Crystal Report 2008 [CR Developer] version - connectivity issue

Hi Folks,
I am not sure this is right forum to post my question, after a long research I found this forum. Year ago I developed proto type reports in Crystal 11.5 version and integrated with Power Builder 11.5 to our client. It took almost a year to get approval from the client.
Now, I have installed Crystal Report 2008 [CR Developer] version and I am not able to call previously developed reports from power builder 11.5
Power Builder code to invoke crystal reports:
g_ole_crx_application = CREATE OLEobject
gi_return = g_ole_crx_application.ConnectToNewObject('CrystalRuntime.Application.11')
here gi_return returning -2.
Questions:
What is CR Developer version# 12.0.0.683 ?
Do I need to install Crystal Reprot 2008 server in order to integrated with Power Builder 11.5?
Should I installed any service packs? If yes, please let me know the path
What are the runtime dll's should I used to integrate with PB11.5? other than following
craxdrt.dll CRDesigner.dll CRDesignerCtrl.dll crqe.dll CRViewer.dll
Please let me know the answers.
Thanks
Indra

Hi Indra,
Moved your post to the Legacy SDK forum.
CR 2008 no longer ships the RDC, CR XI R2 is the last version that included the craxdrt.dll. The RDC components were deprecated and no longer available.
If you want to upgrade you now must use the CR .NET Assemblies.
Thank you

  • Crystal Reports 2008 (v12.3.1): connectivity to OLAP (Essbase)

    Hello,
    how do I connect to Essbase 9.3.1 cubes? By browsing support site I've got an impression that Essbase 9.3 is supported, but when I try to create a connection from Crystal Reports 2008 (v12.3.1) I can only choose Essbase 7.0 or Essbase 7.1 as a data source. Searching available Crystal downloads did not help either - the last available download for essbase support is dated 2003...
    So, could someone let me know if 9.3.1 is really supported and where to get the needed piece of software (driver) to make it happen.
    thanks and regards
    Z.

    Hi,
    As far as i know, the supported version of Essbase 9.3 is of client type and Essbase 7.1 is of server type.
    So, you can use the Essbase 9.3 as a client to connect to the 7.1 Essbase server.

  • First Page blank -Crystal Reports 2008 Service Pack 1 install issues

    Hi,
    After installation of  Crystal Reports 2008 Service Pack 1 - Redist Install on Web server. First page of all the reports are blank .But when next page is clicked next page displays information ,then previous page the report displayed.
    On loading the first page of the report is blank.
    The report is fine in Crystal reports
    After navigating to the second page - the data on the second page appears with no issues -
    Then Navigate back to the first page then the first page data appears.
    Thanks in advance .
    Regards

    Just to clarify why this needed to be done. The CR msm and msi files install the correct files into a bin directory. The bin directory is specific to the version of Crystal Reports. Also, the viewer files are installed into the default web site aspnet_client folder. Thus if an application is installed into a custom website, you will have issues, such as red X-es instead of images, errors, failure to load report, etc. For more documentation on this issue see these articles:

  • Crystal Reports 2008 - Eclipse and JNDI connection.

    I am evaluting Crystal Reports 2008 .
    I want to use JNDI connection that is defined within my app server by Crystal reports so that I'll have better control of the properties defined.
    How do I set up JNDI data source connection in Crystal Reports 2008 ?
    I defined the following parameters u2026
                    JNDI Provider URL : jnp://localhost:1099
                    Initla Context as :  org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContextFactory
    And user name / password  as defined in JBoss setup
    I also have  u201Cjboss\client\jbossall-client.jaru201D in the classpath .
    But I am getting Cannot instantiate class exception .
    Thanks in Advance for the help.

    Mr. Ted, We can expose JNDI connections from the appserver. Infact the database connection pool resoures are exposed as JNDI resources, JMS factory and connections are exposed as JNDI etc.
    In fact, JNDI is a means of securely exposing the resources managed by the app server to be used by trusted clients.
    We have achieved this on weblogic (8.1 - JDK 1.4.2) but we would like to replicate the same in glassfish app server ver 3.1.2 and would require the proper factory placed inside the rpt as well as the CRConfig.xml.
    Otherwise, (if we are using conventional URL string) when we ship the rpt files, we need to place this only as localhost. This mandates the presence of rpt files to be in the same server as database server and database. We want to avaoid this by creating a JNDI and use that database access resource inside the rpt files.

  • Crystal Reports 2008 sp3 hangs while connecting to SAP BW

    I've got CR 2008 12.3.0.601 connecting to SAP BW Netweaver 7.0 EPH 1 with a BOBJ Enterprise XI version 12.3.0.601 and when I try to connect / use the SAP open a query (integration kit portion of CR) I can see the querries but once I try to open a query CR hangs / the hour glass stays forever?
    Any suggestions please.

    Make sure you have winrar installed on the machine and choose to extract the .exe contents in a directory (use the context menu). The transports are located under the Transports subfolder.
    Use the Unicode version and check the documentation ( transports.txt ) to find out which transports you need to import ( for SAP BW you should import 9 transports).

  • Error in Crystal Reports 2008 Runtime Version = 12.2.3.467

    Dear Support Team
    <br />
    <br />
    I am making the setup for our application using InstallShield 2010.
    <br />
    <br />
    I recently updated the crystal reports 2008 runtime to version = 12.2.3.467.

    Based on this article

    Topic of the week (October 15, 2009)
    <br />
    Date time field is blank when using ADO .NET dataset and Crystal Reports 2008, Service Pack 2.0
    <br />
    This is a new issue, very specific to CR 2008 and SP 2. Date time fields are stripped out of a report (or not
    <br />
    visible), if a report is consuming a .NET dataset which contains a date time field. A technical escalation has been
    <br />
    submitted and a work-around is detailed in note number 1392258
    <br />
    <br />
    <br />
    Since DateTime Column was not getting displayed in the deployment machine when running the report.
    <br />
    <br />
    So I downloaded the Crystal Report 2008 FP2.3 and merge module for the same and installed on my development machine
    <br />
    <br />
    where I am making the Setup.
    <br />
    <br />
    I am able to make the setup successfully without errors, but when I try to install the setup on the deployment machine I am getting

    the errors as

    Dear Mr. Williams
    I dont think this is the issue related to MS Installer. Still based on your suggestion I downloaded the latest MS Installer from Microsoft Website and Installed on my setup machine and made the new setup with zero errors and warning.
    The deployment machine is having full rights and so there is no security issues  related to installation even though to clear the confusion I installed the setup on three other xp machines the result was same even after installing the latest MS installer on those machines as well.
    I wanrt to remind it again since I was facing the DATE TIME column Issue problem in reports on deployment machines so I updated the Crystal Reports TO CRFP 2.3 EXE AND MSM as mentioned in your forums regarding this known bug that if datetime column is getting from dataset then that column was not getting displayed.
    From that time onwards I am unable to install the setup on the deployment machines and I am getting errors unable to register errors crystal reports dlls.
    Apart from that I downloaded Crystal Reports 2008 Fix Pack 2.3 - Redist Install  (cr2008_fp23_redist.zip)  from the download page but i can't open it I am gettinig the error message doesnt appear to be a valid archive.
    Please help me and provide me some solution regardeing the issue I am stuck with.

  • Crystal Reports 2008 connecting to Crystal Server 2011

    Hello SAP Experts,
    I am new with the Crystal Client/Server platform and the only knowledge I have with the infrastructure is from the Crystal Server 2011 documentation I have pulled from SAP's website.  I have looked at a lot of online resources but very few have the answers that I need.
    I built an instance of Crystal Server 2011 running on Windows Server 2008 R2.  Our clients are currently using Crystal Reports 2008 client where they connect directly to a SQL 2008 Data Warehouse to pull reports.
    For security reasons, they want to implement Crystal Server 2011 to connect to the SQL 2008 Data Warehouse as a single point of entry, instead of having several Crystal Reports 2008 clients connecting to the SQL Data Warehouse.
    The idea is to have the clients connect to the Crystal Server; the Crystal Server will then connect to the SQL Data Warehouse so clients can pull reports from it.
    My questions are:
    1.  Is it possible to connect a Crystal Reports 2008 client to Crystal Server 2011?  If so, how do I accomplish this?
    2.  Do I need to create a Universe in order for the Crystal clients to pull data/reports from the SQL 2008 Data Warehouse?  Or is there a way I can create a connection without a Universe?
    Any help offered is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Check our site for more info but in general CR fully respects all DB security, if the user does not have permissions on the table used in the report the report will fail to run.

  • Two problmes between  Crystal Reports 2008 and Bex Query

    Hi Gurus.
    I have two problems with Crystal Reports 2008 when It obtains data from a Bex Query (SAP MDX query connection).
    1)     I have defined some Parameters Fields using the follow options:
    Type: String
    List of Values: Dynamic
    Value Options Level1:
                         Show on (Viewer) Panel :Editable
                          Prompt text: <text>
                          Sort Order: Ascending by value
                          Prompt With description Only : False
                          Optional Prompt: True
                          Allow multiple values: True
                          Allow discrete values: True
                          Allow range values: False
    When I execute the report with the client of Crystal Reports 2008 (the developer tool), in the initial screen shows a list box where I can select the values from the left box and add it to the left box (as a usually filter). When the number of options (LOV) is more than  the maximum of the system, I have a input box bellow the list box, where I can insert any value (manually) and a button to insert it into the left box. When I publish the Report in the infoview, this filter is modified and the input box where I can introduce manually values is not showed and I can insert only the values showed in the list box, it causes that I can`t select a lot of values that is in the master data of SAP BW, because they arenu2019t listed in the list box.
    There is any option to ability this option in the infoview.
    2)     My Bex query, have a date filter with variable in the restricted key figures, when I execute a Crystal Reports, the infoview (and the Crystal Reports 2008 designer) ask me 2 times the same date, first only the date and second the date and the rest of parameters (introduced in the report of Crystal Reports).
    Why I need insert the date 2 times? How can I modify the Crystal Report for ask me only one time all the parameters?.
    Thanks.

    Hi Abhilash.
    Thank you for your information.
    1) Yes, the parameters are created in the Crystal Reports designer. I have created the parameters in the Crystal Report because I use the same Bex Query to create some Crystal Report, in other case, I will need create some Bex Query.
    2)The Bex query has the date filters and I have created some filters in Crystal Reports designer, the date filter from the Bex query is created automatically in the Crystal Report Designer but I don't use it, I haven't created it anytime. I use my filters only in the record selection. The date filters from the Bex query is showed as Static, and I can`t delete it, if I modify the parameter to dynamic or static with values, at first step ask me again static without values and the second step of the report execution ask me the parameter as I have defined in Crystal Reports Designer, my parameters fields are dynamic. A lot of reports have subreport, but I have created one of them without subreport (to trial) and the Crystal Reports ask me the date filters at first execution, and when I insert the date filters, in the second step, ask me the date filters again and my parameters fields again.
    Thank you again.

  • Crystal Reports 2008 Repository Explorer

    Hi,
    I am new to Crystal Reports 2008. I want to use Crystal Reports 2008 Repository.  My question is as it was done in Crystal Report 9 Professional edition that a crystal report developer can create a Repository while using Crystal Report 9 Professional edition without Crystal report Server, Is this also possible with Crystal Report 2008. If we only have Crystal Report 2008 designer or developer edition, can we create Repository's i.e.  Text Objects,  Images,  Custom Functions,  SQL  Commands etc without having Crystal Report 2008 Server, if yes please let me know the method.
    Thanks in advance
    Thanks
    Vipin

    Hi,
    I was on web found this link
    http://www.crystalkeen.com/articles/crystalreports/repository.htm
    which says that:
    Crystal Reports: Repository
    A solid understanding of the repository can really improve the the efficiency, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness of your reports. Hammerman and Associates offers classes on this very subject. We aren't going to cover all of it here, but will provide some highlights.
    Use the CR9 Repository for those commonly used objects
    The Crystal Reports 9.0 repository is a great place to store some commonly used items in your report. This includes text strings, images, SQL Commands (see next item) and Custom Formulas.
    The Repository is initially stored in an Access database and has an ODBC connection with the System DSN of u201CCrystal Repository.u201D But you can use any ODBC data source including a database in your network so you can all share the same common objects.
    Create a new database for the repository. We recommend you copy the existing MS-Access database, but you can start with an empty database. (The initial repository is Repository_en.mdb, stored in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Crystal Decisions\2.0\bin).
    Create an ODBC connection to the new database. The new database does not have to be an Access database. If you use your SQL Server or Oracle server then, by using server security you can control who can view and who can edit items in the repository.
    You next need to set Crystal Reports 9.0 to use this new Database connection. This control information is stored in an INI file and can be edited with any text editor such as NotePad. The INI file is at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Crystal Decisions\2.0\bin\orMap.ini .
    There is a line in this file that saysu2026 Crystal Repository=Crystal Repository .
    Edit this to say Crystal Repository=New ODBC DSN.
    Is this also possible with Crystal Report 2008 designer/developer edition.
    Thanks
    Vipin

  • Crystal Report 2008 Deployment - Delphi 2007 application

    Hi,
    I have got Crystal Report 2008 and developed some reports using them.
    I had integrated these reports with a Delphi 2007 application. My application works fine on my box where I have installed CR2008.
    Please note - the previous version of Crystal report i used with my application was 5.
    I also identified CR_runtime 2008- most of the dll's inside win32_x86 directory and tried to package and created installer of my application. I deployed my application on another box and what I noticed is it gives me OpenEngine error. Copying required dll's doesn't solves problem as I feel there is a need for registry variables too, but not sure of how to go about it.
    Is it that I need CR208 , the whole Business objects installed on all deploymnet boxes? If then i need to get licensed copies?
    Or is it ok I can download just the CR2008 runtime and install on the deployment boxes.
    My application is a standalone application and it just uses to view the reports already created- picking values from the database.
    Can I use CR_runtime installer  - free trial and deploy on the other boxes and use my application so to view the already created reports.
    Please help - I am stuck as how to package my application so users can view the report.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Shruthi

    Hi Jonathan,
    Thanks so much... for the reply .
    I had downloaded CR runtime - msi file and tried for deployment on my deployment box. But it asks for the product key while installing.
    If I  had to do this on all of my customer boxes, then can I use the same product key/license code? or the free time trial version - license code that comes with a CR runtime trial setup.
    Or should I purchase license for deploying the runtime or  msi to all boxes?
    Please let me know what should I do......
    Thanks in advance,

  • Not able to get the tables in crystal report 2008

    Hi,
    I am using crystal report 2008 and trying to connect MS SQL using OLE DB (ADO) connection. After giving all DB credentials data base tables are not appearing in the connection. how to get the tables for selection in crystal report 2008.
    Regards,
    Sree

    In the CR Designer, select the connection and press the right mouse button. Select Options in the context menu and check if there is an entry in the Table name fiel. Maybe you have a placeholder there that does not match the names of the tables in the database. Just remove it, close the window by pressing OK and refresh the connection browser (press F5). Unfold the connection again and check if you can see the tables now.

  • SAP BI 7 & Crystal Reports 2008

    Hi,
    I'm airly new to SAP BI world, but I have 8+ years of BI expereince.  We are trying to integrate a project in SAP BI 7. We had planned to use the BEx Query Designer/Web Application Designer for query and reporting purposes.  However, with the new roadmap of SAP, where they will discontinue the BEx Suite (Reports) from next year, we have decided to go for Crystal Reports 2008.
    Curretnly, there are existing reports that were created in Crystal Reports x/xi I belive and they used BEx query (3.5).  Our question is that if we want to use Crystal Reports 2008, how do we connect to the SAP BI (infoobjects, infoCubes, etc)?  Also, should we be just be able to recompile the previous crystal templates in 2008?
    I have read that Crystal reports can use BO Universe to connect to SAP BI 7 objects. However, I'm trying to get more information about that regarding recommentations/best practices, etc.
    I would greatly appreciate any help!
