Crystal Viewer for the Web

Hello,
We are currently attempting to use Crystal reports out on our web, the reports are static and we were told that there is a free viewer down load for the web, is this current?  If so where would you be able to provide me the link?  I have also been told that there are only 3 threads available if we use the Viewer, which I believe indicates that we can only have 3 consecutive users, is this also true?
Thanks for your time.....

Just as an FYI, htere is a forum for SDK developers (.NET Development - Crystal Reports;
SAP Crystal Reports, version for Visual Studio) that will be better to post to in the future.
To create a web app in.NET you will need to reference the Crystal Reports assemblies for .net, place the viewer on your form, code the report path and any database logon parameters as well as any other code that you need to run the report (selection formulas, parameters, etc., etc.). • Views for list web parts. Is there a way to allow users to change the view for a list web part without being redirected?

    Hi,
I added a list view web part into a SharePoint 2013 page and it  is working as expected, except for one thing.
I have enabled the option for the user to change the view for the web part. However when the user changes it, the user is redirected away from the page containing the web part, to the URL of the list itself.
Is there a way to circumvent this issue so when the user selects a different view it updates the listing in the web part itself, rather than the user being redirected?
Thanks in advance for the help.
    Regards,
    P.

    Hi,
Please understand that one page can only display one view. You could find it out by observing the Address in browser when switching among different views for a list.
If you would like to change the view of a list web part, you could go to web part propertites > Select view and configure it.
In addition, here is a thread with similar requirement that might help:

  • Is it possible to create a rendition targeted for the web based content viewer?

The way PDFs render in the web broswer is (presently) pretty bad.
Can we create a rendition of a Folio which is specifically (and only) for the purpose of being viewed in the web based content viewer?
Also can we leverage the downloading options in the Folio Producer to yield better results and less lags in rendering? I would like to suggest that Adobe adds some kind of indicator/status-bar which shows remiaing assets still being downloaded. For example, video overlays aren't immediately available.
Despite these quirks, this new capability is huge and we really appreciate it!

It's too bad the selectable text will go away. This will also hamper the web-based views in terms of accessability, correct? - something very important to our stake holders.
Does Adobe plan to bring these good points of the PDF format back in a future release?
Thanks for your consistently fast replies Bob!

  • Save for the web colors

I was having trouble with image colors when I used 'save for the web' and I found a couple of solutions in tech notes regarding embedded color profiles but there is some thing I just don't understand.
    It says:
"To ensure that colors are consistent in Photoshop, ImageReady and the Save for the Web dialog box, use an embedded color profile for display in each, or preview the image in Photoshop using the monitors RGB color space. Note that if you use an embedded color profile for display, colors may appear incorrectly if you view the image in an application that cannot read color profiles."
Can somebody give me the lowdown on what exactly a color profile is (what it does, when you should embed one etc) and some examples of the kind of application that can't read them i.e. if I send the photos via e-mail can the profile be read? put them on a web page?
    Thanks for any illumination!
    j.

A profile is a file that decribes to applications that can read them the color and tonal characteristics of a particular device. A profile can also be a mathematical description of a particular RGB or CMYK Lab color space. You've probably seen RGB working spaces in Photoshop referred to in terms like sRGB, Adobe RGB, ProPhoto RGB, etc. Any application that is color managed and can read and use profiles needs a minimum of two profile to to the job - a source profile and a destination profile. When you're looking at images on your computer monitor, the source is your RGB working space and the destination is your specific monitor. Photoshop uses both the working space profile and the monitor profile to display your image correctly. Most other applications in Windows do not read profile and have to assume either "Monitor RGB" or sRGB as the source for the file. If your file is not one of those, then false asumptioins are made and the image does not appear correctly. Some web browsers like Firefox 3 and Apple Safari do read profiles but not necessarily by default. You have to turn the option in FF. Some email readers are color managed, others not.
Profiles can be and usually are embedded in the document when you save it. Unless you have a good reason for not embedding a profile, it's almost always a good idea. It adds 4K to the file size and will let someone down the line who is using a color managed application see the file how you intended it. You have no control over the others, but that's life online. Currentlyl the best strategy is convert files destined for the web to sRGB and embed the profiles. That might change in the future, but it's a good place to be right now.

  • How to create clean text for the web in Photoshop/Illustrator

I am puzzled to death on how in the world to get clean text for the web in Photoshop/Illustrator, particularly white text. I want my text to turn out exactly like the text at this website: thepainteddoor.org
If you scroll down to the bottom of that page, notice the titles "Featured Media", "Social Networking", and "Contact Information". They are all .gif images. I have tried to replicate what these images look like for about 3 hours now to no avail. Can anyone tell me how to do this? It just looks like a simple outline or drop shadow, but I can't get it to show up like that. If someone could help me replicate that effect with text (aka make it show up clean as an image), I would graciously give them money through PayPal*.
    * = I will only give cash if it will replicate it exactly (and I mean exactly)..and it won't be too much..I'm a poor college student. :-P
    Thanks in advance!
    Thomas

You would do it the way I created it:
Select the Text tool in Photoshop and set the font and parameters as I have listed.  Then enter whatever text you like.  It will be rendered over the top of the lower layers you may have in the document.  Save as an image of the appropriate type and you're there.
Note that "lower layers you may have in the document" could conceivably be none at all (i.e., you render the text over a transparent document).  You could imagine saving that as a .png with transparency and get light text in an image that could then be put over the top of anything else.  The alpha mixing will see to it that the edges smoothly blend with the background.  I haven't actually tried this (I usually do try my own suggestions) because of lack of time right now.

  • Oracle Help for the Web 2.0 Production

Oracle Help for the Web 2.0 is now available on OTN Downloads.
Oracle Help for the Web (OHW) 2.0 is a major update to the previous releases OHW 1.1x and OHW 1.0.x, and is designed and recommended to replace both.
Some of the new features in 2.0 include the following:
    Support for Bookmarking Navigator Pages
OHW 2.0 no longer uses frames to store navigational state on the webpage. Each navigator stores its complete state on the URL, allowing each page to be bookmarked. This includes TOC locations, keyword locations, and search runs. In the view topic page, the frame information is also saved, allowing a user to forward the link via email, etc to the displayed topic. In addition, if you navigate to a named anchor within a topic page, this page position is also saved and is bookmarkable.
Multiple Locale Support in a Single Instance
OHW 2.0 can now support multiple locales in the same servlet instance. After you register the helpsets in the OHW configuration file, the OHW servlet will automatically determine the best locale to use for a user request (based on browser settings and what locales are available), and display the localized helpset (along with a localized OHW chrome) to the user. This feature also means that if you navigate to a topic in English, and then send the link via email to a user whose browser supports Japanese, if the Japanese helpset is registered, the topic link will appear in Japanese to the second user.
    Search Engine Support
OHW has been specially designed so that search engine crawlers can reach all hosted content (including table of contents, and index pages) and easily traverse within and between the available navigators. Page titles have also been redesigned to make pages easier to locate from within a search engine result set.
Ability to Share Resources Across Localized Helpsets
OHW can be configured so that helpsets can share resources such as images and CSS stylesheets. Since each localized helpset no longer needs its own resources, this can dramatically reduce the size of the deployed file.
    Relative Content Locations
Content locations can now be specified relative to the OHW configuration file.
    True Popup Support
OHW now properly supports Oracle Help popup links. Following this link will bring up a dynamic draggable DHTML window (or a normal popup window if the browser does not support it) with the requested topic page.
All Level Merging in the Table of Contents
Using the default TOC engines, each level of the TOC will merge like elements together. This change reflects modifications made to core Oracle Help classes and mimics the feature added to Oracle Help for Java (OHJ).
New Tree-based Table of Contents Navigator
The Tree-based TOC navigator shows the data in a heirarchical fashion and allows the user to see the full TOC (and not just a limited part of the TOC, as with previous versions of OHW). The tree-based TOC navigator is a standard navigator and can be added by including it in the helpset configuration file.

Yes, I am now able to access this page and download OHW.
    Thanks very much,
    Lucie

  • Getting best possible look for the web!

I am using Compressor for compressing my footage for the web. When I export out of FCP my footage looks nice and crystal clear however when I compress the footage then upload to the net its not as nice looking as it was. Now I recently bought a Compressor DVD Tutorial by Ripple Training Series. I pretty much knew just about everything on that DVD. I did try some suggestive settings that have made somewhat of a difference but its not crystal clear like many videos I see uploaded to DVXuser. The settings below might be okay it might just be the hosting site I have my videos on. Currently I am using www.sharkle.com
Here are some settings I use:
Compression Type - Sorenson Video 3
    Frame Rate 15
    Key Frame Every 75 frames
    Quality - Medium
Restrict Data to 400kbps (this is for DSL modems) around 1500 for cable modems
    Audio
    Q Design Music 2
    Channels = Stereo
    Sample Rate = 48k
    Streaming = Fast Start
    Geometry
    320x240
If anyone sees anything that I should change or try out differently please let me know. Again I am using Compressor and can also compress using Quicktime as well.
Here is a link to the latest video I completed for the web:
    http://www.sharkle.com/video/78755/
I am not sure if SHARKLE is recompressing the footage. If it is then thats why its not as good of quality.

Their making a FLV file from your sent in video.
Push your video back up to a high quality movie and send that in to them.
What you have sent in has all been squeezed highly with compression. Then they take and further compress it in the FLV format. Double compressing...not good.

  • Recomended configurations for creating video for the web

I'm working on a project creating video segments for the web (no plans for broadcast of DVD) and I'm looking for opinions on the most efficient way to use FCP to do this. We are shooting with an HD camera with a green screen and composting a couple of additional layers of Motion graphics and we found that the render times were really long. I'm looking for ways to mitigate this, on thing we did was switch from shooting in 1080p to 720p. We also tried shooting at 24fps instead of the broadcast 60fps and that cut our render time by a good percentage. Since the final product is going to be 640 by 360 at 15fps it seems like a good trade off but are there any down sides I'm not thinking of.
I was also wondering if there might be an advantage to working at the size of the final product, if the FCP sequence were 640 by 360 would there be any advantages in terms of render times and what might the disadvantages would be.
This is my first semi-professional project, just been a hobbyist up until now so any advice is appreciated.

those simple steps reduced the number of pixels in each frame from about a million to 750,00, about 25%; and you reduced the number of frames from 30 or 60 to 24 or 48. So, yeah, your rendering times are going down. If your Motion project has ten HD layers you're saving tons of processing.

Absolutely. But you engaged the project without knowing how you were going to accomplish anything; implies your plans for improving workflow will be similarly incomplete. We all got by with NTSC and plan ol' DV for decades. The web is a low end distribution system, not a theatrical viewing experience. You can force your viewers to download a huge file and watch it on their TVs or you can open it up in weensy teeny window on their iPhones.

Purists will be correct in telling you better source footage results in better uploads. I will tell you that's true but it's academic. Your realworld needs are based on your web upload, not your plans to archive high def footage for future exploitation.
Here's what I'd do: Work backwards. Figure out what your upload needs are--exactly. Research Compressor and other compression systems to determine how you are going to process your project to get the target output. Now decide what format that software wants to process to create the best results. then figure out how you want to provide that input for the compression application. then figure out what the tradeoffs are for your original footage in terms of your camera resources, your skills with the camera, and your mistaken impression that effects and chromakey should be fast.

  • Best Video Compression for the web???

I have read a number of discussions about which codec to use to compress video for the web and I’ve done my own tests and bar the longer encode time, which is not a problem to me, H.264 seems to come out as the best. I can get a superb quality, small enough for a quick download EXCEPT… this website needs to be friendly to the PC community.
What do you all suggest I do?
Go with lower quality MPEG-4 or Sorenson 3 and have my work look “not so good” or use awesome H.264 and provide a link to download the codec, which busy PC people will probably not bother to do.
    This is my dilemma.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

I love the results I get when using H.264. Even low data rate files look good (even when I display them double size).
But it requires your page visitors have QuickTime 7 installed to view your QT files.
QuickTime 7 is nearly a year old and most of your Mac viewers will have it installed. It is also "bundled" with the iTunes software download that many PC users have installed.
H.264 is the only codec that requires version 7. Any other choice can be played using older versions of QuickTime.
As much as I like H.264 its installed viewer base doesn't reflect the visitors system settings for Web work. If your crowd is savvy to QuickTime they will not mind the download to upgrade. If you use tracking software on your visitors you'll be able to see if they hang around for the download.
MPEG-4 may be a better Web use choice.

  • 24p for the Web... de-interlacing?

    Hi all,
I am stumped. I am editing a project in FCP 5.1.2 shot on a DVX-100A in 24p (not advanced). I captured the footage using the Easy Set up option of DV-NTSC.
My problem is a usual one that has been posted often, but rarely clearly solved. I see horizontal line artifacts on any shot with movement in my timeline and when I export to Quicktime. Look at the kid climbing rope in the following captured still (click on the still to enlarge):
    http://homepage.mac.com/obidow/deinterlace/PhotoAlbum3.html
The artifacts disappear in two ways: a) when I watch the footage on an NTSC monitor, the artifacts disappear b) I can put an FCP de-interlace filter on the clips and the problem disappears when viewed on the computer.
However, this project is for the Web, not to be viewed on TV or DVD, and I seem to lose a lot of quality with the de-interlace filter (oddly, the de-interlace filter makes it look exactly like a DVD on an NTSC monitor).
My question is this: is there a way to eliminate the artifacts for computer viewing without using a de-interlacing filter?
Secondly, (and less importantly to me right now) why EXACTLY does this happen? I have read a ton about 24p and pulldown and interlacing and Cinema Tools, etc. but I still can't get a handle on it. Some sites say 24p does not need to be de-interlaced, some say it does, some say you need Cinema Tools, some say FCP can do it--- ARRGGGH--I just can't figure it out.
    Thanks,
    Mike
    Thanks,
    Mike
I have read a ton about Cinema TOols and pulldowns and
    Mac Pro Tower/Powerbook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    Mac Pro Tower/Powerbook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    What is Pulldown?
google reveals these Pulldown explanation pages:
    http://www.adamwilt.com/24p/#24pRecording
    http://home.aol.com/ajaynejr/pulldown.htm
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/24p
    http://www.zerocut.com/tech/pulldown.html
    http://www.denecke.com/24pinfo.htm
here's a visual representation of 24P with pulldown added to be recorded on a 29.97 tape (this is how all feature films are broadcast on NTSC)
As you can see, you get a BC frame and a CD frame that are made up of fields of differing frames. Thus the artifacts you present in your still.

  • Best conversion for the web site

    Hi Folks
I made a Video with my HD camera and made a nice movie in iMovie HD 6 in 1080i-30. what is the best conversion to view it on my web site. I have tried a few of the settings but none thrill me. all either too small or too square. What are the best settings for wide screen conversion for the web?
    Thanks
    Don

    hey everyone
just wanted to say thanks, I have been working on my 1st iMovie project and had a few questions and everyone here was great
I finished my 1st iMovie project yesterday and posted it to the web site today
    http://www.pspartyband.com/Live%20Video%20Clips.html
I just bought the Cannon HV20 camera on Monday 5/7/07 and shot this Video on Tuesday night 5/8/07. I have never owned a Video camera before and true to the advertisement the canon was just point and shoot and I got pretty decent Video. We passed the camera around to everyone in the band so that everyone could shoot a little and everyone could be in the video. next time I think i'll bring a friend to shoot so we can just play.
I had no problem at all importing the video from the HV20 into iMovie as some here have been experiencing. I thought iMovie was very easy to use and since I am used to working in Logic Pro I know to hit save every couple of edits, just in case of a crash, which it did a couple of times
anyway thanks again and let me know what you think of my video
    Don
