Crystal Developer crash, connecting with "Oracle Server" (Unicode DB): "buffer overrun"
Post Author: mdde
CA Forum: Data Connectivity and SQL
Hello everyone!
We're experiencing the following error, connecting with "Crystal Developer XI" or "Crystal Developer 2008" to a unicode-configured Oracle 10g Database using "Oracle Server"-driver and choosing a table:
ERROR MESSAGE: Buffer overrun detected!
Program: ...essObjects Enterprise 12.0\win32_x86\crw32.exe
A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal state. The Program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated.
This error is reproducable by 100%. We're normally using it because of performance, but now we have do work with "Microsoft OLEDB" instead.
STEP BY STEP: Open CR Developer, File, New Report, New Connection (to unicode instance - this is a must), "Oracle Server", (Login without checking "OS auth."), Double click on table, Error.
DETAILS: "Oracle Database 10g Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production", Oracle-client used by CR Developer: "11.1.0". OS: Windows XP, SP2
We tried CR SP4 and SP for 2008 edition. Didn't help. Nothing on google, nor in this forum, nor in BO knowledge base.
Does anyone also experience this error / know anything about? Thanks in advance!
David

Hi Aaron,
I highly recommend that you only have ONE oracle client installed. Oracle tends to have problems finding the correct dependency versions of their runtime. One way is to change your PATH statement so it only has the one Client listed but I highly suggest you uninstall both and then install just the 11G client.
Also, when CR connects to Oracle we query the DB and load all tables, SP's Views, etc. and when the local resources are filled up we stop. So when connecting be sure to check off the options not being used and add filtering in that UI also for your schema as well.
One last change, close the designer down and then go into regedit and this location:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SAP BusinessObjects\Suite XI 4.0\Crystal Reports\DatabaseOptions - DoAutoSmartLinking and set the default value to No if it's not already.
Thanks

Howmany oracle user connect with oracle server.
hi all
howmany oracle user connect with oracle server.
i want query for above sentance.Robert,
This query will show us the username who are connect to a particular database. If OP wants that how many overall users are connected to his/her oracle server (which is having more than one db) then please tell us. Suppose 10 users are connected with db1 and 20 users are connected with db2.. like that.

"Xandros" (linux flavor), shows "TNS 12203" connect with oracle server(win
I am using oracle developer 6i and from 2000 on operating system "Xandros" (linux flavor),and working properly after instalation.
Problem when i am connecting to this Machine with oracle server(windos) it shows "TNS 12203"
i want to use xendros at client side to connect with Database Server on windows nt.
ThanksHi,
here is the descroption of TNS 12203
oerr TNS 12203
12203, 00000, "TNS:unable to connect to destination"
// *Cause: Invalid address specified or destination is not listening.
// This error can also occur because of underlying network or network
// transport problems.
// *Action: Verify that the net service name you entered was correct.
// Verify that the ADDRESS portion of the connect descriptor which
// corresponds to the net service name is correct. Ensure that the
// destination process (for example the listener) is running at the
// remote node.
Check if you see the database server from the client machine, and if listener is running and on which port, check tnsnames.ora on client. -
Not able to connect with Oracle server through VBScript without DSN
Hi
I have both Oracle9i and Oracle10g clients installed with local system.
I am able to connect to Oracle Database 11g Enterprise edition server though sqlplus through command prompt and also through AQT without any error.
As the server has lots of database ,whenever I connect to a particular database through sqlplus from command prompt,I connect as below
C:>sqlplus username/password@service_name
and it gets connected without any error.
When I am trying to connect the same database through VB Script,I am getting ORA-12560 TNS:Protocol Adaptor Error.
Below is the connection string I am using:
Database_String = "SERVER=xxxx.vvvn.Com;Driver={Oracle in OraHome92};DATABASE=service_name;user id=userid; password=passowrd"
I have installed a Oracle10g server in my local system and tried to connect the same way and I was successfully ,but its not working when the server is running remotely.
Does it make any difference with the version of driver being used ?Should I need to modify my connection string anyway.
Please help me as to identify the issue.Thank you very much in advance.

Connectivity Through Oracle Server
The senario is that i have established Oracle 8.05 as a server and three Oracle 8 client in a LAN Environment.HOst naming Configuration technique make SQLPLUS of client to connect with Oracle server.i have also installed Developer 2000 on the CLient but the problem of connectivity of developer to oracle server bothers me so please give me some configuration technique about it asap
Thankshello,
unfortunatly you do not describe your problem precisely, so i guess you can connect from sql-plus but not from developer.
you have to define your databases in both ORACLE_HOMES. the easiest way is to copy the TNSNAMES.ORA file from the ORACLE_HOME of SQLPLUS to the ORACLE_HOME of DEVELOPER.

I am getting message when I will try to connect with Oracle server
"Unable to connect to the management server. The management server 9.2.0.1.0 production is incompatible with this client". How can I resolve this problem ?It sounds like the version of your OEM client is not the same as the version of your OMS. The versions must be the same.

Using multipool Connections with Oracle 8i OPS Parallel Server
Does anyone have any experience using multipool JDBC connections with Oracle 8i OPS? During a oracle node failure, we are seeing all of the connections fail. Any help you could give me her would be greatly appreciated!

Cannot establish connection with Oracle database
Hello
This is the first time I use BOE server with Crystal Report to execute some tests, and one issue is blocking me now, and I am not even sure if this is the right Forum where I should post it.
I installed BOE server XI 3.1 SP4 on Linux machine (new installation), and then I uploaded some existing Crystal Report templates that are working fine on another BOE server. Those CR templates have to establish a connection with a remote Oracle database to get the data, and we pass all credentials for this purpose.
The first time I run my first test I received this error that I could not find anywhere on the web :
ErrorLog 2011 8 10 7:05:52.505 14215 356 (Administrator:82) (../reporthandler.cpp:12462): CReportHandler::buildReportViewerError: CSResultExceFailed to open the connection." FileName:"../reporthandler.cpp" LineNum:12458 ErrorCode:756 ErrorMsg:"Failed to open the connection.
{FBAD55EE-BEAF-11E0-BC1C-005056813A72}.rpt" DetailedErrorMsg:""
I believe that the CR was not able to establish the connection with Oracle, so I install Oracle Client on the same machine (test remote connection ==> pass), I set the ORACLE_HOME variable, and I edit the file <installation_home>/ bobje/java/CRConfig.xml to add the path to ojdbc14.jar, and finnaly restart the tomcat server. However I am still getting the same error message.
Is there any hint that can help me troubleshooting this issue?
Thank youdo the reports use native oracle connectivity or JDBC ?
what version of Oracle client did you install ?
was it 32bit or 64bit client ?
what your LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable set to ?
what does it say in the CMC when you look at CR report's DB properties ? -
TOAD v9.1 connection with Oracle11g server
Hi All Gurus..
Is TOAD v9.1 compatible with oracle11g?
It is working fine with Oracle10.2.0.3. But when I tried to connect with 11g server it gives me error "invalid username/password".
BUT I am able connect in sqlplus session from oracle10g to 11g.
Server OS : OELinux Oracle :11g
Clien OS : windowsXP Oracle :10g
Any idea?
Thanks in advance..Hi Jim/Dan,
I am SQL Developer pro.. I like Oracle's products.. and in-fact I am using SQL Developer for my Oracle SQL developments.
Thanks for your comments..
This is just for curiosity and as I was just came across with this situation when I was working with my colleague.
I know TOAD is not Oracle Product BUT it is used by many of us that's why I raised it here.. I am very sorry for that..
any way thanks again.. -
PlusEqual Oracle syntax with Oracle Server
Hello,
I want to know which setting I must change so my SQL statement are PLUSEQUAL syntax instead of the OJSyntax with Crystal Report 2008 when using Oracle Server connection type.
I have tried to change the value of the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Business Objects\Suite 12.0\Crystal Reports\Database\QueryBuilder\JoinBuilder\OracleJoinBuilder with the value OraOCIEI11 or crdb_oracle but it did not work has it used to be with an ODBC connection.
What value should I change to have PLUSEQUAL syntax?
Thank you.
CharlesHello,
Anybody can help me on that? Crystal Report SAP people?
If my first post was not clear enough. Here what I want my SQL statement to look like:
SELECT "OBJ_T"."MODL_CD",
"MODL_T"."NAME1",
"MODL_T"."NAME2",
FROM "OWNER"."OBJ_T" "OBJ_T",
"OWNER"."MODL_T" "MODL_T"
WHERE ("OBJ_T"."MODL_CD" = "MODL_T"."MODL_CD")
Instead of having the Syntax with "INNER JOIN X ON Y" like that:
SELECT "OBJ_T"."MODL_CD",
"MODL_T"."NAME1",
"MODL_T"."NAME2",
FROM "OWNER"."OBJ_T" "OBJ_T"
INNER JOIN "OWNER"."MODL_T" "MODL_T"
ON "OBJ_T"."MODL_CD" = "MODL_T"."MODL_CD"
I was able to achieve this with an ODBC connection by editing the registry key OracleJoinBuilder but I have not been able to find the correct setting for an Oracle Server connection.
Thank you.

How to create a Crystal Report to connect to Oracle
Hi,
When I create a Crystal report to connect to SQL Server, I create a stored procedure to get all data I need and connect to it from Crystal Report.(In the stored procedure, I created temp tables, used cusor etc to run data.) But now I need to use a Oracle database. I heard I need to create a package and put this stored procedure in this package. Questions:
1. if I need to create a package, how can I call the stored procedure from it?
2. Can I create temp table in this procedure too? I need to create some temp tables to join together to get complex data.
3. if I want the return data from stored procedure, do I still "select ... from ..." or there is another other ways?
I am so desperated. Please help. I know this are very silly questions. But please.Hi Jenny,
We are also using Crystal Reports for our Oracle Database, we normally just select the tables we want to use or create our own SQL query.
However, if you really want to use Oracle stored-procedure (which performs faster than a SQL query because the stored procedure is compiled in advance), you can look at this document:
http://support.businessobjects.com/communityCS/TechnicalPapers/scr_oracle_stored_procedures.pdf
Hope this will answer your questions. -

Problem in sql developer while connecting to oracle 11g
when am creating a database connection with oracle 11g in sql developer editor it s throwing network adapter could not establish the connection
connection name test
user name system
password system
Role default
Host name localhost
Port 1521
SID orcl
Can any one help me to resolve the problem?
Thanks in advanceThose parameters probably aren't correct.
Is that 11g on your machine? Try to specify the real IP instead. And sure the listener is up?
Also sure about the SID and port?
Hope that helps,

this is the code that I'm following
import java.io.*; import java.sql.*; public class test2 { public static void main(String[] args) { try { Connection con=null; Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"); con=DriverManager.getConnection( "jdbc:oracle:thin:@PLANET:1521:ORCL", "scott", "tiger"); Statement s=con.createStatement(); s.execute("INSERT INTO BOOKS VALUES('A Tale of Two Cities','William Shakespeare',4567891231,'05-JAN-1962')"); s.close(); con.close(); } catch(Exception e){e.printStackTrace();} } }
Edited by: Vantasia on Nov 12, 2010 10:18 AM1. Is the connection url correct?
"jdbc:oracle:thin:@PLANET:1521:ORCL" is fine.
2. Is the TNS listener started?
c:\oracle\product\ora10\bin> lsnrctl status
3. Is a firewall between client and database server?
Connection url with firewall would be different.

UTF-8 diacritic problems in TextEdit
In previous versions of OSX, all available diacritics for a font were usable in the US Extended keyboard layout while using TextEdit. For example, typing the word Perumāḷ in Times Roman would not trigger font shifts when the diacritics were invoked.
