Croping and scaling

I have a website where a user enter a customize of the
graphic they want...
then I show them the picture with a highlight of the size
they select
example: customize size: 20 x 20
show them a picture with a 20 x 20 box over the actual
images.
but the user now wants to scale the image (while still
keeping the 20 x 20
size) wants to
the website this is on right now is build in PHP.. and I'm
wondering if I
can just point out to a cf page that will allow the
cropping/scaling and
then go back to PHP with the data?
if someone knows how to do this; I'm will to pay to get it

ImageMagick is a better solution for a PHP site - it is the
image utility used by mediawiki (the backend software of wikipedia)
and countless other PHP packages. It seems pointless to point a PHP
page to a coldfusion site just for image resizing.
If you have a coldfusion site, and imageCFC supports the
formats and features you want, then it probably is the best option
in terms of integrating neatly into your code.
If the feature set / format support of imageCFC is not
sufficient for what you're doing (as it wasn't for me), then
calling ImageMagick from Coldfusion can also be achieved relatively
easy, and it is a very mature and feature rich set of tools.
Just to be clear, ImageMagick doesn't require installation /
DLLs. - the executable files just need to be somewhere the
Coldfusion server can do a CFEXECUTE on them and it has support
under linux as well.

  • Images and XML forms and Images and scaling

    Hello,
I have two questions about using images in XML forms.
    1) How do I insert images into the XML form editor.
The thread HTML Editor in XML Form? (Posted: Aug 26, 2004 7:50 PM), discuss how the HTML Editor in XML forms can be extended to be able to insert images like in the KM editor.
Has anyone any practical experience with this?, as the thread is fairly old.
And is there other solutions which are more suited?
The portal is running on WAS 6.40, EP 6.0 SP11
    2) Is is possible for the portal to scale images
In the portal, different users will use XML forms to publish news stories. These users will want to publish images along with the text.
In many content management systems, the system will automatically scale the images (e.g. create one thumbnail, a mid-size image and keep the full size) Can this be achieved in the portal.
The reason for this is to make sure that no one can post a very large image and to make sure each image is the same size.
I'm interested in hearing how other people, solve the issue with uploading and scaling of images used in the portal.
    Kind regard,

  • RDP resolution and scaling level issues between two Win8.1 systems

I'm trying to follow along with this blog post that describes RDB 8.1 resolution and scaling level updates:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rds/archive/2013/12/16/resolution-and-scaling-level-updates-in-rdp-8-1.aspx
I'm connecting from one Win8.1 Pro system to another and the scaling level control on the Display control panel, I'm getting an error message that says "The
display settings can't be changed from a remote session". Both copies of Win8.1 are Pro editions and have had all updates installed.
Shouldn't my install mean I've got RDB 8.1 with the latest video drivers and that I should
be able to make these changes? Thanks.

    Hi Chris,
To verify, if you open a dialog on the remote system, for example, System Properties, and open the same locally and place them side by side, are they the same size, fonts, etc?
I need to do some testing to verify that auto scaling is not limited to Enterprise SKU.  If we do not get it solved in the next day or so then I may want you to do a screen share and show me what is happening so that I can investigate further.

  • Problems with filesize after exporting and scaling photos

I gave digital photo frames as Christmas gifts and wanted to load them up with many years worth of family photos, so I exported hundreds of photos from iPhoto and scaled them down to roughly 400 by 300 pixels to be used in the low resolution digital photo frames. The files vary in size from 40K to 100K.
The entire folder of over nearly 1,000 photos is only 86.2 megabytes in size.
However, when I went to copy the photos onto a new 512 megabyte SD card, only a couple dozen photos would transfer before I would get an error message saying there was no room left on the card. The finder would show over 400 megabytes available, but if I tried to drag even one more 40K photo on, I would get the same out-of-room error message.
I tried reformatting the card several times and several ways (including disk utility), but same problem. So I tried different SD cards, but same result. I tried CF cards, but same result. I tried different card readers, tried dragging the photos over one at a time, tried copying them with PhotoMechanic, tried doing it all from a different Mac, but always the same result.
It seems like there must be some hidden files being copied along with the photos that are taking up that extra space on the card. Never had anything like this happen before. It only affects these files that were exported through iPhoto 6.0.5 and scaled to a smaller file size. So I'm sure the problem must be there.
Has anyone had anything like this happen before? The organization and editing of all these photos took many hours so I would love to find a solution without having to start the entire process over.
    Thanks.

    I found a solution--though I don't understand why it works.
I was dragging photos (either in a group of hundreds of photos or individually) onto the card so they resided on the top level of the card's system heirarchy. That's when I would always get the "out-of-room" error message.
But when I inadvertantly dragged the entire FOLDER full of hundreds of photos onto the card, it worked fine. I guess the card structure allows for a folder full of hundreds of photos, but not those same photos when they are not in a folder.

  • Geo load balancing and scaling

I am looking at the options for geographic load balancing and  thinking of setting up 2 or 3 regions initially.
Is there any data available for each of the regions in terms of latency for different countries/locations? I want to pick a number of key sites that give me best coverage for areas where I am seeing most traffic in google analytics .....
So as examples I want data to answer questions such as :
Would Texas give me significant gains in both north and south america? Would any areas not benefit?
Considering Australia, india and that part of the world generally would east/south asia be best?
How does that fair for Japan?
    etc. etc.
Secondly I want to auto scale. How does auto scaling work with the geographic load balancing?
What would be great is if I could scale all the way up or down (to nothing) based on a schedule in each region. So a fixed European instance , and scaling up on other continents during fixed time schedules. e.g. when India wakes up spin up a service in Asia.

Useful, but I'm not sure that answers my question fully.
Firstly it is for storage, but I guess would be a useful proxy measure.
Am I right in thinking that based on the below it will be testing from one of the below rather than my current location?
It would be useful if the latency test could be switched to be run from any hosting location.
"AzureSpeed.com is running in both Azure East Asia and West US data centers, with following 2 website endpoints
    azurespeedeastasia.azurewebsites.net ( Deloyment in East Asia )
    azurespeedwestus.azurewebsites.net ( Deployment in West US )"
Could I assume that because Microsoft have opted for from the above my best coverage globally would be be to use East Asia and West US?

  • Croping and sizing issues

I have been using lightroom 4 for about 5 months.  But I am having issues with croping and sizing of pictures.  When I use the crop tool it does not always draw the picture in closer. I do shoot in RAW and not in JPEG.    I was wodering if there is a setting that I am not using or its not avaiable.  Also when I export out of lightroom4 and convert them from RAW to JPEG I have sizing issues depending on what size the customer orders.  I have tried to export them out at certain sizes but its still not correct.  The only way I have found to do it is going into photoshop and sizing them correctly but its very time consumeing .  Any help would be great!!

You didn't tell us the desired output. All you said "...but its still not correct". What output are you trying to obtain?
Also, what do you mean "When I use the crop tool it does not always draw the picture in closer"? Normally, you drag a corner (or corners) of the crop rectangle to crop tighter. Are you doing this? Is it not working? Explain.

  • Cropping and scaling question

I have a simple question. Maybe it's an easy one. I'm making a movie. I'm shooting with a Panasonic dvx100 camera. Now in one scene, there's something I don't like at the edge of the frame (I should have zoomed in tighter). I tried cropping a little and scaling up to keep the frame at the same size. Is there any reason why I shouldn't do this? If there is, I can work around it. It's not imperative but it would be nicer. I guess what I'm wondering is if this will affect the quality of the video very much. It looks OK. I don't immediately see any big change in the quality. But If people advise me not to do this for some reason I will avoid it. I don't want to compromise the quality of the video.

I'm such a fool I'm not even sure what "DV25 codecs" is.
I'd love some simple directions about settings I should make sure I'm adhering to when I edit. I shot in 24p with my Panasonic dvx100.
    But what a fast reply!!!!
    Maybe you answered my question:
So if I don't scale more than 10% I'm kind of safe????
Because I'm not scaling more than that I don't think.
So if I keep it kind of slight I shouldn't worry?
And I guess it's just elementary that for each crop value I scale up the exact amount and there's no special reason to worry about this.
I mean I'm kind of a technical dolt. I just want to make sure I'm not messing up anything important as I edit my rather long movie.

  • ATV resolution and scaling

I'm a little confused about resolution and scaling. Currently I run my ATV through a projector which has a native resolution of 1280x720. As this exactly matches the ATV, I get a lovely picture.
I'm thinking of changing my projector for a plasma TV. Many plasma TVs are coming out in 1080i, which I think is more than I need as I will only be using it for ATV and as a 2nd monitor for my MBP. I'm also concerned about loss of image quality due to the upscaling from 720p. I'd rather get a TV that is 720p native, like my projector. However, this doesn't seem to be so simple. I've looked at a few TVs which claim to be 720p, yet all of them have a resolution of 1024x768. I understand there may be some around which are 1280x720, but all the ones within my budget seem to be 1024x768.
I would like to know how this different resolution is likely to affect my picture quality with ATV. I can see that 48 pixels can easily be lopped off to match 720, but what about the horizontal? Surely 1280 cannot be easily converted into 1024, at least not without a detrimental effect on picture quality?

I have an older Panasonic with a 1024x576 panel it's HD ready and accepts up to 1080p signals. I have a newer full 1080p Panasonic full 1920x1080 panel.
    Guess which I prefer?
The older one has picture quality that blows the other out of the water, but the main reason is I mainly watch SD stuff - I don't have an awful lot of commercial HD stuff though.
There's something about the old panel though that just looks smoother and more natural - probably a case of mature 1024x576 technology vs early 1080p technology, and poor upscaling of SD content.
I would like to know how this different resolution is likely to affect my picture quality with ATV. I can see that 48 pixels can easily be lopped off to match 720, but what about the horizontal? Don't worry about 'lopping off pixels', the 1024x576 panels are still 16:9 aspect ratio due to non-square pixel arrangements and scaling works very well with AppleTv 720p IMO.
So in some ways it may depend on what you're mainly watching, SD or HD - AppleTV should be fine with a 1024x576 panel. In general for plasmas/LCDs SD upscales quite poorly unless the sets have very good upscalers, so if you watch a lot of SD, a full HD set may give a worse subjective experience.

  • PDF printing incorrectly (unintentional cropping and scaling)

An 11x17 PDF prints correctly from 3 different computers in our office. It prints incorrectly from MY computer, as well as our client's computer in a different office. Although the PDF looks perfectly fine on the screen in Adobe Reader, the print scales itself to be larger (or smaller) than its supposed to be, causing unnecessary cropping (or extra white space) in the printed image.
The computers that are able to print it correctly sent the PDF to the same printer that my computer did. Also, at least 1 of these computers has the same version of Adobe Reader as mine (7.0), and was using the SAME EXACT print settings when sending it to the printer:
Choose paper source by PDF size was checked.
Page Scaling was set to None.
I do not know the Reader version or settings of my client's computer.
I do not know if this matters, but the PDF was created through AutoCAD using an Adobe plotter that creates a PDF of the layout/paperspace.
What can possibly account for the radical differences in prints from the SAME PDF?

...saved it as a PDF and when I print it out...
Are you printing from Illustrator or Acrobat (or Reader)?
I have checked all settings in the original file, the PDF and in the print properties for my printer and made sure that anything referring to automatic scaling is turned off.
What about in the print dialog in Reader or Acrobat (if that's what you're printing from)? Have you selected any page scaling options, like Fit to Printable Area or Shrink to Printable Area?

  • Text display and scaling issue

    Hello,
I don't know if this is done by design, but after I released our internal newspaper build on Flex, the number one complaint I received was that when zooming in, the space between the letter was not consistent and in some of the words, the letter are either too far spaced or glued to each other.
I build a little test app to demonstrate what I mean.
I will first post the results and then the code.
First here is a snapshot of text at scale 1: Everything looks great
Now, here is the same text at scale 1.5: (I only scale x and y, it never occur to me at first that I should use z as well)
Notice how crisp the text is but the downside are the distorded words: I highlighted a few in yellow.
So then I figured I give a shot to the z axis and scale that one as well: to my satisfaction the words keep their spacing but the crispiness of the text, not so good!
    Here is the little app:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <s:Application
    xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009" xmlns:s="

Did I miss something, a property that would adjust the fuzziness?
    Thanks for any input

I can use mobile skins for RichText and RichEditableText components for desktop and web projects, but there is a little problem. They have no mobile skins and they are paradoxically not recomended by adobe to use within mobile projects, because they are heavy. But they work great even if they are scaled. Do you still think that this is not a bug?
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/flex/mobileapps/WS19f279b149e7481c6a9f451212b87fe7e87-7fff.htm l#WS19f279b149e7481c6a9f451212b87fe7e87-7ffb
"Try to avoid using the RichText and RichEditableText controls in mobile applications. These controls do not have mobile skins, and they are not optimized for mobile applications. If you do use these controls, you are using TLF, which is computationally expensive."
Is there any chance that this bug will be resolved soon, or do I have to go back to 2004 and make my own class extended from TextField? :-))

  • Print preview and scaling

On an iMac I'm working on, when printing an email, Print Preview/Copies & Pages, the scaling is set to 50%. You can change it 100% and it prints, but defaults back to 50% the next time you print. I've looked everywhere I know for a scale preference, but I can't find anything. So is there a way to set the scale to 100% as default. This is happening with the Standard Preset. I know you can customize a Preset, but I want the 100% scale as part of the Standard Preset. That's the way it is on the other machines I use.

The page says that "this problem is solved". It's ridiculous.
The print dialogue in Preview is a disappointment to me. It tries to give a print preview, but you cannot change the print scale and see the effect at the same time on the left. ... So in this case is it a preview really.
Leopard is great, but... ; I mean you develop a great operating system, but you fail to do a easy printing task... It's ridiculous.

  • s:BitmapImage get image scaled size and position after it loaded and scaled

I am try to know the dimensions of the uploaded image into <s:BitmapImage without success.

  • Image Coordinates and Scaling

    Hi,
I'm creating and saving a BufferedImage with width and height 765. I'm then applying an scale AffineTransform of 3 on each axis.
Then I'm attempting to draw a rectangle with x1, y1, coordiantes of 3, which scales to 9, and x2, y2 coordinates of 252, which scales to 756. However, the rectangle always seems to overlap the bottom right corner of the image and I have no idea why. Here is the code i'm using:
    public class SaveImage{
         //constructor
         public SaveImage() {
              //Load the variable
// Create an image to save
             RenderedImage rendImage = myCreateImage();
// Write generated image to a file
             try {
                 // Save as JPEG
