Cross platform issues for Pro*C

Hi!,
Is it possible for me to use the C program I got using Pro*C in Win98(I have to use SQLCHECK=SEMANTICS) and make application in a unix(Solaris) machine? Is there any issue that I have to be aware of?(Everything except the SQL part in the .pc file are standard C).
Thanks,
Sreekumar

  • Cross platform issues with InDesign CS5 or earlier

    Potential client would like me (designer on a Mac) to design print docs which they can then edit on their PCs. Would love to hear feedback from others about any cross-platform issues/best practices suggestions. Thanks!

    No problem at all, the only thing you have to do is make sure you both have the same fonts in a flavour (Opentype) that you can both read.  So when you send them a Indesign document using these fonts they should be able to open it up on a PC without getting a "missing fonts" warning.  Once you've got that sorted you're away, I do exactly this all the time.
    Oh and of course you must have the same version of Indesign!  You can save back one version (or from CS5.5 to CS4) but it's not recommended for this type of workflow.

  • Can you still get a cross platform upgrade for CS3?

    I'm a mac user and recently purchased CS3 Design Premium for windows used -- does anyone know you can still get a cross platform upgrade from windows to mac without upgrading to CS4?

    I am very, very sorry to read that. My windows pc is just crashed because of a virus my payed anti-virus program could not deal with, and everything have to be cleared totally. (XP pro - browser used at the virus-time = Mozilla. Anti-virus program = The price winning PC-tools)
    Have to start all over again from scratch.
    Therefore I wanted to change to a new Mac machine for my CS3.
    I know I could upgrade to CS4, but do not need the CS4 for the time being, so I have to stay with Windows.
    Alle my other programs - Nikon - Topaz -  Nik-software - Hemi. - Jason Odell - have been so very helpfull and trusted me and have send me new keys - THANK YOU, you have a lot of problems when this problem happens, so they removed some of the stones, , but not Adobe, they said by telephone (I also tryed a mail, but no answer), that I have to sit at the pc for installing and then try to call them by telephone to get help for autentification, and nobody can promise me it will be the same day.
    Last time it took one and a half our to get through by telephone.
    I really love your program (CS3 extended) ....... but not this.

  • Forms, digital signatures, cross platform issues

    I am trying to implement pdf forms in an educational environment to utilize digital signatures and reduce paper. The form data does not need to go anywhere. It just stays in the form at this point. Some people on campus have Windows machines, others have Macs. All the Windows machines have Acrobat Pro installed and not Reader. The Mac people are more likely to have Reader. There have been problems with emailing these forms between platforms. Does anyone have any ideas about how to solve this? My IT department will not support Reader on Windows machines, so the forms have to work in Acrobat and Reader! How should the orginal document I put online be saved to work in both programs and platforms? What direction should I give the users about how to save the forms they fill out and sign? I've looked all over for this kind of info, but can't seem to find it. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. FYI, I am not an IT person. Thanks!!!

    For Mac users, it will be important that they don't use the Preview application to work with the forms. Preview is the default Mac PDF viewer out of the box, and it corrupts PDF forms when it saves them, so it really needs to be avoided.
    In order for Reader to save a filled-in form and apply digital signatures, the forms need to be Reader-enabled, which can be done with Acrobat Pro. Acrobat Standard can Reader-enable documents too, but it doesn't apply the digital signature usage right.
    The problem with this is if you will be getting the forms returned to you, you can only use data from no more than 500 instances for the form, including hardcopies. This is an Acrobat License Agreement restriction. If they won't be returned, there won't be a problem. Also, the Acrobat users don't need to use a Reader-enabled version, so you can collect all the forms you want from them.
    Email will be most reliable if the user manually attaches the file to an email, as opposed to setting up a button on the forms to submit to an email address. You'll find many threads here discussing the emailing difficulties with forms that are set up this way. The problems can be minimized with user education, as the manual process is available in either case. A submit button provides convenience, unless it doesn't work, and it won't for some users.

  • Cross Schema Issues for certain commands

    Within Raptor, there are some commands that don't legitimately work when you are manipulating tables outside of your own schema. The menu items for these should be greyed out. An example is if I want to move a table, the SQL for this command is:
    alter table "XXX" move.
    Since this SQL command doesn't allow for a schema, it fails with a misleading error message. ORA-00942 Table or view does not exist. For many DBA's it may be readily apparent as to why this error occurs, but for most future Raptor users they'll be confused.

    As root:
    /bin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/usr/sbin:/opt/mozilla/bin:/usr/bin/perlbin/site:/usr/bin/perlbin/vendor:/usr/bin/perlbin/core
    As normal user:
    ./:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin
    You got it in one Morra, a path issue. any reason why they are not the same by default? Solved the issue by copying the root PATH into my .bashrc, but it would be nice to know why they aren't the same.

  • Cross Platform issues working with an external hard drive

    Lightroom 4.0 on both machines -- Ok, I use MAC at school and Windows 7 at home.  I put all my files on an external hard drive named ALR which is mapped on my PC to drive L.  When I edit any photo at school and go back to the PC machine at home,  I get the cannot locate original picture in location //volumes//ALR// if I'm on the MAC after editing photo's at home on the PC, I get the message cannot locate L:\ALR .. etc.  It keeps looking for the drive designation from the other computer.  Weird to me is that all the files are located on my external hard drive and I do not move them from there, also my catalog is located on the external drive also (no lectures on this please, I back up and its for a lightroom class)  The professor has no idea why that is happening as he knows NOTHING about pc's..  Anyone else have an idea - in the big scope of things it is not a big deal, but it is just frustrating to have to remap my directory every time.

    Can we see a screenshot of the Folders panel please, before you remap it?  I just need to be clear on whether you're having to 'find missing folder' on a single folder (which is quite normal as Mac and Windows see the drive completely differently) or whether there's a different issue here.

  • Cross-platform library for launching browser

    Are there any Java libraries out there which launch external web browsers (such as the de facto browser or OS-configured default browser), which are up-to-date, function across the major platforms, and whose licenses do not preclude using them within a commercial product?
    I found http://ostermiller.org/utils/Browser.html, which looks great except that it's GPL. It seems the authors are concerned with someone modifying and selling their product, however I think the most common usage (which is not supported by their license, at least for commercial use) is to simply use it without modification. Too bad.
    I also found http://browserlauncher.sourceforge.net/. The project appears not to have been actively maintained since 2001. From reading the forums, there are some users/developers who have made bug fixes, which have not been folded back in.
    Anything else out there?
    Thanks,
    Jim

    You can build your own WebBrowser using swing API, as you mensioned above, the browsers I met before have a GPL license.
    Deitel has a WebBrowserPane class in its "Advanced Java How to Program" that implements the features of the Browser using the swing API, I tihnk it coded easily and you may get benifits from it...

  • Cross-Platform Development for Android and Windows PC

    Hi,
    Im trying to build a native Android app and port it over to windows.  Is there a way to build the Android App to minimize the recoding in Windows?
    Has anyone used CodeNameOne or Xamarin and, if so, what was your experience? Are there better alternatives or approaches?
    In case it makes a difference, is it better to build an app in Android and port to Windows (desktop) or build in Windows and port into Android?
    Thanks,

    Hello,
    Thank you for your post.
    I am afraid that the issue is out of support range of VS General Question forum which mainly discusses
    the usage of Visual Studio IDE such as WPF & SL designer, Visual Studio Guidance Automation Toolkit, Developer Documentation and Help System
    and Visual Studio Editor.
    As far as I know, Visual Studio does not support Android development. I suggest you should consulting your issue on Android forums for better support.
    For CodeNameOne and Xamarin, they are third-party tools, please consult on the forums/community provided by their authors.

  • Cross selling (one for pros)

    Hi,
    For me, one task I have left on my site is cross-selling
    products on my detail page. Cross selling, for those who dont know,
    is basically offering additional products that go well with the
    products they already sought up in the detail page. For instance,
    if they chose a flashlight, i might also want to offer them some
    batteries of the right kind.
    Anyways, the detail page works fine where the right product
    apears by looking at the the variable productID in the URL.
    Underneath I want to make an additional recordset (I guess this is
    the best way) with 6 items that fit well with this product. How do
    I do this? Do I need to make additional variables? How do I link
    the right cross sell items to the product above which is already
    linked from the master page?
    What I am basically asking is some pointers to get me in the
    right direction or even some more detailed ideas.
    Thanks.

    crossell.productsID, crosssell.crossellproductID -->
    >(one to many) products.ProductID.
    That looks like you are on the right track. The relationship
    looks fine, but in SQL you cannot reference the second instance of
    the products table directly - you need to create an alias. An alias
    in SQL is simply a virtual instance of the table.
    You have a few options here and I don't recall if the DW
    recordset GUI allows you to create an alias. But you should be able
    to write the freehand sql directly. The SQL will look something
    like:
    SELECT Products.Product ID, Products_1.Product ID
    FROM (Products INNER JOIN Crosssell ON Products.Product ID =
    Crosssell.ProductID) INNER JOIN Products AS Products_1 ON
    crosssell.crossSellProductID = Products_1.Product ID
    Here we've created an alias of the Products table called
    Products_1. (sidenote: your table names should be singular, not
    plural. So, Products should be changed to Product)
    Another option is to create a query in Access that links the
    tables. Access will automatically create the alias for you if you
    select a table more than once in a query. Then just reference the
    Access query in your ASP page the same as you would a table.
    Well, something is defenitly going right...and some stuff is
    definetly still not okay :).
    I think that we were successfull in creating a virtual
    instance of something, when i test this sql I indeed get the two
    test results that i entered in the crossell table. only, the
    dreamweaver recordset now shows me two workable values:
    recordset2.productID and then again recordset2.productID :). So, I
    guess the productId's of both the detail page item is showing as is
    the productID of the cross sell product, but necesarry stuff like
    the price variable, name variable etc from the table products are
    still missing which i do need.
    what am i doing wrong?

  • XSLT Transformation Cross-platform issue

    Hi,
    Let's go straight to the point: the following code works fine on a Windows system, but gives me a ClassNotFoundException zibog.context.XSLAccessPoint when run on a Mac OS X system. The XSL Stylesheet uses Xalan to call static methods from this class.
    Here's the code:
             OutputManager.getInstance().writeWorkflowLog(System.currentTimeMillis(), WORKFLOW_MESSAGE);
        // Get a Transformer Factory
             TransformerFactory tFactory = TransformerFactory.newInstance();
             javax.xml.transform.Transformer transformer = null;
        // Get the extractor XSL script as a stream
             InputStream extractorAsStream = getClass().getClassLoader().getResourceAsStream(XSL_EXTRACTOR_PATH);
              File temp = null;
         // Create own FileOutputStream for the transformer to be able
         // to close it for file suppression.
              FileOutputStream outputStream = null;
              try {
         // Create the transformer with the extractor stream
                   transformer = tFactory.newTransformer(
                                            new StreamSource(extractorAsStream));
                   temp = new File(TEMP_FILE);
                   temp.createNewFile();
                   outputStream = new FileOutputStream(temp);
                   OutputManager.getInstance().writeDebugLog(System.currentTimeMillis(), transformer.getClass().toString() + " - " + transformer.toString());
         // Run the extractor script
                   transformer.transform(new StreamSource(xmlFilePath),
                                              new StreamResult(outputStream));
              } catch (TransformerConfigurationException e) {
                   throw new ExtractorException(TRANSFORMER_CREATION_ERROR_MESSAGE +
                                                      e.getMessage());
              } catch (IOException e) {
                   throw new ExtractorException(IO_ERROR_MESSAGE + e.getMessage());
              } catch (TransformerException e) {
                   throw new ExtractorException(TRANSFORMATION_ERROR_MESSAGE +
                                                      e.getMessage());
              } finally {
                   if(temp != null) {
                        if(outputStream != null) {
                             try {
                                  outputStream.close();
                             } catch (IOException e) {
                        temp.delete();
              }It fails at the transformation line, and I don't understand why it gives me this error on a mac. In fact, it works fine on a mac if a run it with an Ant script, for example, but it fails when I run it using the Eclipse plug-in I developped with. But I'm POSITIVELY sure that no code in my plug-in can cause that, so maybe the Mac Eclipse does things differently and messes up with the transformation...
    Any help?
    Thanks.

    After a big load of tests and things, we found that the Mac OS X Eclipse used a different Xalan.jar than the one that was given with my plug-in, and that it messed up with the transformation. With tried things, without success, then finally we installed the last stable release of Eclipse 3.2 for Mac OS X, and it worked fine, despite always using this different xalan.jar.
    I really hate it when problems solve themselves like that, because I can't guess what didn't work. I can only suppose that it was a wrong way of handling this Jar by the previous releases of Eclipse.
    Well, that was for your information, thanks for the suggestions!

  • Cross-platform issues with Initial View

    When I specify my Initial View setting on Acrobat Pro (10.1.9) on my Mac, they are not honoured when the PDF is opened on a Windows machine. I've noticed this specifically with the Page Layout view. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi Bill.
    I open the PDF in Acrobat Pro, then go to File > Properties (cmd + D), choose the Initial View tab and change the setting there. I then OK that and save the PDF. When I open the same PDF again on the Mac (in either Reader or Acrobat Pro) the settings I made are honoured. When I open the same PDF on a Windows machine, they're not.

  • Cross-Platform issue

    Hi,
    I'm working on some application, with a small bit of GUI in it. At the beginning of the program, I call:
    try {
                   UIManager.setLookAndFeel(UIManager.getSystemLookAndFeelClassName());
              } catch (Exception e) { ...Then I use a class extending JFrame, and sometimes a JFileChooser.
    It works file on Windows XP, but when I try it on a Mac OS 10, it blocks at the frame or file chooser instanciation, like if it was stuck in an infinite loop.
    I tried without specifying the look and feel, to use the Java one, but it was the same.
    Can someone help me with this?
    Thank you in advance,
    Thomas

    Can anyone help? Or at least tell me that it's not normal and that it should work?
    Thanks.

  • Old Macromedia - Adobe cross platform font issues

    This message is more directed to Adobe.
    I am aware that currently OpenType fonts are cross platform compatible but only with Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.
    However, my primary workspace is Fireworks-Flash. There are serious cross platform issues with fonts - I have looked at truetype, postscript and opentype and they all have issues translating onto PC - many of the styles are not available.
    In our studio I design on Mac but our Flash developers are on PC - our final renders and review renders always need to happen on Mac as a result of this cross platform issue. This is a little inefficient.
    When is Adobe planning on resolving this issue?

    "I am aware that currently OpenType fonts are cross platform
    compatible but only with Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign."
    No, they are fully cross-platform compatible. The Adobe products you
    mention, along with a very few others, are the only applications
    capable of taking full advantage of the advanced features available in
    some opentype fonts. And even the three products you mention don't all
    necessarily support open-type in the same way.
    "However, my primary workspace is Fireworks-Flash. There are serious
    cross platform issues with fonts - I have looked at truetype,
    postscript and opentype and they all have issues translating onto PC -
    many of the styles are not available."
    If you are using the same application version on both platforms, you
    should have identical functionality. If you're using an older version
    of Fireworks.
    The only cross-platform style issue with TT or T1 fonts is that
    Windows doesn't recognize any styles other than Regular, Bold, Italic,
    and Bold Italic. Also, there's a font menu difference between MacOS
    and Windows. Mac display all available styles, whereas Windows only
    displays the family name, and you have to select the variants from
    somewhere else (typically "B" "I" "U" buttons). SOME font families
    from some vendors use the style function to define such variants as
    Small Caps, Light, etc. MS products get ... confused.
    "In our studio I design on Mac but our Flash developers are on PC -
    our final renders and review renders always need to happen on Mac as a
    result of this cross platform issue. This is a little inefficient."
    If you're using different applications for design and rendering, and
    their functionality is different, then you have a cross-application
    compatibility issue. You didn't mention what applications or versions
    are involved.
    "When is Adobe planning on resolving this issue?"
    It may be more a Microsoft issue than an Adobe issue. In addition to
    the style limitations, There are no MS products that yet support
    open-type features.
    Although Adobe personnel do sometimes visit here, this is not a
    "talk-to-Adobe' forum. Since your problem is application related, I'd
    suggest taking it to the appropriate application forumsFireworks
    General Discussion looks right.
    And, as Bob said, you might also contact Adobe support directly with
    your concerns.

  • Recommendations for cross-platform software development?

    I'm considering developing a new shareware product and I'd like for it to be able to run on both OS X and Windows, and Linux too if that ends up not requiring too much more effort.
    I've been a Java programmer for many years now, making Java in some ways a very obvious solution. But I've never been all that pleased with the look and the performance of Java Swing GUIs. Swing isn't all that bad for some uses, but it can be clumsy in many ways (like Mac open/save file dialogs), doesn't always get the look-and-feel of a particular platform quite right, misses many platform-specific features one might want to access -- in short, Java-based apps seldom manage to have the fit-and-finish of off-the-shelf, shrink-wrapped commercial software.
    I could stick with Java and try out the SWT toolkit (it's better at getting native look-and-feel, and native performance) for building a GUI, but from what I've read SWT has its limitation as well, and besides, because of the nature of the product I have in mind -- something dealing with audio and music -- a lot of the open source code I'd like to incorporate into my product is written in C or C++, and I might need to do some low-level driver work too. Trying to bridge all of that into a Java app with lots of JNI work doesn't seem like the best route to take.
    I could learn C# and use Mono to make my stuff work for OS X, but, although I've never worked with C# and whatever standard GUI libraries one would typically use with C#, I suspect that it will work best for Windows and be kind of iffy for Mac use.
    All this said, I'm fairly certain that, after many years away from it, the best thing for me to do is get back into using C++ for this project.
    From my cursory preliminary research, the best looking C++ cross-platform development library I've seen so far is Qt from Trolltech. It's also very expensive from the viewpoint of a start-up operation -- a few thousand dollars, even with a 65% discount given to small start-ups.
    There's the totally free, open-source wxWidgets, but it sounds like wxWidgets' Mac support isn't the greatest, and it sounds like it's noticeably buggier than Qt. Maybe it would still be good enough for my uses, but I don't know that yet -- which is one reason I'm writing this post, hoping others have had some experience with it.
    Anyone know any other C++ cross platform toolkits for general GUI application development? One article I read said:
    If your needs are a free cross-platform environment, then wxWidgets is your best and only solution. However, for under $100, you can find a cross-platform environment with a much better Macintosh user experience than wxWidgets.
    I can't seem to find any of these better-than-wxWidgets, under-$100 solutions, however. Suggestions, anyone?

    Hi--
    I think, from looking at that page he must be talking about the CPLAT framwork. It's kind of hard to figure out from that page, but he's got another page with information on CPLAT here.
    It looks like it's $50 for the license. You can also look at the official CPLAT site for more info. I've never used it, though, so I can't really say whether it's any good or not. But there is a trial version available...
