Crw32.exe crashes

I have a problem running Crystal Reports XI.
As soon as I try to move a field from the field explorer into a report I get a message that says:
crw32.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
After that I get:
The instruction at "0x5ad71531" referenced memory at "0x00000014". The memory can not be "read".
The program is installed localy on my computer.
I have tried to reinstall Crystal Report, but I get the same result when I try to use it again.
I have also tried to first uninstall and then install it again, but no difference in behavier from the program.
Earlier I  used 64bit Vista, but I am now using 32bit XP. Could that be the problem? If so, what should I do?
Or do someone know how to solve my problem with a crashing Crystal?
I hope that someone can help me.

Hello,
Any new OS's like Vista and Windows 7 is not supported nor tested. XP however it should work.
Likely what the problem is is permissions to the registry or various folders etc. Be sure you are the local PC administrator when you install CR and install for all users. Also check the Anti-Virus software to make sure it's not blocking any installing of our dll's and registry updates.
It could also be DEP ( Data Execution Prevention ) CR XI was not supported on Windows with DEP enabled, it's not aware of DEP so you have to completely disable it when installing or at least set it to Essential Services only. You'll find DEP in System Properties.
If you upgrade to CR XI R2, which you can do for free and then get patched to Service Pack 6 it is supported and DEP aware on Vista and Windows 7.
Do not un-install XI, install XI R2 and then use your XI keycode when installing.
Thank you
Don

I don't know if this is the correct area to post this but here goes.
I have just gotten my windows 7 computer operating system reloaded and Crystal VI has developed problems. When I close a report the application crashes with the following details:

Crystal ran fine prior to having to reload the operating system. I have tried changing the compatibility mode (all of them) but the problem remains. The error log shows the same information as above.
I have tried reloading the program and again the problem remains.
    Any Ideas???

    Hi,
Well, the only issue I see here is the version of Crystal Reports. CR XI (11.0.x.x) is certainly not supported on Windows 7.
From what I know, Windows 7 supports CR 2008 SP3.
Since CR XI R2 is a free upgrade, meaning you can use the same license key, I would recommend that you upgrade to the latest Service Pack (SP6) available for CR XI R2.

  • Crw32.exe crash

I've been able to run the application once. I have a 30 day trial license to evaluate the software and integration to our software but now I cannot move forward.
I ran once, loaded a report file from a previous version, migrated it to the new version and saved it. Now every time I attempt to run the report designer to create or modify a report, I get a spash screen showing the number of days left and then the application crashes. I'm not even loading any reports or anything. I can't get that far.
I've un installed all versions and then reinstalled  the cr2008sp3 full build. I still have the same issue. If I use the Crystal Reports control in Visual Studio, the wizard starts but when I attempt to connect to one of our tables, I am unable to do so. We are using Fox Pro style tables but I don't know how this would cause the crash in cr232.exe because I haven't even gotten to the point where I can even load a blank report.
FWIW, I'm running Win7(64) on my workstation.

    Hello,
Next step is to use [Modules |https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100006252802008E/modules.zip]or ProcessMontior from Microsoft and look at the list of dll's it's loading. Likely you are loading either a newer or older version of a DB file from some other folder and that CR is should be loading from our folder. Likely a file related to your database drivers. If your Client is in the PATH statement try removing it as a test and see if that works, or at least gets you closer before crashing.
I suspect that CR is loading part of the driver and then it loads the other part from the DB client from another location and the 2 versions do not work together and thus causes CR to crash. Look in the App log of your Event Viewer, it may give you a clue or if you know how to use DebugDiag it can tell you what dll crw32.exe is crashing in other than crw32.exe.
I've found that the mojority of the time those old DBF and JET and really old PC type DB's just simply do not function properly on new OS's, can be because they simply never get updated or the new security restictrictions MS has put inplace along with Anti-virus software and even firewall software just block access to the DB and CR dependencies. Explains why CR just crashes, AV software is blocking access and CR can't handle the next step, CR assumes it has full Admin access to all resources. YOu could try right clicking on crw32.exe and selectiong Run As Administrator to see if that gets you farther. If it does then it is a permission issue.
Bttom line is old PC type DB's should be dropped and you should move to a SQL type DB like MS SQL Server Express or even Access, both are fully supported and use ODBC and full SQL Query support.
We have moved away from native PC drivers because most won't work on 64 bit OS's or they don't support 64 bit platforms. The market is moving towards ODBC as a common DB connector, if your DB doesn't have one then you either should write your own, if you go to DataDirect.com you can download their SDK to write your own, and as long as you follow ANSI 92 Standards CR should work fine with your driver. I believe Microsoft has a SDK kit you can use also. Or go to the makers of the ODBC driver you tried and see if they can finish it.
Oh and I should mention that even if you create a case to escalate the issue and track it as a bug it's not likely going to get fixed, other than handling the crash more gracefully. We are moving away from supporting PC type DB's directly and only supporting them through ODBC. You can see this in the Platforms PDF files for each version.
    Good luck

  • Crystal Reports 2008 Trial crashes; crw32.exe error; any fix?

I downloaded the trial for Crystal Reports 2008 and I can open the application fine, but when I go to create a report and click on the u201CCreate New Connectionu201D for the database I get a Just-in-time error for crw32.exe and my application shuts down.
Iu2019ve been trying to look for a resolution in your forums but could not find anything.  I check for updates it says there are none; I've uninstalled and reinstalled already didn't fix it; I've download sp1 manually and installed but no luck.
I do have MS SQL Server 2008 installed on my system, could this be causing some problems?
I'm running Windows XP, also have VS .NET 2003 installed, but I'm only wanting to use CR 2008 application.
Similar to this existing problem: An unhandled Win32 exception occurred in crw32.exe 5048. Crystal 2008 Crash
I cannot uninstalled SQL Server 2008 because I need it.

    Hi Henry,
Crystal Reports 2008 is not officially tested with SQL Server 2008.
    Try with this:
    1. Reduce the 'Hardware acceleration' setting in Microsoft Windows.
    2. To access the 'Hardware acceleration' setting in Microsoft Windows:
    Click Start > Settings > Control Panel > System > Display > Settings > Advanced > Troubleshooting.
There are typically six possible settings for 'Hardware acceleration': from 'None' to 'Full'.
If you are using Dual monitor run the CR application on primary monitor cause Dual monitor is not tested with CR.
If still the issue occurs then manually un-install and reinstall the application.

  • An unhandled Win32 exception occurred in crw32.exe 5048. Crystal 2008 Crash

I have been using Crystal Reports 2008 with no problem. I have recently installed the trial version of Crystal Server 2008 and am encountering a problem where the reports are now crashing when I try to edit them within Crystal. It happens at various times, but particularly when trying to update a parameter field or add one to a report. The Visual Studio Just-In-Time Debugger window pops up, listing as a possible debugger "New Instance of Visual Studio 2005". An line at the top of the window shows "An unhandled Win32 exception occurred in crw32.exe 5048.
We were using .Net v2.0, I've upgraded to v3.0 and no change.  I've turned off DEP.
I uninstalled Server 2008 and all started working fine again.  Reinstalled Server 2008 with antivirus etc disabled, and the problem returns, the reports keep crashing.
    Getting desperate, any suggestion please?
    Regards, Diane

Im running CR XI Prod. Ver. 11.0.0.1282.  The report that im writing is pulling tables from an Oracle 10g database. The report already has 5 tables with links redefined. At this point the report is beautiful.
Need to add a new field from a new table. No problem adding the new table. Its when i try to delete the default links to this new table , or any other table and hit OK, the program crashes 100% of the time.
If i remove the new table from the list, normal functionality is restored and i can delete any link as i see fit. Without problem.
There is nothing special about this new table that is being added. I can "Browse data..." by R-Clicking on the field names in Field Explorer and see the values without problem. If i add any of the fields to the report, the report doesnt run because the links are incorrect.  Which is what im trying to fix and CR XI crashes 100% of the time.
    Thanks in advance.
Ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Ive tried rebooting, even tried on another computer.
Operating systems being used are Windows XP SP 3. No bugs/viruses/trojans or worms, clean systems.

Can you go to Microsoft's site again and download debugdiag 1.1. Run it and set it to create the dump file for crw32.exe when it crashes. You can analyze it also and it may tell you what dll is causing the issue.
What happens if you create a new report, save it, close the designer and then open that new report  and try to delete one of them? Could be just an issue with your existing reports.
If that doesn't resolve then I suggest you purchase a case and get one of our Rep's to help debug this on line.
You have verified you are a local PC admin, DEP is not enabled, anti-virus disabled and nothing else or as little as possible running?
It could be also that some dependency is there but CR is picking up the wrong version and doesn't get to the one we need.
If you have a PC where it does work go to our download page and get Modules and run it on both PC's then you can compare the runtime. Our Database drivers have a dependency on MFC*.80.dll's. It could be there are a bunch of those on your PC and CR is using the one some other program loads in memory.
    mmmmm.

  • Crw32.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close while running report

Ever since I installed HEAT 9, Crystal Reports 11 crashes periodically.  I get the message "crw32.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close."  This message usually appears after I run a report, enter my DB credentials, and enter parameters.
I also have Report Viewer installed as a part of another application called Wasp.  I can open reports using the report viewer but when I close them the entire Wasp program crashes every time.
Both of these problems only happen with HEAT 9 installed.  I do not have this problem with HEAT 8.4 installed.

I suggest you contact the makers of HEAT and ask them if they support your configuration. It may be they do not support multiple versions of CR installed. It may also be caused by the order you have installed the various programs. Try using the repair feature for each program in various orders to see if that resolves the problem.
    Thank you
    Don

  • Crw32.exe has encountered an error.

    Hi,
We have upgraded cr 8 to cr11. The Sybase version we have is 15.0.2.
With cr8 we were able to connect to Sybase successfully nad desing the report and preview it.
But with cr11, when we try to preview the report, we get an error "crw32.exe has encountered an error and cr crashes.
    Please experts provide your suggestions.
    Regards,
    Sandhiya

    Hi Poonam,
    As you requested,
    Hi Sandhiya
As per the issue description, you are unable to connect to Sybase 15.0 with Crystal Reports XI.
Please let us know the following details:
    1) Exact version of Crystal Reports Designer. (To get this information, open Crystal Reports. Go to Help > About Crystal Reports).
    11.0.0.1282
    2) Are you able to create report using the Xtreme Sample database?
we have no issues with SQL SERVER
    3) What is the version of the Sybase driver?
    ASE 15.00.00.200
    4) If you have Sybase 12.5 driver, create a DSN and use it with CR XI.
    5) Which connectivity type (ODBC, OLEDB or Native) are you using to connect to Crystal Reports?
I tried to connect using ODBC and OLEDB
    6) If you are using ODBC connection, what happens if you change the connectivity type to ODBC or Native?
    7) Have you manually uninstall CR 8 before installing CR 11?
    Yes.
    8) To manually uninstall the product, follow the steps from the SAP Note # 1214506.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks!

I already changed the firewall settings to allow crw32.exe on my pc and the server.
    Stijn
    Kortrijk, Belgium

    Hi Stijn,
Before you troubleshoot, you should consider upgrading to CR XI R2 SP6.
Please have a look at this blog for more info on how to upgrade.
Also, CR XI is Not supported on Win 7 however, CR XI R2 SP6 is.

  • Faulting application crw32.exe,version 11.0.0.895, faulting module crqe.dll

    Hello,
I am modifying an existing report to inlcude a stored procedure.  The existing report access several tables, link and formulate the fields.  I added the new stored procedure, link it with one of existing tables included in the report, and add a new group summation using the new field returned by stored procedure.  When I run the report with the new changes, the Crystal Report seems processing data for a while (as the SQL profiler shows the stored procedure was executed successfully), then it suddenly crashed.  The complete error message in the event log is "Faulting application crw32.exe, version 11.0.0.895, faulting module crqe.dll, version 11.0.0.1282, fault address 0x000a4d5c".
    Platform informatin:
    - Crystal Report XI version 11.0.0.895
    - SQL 2005
    - Windows 2003 Server
Any help to narrow down the issue would be highly appreciated.
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
You are running the base build of crysral report XIR1 would suggest you to apply the latest service pack for crystal reports XIR1.
Servcie pack can be downloaded from here.
    [https://websmp230.sap-ag.de/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/bobj_download/main.htm]
You can also upgrade CR XI RI to R2.
    See this thread for upgradation:

  • Various crw32.exe error

    Hi,
I am using Crystal Report XI designer(11.0.0.1282) in the MS windows XP service pack3.
Whenever I tried to open a repot, I am getting crw32.exe related error and the designer just crashed
    "R6025 -pure virtual function call"
standard MS error with "please contact microsoft about this problem ..."
I can reporduce this error with
    1. open a existing report using stored procedure
    2. Modify the stored procedure including number of columns in the returning resultset
    3. Add a group in the report and do othe cosmetic works and summary etc.
    4. Save the report file
    5. Repopen the report file
    6. Designer crashes
It looks like if I create a brand new report with the modified procedure, it would be OK.
However, I cannot redesign all the reports.
A lot of post recommanded to install patch but I couldn't find the DESIGNER patch.
    Is it the known solution??
How would I get DESIGNER patch??

You should find a Patch level 5,
once patched, your help, about CR, should say Version 11.5.11.1470

  • Unhandled exception at 0x380ef547 in crw32.exe: 0xC0000005:

    Hi,
I have a report, with basic data in the page header, 3 fields ( name, number, status).  Then in the details section I have an OLE DB object, where the graphic location is a formula, combining the urlroot and urloffset.  The formula is correct because it works for other images (other reports) in the same imagestore.  Each image has a different code.
When I try to preview the report Crystal report crashes, Error msg.
crw32.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.
When I click the debug button, It opens up Visual Studio Just-in-time-debugger, and it gives me the following error:
An unhandled win32 exception occured in crw32.exe(5588). I then choose a new instance of Visual Studio to debug with, and it opens Visual Studio.
I then get the following error message:
Unhandled exception at 0x380ef547 in crw32.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x7f9ef002.
When I stop debugging, and close Visual Studio, I get the following error:
Crystal Reports - [reportname]:  crw32.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x5ad71531" referenced memory at "0x00000014".  The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program.
I can run all my other reports with no problem.
    Please advise.

I am having much the same issue.  I am using Crystal Reports XI and it has never worked well.  I have removed the program from the PC and reloaded the program several times.  I am running it on XP SP3 machine with all of the latest updates.  Everytime I simply drag a field from the Field Explorer onto the report design area I get the following message:
crw32.exe has encountered a proble and needs to close...
Then I get a secondary Application Error message:
The instruction at "0x5ad71531" referenced memory at "0x00000014".  The memory could not be "read"...
I have tried installing the program on another PC with the same results.
I also have VS2008 loaded on the machine along with Office 2007 and various other development tools.
I have been able to alter some aspects of a report but it will not let me add a field from the field explorer.  I am using an OLE DB connection to a SQL Server 2005 table.
    What gives?
