Crystal Report 9 slow down when we move old DB to new DB server

We are using Crystal Reports 9 version, recently we move to new database server and reports data source are pointing to Old database server and old database server is no longer in the network.
Now we have issue with the performance when we call the reports from web application, it is talking long time to retrieve the simple report data(e.g. 1 min.). , if we manually update the report data source pointing to new server and the reports are pulling data very quickly.(e.g. 1 second for the same report) Is there any easy solution to bulk update all the reports datasource pointing to new server, we have 1000 reports, we can not use manual process, it will take long time and it is also issue with the future if we change the server.
Thanks for your help!

The 1 minute timeout is due to ODBC driver trying to connect, it's the default timeout you are seeing. There is not tool Cr has to migrate/update database connection info. You can develop your own though or search the web for a third party tool, I'm sure there are lots out there.

  • Crystal Reports shuts down when trying to use the Add Command feature

I am using Crystal Reports 9 with and Oracle database.  I go to new report, as a blank report, new connection to oracle, double click add command, paste the sql and click ok and crystal shuts down at that point.  Any one have this happen before?? Please help??

    Hi Allison,
Have you tried with  basic syntax at command level.
If you face any problem using Add command in crystal designer, just try to reinstall the product.
    Regards,

  • Songs slowing down when I type

I'm running iTunes 7.7.1 on a new computer. iTunes had no problem on my old one, but on my new one, the songs slow down when I type, which is rather annoying, since I listen to music while, you know, typing. I'm on WinXP Pro, and everthing else is working great. Any ideas?

What tools, Mostly I work with iWeb using iPhoto, Aperture, Photoshop TeXture Adobe FormsCentral for Acrobat etc. making and editing Web Sites. Often I have many Apps open simultanously.

  • Internet speed slows down when connected via airport express

Internet speed slows down when connecting via airport express. When connecting directly via the timecapsulethe internet speed is ok, when connecting via the airport express the speed slows down. What can I do to change that? Any suggestions?

Turn off the AirPort Express completely as a test, and move your computer very close to the location of the Express.
As I said before, the Express can only extend the bandwidth (speed) that it receives from the Time Capsule, so the speed that you see there with the Express powered off will be the fastest speed of which the Express is capable.
The Express will make the signal go further when it extends....but it will not make the signal go faster.
A good location for a device that extends wirelessly is a point that is about half the distance from the Time Capsule and the general area that needs more wireless coverage.
If you locate the AirPort Express too far from the Time Capsule or there are more than a couple of walls in the signal path, the signal will be very slow by the time that it reaches the Express....and the Express simply extends a signal that has already slowed down significantly.
If you already have the Express located about half the distance between the Time Capsule and general area that needs more wireless coverage, how many walls, ceilings or other obstructions are there in the signal path between the Time Capsule, the AirPort Express and the area that needs more coverage?
Often, due to obstructions, it is just not possible to achieve good performance when you try to extend a network wirelessly. The solution is connect the AirPort Express to the Time Capsule using a wired Ethernet connection.
There is virtually no signal loss with this type of connection, so the Express can be located exactly where it is needed and it will produce a much faster wireless signal in this type of setup.

  • Report works in Crystal Reports, but not when scheduled in Crystal Server

    Hi,
I have a pretty simple report designed in Crystal Reports 2008. Basically it shows a list of call notes (memo field) from customer activities in our CRM system. The report works fine in Crystal reports, but when run or scheduled in Crystal Server 2008 the output is always blank. Furthermore, the page format etc. is "lost" in crystal server, so that the output is PDF of a quadratic blank sheet (not my standard A4 format)... Exporting to other formats - excel, Word etc. all gives the same result.
I have tried to strip out various formulas, formatting etc from the report, but nothing helps. Which leads me to thinking that the real problem is that the report contains a memo field? Anyone else had this problem?

    Hi Claus,
I've had issues between what Crystal does and what the Report Server does.  To resolve this, we found out Crystal Reports 2008 latest service pack has some things that will fix Server 2008 and they aren't in the latest Server update.
We updated Crystal Reports 2008 on our machines.  Installed the latest update for Crystal Server and then installed Crystal 2008 on the Report Server and installed the Crystal Reports 2008 update.  A lot of our compatibility issues went away after that.
    Good luck,
    Brian

  • Excel slows down when network drive is mapped

Since a couple of months we are experiencing strange behaviour of excel (2011) on Lion 10.7.5
Excel versions from 14.3.1. to 14.3.4 all the same behaviour.
    Symptom 1)
When I connect the Time Capsule drive , Excel slows down by factor 100 when entering text. Needs up to 2 seconds to react on a key stroke.
When I disconnect the handle, excel works fast again.
    (repeatable, reproducible)
    Symptom 2)
on the network drive, always at the same place, a file named ~abcde.xls... occurs (exact name forgotten, but it is a recent file name
    preceded with a tilde sign)
deleting of the file does not affect speed
the file reappears occasionally (TC backup is switched off!)
    Where is the ghost??? :-D
    maybe these symptoms are uncorrelated.
Why the heck does Excel slow down when I open the network drive??
Why does this happen on 10.7.5 and not on 10.6.8?
    Anyone any idea?
    thanks,
    Stefan

Thanks. Away on holiday right now, but will do it as soon as I get back next week.
Out of curiosity, the external drive works fine when connected directly via USB to the laptop. I took that to mean that the problem wasn't to do with the drive, but probably the network. Is it possible there could be a problem with the drive which only shows up when it's used as a network drive?

  • HELP - 88.2 k 24-bit wav file is slowing down when imported to garageband

i have an 88.2 k 24-bit wav file that is slowing down when imported to garageband. How do i get around this problem?

You need to convert it to 44.1 16 bit. You can do that with iTunes.

safari browser seems to slow down when working with my wifi ASUS AC 68U router - any ideas on why?

Is your problem with Safari on the iPad, or some MacBook Air?
Are you sure that the ASUS firmware is tested with the device having trouble and its operating system?
Note: MacBook Airs do not run iOS.  They run Mac OS X, Windows or Linux.

  • Slow down when processing image clipping in photo shop with pen tool

Adobe cs5 slow down when processing image clipping use with pen tool. The path is applying after few seconds when we draw on the image. My system supporting 4 GB memory with 64 bit.

The main thing i use paths for in photoshop is extracting objects from photos.
Other uses include stroking paths with the paint tools. For example, if you had
a powerline to remove, one could trace the line with the pen tool and then stroke
the path with spot healing brush set to content aware fill.

  • Slow down when using SHARE function?

Whenever I use the share feature to wirelessly transfer files from my Mac Air to my Macpro everything on my macpro slows down. the mouse moves slow- windows take forever to respond- or just will not close at all. I tried switching my wireless mouse to a wire and same issue. Shouldn't the transfer be a background task? Why is it effecting the overall performance of the machine?

Your explanation makes sense; I had not considered the output size because I thought that the application would make all the necessary adjustments to the size I chose.
I was not able to find the square pixel reference (below is the advanced area) but I did resolve the issue. At first I changed the output to be 400 x 300, and while the bars still existed, they were greatly reduced. So I took a screen capture and in Photoshop measured the height of the remaining top bar at 3 pixels. So, I reduced my height in PrE7 by a total of 6 pixels to 294 and that completely corrected the issue. Thanks for your help on this.

  • Crystal Reports Slow on BOXI 3.1 Universes

Our Universes are extremely slow in returning results (Crystal Reports).
    Some Facts:
Data Warehouse tables Oracle, 26 million rows, indexed by fiscal year. Report parameters include Fiscal year and Accounting Month.
We watched the SQL from the Oracle side when running a report. It appears that the Universe is not passing the FY parameters from Crystal Reports to utilize the indexing in the data tables, thus is build a massive temp file which is consuming resources and taking a great deal of time to process.
Are we correct in the way this is functioning? What can we do to optimize processing time? How may we pass the FY parameter to the SQL to utilize table indexing?
    Barry

    Barry,
If this was glaringly obvious to all but our Universe Designers, then the kindness of a response would have been appreciated, otherwise what use is a forum?
Well first off, congrats on running the rabbit trails to solve your problem, and thank you for reposting your "thinking out louds" for the benefit of others who are running into or may in the future run into the same problem.
In regards to Universe Designers and their ability to "see ahead", this is hit or miss, and now that your Universe Designers have a couple of more notches on their belts they may "see more" ahead next time.  Experience grows in exponential ways, so I'd say "be patient".  On this same thread, the approach of any good Universe Designer is to always think in terms of SQL when setting things up.  For example, applying a join between two relations requires the knowledge of inner or outer (or left outer or right outer) joins.  Without knowing the proper relation, you'll have bad joins.  In terms of displaying the data, any manipulation that is applied to a column may affect performance, so the Universe Designer may need to work with the Database Administrator to see if a new column can be constructed that dresses up the data as it's staged to the repository versus dressing it up on the fly.  How does a Universe Designer come to know all of this?  By experience, and sometimes by experimenting.  And also, being ready to make adjustments when things go awry.  If you have a bad reporting day, then that can be understood, however, many bad reporting days is symptomatic of not understanding a principle along the way.  Anyhow, thanks for letting me ramble a bit, but I encourage you to continue making contributions to the forum as it will benefit lots of folks along the way, even you sometimes.
    Thanks,
    John

  • How can I get my audio to move down when I move my video up without making two separate moves?

    Hey
I have moved to Premiere as a lot of the companies I edit for are now using it. Overall impression is GREAT especially CC vs 5.5 which I started in.
In relation to my question, when I move my video track up a layer my audio stays on track 1 or whereever it started. This is really frustrating as it overwrites the exsiting audio when I move it.
Is there are workaround other than moving the audio down first then moving the clip along, I find this slows me down a lot.
Is this coming out in a new update, or is there a quick solution i missing?
I am about to head into 8 days of fast turnaround multi cam editing so any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Piers Faircloth Harding

I understand that side of it, its a feature which I was used to in FCP and now I dont have it so was wondering if CC has this feature.
In realation to audio not caring what layer it is on you are correct but if I want to shift it with my video to a different layer it is a labourous task when editing under pressure in time sensitive situations eg onsite VNRs for events where you have to have ambient bg or when you want ambient from b roll over talking to have to shift it down separately before moving your clip to avoid overwriting exsisting.

  • Crystal Reports 2008 - ERROR when changing datasource

Hi, I have a report that is connected to a test database that needs to have the datasource changed to the production database.
The Crystal Report has 2 "on-demand" subreports that the datasource has been changed for as well.
SQL 2000 Databases on 2 different servers (W2003) used the "Set Datasource Location" and followed steps listed previously in the forum.
Databases have different names but all tables are same in both.
Database Expert is showing all tables coming from new datasource BUT when report is run parameter prompt comes up, click ok
Error message - "Failed to retrieve data from the database" - click OK
Error message - "Invalid Argument provided"
Does anyone have an ideas on how to track down the issues.
Please let me know if you need any other information

    Ok answers below:-
    1. Crystal Reports 2008 Cersion 12.1.0.892
    2. Connecting via OLEDB
    3. Yes able to refresh newly created report without sub reports enclosed
    4. Didn't know that this could be done - this report was done for us by a consultant who doesn't know how to fix this issue and reckons there is a bug in Crystal
    5. Sub reports are accessed after main report is run (I think that means that they are linked)
    6. Not sure how to do this as am newbie to Crystal Reports and we are relying on the person that we contracted to write the reports to know what he is doing.
Any help appreciated I will try to go into the sub report and unlink - think I have found out how to do this.
Thanks for the help so far!!

  • Crystal Reports 2008 fails when called from e Web Service under 64bit OS

I have discovered that Crystal Reports 2008 doesn't work when called from a Web Service running under 64bit Windows platforms (in my case Windows 2003 Server and Windows XP 64bit); practically no object is instantiated. I've tried several solutions without success.
Before creating a wrapper component to use under COM+, is there anybody who has a better and cheaper solution than creating another component to wrap CR 2008 ?

    Hi Sergio,
Before I mark this post as assumed answered I would just like to say and re-iterate that at this time there is no one answer and we fully understand your concerns. As you know in CR 6.0 it came in 16 and 32 bit versions because at the time 32 bit was relatively new but 16 bit was the norm. This is also true for 32 to 64 bit, 32 is the norm and 64 bit is relatively new. We know and are well aware 64 bit is the future and we are working as quickly as we can to move in that direction. Because of the complexity of the Product it's not simply a matter of re-compiling all of our dll's in 64 bit format. The core of our data connectivity with our database drivers which are dependant on third party clients must also need to support 64 bit modes. This as well as Printer drivers also need to be 64 compatable, there are a multitude of dependencies that we rely on that must add 64 bit support. As a programmer you are well aware of the issues around Thunking back and forth between 32 to 64 bits, it can cause delays and potentially loss of data which is a whole other issue. Not to mention also that we would have to ship both versions potentially doubling the size of the distribution packages or doubling the size of the dll's to have the ability to work in both modes. Relatively speaking of course, it would not be double the size but the variables would need to be able to allocate 32 or 64 memory blocks.
The other option is to produce 2 separate versions, this alone is a massive project. Any issue would need to be fixed in separate code streams.
So I'm sure you can see it's not simply a matter of saying yes we support 64 bit. It's a massive project that is going to take time to do and we have to wait for the third party drivers to commit also.
Visual Studio .NET 2005 and 2008 is the only option if you want true 64 bit but you will be limited on what DB's you can support and export formats you can export to. They are the only drivers we did convert to 64 bit.
    Thank you for your understanding
    Don
