Creative Sync Manager - no player connected

Just bought Zen X Fi2
Tried to use Creative Sync Manager on 2 computers now and same problem. The software cannot see the mp3 device. All other software can see it - its just the Creative Sync Manager.
Searched everywhere for answers and nothing at all conclusi've - especially from the last 2 months or so.
Anyone got any ideas please?

Well - I suppose the conclusion I am arriving at is:
creative is good at the hardware technology
creative are awful at software
creative are terrible at customer support
Having worked in marketing for over 30 years and and internet marketing for 2 years - I am amazed at the inability ( or DESIRE) for the corporation to get involved in a problem that has obviously existed for a number of years. (do a search on google)
Anyway, on a personal level - thanks for your input.

  • Creative Sync Manager:---- CRAS

The Creative Sync Manager crashes every time I plug in my Zen Micro (vers. ..0) with the message "Creative Sync Manager has encountered a problem".
    I have:
WindowsXP SP2 all patches to date.
    Zen Micro FW Vers. ..0
Installed Zen Micro Driver 2.0 and ZenCast (which includes Sync Manager vers. 6.4.6)
Please do not suggest I update firmware. I really don't want firmware 2.x.
Does anyone have any suggestions? It just doesn't seem right that the Sync Manager should CRASH when a Zen Micro is plugged in, no matter what the firmware version.
    Thanks,

Zen Vision M:30gb XP Pro laptop and Vista Desktop both do the same thing. Very frustrating, and making me feel foolish for not buying an iPod - I'm sorry but its true. I wasted 2 hours trying to get this to work yesterday, and even when it works, the podcasting implementation is poor. If they get this fixed, and then make it better, I may stay loyal but its not looking likely just now!
Great player... better than an iPod in my view... but horribly let down by the software.

When I plug in my MP3 Player to upload songs, why does it take so long for my Creative Sync Manager to recognize? It seems like it takes forever to process that my MP3 Player is plugged in...

  • Creative Sync Manager crashes, ZE

Great player but the software is horrible. I can't even believe that Creative would allow this to be shipped if so many people are having problems with the Creative Sync Manager crashing. I even debated returning my Zen W because of the horrible software.
I have updated all of the firmware and my player came with the latest files. Purchased 2 weeks ago.
Creative? !!!! are you doing something about this ??

  • Creative Sync Manager weird bug (featur

    Hi,
I'm a new Zen Touch 20GB owner although I've been an avid 3G iPod owner before it died on me some time ago. Anyway, I love my new Zen Touch for what it worth but if only if the bundled software would perform better. Well, first of all, I find Creative MediaSource Organizer to be quite a decent audio player despite the weird 4-panes navigation scheme. I have no problem with it yet though.
However, the accompanying sync plugin/module for my Zen Touch is very disappointing.
Before I start ranting, here are some details:
    Mp3 Player:
    Zen Touch 20GB
    Date of purchase: 0/2/2005
    Firmware: 2.0.05 (PlayForSure)
    Creative MediaSource:
Version 3.30.2 with updated driver for PlayForSure-enabled Zen Touch
Now back to the issue. First, it takes more than 0 seconds to initialise. Loading a big chunk of drivers for all MP3 players Creative have ever produced or what? Second, it doesn't have an option to delete files in my zen player which are not in my PC library. Third, it REFUSES TO REPLACE MP3 files that are already in the player eventhough the files are listed before the syncing procedure. You see, I edit ID3 tags of my music collection all the time so it is natural for me to have my modified ID3 tags to reflect on the files on my Zen Touch as well. OK sure, when I fire up the sync manager, it manages to detect that I have all these files with updated ID3 tags needed to be copied over to my Zen Touch but why in the name of creativity wouldn't it copy the files just like it should do? The files are already in my Zen Touch? Just replace them! I know what I want to do so just replace them! Or at least give me the "Do you want to replace the files?" box with "Yes" or "No" button. Why do I have to go into the directory structure of my zen player and delete the files manually in order to get the latest files copied over?
I hope this issue is fixed soon. Don't give me those "download the freeware NomadSync etc" advices. Why bother releasing the bundled software if it cannot do such a simple job of replacing files already in the player.
p/s: I read the "read before you post" post and I already did some searches in the forum for previously posted posts on the issue above but it seems that I'm the first one to discover it. Or maybe everyone else just doesn't care and decided to suck it up?Message Edited by anatilmizun on -09-2005 02:57 AM

well, I don't mind having to use other program for not-so-common jobs, but this is about replacing/overwriting files that are already in the player. I did mention that the sync manager is smart enough to make a list of files that it thinks should be synced to my zen touch but why won't it copy the files over? Isn't it weird if you sit and think about it's Isn't the real purpose of sync manager to copy files from PC to Zen or vice versa so that both places have the exact set of files? So what if the destination already has the files? The files are different, as detected by sync manager, so it should just overwrite them. It is the basic job the Sync Manager is supposed to do, isn't it's Why should I use another program?
It's like sync manager saying "hey, I think the files X, Y and Z in your MP3 player are outdated so I am going to sync them. WHoaaaa! There are already X, Y and Z in your MP3 player so I'm going to leave them alone" Sense any weirdness or craziness about this hypotethic monologue?Message Edited by anatilmizun on -0-2005 0:09 AM

  • Can't see the icon "Sync Manager" (Zen Player Pl

... in Media source - even when I highligt the Zen Player Plus icon ?
Have I missed the point completely, or ?
    Please help

The Help file covers all versions of MediaSource including those designed for other products. I'm sure Sync Manager is just for use when you have a HDD player connected.
With a Zen Nano Plus you just transfer the files over manually.

  • Suggestion for creative's next MP3 Player, connection for USB Flash Driv

I would to see a connection for USB flash dri'ves to be added to the next mp3 player Creative makes. This way we don't have to rely solely on expensi've and limited in memory SD Cards.

I'm a bit confused as well, flash dri'ves are all more expensi've than the SDHC cards I have of the same size, and a whole heck of a lot more bulky and oddly shaped. I can't see myself strolling around with a ZEN with a plastic knob sticking out of the side, but that's just my opinion.
I like SD cards, they are slim, extremely light weight and easy to carry (mobility is pretty much the entire point of a portable player). It makes it really easy to purchase a few SD cards and use them like interchangeable disks. They are also pretty cheap and rapidly getting cheaper.

  • Sync Manager upd

    Dear Mods,
Do you know if there is any plan for an update to the Sync Manager software? I understand that there is something underway but don't know when it may be released. Also how do you tell what the software version of the sync manager you have installed?

Hi can anyone help? Basically everytime I try to run Creative Sync Manager it crashes. So I can't get any tracks onto my Zen which does say on it "Docked" by the way. I tried running it in compatability mode for XP SP2 and it's even worse, crashing quicker.
I've just done a fresh install so I have the latest driver and the new ZENcast. It used to work fine when I first had it on XP Pro 32bit.
O/System: Windows Vista Home Premium x64
    MP3 Player: Zen Touch
Edit: Just seen how many people are having this problem, surly there is a fix? Creative?

What driver version did you install? The Original firmware for the Touch is NOT "Plays For Sure" check the device to get the firmware version number. Go to the main menu on the device look in the system>information the firmware version number is there with the number of tracks, albums, space used & space left on the player. The fresh install was the computer XP before you did that? If it is the original firmware you will not be able to sync with a Vista computer since that uses MTP protocol. You would need to install the device driver(using compatabilty mode for XP Sp2) & the Nomad Explorer file installed the same way. If you want to update the firmware to sync you can ONLY DO THAT ON A COMPUTER RUNNING XP SP2 with WMP0 ONLY. Do not attempt to do that on a Vista computer or you will "brick" the device.

  • Use Sync Manager with Vista Search Fold

    Hi,
I've setup a custom search in Vista based on MP3 tags and I'm trying to setup the Creative Sync Manager to sync with files that are indexed by this search, Sync manager lets me select the search folder as a sync option but then doesnt find any files to sync with.
Anyone tried or have any success with this, or know of any software that might do the trick?
    Thanks in advance,
    Nick

If the sync process hangs on a PIM category, it usually means there is data corruption.
There may be database corruption causing the issue. Click on the following link for the program called DbFixiT. This program has a trial version that you can download and install on your Palm OS device. The trial version will scan for database corruption and then report the corruption. You can then find the records causing the problem and fix them yourself or you can purchase the program and have it automatically fix the records.

  • Sync Manager Problem - doubling of mu

I am having a problem with Creative Sync Manager.
When I synchronize my music library and playlists from the comuter to the Zen Micro I get a doubling effect of music in the Zen Micro library and playlists.
The problem seems to go in both directions when I synchronize in both directions.
I find a similar problem if I drag and drop a playlist from the computer to Zen Micro or (vice versa.)
I'm not sure but it seems that when playlists and the music library are syncronised the transferred selections are assigned a transfer date and time. If this transfer date/time is different from the original transfer date/time, it appears that the softtware assumes that the selections are different!
Is there some way that I can make the drag & drop and Sync Manager work properly? (I am using Zen Micro Media Explorer 4.00.3)

Oh, Schamm! I've searched for days for a fix for this, and I was so excited when I found your solution. I found the file and changed it to "NO." But when I tried to run iSync, I got the same error. I tried deleting the file and restarting the computer to no avail. In fact, every time I go back to the com.apple.syncserver file, it seems to have reverted back to "YES."
I'm glad your solution has worked for some. I wish it had worked for me. I wouldn't know why, but maybe it's because I have an iMac and everyone else in the discussion has a MacBook? Ah well, I'm not quite ready to reinitialize my hard drive, but I suppose I'm at least looking at reinstalling Snow Leopard. That is unless someone has another suggestion, which I would certainly be willing to consider.

  • Problems with Sync Manager &

I previously used Creative Sync manager to sync up my Outlook 2007 Calendar and Contacts from my Vista PC to my new Zen (6GB), which worked fine. However, I did notice that whenever I tried to check the Outlook Data on the Zen using the Zen Media Explorer's "Manage Organizer Data" option, I'd get an error message relating to the PIM manager and it would immediately close.
I therefore tonight chose the clean up tool to remove all my organizer data from the Zen - just in case the data was corrupt. That worked OK, but now whenever I try to run the Sync manager it pops open an error window titled CTSyncU which says "The RPC server is unavailable". If I OK that, the Sync manager shows it has compared files but there are no items Calendar or Contacts items found on my computer (which is rubbish!). The "Sync Now" button is also greyed out, so I can't sync my Outlook data to the Zen anymore. Grr!
    Any suggestions

I got my hopes up when I saw someone had replied to this at last! No nickc7, I've I'd no response to this issue at all, and even though I since installed the latest version of Zen Media Explorer the problem is still there. Oddly, if I format my Zen it let's me sync my contacts first time, but after that any attempts to resync fail. Most frustrating!
Would be nice if someone from Creative would take the time to respond to this bug

I can see the player on the windows device manager, and the sync manager. But the firmware tool doesn't see the player! My configuration:Windows XP SP2Media player 0 Creative has got a tool called 'MP3 recovery tool', this program downloads the correct firmware for your device, the recovery tool detects my ZEN V and download the correct firmware, after downloading the firmware install tool is running. And said also: 'Your player is not detect', it is strange the recovery tool detects the player and the firmware update don't! Please help me!

  • Zen Sync Manager doesn't work with Windows 7

    I have a Zen 6GB MP3 player, firmware version .2.03_0.03.0.
I recently upgraded my computer from Windows Vista to Windows 7. Sync Manager (looks like version 6.4.8.0, dated 7/7/2007) worked fine with Vista, and it even worked for a few days after I upgraded, but now it does not recognize that there is a player connected.
Zen Media Explorer still works, so I can drag and drop audio files to the Zen, but this is a bit of a pain. More importantly, I need to find a way to sync organizer (Outlook) data.
I have tried running Sync Manager in various compatibility modes (Vista, XP SP3, XP SP2), but it still will not recognize the player. From something I read in another post in this forum, I'm wondering if I need to uninstall Sync Manager and reinstall it in a compatibility mode? All my other applications work fine with Win 7, so I'm not that familiar with how to use compatibility mode properly.
    Thanks!

I tried every which way to solve this problem, and in the end contacted Ctreati've tech support. They advised the following:
"Please be advised that, currently, we do not have Creative Media Explorer (Sync Manager) and firmware updates available for ZEN on Windows 7 OS.
Creative is working constantly on updates for Windows 7 users who are using Creative products. These updates will be deli'vered from time to time on our website. We encourage you to often visit our support site, http://support.creative.com/ and forum page, http://forums.creative.com/ for product updates and announcements."
Frustrating; it looks like a matter of waiting ...

  • Creative ZEN 4GB is not connecting with

    Hello Everybody!
I've bought CREATIVE ZEN 4GB mp3 player, and after some two months, i can not connect the player with pc. So i reinstalled my windows, because i thought it was some problems with whem. After installation, everything worked twice, and then, is the same problem happened. So i reinstalled windows a second time, but doesn't matter, how many times i reinstall them, it's same problem. After that, i've tried to contact costumer support, but all they tried to help me, was unsuccessful. So few weeks ago, i deleted the MTP Device from "device manager" And now, all the time i have a bubble on the left lower side at the screen, with a note: "Found New Hardware: MTP Device" And i can't turn it of, every time i do that, it shows again. At device manager, on MTP device i have yellow exclamation mark. When i'am trying to update driver, i have this error: There was a problem installing this hardware: MTP Device.
    This Device Cannot Start (Code0)
The only thing i can do, charge my mp3 player. And sometimes i using the player on the really old computer, and its works properly, but the worst thing, that the old computer is not mine anymore, so i can't do anything with a mp3 player.
So if someone, has problem like this, and someone, who resolved it, please help me. I like this player very much, and i dont want to change it.
    Thank You!

Yes, it is possible. On the right hand side of the player is the slider to turn on the player, push the slider upwards to the lock position and the screen will turn off. That is the Hold mode. At this mode, all the buttons would be inaccessible to prevent accidental pressing of the buttons. This is the mode to use when you are just playing music and do not need the display.
To unhold the player, just push the slider to the middle position and all the way down to turn it off.
