Creating Tabs for Dashboard Prompts

Hi Experts
I currently have two dashboard prompts on 1 page
1) By Year
2) By Finanical Year
The user should only be allowed to use one prompt (at one given point) , therefore the other would be an alternative.
Is there a way of creating tabs 2 within the page to display each of the dashboard prompts, so when one is in use the other is hidden
This is becasue both these prompts should not be used together
Please can you help on how to achieve this
Hiten

Hi,
You can first Create Sub Report by using Presentation Variable and in prompt also you have to use the same Presentation Variable. Then you can use Guided Navigation in the Prompt (By Year or By financial Year) by browsing the Path of that Sub Report.

  • Seperate Subject area for Dashboard Prompts

    Hi,
Is there any way by which we can create seperate subject areas for OBIEE dashboard prompt only??
    Thanks

    Hi,
Yes we can create separate subject areas for dashboard prompt's alone. Here is a case
Say we need to create a constraint enabled prompt in our dashboard. So we bring in two dimension columns into the prompt.
When we run the prompt, the queries across these two dimensions go through a fact table (Because the only way two different dimensions can be joined is through a fact . This fact table is chosen by BI Server intelligently at run time and that can be set through Implicit Fact column also though). In this case there is a chance that some of the dimension rows might get skipped in the constrained prompt as all of the records might not be present in the fact table.
To mitigate this issue, we might want to create a separate subject area for dashboard prompts alone (using some fact less fact or by having a surrogate key in the 2nd dimension table etc).
    Hope I am clear :)
    Thank you,
    Dhar

During creation of prompts you can set additional format just check available icon on that layout. If it is 10g just look at above the heading 'Dashboard Prompt'.

  • Problem while passing parameters for dashboard prompts in URL

    Hi,
We have created a dashboard on OBI which has some dashboard prompts. We have a requirement that we shall open the dashboard from an external application. We are doing this by invoking an URL. We want the dashboard to turn with prompts already being applied.
I was trying to open the dashboard with the following URL
    http://<servername:port>/analytics/saw.dll?Go&PortalPath=/shared/Procurement%20and%20Spend/_portal/Supplier%20Performance&Page=Overview
But when I use the above Go URL the dashboard is not coming up. It shows the following error
         No Columns
The request cannot be performed because it contains no columns.
When I use the following URL(which has the keyword 'Dashboard' not 'Go') the Dashboard is coming up fine
    http://<servername:port>/analytics/saw.dll?Dashboard&PortalPath=/shared/Procurement%20and%20Spend/_portal/Supplier%20Performance&Page=Overview
There are dashboard prompt defined in dashboard. When I try to send the filter value via URL(given below) it is not working. I just see the Dashboard coming up.
    http://<servername:port>/analytics/saw.dll?Dashboard&NQUser=Administrator&NQPassword=SADMIN&PortalPath=/shared/Procurement%20and%20Spend/_portal/Supplier%20Performance&Page=Overview&P0=1&P1=eq&P2=Supplier."Supplier%20Name"&P3=1+AccessMicron
when we use the keyword Dashboard in the URL , can we pass the parameter for the dashboard proimpt ..? If we can do that .. how to do that ..? Is it the same manner that we do for Go URL. ..?
Please let me know if you need any more information on this.
Thanks in advance for your time,

    Hi Raj,
Raghu is correct, you need the Action=Navigate to make prompts work, otherwise you get move to the target dashboard without prompts.
I think you figured it out your self, but the ?Go is for Answer Requests and ?Dashboard is for navigating to dashboards.
I would also recommend using col1="COLUMN_NAME" and val1=value syntax instead of the P0,P1, etc, etc. It's a little easier to read and implement.
    Try this:
    http://<servername:port>/analytics/saw.dll?Dashboard&Action=Navigate&NQUser=Administrator&NQPassword=SADMIN&PortalPath=/shared/Procurement%20and%20Spend/_portal/Supplier%20Performance&Page=Overview&col1=%22Supplier%22.%22Supplier%20Name%22&val1=1+AccessMicron
    Good luck!

  • How to retain the presentation variable values for Dashboard Prompt

I've a dashboard prompt with date and two other drop down field, with default value as yesterday's date set for date and All Values set for other two drop down list. Presentation Variables are D1, P1 and P2 respectivilly
I'm using GO URL from "Report A" and passing presentation variable to navigate to other report (Report B) that works fine. eg:
    '<a href = saw.dll?GO&path=/shared/Reports/ABC/ReportB&Action=Navigate&p0=1&p1=eq&p2="-%20Time"."Next%20Day"&p3=@{d1}>Test</a>'
From Report B I'm using Dashoard URL to go back to Previous Report like:
    <div class="XUIPromptEntry minibuttonOn">
    Return to Previous Screen</div>
    This also works fine.
My problem is that, when users selects different values in the Main dashboard prompt for date and other other two drop down and navigates to other report (Report B), and from Report B, when user returns to previous screen (Main Dashboard), Prompts values gets refreshed to original default values.
Is there any way to retain the values of presentation variable in dashboard Prompt when I return to main dashboard from Report B?
    I'd appreciate your help.
    Thanks

Change your dashboard url include the column and column value for the date column sample shown below,
    [a href=saw.dll?Dashboard&PortalPath=/shared/sample/_portal&page=pagename&Action=Navigate&col1=Dim.Date&val1=@1>Return to Previous Screen[/a>
In my second report Date is the first column so I referenced it's value as @1 in the dashboard URL
    note: replace [ with <

  • Only one Apply button for Dashboard Prompt in obiee

    Hi experts,
We have a need wer we need to place prompts at specified places like one at right top then next 3 one below other. But only one Apply button.
Please let me know how to customize OBIEE 11.1.1.5 to achieve this.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
You are using OBIEE 11g ,so constrain the second report should be on the first prompt.I mean,In the second prompt properties we have an option like "based on the other prompt";where you need to give the first prompt column name.like wise third prompt also.
Then you will get only one apply button for 3 prompts.
    mar if helpful/correct..

  • Creating tabs for a single SQL report type region

I would like to find a way to use tabs in a single SQL report type region. The problem I have is that there are too many columns to be displayed so the report looks very cluttered. I would like to find a way to assign say columns 1 - 5 to tab 1, 6-10 to tab 2 etc so the user can find the columns they need by simply clicking on the various tabs without having to execute the query again.
I have looked at JQuery tabs but that seems to only be applicable to more or less unrelated regions. I tried to create different regions using the same query with different columns and that kind of works, but the regions don't stay in sync if say the user change the order for column 2 in tab 1, when they click on tab 2 everything displays in a different order.
Another wrinkle is that this is an updatable report so some of the columns are updatable.
I also looked at the hide / display column solution which is described in a few threads and that may also sort of work, but it is also not quite what I am looking for.
    Any help is greatly appreciated

Does anybody know if this can be accomplished using APEX? What I am really looking for is very similar to an old fashioned client / server screen developed using say Oracle Forms. Consider an order line screen where say columns line number, SKU and SKU description is to the left of the tabs so these columns are visible no matter which tab is active. Then the first tab has say pricing information including UOM, quantity, list price, unit selling price, price list. The next tab has say customer information including customer number, name, bill to and ship to addresses. the next tab has say shipping information with say the warehouse, shipping instructions and shipping method.

  • Calculations in Page /Dashboard Prompts  in OBIEE doesnt work for me .

    Hi ,
Iam trying to create a Custom Aging Report instead of using the OOB Aging report . In the report I created column ( only at this report level) "% of Outstanding Amount in AR Past Due 1- 30 Days" by changing the "Fx" and Now I can see the $$ amount that customer has due as well as how much % is that in the total Outstanding Amount. The report is coming good. Now I have a business requirement that the groupings such as 1-30 , 31-60 , 61-90 , and 90+ should be given in dashboard prompt . I could create 1-30 , 31-60 , 61-90 but 90+ ( 91-180, 181-360 , 360+) prompt is not working as I tried to concat these three groupings and iam getting the error message as " Un resolved column error , Concat Function does not support." and other thing when i tried to create a calcualted % prompt even that is giving me error message as " Unresolved colum. I think the Calculations doesnt work for Dashboard prompts ..but iam not sure ..May be Iam missing somethg , Can anybody pls help me in getting this fixed . How to create a calculation for page/Dashbaord Prompts ...I tried using the sql too but still it gives the error.
    Please help
    Thankyou
    Karthik

In your dashboard prompt properties you need to tick the 'Constrain' box for all the columns that you want be constrained by the other choices, e.g Year, Quarter, Month.
Only tick Product Name / Order Name if you want these to be constrained also but bear in mind it could cause a performance delay if you are having to join tables to get the constrain.
    Hope this helps,
    Regards

  • Dashboard Prompts Not Working in OBIEE 10g

    Hi People,
I  developed a report with two dimension column and a fact column.
    NBTY Level 1
    NBTY Level 2
    Spend Amount
NBTY Level 1 and 2 are from dimension and Spend Amount is a fact column. Both are joined in star schema. The results are correct.
So now i published the same report in a new dashboard, and created a new dashboard prompt on Dimension column "NBTY Level 1". I applied filter on the same column (Is Prompted) in report. But when i gave a value in Dashboard Prompt, the report is not changing. I cannot even find any trace of error displayed. When the prompt is selected and clicked on 'GO' button there is no moment in browser, it stays still. I have also permissions and everything is fine
Can some one please help in finding the problem, its an urgent issue, what possibly could go wrong?

    Thank You for your reply.
Yes the prompt column is from same subject area.
I Created a Column Prompt in the report using the same column and it worked for that report. But when i used that prompt in dashboard its not applying.
I will share a logical query for Report but How should i fing logical query for a prompt?
The total behavior looks very strange.

  • How to include the Age and Age operator in Dashboard prompts

I wouild like to create two new dashboard prompts 'Age' and 'Age Operator' both as drop downs.
The 'Age' prompt should have the values from 1-100 as dropdown for the users to select from.
The 'Age Operator' should have the values <, <=, >, >=, = as dropdown for the users to select.
I have PERS_DOB column in Person table. I do not have any operator values stored in any tables.
How can I create these two dashboard prompts so that the user can select the values from the
dropdown list and filter the results against.
    For example:
User select Age 20 from Age dropdown prompt and '<' from the Age operator prompt the results
should filter based on the above and should get us the records for the people whose
    Age is less than 20.
I appreciate any help on this.
    Thanks.

    You could try this:
    1) For the "age operator" prompt, use words to describe the operators (e.g., "less than" rather than the symbol <=, etc.). (I'll assume you know how to build the prompt using CASE statements and UNION. It's pretty straightforward.)
    2) Build 5 small reports, one for each operator, that only returns a row when the particular operator is selected in the prompt. Each of these reports will be in the guided navigation of a separate section.
    3) Now, build 5 versions of your report with a filter on the "Age" prompt, one report that calculates the 5 different permutations of the age chosen (i.e., less than prompt, less than or equal to prompt, etc.) and put each report in the guided navigation section that corresponds to the applicable small report you built in step 2. So, for example, for the section that returns a row when "less than" is chosen, put the report that filters for "age less than 'age prompt'."
So here is how it works: When the user selects an age and operator, only the section that corresponds to the operator selected will display because of the guided navigation. The other 4 sections will not show, because the small report in the guided navigation part of the section will return no rows.

  • Dashboard Prompt Execution Order

    Hi everyone,
I wanted to create a few test cases to see which order the Dashboard prompts were executing. What I did was I created two identical dashboard prompts, DBP1 and DBP2, on column "Account Number". I set DBP1 to Default to Specific value of 1. I set DBP2 to Default to Specific value of 2. My assumption is that the last prompt that executes is the value that will be shown in a dashboard.
I put the two prompts into a Dashboard and ran a few tests and here is what I found out:
    1. The order in which the prompts appear are the dashboard is irrelevant to the execution order.
    2. The value to which the prompts are set to is irrelevant to the execution order
    3. The name of the dashboard prompts is irrelevant to the execution order
    4. The alias of the dashboard prmopt is irrelevant to the execution order
In my trials, the second dashboard prompt's value was always the one being shown. So I created a third dashboard prompt DBP3 set to value 3. Then all the prompts had 3 as their value. My conclusion is that DB prompts are executed in the order in which they are created. Some where in their metadata, there must be a sequence number or internal ID that grows each time a DB prompt is created. Then OBIEE uses this identifier to determine execution order.
Can anyone confirm or deny that?
    Thanks!

    Hi Sunil,
Thanks for the reply. You are correct. Its seems that the dashboard prompts do execute asynchronously.
It turns out the reason why I was seeing newer dashboard prompts taking precendent over older dashboard prompts has to do with the cache. Apparently the last dashboard prompt in the cache, is the value all the prompts will have.
    thanks!

  • Tricky constrained dashboard prompt

    Hello experts!
I have some tricky setup for dashboard prompt. I'm using Oracle 10g.
    Assume there are:
    - Product dimension which has hierarchy in 3 levels
    - Account dimension which has hierarchy in 2 levels
    - Service request dimension
    - Service request fact
I need to build a report based on service request fact which is filtered by attributes of the dimensions mentioned above.
Problem is about the prompt design, which is required to work like that:
    - 3 Product Level fields should constrain each other (means when I choose Level 1 value, Level 2 and Level 3 values should be correspondingly limited), but not any other fields in the prompt.
    - 2 Account Level fields should constrain each other (means when I choose Level 1 value, Level 2 values should be correspondingly limited), but not any other fields in the prompt.
    - Several service request dimension attributes (e.g. Open date) which should not constrain any other fields in the prompt.
Speaking otherwise, product hierarchy choices should be constrained by product fields only, account hierarchy - by account fields only and other fields should not constrain anything.
When you build dashboard prompt, there is a Constrain checkbox present for field, but unfortunately field values are constrained by ALL other fields in the prompt. That means, when I enter SR Open Date range interval, Product and Account levels will be constrained only to service requests within that interval, which is unwanted. This behavior also has negative performance impact, since different dimension are joined through the fact (which is pretty large table), while it is not actually needed.
Solution I have in mind: create and use multiple prompts (separate for Product, Account and SR fields), but operating multiple prompts is not so user-friendly and is a bit confusing (you cannot apply multiple prompts at once).
Any ideas how to implement such a functionality?
    Thank you in advance,
    Alexei
Edited by: Alex H. on Apr 16, 2012 7:22 AM

    Hi MK,
Do you mean implicit fact column for subject area using SR logical fact?
This would not eliminate the joins between fact and dimension tables, hence will not solve the issue.
What I tried as an option: created separate logical dimension containing multiple LTS-es (separately for each real dimension) and joined that dimension to dummy fact on logical level.
When querying data from this dimension, physical tables are queried together without any join criteria, only filters are applied. This actually solved the original issue, but there is a performance hit since this is cartesian join query.
