Creative Audio Console and EAX question.

I have the mode set to Game mode and my speakers set to 5.. There is an EAX tab. Do I need to check the EAX box to get EAX sounds in games or is that checkbox for something else, like EAX sound effects with music or the mic?

  • Audio files and duplicates question.

    Hello Group,
After almost seven years my  Macbook pro is getting full., I have been using Omnidisksweeper to help locate files that are no longer needed. I have always been confused as to where My music files are kept. If I import audio files using Itunes, it seems I am creating duplicates, even if I name them, I seem to have an untitled artist or untitled album remaining, is this true?  The same question applies to Iphoto where are these Jpegs or digital photos kept? are files duplictaed when using these applications?
    thanks in advance
    Troy

If you are adding tracks by dragging to iTunes or by using the Add To Library menu item then iTunes will put a copy into your media folder and leave the original where it is.  iTunes uses the copy.  If you add by dragging to the Automatically Add To iTunes folder then iTunes moves the file to the media folder.

  • Some Creative Audio Console features explaination nee

In "Decoder" tab / "Settings" I have three options:
    Enable Dynamic Range Compression
    Enable Dolby Pro Logic
    Dolby Digital EX (On/Off/Auto)
I can't find detailed info about the first two - perhaps you could help me out?
I know what DRC is, the question is whether this option applies it to any kind of analog sound the card outputs or in some cases only (like playing a DVD)?
The bigger question is about the DPL option - what kind of effect it actually has? Does it try to upsample stereo to surround (and if that is so, how does it interact with CMSS which seems to do the same job?), or (false guess, I believe) does it try to decode a DPL-encoded 2-channel signal?
    Thank you.

    elenhil:
    Oops!
There is something I forgot - which card are you using? I' m refering to X-Fi, and you?
The DPL decode only proceed Dolby bit-stream when doing Dolby driver decode, that is, SPDIF is selected in playback software. If you use software decode, it will never work.
    Shingo-Y
The DPL decode has no business with CMSS-3D - they are different things for different purposes. For example, in Audio Creation Mode of X-Fi, enable Bit-Matched Playback, then the CMSS-3D is disabled at kernel layer. But now, the DPL decode still works.
The DPL decode works in Dolby's principles, which base on the marix operations. It preserves original positioning info, for example, a jet coming and fly-by will make the sound from front and then rear. But CMSS-3D can only up-mix stereo signal to rear speakers in a certain proportion.

  • Slim, a problem with virtual consoles and a question about reboot

hi, just installed slim but now when I switch to the virtual consoles my session on X starts firing keyboard events on the consoles I have there, how can I fix that?
I'm using xmonad, my terminal is sakura and I'm starting slim from /etc/inittab and xmonad from ~/.xinitrc
also, it seems slim uses special usernames to halt and reboot however those ask me for the root password, is there a way to avoid that?
    thanks all.

this http://developer.berlios.de/bugs/?func= … up_id=2663 might be related.  out of curiosity, why are you starting slim from /etc/inittab and not as a daemon in /etc/rc.conf?
Samus_ wrote:also, it seems slim uses special usernames to halt and reboot however those ask me for the root password, is there a way to avoid that?
the flippant answer is, "yes, fix slim."  but so as not to be a jerk, 'man slim' turns up this:
The 'halt' and 'reboot' commands need the root password, this may change in future releases.
so i was about to say, "no."  then i decided to hit google with 'slim "special usernames" password'.   unfortunately, your post here is the fourth result, so no love there.
    *but* there's this:
    http://developer.berlios.de/bugs/?func= … up_id=2663
    and this:
    http://developer.berlios.de/patch/?func … up_id=2663
    and the abs.
so if you really want it, read the wiki page on the abs, add the patch to the pkgbuild, makepkg, and pacman -U.  if you don't want pacman to replace your patched version when there's an update, add slim to the IgnorePkg line in /etc/pacman.conf.  you'll have to re-makepkg and re-pacman -U whenever there's an update, but it ain't that hard.
if it works, i might like a copy of yr pkgbuild.  hth!

  • Need help removing Creative Audio Control Panel

So I've been trying to get the Creative Consol Launcher to work with my soundcard again and found that in my "Programs and Features" list in windows 7 there is one item of Creative labs software that I can not remove. It is called "Creative Audio Control Panel" and when I attempt to uninstall it it tells me "C:\Program Files (x86)\InstallSheild Installation Information\{7E96A7F-AFE3-47-87B-583E37639E8}\SUPPORT.Cab not found."
Whenever I try to use the Creative Console Launcher it tells me "There are no supported audio device[sic] available. You need to close the application. Click OK to close the application now."? I assume it's trying to launch Creative Audio Control Panel which for some reason or other is no longer present on my system but was never properly uninstalled. Also, great work on that error message - seems like Creative needs more proof readers.
In other words it seems the file I need in order to uninstall this broken program is missing - any idea what I should do? I've tried seeing if I can reinstall the program but I can't find any setup file for it online - all I can find is "Creative Console Launcher" which seems to intigrate a launcher feature into volpannel, but since it doesn't have the Creative Audio Control Panel to actualy launch it just gives me error messages if I want to get into my EAX settings or mixer or anything like that. If anyone knows how I can uninstall/reinstlal this program (in windows 7) I'ld be very greatful.

Well I believe I have found a solution to my problem and it is manyfold so here goes.
First off, Creative Customer Support Americas corresponded with me via e-mail and notified me that there are known issues with all PCI cards and Creative Audio Consol in Windows 7 (which is to say they don't work together at all).
After getting this info I removed my SB 0790 card and plugged in another one I had handy - it's still a SB X-FI Xtreme Audio but this one is has a PCIe interface and a digital audio in/out jack on the back to boot - this card is manufactured not by Creative but by MSI (licenced I assume) and came with my motherboard (good thing I had it laying around).
Initialy I had the same issue - even uninstalling everything related to creative and re-installing the hotest newest drivers from the site simply wouldn't resolve the issue. Finaly I downloaded a 3rd party program called CCleaner - a freeware utility that can clean up registry errors and delete items off the program list by force if need be (and it was in this case). I used that to completely eradicate Creative Audio Console and Creative Console Launcher, re-installed the latest drivers and audio pack for the PCIe card, and then even had windows update the driver again after that (the result of which was not a new driver version but it did seem to download and install something - no clue what). After all of that I once again had a functioning version of Creative Audio Consol back on my computer - and now it recognizes that I have a valid card installed and I've got access to all the features I was missing. The interface for Creative Audio Console looks a bit different than it used to (no longer a fake looking stero but instead a fairly plane interface) but whatever it's working and that's what I care about.
Oddly enough with all those installs it never put Volume Panel or Creative Consol Launcher back on my computer, I wound up having to install those off of the MSI card's driver disk to get easy access to the Creative Audio Panel again (otherwise I'd have to either make a shortcut or go straight into the install directory any time I want to launch it - now though I can launch it right through the Volum Panel).
One persistant issue still remains: In my recording audio device list I am still missing: "What U Hear" but it has been this way since I installed Windows 7 for the first time in October when it releaed, and I have given up hope on ever seeing What U hear again - If I want to record from my soundcard I have a 3rd party freeware utility called "Virtual Audio Cables" that are a bit clunky but get the job done.
    Conclusion:
Though it may claim on Creative's support page for the SB0790 (Sound Blaster X-FI Xtreme Audio) soundcard that the latest drivers support Windows 7 it is abundantly clear that this is NOT the case. You will manage to get audio out of it, but almost no other creative aplication is going to work with your card or even detect that a valid working SB card is installed. It seems the only aplication I could get working relyably was the auto updator (which was able to see I had the card installed) and Volume Panel. By the admission of Creative Customer Support America, however Creative Audio Panel will not work, and I have observed that Creative Consol Launcher does not function properly either. Indeed even plowing through the file system you'll find support only for XP and Vista versions of the drivers - there is no Win7 specific driver for either this card or it's PCIe counterpart.
Also don't expect to have access to the "What U Hear" utility - this goes for the PCIe version of the card as well. As ever, it seems the marketing guys are making claims about the card that can't actualy be backed up, sure it's techincaly illegal, but only if your customers are willing to start a class action lawsuit over a 50 dollar soundcard that sort-of works anyway.
Issue resolved for now - and I am no longer pulling my hair out in frustration.

I don't have decoder tab with X-Fi XtremeMusic either in Vista x64. I have the X-Fi XtremeMusic soundcard and Vista Ultimate x64 SP, I get the decoder tab in both creative audio console and Creative Console Launcher (All modes). In order to get the Dolby Digital and DTS decoder tab in both creative audio console and Creative Console Launcher (Entertainment mode, game mode, ect) you have to install the following. Later, you can buy the Dolby Digital Li've as a add on.

  • Horrible X-Fi audio console softw

Will there ever be an alternati've to the absolutely horrible method of changing modes and switching options in the console. Why the heck do I need all these graphics just to change modes? Why do there have to be all sorts of flashy effects when I switch modes it is completely unnecessary. I typically dont mind these things when they don't run slowly but I am running a dual core opteron 65 system with 2 gigs of ram and a WD raptor dri've (which is more than enough for any application) and the only application that runs poorly is creatives audio console and its becoming extremely annoying since I switch modes frequently.
Is there not a simpler way to switch modes? Can creative please release a stripped down version of the audio console? If not is it possible to get ahold of an SDK? I would take time out of my schedual to write one myself if I got an SDK that would allow me to. It's really that annoying and I'm sure I'm not the only one who would benefit from such a project. At the very least could creative devs just give an option to turn off all of the flashy effects?

Several of us have suggested something like that but no word from CL. If nothing else maybe add it to the r-click options of the tray icon. Even nicer is if they would come up with a profiles type system where you could associate exe's to modes for autoswitching. Im just thankful the software works better than my A2 software did, hehe

  • X-fi Xtrememusic doesn't have the bottoms of DD and DTS in the audio console

    Hellow every body!....
I have a little problem with the Creative X-fi Xtrememusic OEM that I bought...:
) The issue is that when the card is instaled withthe drivers, I notice that the windows detect the sound card as a X-fi audio, and not with the name of x-fi xtreme music.... this is normal? all the x-fi are detected as a x-fi audio?... Because this card that I have, is the xtrememusic sure.... because the audio is blue and its diferent like the sound card that I have...
    2) Thats is the light problem.... Now the heavy xD: After installed the sound card I notice that in the audio console there is NO bottoms of the options "DD and DTS"... this sections are missing...
I try to uninstall the cd drivers... download the last drivers of this page... and when the last drivers are installed... there is no audio console and nothing.... only the driver and a old audio console... (not the with moder audio console that shows up in the current x-fi)
    - Know I format my PC and I installed all again.... and the same problems shows up...
I have the windows xp ue v7....
Any how can help me? I don't know what to do... I try anything and nothing works...

when did you purchase this xtrememusic? if I don't remember wrongly.... the newer refresh doesn't have dd and dts decoding anymore and have to use the included powerdvd to do it. only the older refresh of xtrememusic include dd/dts decoding via creative driver. furthermore yours is an oem version....it may also have different function/feature. you can try searching the CD and see if there is any folder by the name of "PDVD" or something?with?"dvd",?can't?really?remember?the?ex act?name... if?the?CD?you?have?have?this?folder,?then?you?won' t?have?the?ddd/dts?function?in?the?audio?console.
