Creative HS-980 - microphone problem

So I've been using this headset for about 0 months now. Everything was fine until 3 days ago. Microphone simply refused to work any longer. Headphones are still working good, but I can't force mic to detect anything. No mater what would I use it in, Ventrilo, Mumble, Steam, even Windows voice recorder. And all of theese worked before. What the hell? I didn't install anything that day, it just shut down.
My OS is Windows 7 64-bit. Sound card is Creative X-Fi GamerPro (wich makes that sudden failure even more surprising). I downloaded newest drivers, still nothing. Any ideas?

Hello Sleelan,
If the mic works before, I would check if it is securely connected (unplug/replug). The mic boom of the HS-980 is detachable so it's possible it's loose or something. Well, this is the only possible reason that I can think of since you haven't done anything on the computer.

  • Can't get creative hs-300 microphone headset to work(total newbie)

Alright, I'm not very experienced in this, and probably my computer that's set up right for this. But here goes
I've bought the creative hs-300 microphone headset so that I could talk with a friend of mine. But it won't work. I can easily hear him, but we both get an echo of what he's saying, like my microphone takes whatever I hear on my headphones and send it back to him.
Also, when I get a msn message while testing my microphone in the msn guide, it detects the sound as me talking into the microphone, and thinks everything is ok, which it obviously isn't.
I've also tried just about everything in controle panel -> sound settings, ticking only microphone in recording, but nothing seems to do the trick.
Some hardware info: ATI WDM Rage Theater Video placed on Sapphire Radeon 9600 Atlantis
The standard unit when selecting microphone and speaker in the guide to audio interaction is SigmaTel C-Major Audio.
Would appreciate any help that I can get, as I would really like for this to work.
    Thanks.

Re: Can't get Mic to work? I'm using the Steelseries Siberias headset, with a standalone Zalman mic. I never unplugged them, I only reformatted from a cracked verion of Windows 7, to a legit version of Windows 7. The versions were actually the exact same, and now I regreat Formatting.

I've just gottren really frusterated. I'm about ready to go back down to XP just to get this to work, I use my microphone for so many different things.
I've searched this problem, it seems there are numerous people with the same problems, and I just find that sad, I've been using creative products for a long time now, and have never had a problem like this before.

  • Major Microphone problems (1, 2, 3, Test, anybody ther

A while ago I wrote in this forum a work around to get the microphone connected to the back recognized by the Titanium Pro. This seems to work... BUT you will lose the "Microphone" input channel sooner or later and only the "Microphone FP" (which is only available for the Campion variant with a front panel!) will popup. I don't have any idea what triggers this.
Why is this a problem? Because software that relies on a micropone (like speach recognition - standard feature in Vista 64!) does not work.
And then there is the non-existent microphone boost of course.
Games cannot use that microphone either. It either doesn't work or is way too soft.
There is one thing I do know...
Creative has no respect for its customers. Instead of working on a solution, they do not care and do nothing. I have enough of their nonsense.
Selling stuff that doesn't work is a practice you would expect from crooks. In my opinion they are just that.
Work on the **bleep** drivers and give your customers what they have paid for. How hard is that? Or did you fire your best driver coder by accident?

MadGizmo, hi. I was one of the early adaptors to the Titanium. I read all of the supposed fixes but none work. A tempory "fix" is to go the computer store and buy a Plantronics ($30)?or Logitech($20) USB desktop PC microphone. That is working fine.
But MadGiz.....they didn't fire their best driver coder. The problem is that the company is very loyal to their?most senior?software/driver person who has been there a really long time and the guy really doesn't know how to do things properly. You have to respect a company that treats their most senior employees well, that part is admirable, but whenever it comes to driver problems they stick their heads in the sand and say "driver problems? I don't see any driver problems."
Did you notice that when you came in this forum it wasn't very easy to locate the Titanium Mic problem posts? There have been plenty of people mentioning it but the way these forums are laid out those those posts scroll by and then the Creative folks say "driver problems? I don't see any driver problems."
Tell me, do you see any forum sticky up at the top like you'd expect with a thread made by Creative that says Titanium Mic Issues Thread? We know it would make sense to see it there since this is their most recent card, but no....... Creative wants people who haven't bought the card yet to come into the forums and look around and say "Titanium driver problems? I don't see any driver problems. Maybe it's ok for me to go buy one now then."

  • Microphone Problem SB XFI Xtreme Gamer

& I have a headset that has a microphone. When I plug in the mic, I can't record any sound. I see a red light coming from the port, which leads me to believe that it is set to digital out. How do I change this so it recognizes the analog microphone [email protected]

*Re: Microphone Problem SB XFI Xtreme GamerK Hi necrochaos,
I think this is the same problem I had for a while, which had me pulling my hair out until I found the annoyingly simple solution. Hopefully it'll work for you too.
In the Creative Console Launcher (this is in Game mode, guess it's different for the other two.), open the Mixer tab and then under the slider bar that has "REC"in red, click the little drop down arrow and select microphone. This is all I needed to do I think. Test it with Windows Sound Recorder.
Also in Settings (very bottom-center of the Creative Console Launcher)I noticed that there's a category called "Digital I/O" and under that Flexijack Mode with the option to select between Digital I/O and Mic/Line-In. It's greyed-out on mine but maybe that'll work for you? Hope that hel

  • Creative Zen loading music problem

"Creative Zen loading music problem?I just started using a creative zen (DVP-FL000, 6Gb) player and i'm having?a few issues copying music onto it.
I have loaded the latest firmware (.2.03e) onto it and formatted it so was clean when i started loading my music on.
I'm using winamp on winxp to copy my music to the player, but occasionally i get tracks that wont copy to the player. Winamp just shows 'unspecified error'. If a file fails to copy it will never copy, no matter how many times i try. Somtimes its a random track, sometimes an entire album.
So i also tried copying the tracks that wont copy using windows explorer, it appears to copy but the file never appears on the device. The same is also true when i try it on my Windows7 laptop with explorer, it will appear to be copying but then part way through it will report that the device has stopped responding.
It only seems to happen with windows media files, all my mp3s copy fine. The files that dont copy probably represent about 0% of my music but play fine on all my other players.
sorry for the long post, just really scratching my head with this one!
    anyone have any ideas?

did a 'clean up' in the recovery menu, no problems transferring tracks since

  • B520 Built-in Microphone Problem

We recently got a B520 77452MU All In One.  It includes a built-in webcam & microphone, and since right out of the box the microphone has recorded horribly.  It has very high background noise, kind of like a whirring static-y fan, so high that one might say the talking is actually the "background" noise.  We've tried updating the drivers and adjusting the microphone settings in the sound section of the control panel.  After troubleshooting extensively with the warranty tech support, they said it wasn't a normal problem and had us ship it in to try replacing the microphone (the particular model # we bought was not available to order by the time we received ours - it took a month to ship - so the sales rep couldn't just exchange it). That did not resolve the poor recording quality, even though the repair slip said the webcam/mic unit was replaced and passed the test, so we're thinking this must really be a normal weakness of the system.  Does anyone else have this problem?  Has anyone figured out a solution?
We like the features of the computer otherwise, so we're thinking about just buying an external microphone, but it is very annoying to have an "all-in-one computer" mounted to our wall with accessories hanging off it because it isn't really "all-in-one".

I have more info on my own situation (with a USB connected head set.) Net: the Rosetta Stone suggestions seem to have worked. I've listed the steps they supplied for Windows 7. I made two changes from what I had been recently using, highlighted in red under "Editorial Comments" in steps 9 and 12. That combination seemed to stop the background noise (feedback from a device?) in my talking during voice recognition.
I realize this doesn't directly address the original post about "B520 Built-in Microphone Problem" since i wasn't doing the same thing. The original symptom, though, seemed to be related.
The suggested steps with a USB headset for voice recognition with my annotations:
    1. Plug your headset into an available USB-Port.
    2. Open the Start menu.
    3. Click on the Control Panel.
    start menu
    4. If you're viewing the Control Panel by Category, click Hardware and Sound and then Sound. If you're viewing by Large or Small icons, click Sound.
    open sound menu
    5. On the Playback tab, highlight your device by clicking on it. Your device may be listed as C-Media USB Audio Device, USB VoIP Device or Other USB Device. (Editorial comment: my only USB choice was "USB VoIP Device", which was what I was already using.)
    6. Click the Set Default button. If there's a green checkmark next to your preferred device, it's already set as the Default Device.
    Set Default
    7. Click the Properties button.
    click properties button
    8. Click the Levels tab.
    9. Adjust the Speakers to 30.   (Editorial comment: mine had been set to 67.)
    10. Click OK.
    11. Click the Recording tab.
    12. Highlight your device by clicking on it. It should have the same name as the device that you selected in the Playback tab.  (Editorial comment:  my microphone highlighted had a different name, "Lenovo USB 2.0 Audio", though I had nothing else audio but my headset plugged into a USB connection. I  highlighted the "USB VoIP Device" name used in step 5.)
    13. Click the Set Default button. If there's a green checkmark next to your preferred device, it's already set as the Default Device.
    14. Click OK.

  • [solved] Microphone problem, possible unwanted stereo mix.

I'm user of integrated Integrated audio: Realtek HD Audio ALC 1200 (Mother board: ASUS P5Q)
Whenever i try to record something from my microphone input, i'll record everything that currently plays at the background (output is being captured with microphone input, no matter what).
The question is, how to disable this? If i lower capture volume, this stereo mixer volume goes down, too, but therefore it's impossible to record my own voice without yelling.
    I'm using Pulse Audio.
Is there anyone who is using same audio card and not having same problems?
I just hope i shouldn't blame my integrated audio card, but my hands.
Here is a screenshot of my alsamixer settings: http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/5885 … shotgy.jpg
EDIT: If you have same audio card and you do (or do not) have any microphone problems, please contact me.
TL;DR: stereo mixer is always on.
Solution: if you have 6 pins on motherboard, try to use orange/black instead of green for audio out (headphones). No idea what's the problem with green one.
    ^ works for me.

You say you are using pulseaudio. If I am not mistaken, the settings you change in alsamixer won't affect pulesauido (at least not in my case)
Have you installed and run pavucontrol to look at the "Input" Settings? This is the mixer for PulseAudio
After little discussion at alsa-project.org I believe my audio card is just "not really good" and this stereo mixer is possible to hear, if output volume is 66+ and capture 33++, i just switched to values above. (it's almost silent with those)
So I can now use microphone without heavy stereo mixing. But, need to find anyone else with same audio card experiencing same problems. If someone has the same audio card, and is (isn't) experiencing same problems please contact me.
Used pavucontrol to confirm volume settings.

  • Microphone problem

Hello. I recently bought my Xperia Z3 compact. Its a great phone..except the awful microphone problem. I bought it a week ago and 3 days ago I made the mistake to update to Android 5.1.1. Before that, I didnt have the problem.Anyway, the problem - when I hold my phone to my ear the other person doesn`t hear me, when I turn it to speaker they hear me perfectly. Sometimes it`s the other way around - speaker doesn`t work, the other person can hear me when I hold it close to my ear (this happens rarely).I tried the Internet fixes, none work. Maybe you can give me some solutions as I asked Sony to give me another Xperia and they told me that it has to go to them 3 times with the same issue.Cheers

I'm sorry to hear that, you could repair the phone with PCC, if that doesn't work then you will have to contact your local Xperia Care PC Companion (PCC)  Bridge (for Mac)   Alternatives on How to backup Xperias http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/36355  http://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/contactUs/

  • HP Split x2 Microphone Problems

Using an HP Split x2 over skype. A variable hissing noise occurs which reaches a point that it drowns out audio, then it will abate and then build back up again. It begins building during pauses in conversation and then begins to slowly diminish as we talk. Have tried moving the tablet to various locations to see if it is interference from other device. Does not sound like traditional feed back. Any suggestions on how to resolve this problem? Thanks!

Hello Pondering92. I understand you are experiencing microphone problems on Windows 8, when using Skype. Does this issue only occur on Skype, or on other programs? If it only occurs on Skype, try uninstalling and reinstalling the program.
If it occurs on multiple programs, and you followed all the troubleshooting in this HP document, you could be experiencing faulty hardware. Since the product is in warranty, I would contact HP technical support for servicing.
