Crossdomain.xml Not Loading

This may be a newb question. I’m trying to figure out why my swf file, running from localhost, is bypassing the crossdomain.xml when loading a xml file from a remote domain.
I stored the crossdomain.xml at the root of the domain.
http://www.mydomain.com/crossdomain.xml
When I checked the HTTP headers, there’s no request sent out to get the crossdomain.xml file.
Another issue is that the Security.sandboxType is always localTruested. Could that be the reason that the swf file is not checking the crossdomain.xml? If so, how can i change the sandboxType.
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks

Can you look at the name of the file you're loading before you load it? So, if it contains .swf don't load? Aside from that, you can get the content type before the image/file is finished loading. You do it with the LoaderInfo object... something like this:
var loader:Loader = new Loader();
loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.INIT, initHandler);
function initHandler(event:Event):void {
var loader:Loader = Loader(event.target.loader);
var info:LoaderInfo = LoaderInfo(loader.contentLoaderInfo);
trace(info.contentType);
If you load a jpeg you will see: image/jpeg
If you load a .swf you will see: application/x-shockwave-flash

• Apache proxypass and crossdomain.xml not working

Hi everyone,
I have the following problem. I have set up jboss on a Linux server connecting to local port 8080 (localhost:8080).
I have opened the application on port 80 with Apache ( www.myDomain.com) and set up a virtual host that proxies
this connection to localhost:8080 where jboss is listening.
<VirtualHost *:80>
DocumentRoot /var/www/nyDomain
ServerName myDomain.com
Alias /crossdomain.xml /var/www/html/crossdomain.xml
# proxy pass to the jboss server
<IfModule mod_proxy.c>
ProxyRequests Off
<Proxy *>
Order deny,allow
Deny from all
Allow from all
</Proxy>
ProxyPass /Stylect http://127.0.0.1:8081/Stylect
ProxyPassReverse /Stylect http://127.0.0.1:8081/Stylect
# ProxyPreserveHost on
</IfModule>
</VirtualHost>
The crossdomain.xml file is at the root of the server and can be accessed with www.mydomain.com/crossdomain.xml
<cross-domain-policy>
<site-control permitted-cross-domain-policies="master-only"/>
<allow-access-from domain="*" to-ports="*" secure="false"/>
<allow-http-request-headers-from domain="*" headers="*"/>
</cross-domain-policy>
I can see in firebug that it's being downloaded when I first request the page - this is the response:

<frame frameborder="0" noresize />
</frameset>

Yet I still get a 2048 sandbox violation error.
The crossdomain is needed because the proxied request
appears to be coming from the public ip while jboss
is bound to the local host.
If I expose Jboss directly to the web all works well but there
are too many security issues in that setup. Apache as a front is
much better.
The question is: is this the correct response I should be getting
(or should it be directly the xml file) and why is it not working?
How can I fix this?
Any help much appreciated. I'm stuck.

Try adding security="false" inside the next line:
<allow-access-from domain="*"/>
so it would look something like
<allow-access-from domain="*" security="false" />
It fixed the problem for me.

• Crossdomain.xml Not Working

Ok, so first off, my environment. I'm working on a flash
application that resides on the web server (192.168.1.74) and the
data its pulling is from a device (192.168.1.77).
On .77 I have a crossdomain.xml. I have attached the
crossdomain.xml file.
The problem I'm having is that while watching the data
communication in a network sniffer, after the GET for
/crossdomain.xml happens, about 75% of the time, nothing gets
returned. When the XML file DOES get returned, there's a HTTP OK
message... and then that's it. None of the communication between
the app and the server happens.
Now, when I run this application in the Flash developer
program thing, it works fine (I'm on .64) so I know the flash code
works. So its either a Browser issue or my crossdomain.xml file is
wrong in some way.

Try adding security="false" inside the next line:
<allow-access-from domain="*"/>
so it would look something like
<allow-access-from domain="*" security="false" />
It fixed the problem for me.

• XML not loading in SWF

Please, please someone help. I have been at this for days and can't see the woods for the trees any more.
I have a swf embedded in a htm file. I pass FlashVars to it with a view to setting colours for symbols already in the swf.
No matter what I do I simply cannot get the xml loaded. Can someone help and have a look at the following code and tell me where I am going wrong.
I am using Flash CS4/AS 3. The default class is com.main and all .AS files are located in a folder 'com' within the root. All fla. .swf and .xml files are located in the root.

• Flash/AS3/XML - not loading after XML edits

HI all,
I apologize in advance for not being able to give a lot of information. I'm working with a proprietary template for e-learning and trying to get it to work. But, regardless, here's the situation.
Building e-learning using a Flash and AS3 template that has several parts and relies on one XML file for all content. There is an index (Flash) page that serves as the shell for the entire module. That index page 'hosts' a language selection menu, main menu, and the stage for .swf files that are 'pages' of each chapter. Each 'page' has several 'clips' inside of it (images, text, audio, etc.).
The XML is structured as such (N = number of items total, X = specific number of that item):
<xml>
<course (with title and several other attributes)>
<chapter type="chapter" title="Title of Chapter">
<page>
<file>pagedirectory/pageX...N.swf</file>
<clipX1...N audio='audiodirectory/audio_X...N'> If there is any on-screen text, this is where it goes.</clipX...N>
<ccX...N>This is for the closed captioning; all script/audio text is here.</ccX...N>
</page>
</chapter>
etc. for as many chapters as there are.
The XML file structure is a little odd, but it works...usually. For some reason though, I broke it.
I put in "chapter 0" which is the introduction. Everything runs smoothly, but then when I add another chapter, the main menu won't load. I assumed this to be something in my XML syntax; however, I've checked over it, including the new stuff I added. BTW: The main menu is populated by the "Chapter" attributes in the XML.
So, I guess my question is two-fold, and I understand that I may only get very general answers (or questions that relate to specifics):
Are there things in XML files that when used by AS/Flash simply don't work? I've already checked for "&" and other characters... but are there some other ones?
Any other guesses as to why the main menu loads when only one chapter is in the XML, but not when there are two? Again, I've check for tag accuracy, etc. What could I be missing though?
Thanks!
Andy

Update. Flash preview gives me this error:

• XML file not loading in FF from server

I've created a web page that loads an external XML file and
then uses javascript code to parse the file for requested
information. I know it's not the best way to do this, but I'm
trying to get this working before I move on to "better" methods.
When I run the page using the "Preview/Debug in browser"
funtionality of DW everything works great both in IE and FF. But
when I load the page to the server and then load the page in a

just not loading the XML file. I can't figure out why the page
would work if launched from DW, but not work if the page is loaded
on the server and then run from there, and only in FF.
The code I'm using to load the XML file is supposed to be
cross-browser compatible. I've seen many versions like from various
sources, so it should be OK. I'm pretty new to all of this so I'm
hoping that I'm just missing something simple. Does anyone have any
idea why this is behaving this way?
Thanks for any help.

• Why is the Shockwave player not requesting the root crossdomain.xml

Hi,
I have a Director movie (DCR) that is presented to visitors to my website. The DCR is actually downloaded from a separate Content Delivery Network (CDN).
On startup, the DCR connects to my original website to retrieve some additional information that is presented to the visitor. But because the DCR comes the CDN, when it attempts to access my website a warning dialog appears informing the visitor that the DCR is attempting to access another site and asking them to allow or deny access.
I did some reading of the Adobe docs and found that from version 11.5, the Shockwave player will skip this dialog if the referenced domain includes a cross domain policy file that permits access. The movie can load a specific policy from the target domain, but if it doesn't the docs say that the player will read the default crossdomain.xml from the root of the target network.
So I created and deployed the default crossdomain.xml as described in the documentation and redeployed my application. However, when the DCR started the same dialog appeared warning about the cross domain reference and asking me to allow or deny it.
I thought perhaps there was an error in how I deployed the cross domain file, but when I checked more closely I discovered that Shockwave player never even requested the file from the target server.
Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening? Am I missing some step that is required to make the player request the default cross domain policy file?
Thanks in advance for any help people can offer.
Damian

I thought this had been fixed in the latest version of the installer, but perhaps not. Try the option suggested in this thread

• Crossdomain.xml file not being called by the SWF

Hi,
I'm serving an swf file compiled using flex builder 3.2 through plain HTTP, the SWF file calls a service in the same domain through HTTPS, as such, I put the following file in the root directory of my web server:

<cross-domain-policy>
<allow-access-from domain="*" secure="false" />
</cross-domain-policy>
and name it crossdomain.xml
When the service is invoked, I get the following error: [RPC Fault faultString="Security error accessing url" faultCode="Channel.Security.Error" faultDetail="Destination: DefaultHTTP"]
When I check the access log files of my web server (Apache), there's no entry for crossdomain.xml (it is not being requested), why?
When I serve the SWF through HTTPs it works OK ... any ideas?
I have tried in several machines (different browsers, different versions of Flash player) and no success.

I am also experiencing the exact same problem. I'm not able to change the crossdomain.xml file located in the root directory and am going to try creating a new policy file in a sub directory. The problem I'm having is that my web service is called from a virtual path and I do not know where to save this new policy file.
Have you tried to load in a specific policy file?
Security.loadPolicyFile( "http://yourdomain.com/policyFile.xml" );
Also, you may want to check which sandbox your swf file is in. flash.system.Security.sandboxType. This could be another cause to the error. My swf file is in the "remote" sandbox.

XML FAILED TO LOAD! (undefinedtfile_main.xml)
Fout bij openen van URL 'file:////Volumes/Macintosh%20HD/Users/ralreclame/Desktop/undefinedtf ile_main.xml'
flash folder looks like this:
I also tried placing the xml-file outside the xml_folder. Did not work either.
code in the first frame looks like this:
Stage.align = "MC";
Stage.scaleMode = "noScale";
_root.gall = url="tfile";
_root.cacheKiller = "true";
_root.road = _root.xmlUrl;
_root.r_p = _root.imagesFolder;
import gs.dataTransfer.XMLParser;
function onFinish(success_boolean, results_obj, xml) {
//This fhunction gets called as soon as the XML loads and gets parsed.
if (success_boolean) {
trace(1);
play();
stop();
var parsed_obj = {};
//We'll use this to hold the parsed xml object (once the XML loads and gets parsed successfully).
var unCash = new Date().getTime();
if (_root.cacheKiller == "true") {
fileToLoad = _root.road+url+"_main.xml?cacheKiller="+unCash;
fileToLoad = _root.road+url+"_main.xml";
} else {
fileToLoad = _root.road+url+"_main.xml";
XMLParser.load(fileToLoad, onFinish, parsed_obj);
Hopefully anyone can help me out here!
grtz Roel

Thanx for the reply! my flash folder looks like this:
and i inserted the value this way >>
Stage.align = "MC";
Stage.scaleMode = "noScale";
_root.gall = url="tfile";
_root.cacheKiller = "true";
_root.road = _root.xmlUrl;
_root.r_p = _root.imagesFolder;
_root.xmlUrl; = "xml_folder/"            <<
import gs.dataTransfer.XMLParser;
function onFinish(success_boolean, results_obj, xml) {
//This fhunction gets called as soon as the XML loads and gets parsed.
if (success_boolean) {
trace(1);
play();
stop();
var parsed_obj = {};
//We'll use this to hold the parsed xml object (once the XML loads and gets parsed successfully).
var unCash = new Date().getTime();
if (_root.cacheKiller == "true") {
fileToLoad = _root.road+url+"_main.xml?cacheKiller="+unCash;
fileToLoad = _root.road+url+"_main.xml";
} else {
fileToLoad = _root.road+url+"_main.xml";
XMLParser.load(fileToLoad, onFinish, parsed_obj);
The movie now shows in the preview so no more load error. One step further.
But the links from the XML file are stil not working. When i preview the movie in flash i get "undefined" 5 times (i got 5 links in the xml file) It looks like this>>>
any idea where that comes from??
Thanks Again.

• Since installing the latest update, Firefox will not load; it gives me the following error -- XML Parsing Error: not well formed.

since installing the latest update, Firefox first operated with some errors but now will not load at all; it gives me the following error --
XML Parsing Error: not well formed
locations chrome://browser/content/browser.xml
Line Number 1191, column 20:
utton id="back-forward-dropmarker" type="menu" chromedir="&locale.dir;"-------------------
please note that the words "utton ID" are exactly as the error message gives it; and at the end of the message there are exactly 19 hyphens.
I don't know why this faulty code is referencing things to do with "chrome"... the Chrome browser is not installed on this PC or anywhere on our network.
Also, this is not the first problem I had after clicking Firefox's prompt for the latest update. Before Firefox retreated into this error message, it was loading but running with some faults...
1. the bookmark symbol was not appearing on the right hand side of the URL line, so I had always to click on "bookmark this page", after which the bookmark symbol did appear; however I don't know if the bookmarking function worked properly.
2. the back and forward buttons were not highlighted, as if I had not come from a previous page; so once I clicked on a link to a new page I could not go back to where I came from because Fiefox thought I hadn't come from anywhere.
3. there may have been other errors, but I did not find them.
How do I reinstate my Firefox program to work properly please? do I have to download the latest version and reinstal? if so, do I have to remove the old version first? or is there a fix?
Even to write this message I have been forced to use (yuk -- I don't like to say this!!!) Internet Explorer. So please -- I need help urgently.
Thanks,
NOEL

Some how I solved my problem by opening a user account and downloading Firefox 4.0 beta and installing it, I did try it, worked fine, so I did close the user account and did go back to my own account(switched user), the main page that I had problem with Firefox which would not open, I dabble click on Firefox it start working again!! I hope that solves your problem too.
firefox will not open, it gives me this cod and would not turn off, Error on switching in renew: NS_ERROR_UNEXPECTED, Component returned failure code: 0x8000ffff (NS_ERROR_UNEXPECTED) [nsIPrefBranch.getCharPref] id: none

• IOError in IE but not in Firefox (possible crossdomain.xml problem)

Yesterday, I hopefully debugged a problem that is occuring for our application in IE but not in Firefox.
It has to do with accessing remote content from a separate domain.
In every aspect it APPEARS to be a crossdomain.xml issue but the fact that this issue only arrises in IE is what has prompted me to post here.
We have a solution in the works (bureaucratically speaking) but I want to double check here.
Our application is on domain "a.domain".
It access an xml file on "b.domain/xml/".
And finally (this is the tricky part) it also accesses an xml file at "b.domain/forwardingPath/" which is actually forwarded to "c.domain/xml/".
The crossdomain.xml is located at "b.domain/crossdomain.xml".
The request for "b.domain/xml/anXMLFile.xml" works without any problem.
The request for "b.domain/forwardingPath/anotherXMLFile.xml" succeeds in Firefox but not in IE (remember, the ACTUAL request is forwarded to "c.domain/xml/anotherXMLFile.xml").
In IE I get an IOError.
I believe we need an appropriate crossdomain.xml file also located at "c.domain/crossdomain.xml" and have put in that request. What I want to confirm is whether this understanding is correct. I am not a server-side person at all. It's all elves and fairies to me. And then finally, why the hell is this behavior inconsistent between IE and Firefox? Is the Firefox version of flash player violating its own security standards?!
I am cross-posting this at stack overflow.  http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7395931/ioerror-in-ie-but-not-in-firefox-possible-cross domain-xml-problem

I've pinged our developers about this and here's what they have to say:
"We did some work for the plugin around redirects andhence the correct behavior on Firefox.
AFAIK, on IE we don't get notified of the redirect and can't participate in making security decisions during redirect scenarios. This behavior is out of our control.
There is a workaround documented in the AS3docs here: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/flash/system/LoaderCont ext.html#checkPolicyFile
Here is the pertinent paragraph:
Be careful with checkPolicyFile if you are downloading anobject from a URL that may use server-side HTTP redirects. Policy files arealways retrieved from the corresponding initial URL that you specify inURLRequest.url. If the final object comes from a different URL because of HTTPredirects, then the initially downloaded policy files might not be applicableto the object's final URL, which is the URL that matters in security decisions.If you find yourself in this situation, you can examine the value ofLoaderInfo.url after you have received a ProgressEvent.PROGRESS orEvent.COMPLETE event, which tells you the object's final URL. Then call theSecurity.loadPolicyFile() method with a policy file URL based on the object'sfinal URL. Then poll the value of LoaderInfo.childAllowsParent until it becomes true."

• XML Form Builder does not load

I am having the following problem, when executing the Form Builder tool under Content Management, it does not load and i get the following error message:
CONNECTION ERROR: couldn't read response code*
And sometimes the window gets freezed.
I have read some previous Threads regarding this issue but the solution did not work to me.
Someting really strange is happening because if i log to port 80 (http://...) it works, but when I log to port 50000 (https://...) it does not, and that error message pops up.

Don't know what can be, so if anyone has any idea it would be very helpful.
Cheers,

Hello,
Immediately after opening the XML forms editor from the Content Manager page, you will get a link Start Environment Check Tool.... Click on that and proceed for a check. It will take some 5-10 mins based on your connection speed.If every thing is successful, clear the browser cache and restart the browser and open forms editor again. It will open the data schema and properties filed and project browser and all.
I was having this problem just now and i resolved it with the above steps.
My JRE version is 1.6 and portal is EP 7 SPS 21 patched.
