[CS3, CS4 JS] Start/end of stroke

Before I waste any more time on this, is it not possible to use scripting to set "Start" and "End" of stroke? (I'm trying to put arrowheads on graphic lines.)

A quick search in my own reference data for 'arrowhead' shows CS4 has an enumeration ArrowHead, which can be applied as properties to Button.leftLineEnd, Button.rightLineEnd, ChangeObjectPreference.leftLineEnd, ChangeObjectPreference.rightLineEnd, FindObjectPreference.leftLineEnd, FindObjectPreference.rightLineEnd, FormField.leftLineEnd, FormField.rightLineEnd, GraphicLine.leftLineEnd, GraphicLine.rightLineEnd, Group.leftLineEnd, Group.rightLineEnd, ObjectStyle.leftLineEnd, ObjectStyle.rightLineEnd, Oval.leftLineEnd, Oval.rightLineEnd, PageItem.leftLineEnd, PageItem.rightLineEnd, PageItemDefault.leftLineEnd, PageItemDefault.rightLineEnd, Polygon.leftLineEnd, Polygon.rightLineEnd, Rectangle.leftLineEnd, Rectangle.rightLineEnd, TextFrame.leftLineEnd and TextFrame.rightLineEnd.

Indesign cs4 have nice start end stroke shapes like arrowheads, circles, squares...circles is clear, without fill. I need fill in it.
How to make custom shapes or edit existings start/end shapes to functioning like original provided with indesign?
Maybe illustrator cs4 have this?

There's no way to edit line endings in ID. You would have to make a compound path from a line with no ending and a second path or shape for the end.

CS3, CS4 and CS5 Crash on Click.

Hey, cant find anywhere better to ask this question.
running 2.8gz 4gb ram intel imac on latest snow leopard.
have all 3 trials of indesign cs3.cs4.c5 installed.
however as soon as the splash screen has cleared, we get to the new document screen.
we can pick the document settings then the page appears white as standard.
then you click ANYWHERE within indesign and instant freeze and have to force quit.
all drivers n software are up to date and have cleared the prefrences.
any more ideas guys?

What I think is interesting here is that despite the goofiness of it all, Owen actually looked at the crash report (even though there wasn't one!) and we got some data out of it. I can't remember the last time I suggested somebody look at the crash report where it actually ended up being useful (mostly, I think, because people don't bother to do it). Now, I'm not really sure what this tells us. I think it's saying if we made it easier for most users to provide this information (better descriptions of how to get it, maybe with some screenshots, etc. And whatever the Windows equivalent is, which is I think Quite Possibly A Lot Tougher), then perhaps we'd make some progress in more of these cases.
Of course, the hard part is what to do. I mean, I didn't know what SING and TIN were, though a minute of of googling made it clear that they were about fonts. But certainly other people did.
Oh yeah, Owen: you should go through the thread and award points to the helpful answers. Those of us with non-stratospheric post counts still occasionally smile at the idea of getting useless points to acknowledge our depth of service to the community. Or something.

CS3 CS4 CS5 backwards compatible or just backwards?

Have just spent over a month talking with Adobe "Customer Service" - an offshore call centre whose entire capability seems to be to read from a script which says "Sir I understand your problem" - really? - "But all I can suggest is that you purchase CS5" - I had already! - "Or visit our online community".
Over a month - I may include the thread here - including a dozen telephone calls where I was occasionally hung up on and where I NEVER ONCE spoke with a technician who actually understood my problem.
I have client video projects stretching all the way back to Premiere CS2.
When I upgraded from CS3 to CS4 (on PC) I was told to "start all my video projects from scratch" - that was the helpful answer from the Adobe "Customer Service" team! It appears as though the way CS4 handles native media formats is entirely non-compatible with CS3 or earlier.
Two months ago I purchased a Mac and CS5 suite. Again, my CS3 projects are not compatible it seems. One month ago my PC died.
I began a dialog with Adobe "Customer Service" looking for help.
I own Production Suite or Master Suite in CS2, CS3, CS4 and CS5 - so I'm not a software pirate - and have a reasonable expectation that I should attract a certain level of support: specifically, I would like to exchange my CS3 PC software for CS3 Mac - seems like the best way to run those older projects - BUT I would gladly take any advice you can provide!!
After over a month talking with a range of "Customer Service" people ranging from well-meaning but un-trained to straight-ahead rude people, I've been told to go buy the software somewhere else!
Adobe CS3 for Mac ships new from $800 to $1500 from eBay.
Boot Camp is an option since I own CS3 for PC but then I need to buy Windows and a Parallel software solution - also around $1200.
I no longer feel like such an evangelist for IP - when this is the service you get as a Genuine Adobe Customer.
I love using Adobe products but am disgusted at the total lack of service.

Going from Windows to MAC with AVI, WMV, and converted VOB's (if done) may cause some funny things to happen.
I think I would check up what CODEC's those AVI and converted VOB's are using, and check if your MAC supports them, and also check if your MAC supports WMV.
"basically every kind of media you can import to PP" is probably different on Windows than it is on MAC.

Will Adobe CS3+CS4 work in OS above 10.6.8 ?

   I want to continue using CS3+CS4, mainly Dreamweaver CS3 and Fireworks CS4, plus some Photoshop & Acrobat Pro in CS4. All ran well on my mid-2007 Macbook Pro (MA896LL) with OS 10.6.8. But this MBP failed recently, due to heat, and for my next Mac(s) two options are a 2010 Macbook (MC516LL) that can run OS 10.6, or a 2012 Mac Mini with i5 (MD387LL) that will not run OS 10.6 but does offer other benefits. (of course, running an OS higher than 10.6 also offers benefits!)
   Will Dreamweaver-CS3 and Fireworks-CS4 run properly in all ways, with higher OS, with 10.7 or 8, 9, 10?
   Does the kind of computer make a difference for this? For example, would these programs behave differently in OS 10.9 on the 2010-Macbook or 2012-Mini? (probably not, I assume)
   These questions are important in deciding what to buy, but... now, because I don't have a Mac, I cannot do experiments (try the two programs with each OS) to see what happens. So I'm hoping you can help (thanks in advance!) by sharing your experience and knowledge.
   FWIW, the Mac programs in CS3 and CS4 are 32 bit, if that makes any difference in OS-compatibility.

Yesterday the Macbook arrived (made in 2008, so it runs 10.6.8), and two installs (CS3, CS4) were successful. For the next set of installations,* if Adobe requires a de-activation would the following plan work?
____My conclusion, after writing the paragraphs below, is "probably not" because (if Adobe doesn't check to see what computer CS is activated on) accepting this kind of de-activation would make it easy for someone to fake a de-activation by cloning the hard disk of a still-working computer, de-activating CS3/4 on that cloned disk-image, then continue using CS3/4 on the still-working computer and also (because they have fooled Adobe into thinking it's not active) an extra computer, using only one of the two activations. So this probably isn't allowed by Adobe. If necessary, probably I'll just have to contact Adobe, with the repairman to confirm the failure of my Macbook Pro with one of the CS3/4 installations.

To de-activate, could I re-start the new computer in the old 10.6.8 (with "Startup Disk" in System Preferences) using this disk image, open Dreamweaver-CS3 (then deactivate) and Fireworks-CS4 (then deactivate)? Would the CS3 and CS4 on this disk-image be recognized by Adobe as being "one of my previous installs" that therefore would not count as being active, after they're deactivated?

CS3/CS4 Upgrade

I installed CS3, I then bought a copy of CS4 upgrade and started to install it.
Part way through, when it asked for CS3 serial number the only product option was CS3 Extended. I then realised that the upgrade copy I had bought was CS4 Extended upgrade.
I then aborted the upgrade.
The splash screen on CS3 about Photoshop now shows it as CS3 Extended even though it is just the normal version.
I bought a normal version of CS4 upgrade but it will not recognise the serial, it wants a valid CS3 Extended serial.
I uninstalled CS3 & CS4 Trial and then re-installed CS3, still the same problem with the solash screen showing it as CS3 Extended.
If I uninstalled CS3 again and deleted all registry entries to Photoshop would this solve my problem?
I have also tried the Adobe cleaner tool but this still left registry entries for Photoshop

Not at all. You need to delete the PCD database and any otehr asociated licensing and product identification files or simply manually deactivate everything, choosing to eradicate any stored serial numbers. Still, it wouldn't do anything for you, if you still had the wrong serials. Therefore do the only sensible thing - call phone support to sort this out. Nobody here can do that for you.

Hallo, hier moechte ich mal gerade mal "einmischen", auch wenn ich mit Photoshop CS2 (Mac) arbeite. Habe auch dieses Problem. Sobald die Twain Plugins geladen werden bricht der Startvorgang bei mir ab. Hatte mal eine Scannersoftware installiert und wieder deinstalliert. Koennte es vielleicht damit zu tun haben. Es erscheint auch immer ein Fehlerbericht mit dem ich leider nicht anfangen kann.

I crashes every time i open it. it suddenly started happening. i could get just past the opening pane at first allowing me to choose what kind of document to open print rgb etc, the it stopped doing that. i get the opening pane the it crashes, it aslo happens in past copies cs2 cs3 cs4 non of my illustrator copies will open

It could be an issue with your font caches. Go get fontnuke and try deleting all your system and application font caches.
It doesn't sound like a preference issue if it's affecting all the other versions. Do you have the suite installed? Is Photoshop working properly?

CS3/CS4 Performance; recommendations for LAN/Server Env ?

Id like to hear from the admins (or users for that matter) dealing with a significant amount of Adobe CS3/CS4 users, in a LAN/Server environment.
What are the specs of the machines (PC's) that run it well ?
Are you using font managers ?
Are you the users editing files located on the server ?
Im running all machines well above Adobe spec, Server 03 domain, Gbit Lan, Citrix ASA router.
The guys here are of course whining about Macs, but they also state that font manager software would help resource usage on the workstations. When the apps launch in the AM, performance is great, as the day wears on, machine performance lags, and PS or Illustrator will eat itself. Event viewer has no other details except for App Hang. Often times, while trying to save the work back out to the server; but other times just during general use.
Just wondering of there is something I could be doing to better to help these guys.
Anyone have thoughts on this ?

How about some details on those machines? CS3 and CS4 are very resource hungry and I've found the best environment is Vista 64 with at 8 gigs of RAM (or more) a fast processor and fast harddrives.
FWIW, it's not all that unusual to need to restart some of these applications after a lot of use.
I know it's a pain but it certainly cures a world of ills when things start to slow down.
BTW, that holds true on the Mac side as well.

Contribute CS3/CS4 books

Hi all,
I am looking for Contribute CS3/CS4 books to recommend to some of my end users. Doing a search on Amazon doesn't really provide much (specifically most Contribute titles are for Contribute 3 from 2003!). Are there any books out there for use????

This probably isn't the answer you're looking for, but ...
FWIW, my end users initially requested books or other resources because they were concerned about how long it would take for them to learn Contribute. But after giving them a short training where I described the similarities between Contribute and MS Word and showed them the Contribute help screens, the users didn't need anything else. They occasionally call me with a question, but that's to be expected.

Start, end and duration box in timeline

I use CS4 and wonder why each time I pass the cursor over the CTI,a yellow dialog box indicating start, end and duration of the project, stays visible in the timeline? The more I pass the CTI with the cursor, the more boxes appear....and stay. The boxes are in random order but contain only info for the start, end and duration of the project. I am sure there is a simple answer to this annoying issue. Thanks.

The Problem persists. I downloaded the latest update from nVIDIA but that did not seem to work. See picture of some of the boxes that stay when I pass the cursor over the CTI. I can clear them by deleting tracks, but they reappear when I work with the CTI. They apprear not only in the blank area. but on the timline as well

Override shift-scrollwheel behavior in CS3/CS4?

Does anyone know offhand if it is possible to override the shift-scrollwheel behavior via plugin creation or scripting in CS3/CS4?
The CS3/CS4 "scroll real fast" behavior breaks Macintosh user interface conventions hugely (in the rest of the operating system shift-scrollwheel is attached to scroll horizontally).

Would also like to know this. Scrolling is already too fast with a magic mouse, if I happen to be holding shift when I touch the mouse I will find myself suddenly at one end of the document wondering what went wrong.

Primitive APAB editor in start/end routines in transformations

When editing or viewing ABAP code in BI transformations, for example in a start routine, the editor that opens is very primitive compared to the normal SE38 editor. Some of the limitations include:
The editor window doesn't cover the whole screen with seemingly no way to increase its size.
The syntax check doesn't show on which line syntax errors are located.
There is no option to perform a extended program check.
There is no way to insert break-points (other than with the ABAP keyword of course)
These limitations are present regardless of whether i choose the new front-end editor, the old front-end editor or the back-end editor. We're running SAP Netweaver 2004s.
It is of course possible to create a program in SE38 and copy-paste your start routine code to see the code using the "real" editor, but this is very tiresome and time consuming. Is there a way to make this editor look and behave like the normal editor? I have looked through the setting options an searched SDN without finding a way.

This is just the settings you need to change to open the start,end, and characteristics routine using the old editor you are comfortable with. No need to go to se38 and check copy the program.
Go to se38->Utilities->settings->abap editor->editor tab->select the old abap editor.
To specifically put break point in transformations (start routine..end routine..)..goto transformation (RSA1) and then display the transformation.
Then goto extra (menu)->generated program. search for start_routine (method now) and put break point in the desired place.
Then from the DTP enable all 4 break points..in tranformation (this will come when u cange it to debug mode simulation). And u can debug the transformation.
The new editor is a good handy one. But take some time to get acquented to it. After you may start liking it :).

Difference between "Binding Period" and "Validity Start/End" in Bid

SRM Experts,
1. We see 2 different things, "Binding Period" and "Validity Start/End" while preparing the bid. What is the differece between these?
2. These fileds are non-editable for the bidder, while preparing the bid response. How bidder can give validity period for his quote (at header level)?
3. We see that, the bidder can specify validity start/end date at condition level. Is it not possible to specifiy a validity of the quote at header level?

I tried accepting the RFx response in all above 3 cases system did not give any error.

Find start/end of word contained in text.

I feel really silly asking this, but my brain doesn't seem to want to work at the moment and I can't find my old semester 1 examples.
While I can easily solve this in C++ trying to do it in Java is a bit of a mystery. size_t = found, str.find() string::npos -> etc
Basically I'm trying to implement a default highlighter. The words I need to search for AFAIK only appear once each in the Document or not at all.
SQL queries, SELECT, FROM, WHERE, etc.

Which searches for vowels within a document and highlights. So i figured it would be an easy switch to get it to do what I wanted, but I've been plugging away at it for a few hours now and can't solve it.
Would be a lot easier if String.contains(CharSequence cs) gave something back more useful than a boolean... integer would be nice :(
