Crystal Report based on BEX 3.X query + Hierachies

Hi,
I have built a Crystal Report (2008) based on BW Bex 3.5 query.
The report has a hierachical group based on a hierachy
similar to the strategy used in
http://blog.mastering-sap-and-businessobjects.com/2009/07/10/crystal-reports-and-sap-bw-hierarchies--conditional-formatting-part-2.aspx
Certain sub and parent nodes in the hierachy have suppressed to make sure the report is formatted correctly.
The user running the report does NOT have the option of choosing the level of nodes to hide  or show.
At this point in time the report is showing the correct nodes, however there is a concern that once users start re-arranging the hierchies and adding nodes that the reports will have to be maintained. (Which I think is a catch 22 situation)
Does anyone have another suggestion how to have the reports be "Dynamic" (based on the hierachy) and still not have the danger of the hierachies changing and affecting the Reports
(I certainly can think of no other ways EXCEPT creating a structure in the BW Query - which means that in any case if the hierachies changes, the BW Query will have to be maintained)
Kind Regards,
Nicole

Hi,
Crystal Reports is using a parent child relationship which means the complete hierarchy is dynamic and in case your hierarchy is changing on the BW side Crystal Reports will pick up those changes automatically - assuming we talking about additional levels or levels been removed.

  • How to bulid a Crystal report based on Bex query as source

    Hi,
    I have requirment where the end user wants the query in Crystal.I built a Bex query in Bex query designer.I would like to know how to create crystal report based onthe Bex query.
    Thanks,

    Hi
    The Crystal Reports are integrated with BW such that the query built in BW can be used to bulit Crystal Reports on them.
    After launching the Crystal Reports, you will have and option : "Open reprt from BW" whcih will help you in opening the BW Queries and create Crystal Reports.
    Also in the Menu there is an optin SAP-->Create New Report from a Query

  • Issues with Infoview data refresh on Crystal Reports based on BW BeX query

    Hi all,
    We applied the Business Objects XI3.1 fix pack 3.1 with Integration toolkit fix pack 3.1 in our environment.
    After that we started having trouble with Crystal Reports based on BeX queries that use manual input variables.
    The data refresh would not work in Infoview.
    The data refresh would work using the Crystal Reports designer gui on local machine.
    regards,
    Abhishek

    Hi all,
    This thread is for the benefit of all the BW/BO people who faced issues with BO reports not working after certain fix pack installations.
    After lot of time spent in debugging this and researching and some help from SAP, we found that BASIS had missed a step in the BO patching. This step was relating to applying some BW transports in the BW system related to the new Integration toolkit.
    Please use below notes for the BW transport task of patching BOE Integration toolkit.
    Refer to Note#1472104 which explains about loading the
    transports when we install BO Service Packs or Fix Packs. Also please refer to the Note#1271751 for the advice on transports for BW systems.
    Please go through page 206 (Configuring transports) in the SAP Integration Kit installation guide. You can download this document at below link.

    Refer to Note#1345919 which explains about the process of loading transports for SAP IK.

    Would likes to know how to use the calculated key figures used at BEx query level in Crystal Reports? and
    Creation of complex parametes in Crystal reports on SAP data.
    I really appreciate your quick reply.

  • BO BI 4.0: WebI report based on BEx query (OLE DB enabled)

    Hi Experts
    We are trying to create WEBI reports based on BEx queries, but we are experiencing some issues. We have created two BEx queries og two separate multiproviders and opened them for external use but checking the OLE DB enable checkbox. In WebI we are now only able to use on of the queries as a data source (even though both are OLE DB enabled).
    Are there any limitations to which multiproviders that can be used to create BEx queries for WebI reports?
    We are using BO BI 4.0 and BW 7.0 SP 5.
    Kind regards
    Erik

    Hi again Henry
    We use BW 7.01 Support package 5 (we know it should have been at least 6), SAP GUI 7.20 patch 9, BEx 7.2 patch 6 and BO 4.0 patch 11.
    The BW user that is synchronized to BO has almost all rights (almost sap_all). When we log on to BEx directly with the same user we use in BO, we are able to run both BEx queries without any problems. When we then log on to BO (with the same user), we are only able to use on of the queries in WebI.
    As you say, we have to following setup:
    -     BO users are synchronized from our BW system and when they log on to BO they use the SAP authentication.
    -     The user that is synchronized from BW has been added to the Administrator group in BO
    -     The OLAP connection is set to SSO so that the authorization in the BW system is used.
    It is really strange that we are not able to use on of our multi providers in BW in WebI. As you say, we just need to try debugging with changing the authorization concept, changing the OLAP connection setup and so on to see if that helpsu2026

  • Launch a Crystal Report Based on a Bus. Objects Universe with code

    Post Author: BobM
    CA Forum: .NET
    Launch a Crystal Report Based on a Bus. Objects Universe with code
    We have purchased Business Objects Enterprise XI R2 and have designed a universe.  We have hundreds of scheduled reports that have been configured through the InfoView.  The problem is that we run these reports on a very odd date schedule and it is extremely cumbersome to go into these report definitions and change the dates in InfoView.
    We would like to be able to store all the report parameters in a table (outside of the BO universe) along with the date and time we would like it to run.  All of this would need to be tagged with the report name so we know what report we are referring to.  Then we would like to sweep this table periodically (or use some other triggering mechanism) and launch the reports as specified (hopefully) using an API/SDK (like the one that used to be available with Crystal) to launch the .RPT file and pass all of the appropriate parameters, and possibly the credentials if need be.
    In short we want to roll our own report scheduler due to some limitations we have found in the InfoView scheduler.
    My main question is, does an API/SDK exist that can launch a crystal report that is based on a Business Objects Universe?  As I had stated, it needs to be able to pass parameters in the report call.  Based on my previous projects using Crystal connected directly to a SQL Server DB, I beleive this is possible, but I would like to hear from others that may be doing something similar with a Business Objects Universe back end.
    We are using Crystal Reports XI R2.  Just to be clear, all of the functionality I specified up to the point where the report needs to be called is not an issue, we know how to do all of that.
    Thanks in advance,Bob

    With the code, you've presumably logged on to the database. To insert objects on to a new report you'd want to use code along the following lines:
    private void AddTableFromDataSet(ref CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument rpt, System.Data.DataSet ds)
    ISCDReportClientDocument rasReport = rpt.ReportClientDocument;
    // Convert the DataSet to an ISCRDataset object (something the ISCDReportClientDocument can understand)
    CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.DataDefModel.ISCRDataSet rasDS;
    rasDS = CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.DataSetConversion.DataSetConverter.Convert(ds);
    // Add the dataset as a data source to the report
    rasReport.DatabaseController.AddDataSource((object)rasDS);
    // Add a field to the report canvas
    // Note: This is quick and dirty. No positioning, resizing, formatting, etc.
    CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.Controllers.ISCRResultFieldController rfc;
    CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.DataDefModel.ISCRTable crTable;
    CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.DataDefModel.ISCRField crField;
    rfc = rasReport.DataDefController.ResultFieldController;
    crTable = rasReport.Database.Tables[0];
    crField = crTable.DataFields[2]; // Hardcoded field "Customer Name" in the Customer table from Xtreme Sample Database
    rfc.Add(-1, crField);
    // Save the report template to disk (without data)
    //object path = @"c:\documents and settings\administrator\desktop\";
    //rasReport.SaveAs("test.rpt", ref path, 0);
    //MessageBox.Show("Done!");

    Also, consult your 'Report Application Server .NET SDK Developer Guide" and  "Report Application Server .NET API Guide". I'd provide the appropriate links, but you do not mention the version of CR you are using...

  • Performances with Crystal Reports (based on BW queries)

    Hi,
    I've created some Crystal reports based on BW queries, and I'm really interested in performances purposes. The BW queries I created are quick (with neither free characteristics nor hierarchies), and when I use them in a Crystal report, I identify a loss of time in the data extraction (BW --> Crystal), in the Crystal management of the layout and then in the publication to BOE.
    To be able to use Crystal on BW queries is very useful, but if the response times are too much important, that's not good...
    Is there any customizing to perform to get better performance ? Are there some analysis already performed with Performance point of view ?
    If you have any best practice or piece of advice to shorten the response time in Crystal reports, I'm really interested in.
    Thanks for your replies,
    Best regards
    Jonathan

    Hi,
    there are many SDN threads or forums dealing with the integration BW and Crystal.
    You should have a look to the forums created by Ingo Hilgefort (SAP expert on the BW-BO integration).
    You can start with that one :

  • Single Crystal Report based on Five different SAP BEx Quries.

    Hi,
    I need to create 5 different Charts (in a single report)  based on five different SAP BW BEx Queries. These are charts with 3- axes i.e. X,Y,Z.
    The example requirement is to create Line charts (Vertical Mixed Line Charts) and deatils are as follows: The chart should show CPU Utilization % for different servers (eg. Servers1,2,3,4,5) for each day in a particular month.
    Axes details:
    X- Axis - Date eg: 01 /09/2010 to 30/09/2010
    Y-Axis - CPU Utilisation Percent
    Z-Axis - Servers from 1 to 5
    The above detailed chart comes from a BEx Query . In this way there are four more BEx queries which should give four other charts.
    My queries are:
    1. Is this possible to create a single report using five different BEx queries and Create 5 different charts(one chart from each BEx Query) in a single tab as in the current manual report.(All the five Line charts should be downloadable to a single sheet in Excel)
    2. One more, should I use Crystal Reports only? The charts are of high format natute so Web Intelligence will not produce the same.  Is any other tool that helps for this requirement.
    3. I can create five different Universes based on BEx Queries. Is this possible to create a single report from five different Universes.
    Please advise.
    Nanda Kishore.
    Edited by: Nanda Kishore B on Oct 21, 2010 8:05 AM

    To start with you cannot use SAP BW universes in Crystal Reports., YOu have to use the BW MDX driver.
    For performance reasons I would suggest to add 4 subreports into your main reports containing each on of the 4 remaining charts.

  • Crystal Report on BW BEx Query via MDX in SAP Portal

    Hi!
    We need to display a CR in the Portal. The CR is based on a MDx BW Query. To create and display the report is no problem. Even saving back to BW is working fine.
    But how do we get this CR displayed in the EP?
    Thanks in advance
    Jörn

    Hi,
    Should only the BO SAP Integration Kit iViews / URL iViews be used and are the Crystal Report iViews (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/36/d4a94076b63713e10000000a155106/frameset.htm) obsolete?
    Yes as the Crystal Report iView are based on an older version
    If we export the Crystal reports to SAP BW, is it possible to call them with BEx iViews like the xCelsius reports? (Like with DASHBOARD=<report name> for xCelsius)
    From where can we get the Crystal Report ID, if we export them to SAP BW?
    You should use the BusinessObjects Integration Kit iView template for Crystal REports and the ID can be retrieved from the CMC

  • Crystal Report based on BW query

    We create a Crystal report (CR 2008 ) with the main report based on on Bex Query on an SAP BW Server based on an infocube and a sub report based on an SQL relational table (Table, cluster or SAP Functions) on the same SAP BW Server. The execution is Ok on the Crystal Client but when we deploy on the InfoView portal (and on CMC) we have only one connection defined (it seems it detect that it was the same server name and keep only the first connection).

    We don't use Universe (For Bex Query SAP don't recommande it) . The queries are directly embeded in the crystal report

  • Two problmes between  Crystal Reports 2008 and Bex Query

    Hi Gurus.
    I have two problems with Crystal Reports 2008 when It obtains data from a Bex Query (SAP MDX query connection).
    1)     I have defined some Parameters Fields using the follow options:
    Type: String
    List of Values: Dynamic
    Value Options Level1:
                         Show on (Viewer) Panel :Editable
                          Prompt text: <text>
                          Sort Order: Ascending by value
                          Prompt With description Only : False
                          Optional Prompt: True
                          Allow multiple values: True
                          Allow discrete values: True
                          Allow range values: False
    When I execute the report with the client of Crystal Reports 2008 (the developer tool), in the initial screen shows a list box where I can select the values from the left box and add it to the left box (as a usually filter). When the number of options (LOV) is more than  the maximum of the system, I have a input box bellow the list box, where I can insert any value (manually) and a button to insert it into the left box. When I publish the Report in the infoview, this filter is modified and the input box where I can introduce manually values is not showed and I can insert only the values showed in the list box, it causes that I can`t select a lot of values that is in the master data of SAP BW, because they arenu2019t listed in the list box.
    There is any option to ability this option in the infoview.
    2)     My Bex query, have a date filter with variable in the restricted key figures, when I execute a Crystal Reports, the infoview (and the Crystal Reports 2008 designer) ask me 2 times the same date, first only the date and second the date and the rest of parameters (introduced in the report of Crystal Reports).
    Why I need insert the date 2 times? How can I modify the Crystal Report for ask me only one time all the parameters?.
    Thanks.

    Hi Abhilash.
    Thank you for your information.
    1) Yes, the parameters are created in the Crystal Reports designer. I have created the parameters in the Crystal Report because I use the same Bex Query to create some Crystal Report, in other case, I will need create some Bex Query.
    2)The Bex query has the date filters and I have created some filters in Crystal Reports designer, the date filter from the Bex query is created automatically in the Crystal Report Designer but I don't use it, I haven't created it anytime. I use my filters only in the record selection. The date filters from the Bex query is showed as Static, and I can`t delete it, if I modify the parameter to dynamic or static with values, at first step ask me again static without values and the second step of the report execution ask me the parameter as I have defined in Crystal Reports Designer, my parameters fields are dynamic. A lot of reports have subreport, but I have created one of them without subreport (to trial) and the Crystal Reports ask me the date filters at first execution, and when I insert the date filters, in the second step, ask me the date filters again and my parameters fields again.
    Thank you again.

  • WebI report based on BEx query in Live Office document

    Hi
    We have a BEx query in BW that has one input ready variable (period). Then we have created a WebI report based on this BEx query (the WebI report itself does not have any prompts). When we run the WebI report we get asked to enter a value in the BEx variable (remember: this is not a WebI prompt). Until this stage everything works fine. Then we have created a Live Office document and added the WebI report. When we refresh the Live Office document, the BEX variable is not shown. The data that is retrieved is from the last time the WebI report run. The refresh option is set to u201COn demand: From the databaseu201D.
    Is there a way to get the BEx variables to be shown when refreshing the Live Office document? Remember, we do not use WebI prompts.
    We use BW 7.3 and BO BI 4.0.
    Kind regards
    Erik

    Hi,
    Unfortunately, this feature has not been developped the BICS connectiviy. It is only available for manda
    tory prompts based on universe. Others have noted the same problem, so there is an enhancement request for the feature to be available using BICS connection in the "Ideas Place".
    Use the link to vote for the idea, more votes gives a better chance that this will be picked up for development.

  • ProcessdpCommandEx error when adding or removing object from WebI report (based on BEX query) query panel object list

    Hi,
    We have WebI reports build on BEX using BAPI connectivity. When we are trying to add a object in query panel in a existing report we are getting this ProcessdpCommandEx error. But error does not appear when we add at the end of the list of objects already added.
    Can you calrify whether this could be some setting issue or it is a known bug?
    Can you share SAP Note No in case it is a known bug?

    Hi Avijit,
    This error occurs in case of any failure in the connectivity. It is like the data providers are not getting processed.
    You have mentioned that the issue does not come with newly created reports
    Are you creating new reports on migrated universe or a newly created universe?
    If issue only comes with migrated universe, please check if the connection has been migrated properly and required middleware and database connectors are in place.
    If connections are in place, try importing and exporting the universe once and check.
    In case, new report works fine with migrated universe, then you can simply try to re-point the universe by editing the query and can run it again and check.

  • Can I create one single  crystal report using 2 bex queries

    HI all,
    I have 2 bex queries and has to develope a single crystal report .Is it possible???? If so, than how to connect two bex queries  and develope  one single crystal report.Any other option is also fine. I mean ....no need to use crystal..( I can go for one single webi..).But need to know the approach ...
    or else...can I create universe on 1 bex and other universe on other bex ..and go for one single webi report..
    Only problem is client is particular about one single report(either crystal or webi)
    if i go for webi ...I know we can use link universe option but I dont know whether it works fro OLAP environment.
    Please let me know if I can link OLAp universes and go for 1 single webi report.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Mahathi

    You can use either CR or WebI.
    In CR Designer create the report using the SAP toolbar (Create report from query) based on the 1st BEx query. Then use the Database expert (first entry in the Database menu) to add an additional connection to your 2nd BEx query (+Create new connection->SAP BW DX query). You can then join the results of the 2 different queries in the database expert also.. Please note that if you do NOT want to join the result sets, then it is more efficient to use subreports. Create two different CR reports, each based on one of the BEx queries and then use one of those as your main report and insert the other one into it as subreport. Once embedded you do not have to keep the separate .rpt file of your second report.
    For Webi you must build 2 universes, each based on one of your BEx queries. In your report you can add multiple queries based on different universes. You can join the results sets here by using the Merge dimensions button in the report editor area.
    Regards,
    Stratos
    PS; Keep in mind that joining a large number of rows at report level (either in CR or WebI) can cause performance problems. If this is your requirement, how many rows do you expect to get back from each individual query?
