeg2 clip? And make sure that it's always referencing the same clip without having to add it umpteen times and thus uincrease the disc size beyond capacity.
Now as for the multiangle encoding fix ... lets say I proceed with the two jpg images as they are and let DVDSP do the encoding... I want to make sure both streams are compatible which is probably why the build hasn't been working.... I know the markers and length are good because the slideshow added them and the second jpg autosizes to them...and i have fix markers checked in track preferences. But how do I make sure that they have the same GOP structure and that they will have the same bitrate? Now the pics are very different so a different bitrate is expected. One is just black and the other is a band logo. But I tested it with identical pics in both video tracks to see if it was a compatability issue and the build still failed.
Ok so I don't neccesarily need to use jpg. The band logo is jpg but I can convert it...the black is just a slug from FCP exported as a still. What's the best format to use for what I'm trying to do? What has the best success rate for encoding? Also you mention having access to a decent encoder. For $1000 i was hoping that I was getting one in the package ... bewtween FCP, quicktime, compressor, or DVDSP ..it's rediculous that a decent encoder wouldn't be included... what would you consider a decent encoder ... and of the ones I have which one should I be using (for future projects involving video)?
I know this is a tough one, I appreciate any help that can be given.

  • Multi Angle in DVD4

Has anyone successfully used DVD4 to create a multi-angle DVD?
This is the main reason I have not upgraded from DVD3.
    Thanks!

    Timeline
Manage up to 9 video angles, 8 audio streams, and 32 subtitles per track
Add, modify, and delete chapter markers in the Timeline
Trim audio and video clips interactively or with timecode
Combine multiple video clips and slides into one track
Stills in Timeline are added to DVD as space-saving stills, not generated video
Add up to 99 tracks in a project
Import Line 21 files for Closed Captioning support, for NTSC SD projects only
    Two types of angles:
Multiple angles add another full-length segment to track
Mixed angles add only video that is different from the first video angle
Source DVD SP Specs at Apple Website
And yes, it actually works in DVDSP 4

  • Multi-angle dvd just not working out... do you have any tips?

I am making a multi angle dvd with DVDSP and compressor. I have 2 video streams that are encoded at 4.0Mbps and with AC3 audio encoded at 192Kbps. The video looks 'ok' and I want to be able to switch between these 'angles' during the movie.
The video is broken up into 5 parts of 6min each. Which are all assembled in the Track1 consecutively with the AC3 audio, then the 2nd angle video (which is also in 5 parts) is added as the angle 2 sub-track.
There is a Track2 with the exact same video, but without the switchable angles and encoded higher at 6.8Mbps (preset 60min HQ) on this same disc.
With menus, the entire size of the disc is 4.1Gb
Everytime I build this dvd, it errors out with the "Video Bitrate Too High" problem. I have dropped the AC3 audio down quite a bit as well.
I can encode everything all over again using a higher compression, but there is tons of movement in my video, and it is already starting to get blocky at 4.0Mbps.
Is there another way? Am I missing something here in making a multi angle disc? I've rented videos where there are 2-3 angles that are switchable, and they look awesome. Surely, some one can share tips in making great multi-angle discs. TIA.

    Hi There
I have created a mixed angle DVD that went to replication successfully but getting the mpegs right was very difficult. In the end I had to re-install DVDSP3 onto my system for two reasons 1) The only way my mpegs would work was if they were created thru Quicktime Mpeg Exporter which DVDSP4 removes, and 2) after I got it all working in DVDSP3 then tried to rebuild it in 4 it would not recognise my V2 or V3 angles - I didn't get any errors and it muxed ver quickly but only V1 was present. I have not been able to create a multi angle disc in DVDSP4 SD, even with mpegs that build successfully in 3.
The problem with all of Apple's encoders except QT Mpeg Exporter is that they create the occassional bitrate spike in both CBR and VBR, which will blow your encoding everytime in a mixed/multi angle project.
That said - here's how I exported my mpegs.
I made a QT movie of the complete V1 track (no cuts as Hal warned you about, they act as compression markers and force a GOP boundary) and placed it in a FCP timeline. Then added my chapter markers to the FCP timeline. Next, in a new vision track I added my mixed angle footage in the exact places where it is meant to come in and out, using the chapter markers.
Then I turned off the mixed angle footage and exported the mpeg of the entire V1 track using CBR 7Mbps closed GOP (Mpeg exporter is automatically closed GOP) and making sure that 'recognise chapters' box was ticked (can't remember exactly what its called). Once done I turned off V1 and turned on V2 then set my in and out points to the exact in and outs of each of my mixed angle tracks respectively, and exported these using the same settings.
When I dragged the mpegs into DVDSP and placed my V2 vision in I occassionally got a warning of GOP problems after a certain timecode, if this happened I only lost the last few frames of the clip which wasn't a problem in my project. Then tested and built and all was good - I then had to repeat the whole proccess again for an NTSC version which also worked.
So, there's my long winded way of solving the problem. Unfortunately if there's a better way I haven't found it and haven't read of an alternative on this forum of the Cow that has worked.
Good luck and let us know how you go.
    Cheers

  • How do create a music video with iMovies 09

    Dear Apple iMovie Form Participants,
I'd like to use iMovie to create a music video. My son and I already recorded him playing drums and singing, and me playing bass and singing into an Event in iMovies. I have saved all the video clips from this session in iMovie. I also exported the audio, so that I can import it into GarageBand, and then start Play on GarageBand, which will play through the monitor speakers in the studio, so that if I have iMovie set up beforehand, my son and I can film ourselves playing guitar and electric violin in synchronization with the drum and bass tracks that we recorded before. We would then end up with video clips that show us playing guitar and violin accompanied by the sounds of drums and bass. How do we then use the Project editor to show clips of the drum and bass + vocals playing in synchronization with the music, alternating with the clips of guitar and violin?
You could post your reply also to my regular email, which is [email protected]

    Your best bet:
Finish the entire audio recording in garage band first. Give yourself a click to start off. You can record the video lip-sync with your instruments later. Burn it to a cd and play it from a cd player so your computer can be dedicated to recording the video.
Imovie 09 does not have true multi-camera editing capabilities like Final Cut Express or Final Cut Pro, but you can get it done with a little extra patience.
Decide which video will be the main one. Shoot that one first. Put it into your project. Bring your audio from garage band back in and sync it.
Record your second, third, and fourth video shots...
Go to the iMovie>menu>preferences>general and make sure "show advanced tools is checked.
You will be using the cuttaway to put sections of your second video ontop of the main one. With your first video already in your project window, drag a few seconds of the second on top of it. A black menu will appear and select "cuttaway". It will essentially paste your second video on top of the first. Sync it by dragging back and forth. Unfortunately, with iMovie, you have to sync it by hand each time you paste a cuttaway video on top of the main one. The main one sync stays fine.
You can also choose "picture in picture" and see both videos at once.
Repeat with the third, fourth, or whatever video.
Practice so you understand the editing workflow before you spend all day trying to record your actual video. It takes someone who is patient and clever, but it will work!
Here is an example, I couldn't sync the close up shots at all (they were from a different piece), but most people can't tell. The camera panning is all done by using the "ken burns effect":

  • How do I enable "create multi-cam source sequence" option?

I am trying to create a multi-cam sequence of an interview. I have one audio file (.wav) and two different camera angles (.mov's). I highlight all three and right click, but the "Create Multi-Cam Source Sequence" option is disabled. I tried going to Clip in the menu as well. No luck. How do I enable this so I can create a multi-cam sequence?

If you are in Premiere version CS6, unselect the audio and sync your video with in or out points, timecode or clip marker. I am assuming you are prior version CC as I believe audio disables 'creating multicam source sequence'. Versions CC and beyond have the ability to sync with audio, so not sure as to why your option is greyed out.

  • How do I setup Multi Angle tracks to avoid Incompatible GOP?

I've been reading through some of the previous threads in an attempt to figure out how to set up my mult-angle tracks in FCP so I don't get the "Incompatible GOP structure" message in DVD Studio Pro. But nothing I do seems to work. Is there a way to actually do this without getting that error message?
yes, I tried making "self-contained" movie files.
My recent (partial) multi-angle project is showing the video is off by 6 frames when I line it up to the original chapter marker. I am able to slide back the multi angle tracks to line it up to the correct video frame but DVDSP will not Build the file saying that it is "missing marker for angle situation" & I cannot place a marker exactly where the encoded partial multi angle starts.

    NO...Here's a rundown:
With multi-angle tracks, all streams must be the same length. With mixed-angle tracks, all alternate streams in each mixed-angle section must be the same length.
All streams must have the same resolution and frame rate.
The length and pattern of GOPs (Group of Pictures) must be the same for all streams (angles). If you are not using the integrated MPEG encoder, use an encoder that allows you to turn scene detection off.
All GOPs should be closed. You will not be able to cleanly switch between the streams if you use open GOPs.
    Use a CBR encode

  • Multi angle?

Apple advertises that Final Cut offers Multi-Angle capabilities in Final-Cut. What do I need to edit a 4 camera concert to take advantage of this feature?

That will be useful for one of the issues I will have but that being said, the tutorial says "This tutorial will assume you know the basics of creating and editing Multiclips." Thats what I need to know, it tells me to go to the Apple Pro Training but I can't find it anywhere (And I can't afford the book).
Bassicly I need to know how to capture and edit Multiclips. (Sorry if I wasn't clear before).

P.S. There's a reason y I didn't look in the manual, and that is because I can't understand a **** thing in it, so I gave up on that route)

  • CS6 Premier Pro - Create Multi-Camera Source greyed out

    CS6 on Mac OSX 10.9
I have been following the Adobe tutorial about how to do Multi-Camera editing. Following all the steps. Somehow what my Premiere offers me is not the same the guy does in the tutorial:
    1) Put all the video & audio files in a bin in the Project tab. Tutorial says: right click the bin and you get contextual menu that offers "Create Multi-Camera Source". Nope - not getting that.
    2) Selecting ALL files in that bin gives me the "Create Multi-Camera Source" option; but only if there isn't .wav or aif audio file in the list. The tutorial implies that audio files DO work.
    3) When I finally found the set of video files that gave me the "Create Multi-Camera Source" option I got a dialog that was considerably smaller than the one in the tutorial. While the tutorial shows options for Timecode syncing and syncing via audio I only see Synchronize Point. To synchronize using audio would have been most useful.
It must be something I am doing wrong or something incorrect with my source files (mp4 at the same format and audio). But what?
    Thanks
