Creating PDFs in AutoCAD

Hi,
I'm working at a office where we create drawings in AutoCAD and print thoose to PDF. We are trying to make a automated batch plot from a AutoLISP script. The only problem to make it fully automatic is that we don't know how to send a path to the Adobe PDF plotter.
Does anyone know any way that the Adobe PDF printer can recieve a path instead of the choosen outputfolder in the printer settings? With ActiveX, .NET or VBA.
We are working with Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard.

No you can't - while it is possible to change the .name property of a mesh object within the Acrobat JSAPI, it has no effect on the model tree as seen in the UI and can cause the 3D runtime to crash - so don't bother trying.

If you attach a JavaScript to your model it can read and set names for nodes in the model tree, including group nodes.

  • How to create black and white pdfs from autocad drawing

I am trying to create a pdf from autocad drawing with searchable text.  Using the default acad pdf driver, it will create searchable text for only TT fonts with width set to 1.0.  We use the monochrome plot settings so pdfs are all black, even if drawing was in color.
Using 'create pdf' from Acrobat Pro, Acrobat pro will create a pdf from the autocad drawing easily with all text searchable, shape fonts, TT fonts, no matter what the width.  Fantastic.  However, there is no option that I can see to create the pdf in just black and white.  It creates the pdf in drawings original colors.  How do I create a black and white pdf using acrobat pro?  Thanks.

    @gordon15
The only way to change the color of the printouts from your iPhone is through HP's free mobile app "HP ePrint Home&Biz". This is available in the App Store.
Simply download and install the app, choose a file to print from within the app, then press the icon at the bottom right of the screen that is a wrench and printer. This should then give you the option to choose the color output. Make your selection, press "Done", then press "Print."
If you are not seeing this option, you may need to setup ePrint for the printer and then register the app. This registration will also give you more functionality with the app.
If I have solved your issue, please feel free to provide kudos and make sure you mark this thread as solution provided!

  • Issues Creating PDF's From AutoCAD

My company is working on standardizing how our AutoCAD drawings are created from AutoCAD. In the past each AutoCAD drawing has been printed to PDF using a third party PDF printer such as DocuPrinter or BlueBeam PDF Revu.
While those methods work, the PDF files that are created are very large, and they take a long time to produce. Our drawing packages consist of several hundred files and take a couple of hours to generate through those methods.
I am trying to use Acrobat 8.0 Professional to streamline the process, as well as increase the PDF qaulity, reduce file size, and reduce time to completion.
Acorbat seems to work great, but I have noticed the following issues. I was wondering if anyone else as seems and fixed these already.
1.) While doing Batch conversion of files to PDF within AutoCAD using the batch Convert method, every layout in each the DWG file is converted to PDF. The PDFmaker does not seem to care about my AutoCAD settings which determine which layouts to plot. Is there a way around this?
2.) Some content is missing on some drawings. On some drawings, lines and other conten is missing from the PDF. If I do a Print to Adobe PDF the content is present, but if I use the PDFmaker the content is missing.
3.) Random colors. If I use the PDFmaker, some elements on particular drawings are coming out in Either Cyan Blue or Red on the PDFs. The items are black in the original DWG files.
    4. While doing a batch conversion, there is an option to save an XML file with all of your selections. You can reuse this XML file later. The XML file contains a setting that looks like you can specifiy which layouts to convert. Does anyone know the available options that can be used here?
All of my testing has been performed using Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.1.2 and AutoCAD 2007. I have also tested using AutoCAD 2009, but noticed a considerable amount of other issues.

    Thanks for your interest Bill.
I did just what you suggested. The file gets created, and when I open it in Distiller, the errors showed (log file) are the following:

Jojojo was the name of the file created by AdobePDF printer. The word AFIANZADORA happens to be the first text word in my document. It seems it does nothing from the beginning. Can you tell me what's happening with this information ?
And yes, I can print from any other windows application and a .pdf file is always created.

  • Creating a PDF from Autocad on a company network drive

    Hi,
I'm running Windows 7, Adobe X, and Autocad 2012. when I first got my machine I had no problems at all creating PDF's.  Now out of no where i'm not able to create them anywhere but my computers hard drive and wont allow me to print on a network drive.  I'm looking for any suggestions on how this can be fixed.
    PLEASE HELP

    Thanks Bill,
I asked my IS dept. about this and below is the response I got from them.
it is just a local area network. during the time SP1 was installed for Office 2010 64 bit, I uninstalled that service pack but it did not correct the problem. the same with 10.1 and 10.2 for Acrobat, those were installed and removed but it never correceted the problem. we do have a firewall but i didn't think that Acrobat would be accessing a port on our network. There is symantec Endpoint Protection v11 installed company wide, so at the time there were probably virus definition updates for the SEP that were installed.

  • HOW TO CREATE PDF FILES FROM AUTOCAD 12

I'M USING ACROBAT X TO CREATE PDF FILES FROM AUTOCAD 12 DRAWINGS.  THE PROGRAM RANDOMLY LEAVES OUT TEXT AND IMAGES.  IT ALSO STRUGGLES WITH TIFF, JPEG AND PDF IMAGE FILES EMBEDDED WITHIN THE AUTOCAD DRAWING.  THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH ACROBAT.  I WAS HOPING THE UPGRADE TO  X WOULD ELIMINATE THE PROBLEM BUT IT HAS NOT.

  • Creating PDF tool bar in Autocad Architecture 2009

How do I get the Adobe tool bar and pulldown menus on my Architecture 2009 screen. When we were running ADT 2005 and then loaded Adobe 8 Prof. the pulldown menus and Adobe tool bars appeared on the screen. Now that we have upgraded to Archit. 2009 I cannot get them to show up. I've tried menuload in Archt. but Adobe tool bars are not there, I've done a repair install on Adobe and still no luck. I can create pdfs thru the plot command but the tool bar is so much more convenient. Thank you.

Thank you very much for this link. Architecture 2009 runs on Autocad 2007, which is compatible, but there must be something in Arch. that prevents it because we just cannot get the pdf maker button to appear. Our Autocad support folks don't know either. I don't know why it is so difficult to get an answer to this we can't be the only ones trying to do this.

  • Printing PDF's from Autocad, but Unable to create PDF's with layers

I need to create PDF's where I can layer voice, data, and wireless coverage areas on seperate layers, but but have been unable to figure out how to do so. I can export and plot pdf's, but there isn't an option for creating layers, at least that i can find. I have researched and found that there should be some sort of create Adobe PDF button, but no such button seems to exist. I would really appreciate any insight that anyone could give me. Thanks!

    Good day,
Do you have Adobe Acrobat X Professional installed?  PDFMaker, the Adobe PDF icon you were referring to, will install into AutoCad 2008 and later with Acrobat X  Converting via PDFMaker should preserve your layers.

  • Acrobat 9 Update made creating pdfs in cad slower

I recently purchased a new Dell Computer with Acrobat 9 Pro on it. I received a message from Adobe that an update was available. I installed the update and now when I create a pdf in AutoCAD 2008 it takes about 9 seconds to create a pdf page. Prior to the update it took 2 seconds.
Does anyone have ideas on how I can go back the speed it was working at without uninstalling the software (I only get two installs).
    Thank you,
    John

Most likely a recent Microsoft "Patch Tuesday" causing a problem... see the last message in http://forums.adobe.com/thread/740960?tstart=0 for a similar that happened to me
If you are missing the PDF option in MS Office 2007, you may
download a plug-in from MS to create a PDF without Acrobat, go
to the MS article search page and do a search, or go to the MS
Office update page and search for the file to download
    Office http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/downloads/default.aspx
Plus, for Office 2007, see if this Microsoft product will work for you

  • I can't create PDF files from DWF files

I'm looking for a solution for creating PDF files from DWF files. When I attempt to create a DWF file to PDF, the file has problems being created. Does anyone have a solution to this?

We are trying to print to pdf format from a dwf (Autodesk Design Review) drawing file.  DWF is autodesk’s version of PDF.  In autocad, you can print to either dwf or pdf.  However, some of the fonts within autocad are not recognized by adobe so the fonts often don’t print properly.  Thus, we print to dwf first, then print again to pdf.
We operate 2 basically identical computers; the one computer is able to print from dwf to pdf and the other is not.   When I say not able, only part of the drawing actually prints; like it is not able to process the data.  The computer that cannot print from dwf to pdf, can actually print directly to pdf from Autocad.    It just cannot print from dwf to pdf.
Both computers are running Windows 7, Autocad Architecture 2015, and Adobe acrobat X.
Let me know if this is enough information.

  • Can't create PDF in Acrobat 7.0 Prof.

Since loading my CS2 programs on my Windows 7 (64 bit) computer, all of the programs work except Acrobat. When I try to create a PDF from MS Word, I get error messages saying that the PDF printer driver is missing and asks me to reinstall the program..I've done that, but it still gives me the same message. If I try creating it in Acrobat, I get a message that it cannot find the Adobe PDF resource files and asks if I would like to run it in repair mode. I've tried that, but I still get the same error messages. Any ideas?
    Thank you,

Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Setup was unable to create a new item: Adobe PDF Port Printer," when you install Acrobat 7.0 or Acrobat 3D. The Adobe PDF Printer will not be created. Therefore you will be unable to print to the Adobe PDF Printer to create PDF files. • Can't create PDF, Acrobat not activated

I recently needed to move my system over from XP to Vista since programs were unresponsive due to virus infection.  Re-installed CS3 Design Premium which comes with Acrobat 8 Professional.
Had no problem previously creating PDFs, but now sometimes I can and sometimes I can't.  When attempting to print from a report obtained from www.intellicorp.net (background check) I get an error message that says the software has not been activated, but it has been.  I can print to Adobe from my Windows Calendar.
Tech Support's solution is to deactivate the suite, remove the programs, install Acrobat 8 then install the other components of CS3.
Does anyone have a solution that doesn't involve reinstalling.
    Thanks,

If the repair does not do the job, then try a different job settings in the printing process. The error you are getting comes from the Distiller step of the PDF creation. You can go in steps if you wish by trying to print to file. Then opening that file in Distiller to see that happens.

  • Acrobat 8 Pro now unable to create pdf files

Been using Acrobat 8 for well over a year.  Installed new release of AutoCAD 2012, now unable to create pdf files from AutoCAD or MS Office programs.  Can anybody help?

You may still want to at least give a repair a shot. Won't hurt and sometimes customer suport (I assume you mean Adobe customer support?) will miss some things. I believe in your version you can find it under the Help menu.

  • TRYING AGAIN - Printing to PDF from AutoCAD

When we print to PDF from AutoCAD, the text in the PDF looks wrong/bad.  It takes on a jagged appearance and doesn't look anything like what the font is supposed to look like.  Any suggestions?

Did you print to the Adobe PDF printer? Are the fonts embedded with the PDF, or is Acrobat having to make font substitutions? You might try the Press or Print job settings. If you are using something other than Acrobat to create the PDF, then I don't have any suggestions other than to try Acrobat.
