Crystal connectivity with BI

Can Crystal connect directly to the BW infocubes or does it need to go through an existing BW query?  Is the security in the cube utilized throughout Crystal?

You can connect to a cube directly although it is recommended that you use BW queries because some feature are not supported for a cube (like variables, calculated key figures, navigational attributes). Your BW security should be leveraged by the SAP integration kit.

I have tries searching. Also, when trying to adapt SAP Best Practices Crystal Reports, I am unable to update the Crystal Reports that use tables from ECC 6.0. I get the below error:
    Some Tables Could not be replaced, as no match was found in the new data source. Please specify the table required for any unmodified tables.
    I am able to connect to ECC 6.0 and access Infosets. Only when I try to access a table, I see this issue.
    Any help is appreciated!!

  • Crystal Server 2011 "Failed to open the connection" with 32 & 64 bit drivers are loaded

    Brand new installation of Crystal Reports Server 2011 with CR Developer 2011 as well.  Downloaded new Postgres and MySQL drivers for both the 32 and 64 bit ODBC definitions.  Created a new report on the server to eliminate any migration driver incompatibility issues.  Reports run fine in Developer but give the same "Failed to open the connection."
    and still problems running the reports  If I Save Data with the reports, I can click View to see the data, but they will not refresh.
    All the articles I'm finding online seem to point to the issue with needing 32 & 64 bit drivers, but I've loaded both and built my ODBC connections with the 32 drivers in the SysWOW64 folder.
    Logged in as Administrator.  Any thoughts out there?  Are there some new security measures?
    Thanks in advance ...

    Yes, Designer and CRS are on the same machine.
    Good catch with the 5.1 driver.  I loaded up the mysql-connector-odbc-5.1.13-win32 driver and used that.  It alone failed when I made the ODBC connection with it.  I see on the CRS 2011 Feature Pack 3 .pdf file that it says "Only 64-bit database connector middleware is supported" ... I downloaded the other mysql-connector-odbc-5.1.13-winx64 64bit file, but teh .msi and .zip versions failed on the load.  Do I need that if it says that or should the first one be enough?
    I've been trying to use a normal User DSN, no?  Apparently I don't have access as a machine Administrator to do it as I get "You are logged on with non-Administrative privileges.  System DSNs could not be created or modified."  Having our server guys get that straightened out and we'll see.  Had not heard of that actually but will give it a go.
    You say I should create the DSN entries in the 64 bit version of the ODBC Data Source Administrator ... located in the system32 folder, not the SysWOW64 folder, where the 32 bit drivers are found, yes?  Isn't that the "wrong" location to use I've been reading?  Or are System DSNs different from a User DSN?
    BIG thanks for the replies.  I owe you beers!!!!!

  • Crystal Developer crash, connecting with "Oracle Server" (Unicode DB): "buffer overrun"

    Post Author: mdde
    CA Forum: Data Connectivity and SQL
    Hello everyone!
    We're experiencing the following error, connecting with "Crystal Developer XI" or "Crystal Developer 2008" to a unicode-configured Oracle 10g Database using "Oracle Server"-driver and choosing a table:
    ERROR MESSAGE: Buffer overrun detected!
    Program: ...essObjects Enterprise 12.0\win32_x86\crw32.exe
    A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal state.The Program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated.
    This error is reproducable by 100%. We're normally using it because of performance, but now we have do work with "Microsoft OLEDB" instead.
    STEP BY STEP: Open CR Developer, File, New Report, New Connection (to unicode instance - this is a must), "Oracle Server", (Login without checking "OS auth."), Double click on table, Error.
    DETAILS: "Oracle Database 10g Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production", Oracle-client used by CR Developer: "11.1.0". OS: Windows XP, SP2
    We tried CR SP4 and SP for 2008 edition. Didn't help. Nothing on google, nor in this forum, nor in BO knowledge base.
    Does anyone also experience this error / know anything about? Thanks in advance!
    David
    P.S.: Picture:

    Hi Aaron,
    I highly recommend that you only have ONE oracle client installed. Oracle tends to have problems finding the correct dependency versions of their runtime. One way is to change your PATH statement so it only has the one Client listed but I highly suggest you uninstall both and then install just the 11G client.
    Also, when CR connects to Oracle we query the DB and load all tables, SP's Views, etc. and when the local resources are filled up we stop. So when connecting be sure to check off the options not being used and add filtering in that UI also for your schema as well.
    One last change, close the designer down and then go into regedit and this location:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SAP BusinessObjects\Suite XI 4.0\Crystal Reports\DatabaseOptions - DoAutoSmartLinking and set the default value to No if it's not already.
    Thanks

  • Connecting Crystal XI with Act database 10

    Could anybody point me in the right direction for information on how to connect Crystal XI with Act version 10?
    Thankyou!

    Hi Mark,
    According to our Platforms PDF file we only support ACT 5 and 6 for CR XI and XI R2. CR 2008 only support ACT 6.
    Articles - select the version of CR and look for the Platforms PDF files.
    But this only means we have not tested it. So it may not work but if you can tell me what errors you are getting we may be able to help.
    Thank you
    Don

  • JRC bug: apostrophe in string parameter passed to Crystal Report with Command datasource to SQL Server

    Post Author: nl11087
    CA Forum: JAVA
    A single quote/apostrophe in string parameter passed to a Crystal Report with Command datasource connecting to a SQL Server database, using sqljdbc driver does not escape the special character correctly. When doing a preview in the Crystal Reports IDE it allows you to escape the input parameter as expected and work correctly, but through the JRC component it fails. For string parameters without special sql server characters I experience no problems at all. When replacing the Command with a direct table there is also no problem.
    Reproduction:
    1. create a database db1, create a table table1 with a String type column col1.
    2. Create new report Report1.rpt, create a connection to above, Add Command using 'SELECT col1, col2, col3 FROM table1 WHERE col1 = '{?Par1}' . Add a parameter field Par1 : String
    3. In your java stand alone application using JRC add the parameter Par1 with a value "Jon Doe's Value" containing a single apostrophe. Export to PDF. (I also tried MSWord and this failed too, similar behavior). Additionally, in another test try to replaceAll("'","''") to escape it, preventing the code to break, but now it does not retrieve the expected row anymore and you end up with an empty report.

  • Crystal Report with text(csv) data file, can we set it as input parameter?

    Hi,
    I am a new user of Crystal Reports 2008.
    I have created a report with charts in it. The input data comes from a csv text file.
    Can I set the name of this text file as an input parameter?
    as I need to generate 44 similar reports with different text filenames(and data)?
    Thank you.
    Regards

    Brian,
    Thanks much.
    I did exactly what you said.
    Just to see any change, I first gave a bad report file name just to see if I am accidentally pointing to a different file,
    but I got an error saying report not found.
    Then I renamed my original datafile name and generated a report and it still generated one without giving an error.
    Then I also gave a junk name to the logoninfo and printed that name, the new name was assigned to logoninfo, but the code did not error out.
    It ended up generating the report.
    Now here is what I think is happening,
    1) The save data in report option seems to be still on even though I have turned it off in 2 locations
    a) file -> Report Options
    b) file -> Options -> Reporting tab.
    2) For some reason the logoninfo is getting ignored as well.
    Since I did not see any answers yesterday I posted a link to this thread on the .Net forum
    Crystal Report with text(csv) data file, can we set it as input param? C#
    and Ludek Uher says that I am connecting to the text file via a DAO database engine and so need to use the same code for changing the text file as for changing an Access database.
    But the link he gave me tells me to try the same thing that we have been trying..
    Here is my plan,
    1) I will first try and find out why my save data with report option is still on ( but it shows off in Crystal ).
    2) why is LogonInfo getting ignored.
    Meanwhile any suggestions from anyone are welcome.

  • Crystal Report with text(csv) data file, can we set it as input param? C#

    Hi,
    I am new to the forums and posted a question which belonged to the .net - SAP Crystal reports group.
    Can someone help me with my problem? following is the thread that I have started.
    Crystal Report with text(csv) data file, can we set it as input parameter?
    Thank you in advance.

    Looking at the original thread, you are connecting to the text file via the DAO database engine:
    "I added the text file as follow, new connection -> Access/Excell (DAO) -> select the file and the database type as text"
    Thus I would use the same code for changing the text file as for changing an Access database. See Kbase [1218178 - Error: "Logon failed" when connecting to Access database in .NET application|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/oss_notes_boj/sdn_oss_boj_bi/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/scn_bosap/notes%7B6163636573733d36393736354636443646363436353344333933393338323636393736354637333631373036453646373436353733354636453735364436323635373233443330333033303331333233313338333133373338%7D.do] for more information. If that does not work, you may want to consider connecting via ODBC or feeding the data from the text file to and ADO .NET dataset and pointing the report at the dataset.

  • Cannot establish connection with Oracle database

    Hello
    This is the first time I use BOE server with Crystal Report to execute some tests, and one issue is blocking me now, and I am not even sure if this is the right Forum where I should post it.
    I installed BOE server XI 3.1 SP4 on Linux machine (new installation), and then I uploaded some existing Crystal Report templates that are working fine on another BOE server. Those CR templates have to establish a connection with a remote Oracle database to get the data, and we pass all credentials for this purpose.
    The first time I run my first test I received this error that I could not find anywhere on the web :
    ErrorLog 2011  8 10  7:05:52.505 14215 356 (Administrator:82) (../reporthandler.cpp:12462): CReportHandler::buildReportViewerError: CSResultExceFailed to open the connection." FileName:"../reporthandler.cpp" LineNum:12458 ErrorCode:756 ErrorMsg:"Failed to open the connection.
    {FBAD55EE-BEAF-11E0-BC1C-005056813A72}.rpt" DetailedErrorMsg:""
    I believe that the CR was not able to establish the connection with Oracle, so I install Oracle Client on the same machine (test remote connection ==> pass), I set the ORACLE_HOME variable, and I edit the file <installation_home>/ bobje/java/CRConfig.xml to add the path to ojdbc14.jar, and finnaly restart the tomcat server. However I am still getting the same error message.
    Is there any hint that can help me troubleshooting this issue?
    Thank you

    do the reports use native oracle connectivity or JDBC ?
    what version of Oracle client did you install ?
    was it 32bit or 64bit client ?
    what your LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable set to ?
    what does it say in the CMC when you look at CR report's DB properties ?

  • Does BOXI support crystal reports with parameter references in formulas?

    I am designing a report in Crystal Reports XI Developer that contains parameters, which are passed to a stored procedure and are also used within formulas ( in Crystal Syntax ie. {?FORMAT_ID} ) in the report itself.
    I can run the report successfully in CRXI Developer.  The formulas use the correct values from the parameters entered during execution and everything looks good.
    I then deploy the report to Business Objects Enterprise XI.  I do all of the things necessary to manage the report including setting up the proper database connection information and default parameter values.
    When I run the report using the Crystal Report Viewer, I get the following error message:
    Error in File Forecasting.rpt:
    Error in formula <Report Format>.
    'if (not isNull({?FORMAT_ID} ) ) then
    This field name is not known.
    Details: errorKind
    This happens when I press the "Preview" button in the Manage Object dialog from Crystal or when I run the report using InfoView.
    I have changed the formulas and it doesn't seem to matter what the specific content of the formula is; other than the existence of a parameter reference in the formula.  If I comment out the parameter and replace it with a hard-coded value, it gets through the formula fine.
    Does Business Objects Enterprise XI support crystal reports with parameter references in the formulas?
    Thanks,
    Tim H.

    Hi,
       In Crystal Reports under File -> Report Options >check convert Null Values to default > Verify on first refresh > Verify stored procedures on first refresh.
    This corrected the issue by allowing the query engine time to locate those columns and map them to the query being sent by the report.
    The convert null values was added because those field were being used in the record selection and grouping.

    Vinay

  • Using Crystal Reports with Visual Studio 2008

    I have bin using visual studio 2008 for a while. I have just started using Crystal Report (which came with Visual studio) . I have an Access database connected with 3 tables, the first two table has two test fields and one index field, the third table has two text fields and two index field (of which one relates too one of the other tables).
    I have generated a crystal report on one of the tables using the wizard. I have then placed the crystalreportviewer in a form (as a test). When I run the resulting form, all I get is the column heading label but no fields being displayed. There is data in the table. All I need to know is how do is make sure that the reports are accessing the data in the table, through the datasets???.

  • RFC SDK, connect with japanese username to a unicode SAP system

    Hello everybody,
    I try to connect with a japanese username to a unicode SAP system. I use VC++ and make the call like this:
         BYTE utf8_byteArray[10] = {0xE3, 0x81, 0x8A, 0xE3, 0x81, 0x99, 0xE3, 0x81, 0x99, 0x00 };
         CString sJapUser(utf8_byteArray);
         sConnectParam.Format( cU("CLIENT=%s USER=%s PASSWD=%s LANG=%s SYSNR=%d ASHOST=%s PCS=2"),
                             "800",
                             sJapUser,
                             "password",
                             "EN",
                             1,
                             "9.22.104.145");
         hRfc = ::RfcOpenEx( (char*)(LPCTSTR)sConnectParam, &error_info);
    I tried it with different codepages and PCS settings (1/2) too but i always get the error:
    "Name or password is incorrect (repeat logon)"
    When I connect to a non unicode japanese system in locale encoding it works.
    Another thing i saw is that the utf8 string is truncated after 12 bytes (12 character/bytes is the limit of user name length). When I use a japanese username with 6 japanese symbols (18 bytes in utf8) I see the following in the RFC trace:
    rfcOpenHooked
        destination             <unknown>
        mode                    3
        conopt 3 hostname       9.22.104.145
        conopt 3 sysnr          1
        conopt 3 use_l_bal      0
        conopt 3 use_sapgui     0
        client                  800
        user                    おすすめ (here the username misses 2 japanese characters)
        language                E
        trace                   0
    L-GetCodePage (DEFAULT-CP) rc = 0: 1100
    Here the username is correct:
    >>> RfcOpenEx ...
    Got following connect_param string:
       CLIENT=800 USER=おすすめダウ PASSWD=******* LANG=EN SYSNR=1 ASHOST=9.22.104.145 CODEPAGE=4110 PCS=2
    Send RFCHEADER: 01/LIT/IEEE/SPACE/4110
    Send UNICODE-RFCHEADER: cp:4110/ce:IGNORE/et:5/cs:1/rc:0x00000023
    In the RFC trace the username is truncated (only 12 bytes(4 characters) instead of 18 bytes (6 characters))
    000160 | 44657369 676E0130 0111000C E3818AE3 |Design.0........|
    000170 | 8199E381 99E38281 01110117 000C905F |..............._|
    000180 | E417BBAC 1DDD543E CE540117 01140003 |......T>.T......|
    To connect with japanese usernames using the SAP-GUI works fine but the rfc traces show that the connection is established in another way.
    Can anyone help me with this or is it just impossible to use japanese usernames for logon with RFC.
    Thank you in advance.
