(CS3-JS) Tables - HeaderRows

Hello,
First, sorry for my english.
I want to apply a diferent paragraph style to the first row (of the body of the table. The first row has hightest before space). I have one header row, than break once per page, and I don't know how can I determine when I need to apply.

Hi Maribel,
You can refer to the text frame that contains a cell like this:
theFrame = theCell.paragraphs[0].parentTextFrames[0];
Now you loop through the cells of a column and check if the current text frame is the same as the previous one.
If the text frame is different than you have arrived on a new page and the current cell is in the first row of the page.

DW CS3 fireworks table edit

DW CS3 fireworks table edit opens Fw, but fw doesn't show the
.png file correctly.(I can't see the changes on the content areas
that I made in DW)
If I attach a behaviour (eg. rollover effect) to the file, it
works properly in fw. After pressing the "Done" button in fw, it
closes fw, goes back to DW, but doesn't send the changes to DW.
Can someone please help me?

Yep, I had the exact same problem... even the icon didn't
show correctly in
the PI.
I backed up my registry and did a Find for 'Fireworks' and
deleted all
references to the old Fireworks versions, even FW8 (I had
uninstalled it).
Now I have my icon back and FWs CS3 now works with DW CS3
I did say, make a backup of the registry before proceeding
btw :-)

DW CS3 Unexpected table row growth.

upgraded to CS3 from DW8, DWMX and found the following
problem with my pages.
I should say with the way they display in DW CS3.
The problem is that the row expands in design view to
accommodate the variable names, unlike previous prevouse versions
that display the table at its true size.
In this example:

CS3: XML tables cause crashes?

Hi everyone,
We've been using XML with InDesign CS3 for a while now, generally with success. However, we have added InDesign XML tables to our work and have encountered an odd problem. We can import XML containing tables and they appear with the correct layout, and text inside the tables is correctly formatted by Map Tags to Styles (on paragraph-level tags inside the table cells, not the Table and Cell tags themselves). However, when we try to cut a selection that includes an XML table, InDesign frequently crashes.
If we de-tag the tables, the problem goes away, but this is not really an option for us as we want to be able to Export XML once layout is complete.
Has anyone else ever encountered this crash? What am I doing wrong?

I created a page from fireworks CS3 opened it up in
dreamweaver CS3.
When I click on the Edit button in fireworks table
properties, it says "unable to launch c:\program
files\macromedia\fireworks mx 2004\fireworks.exe"
I have uninstalled fireworks mx 2004, so I don't understand
why dreamweaver is still looking for it!!?
( I have pointed fireworks.exe in regedit to 'open' and 'edit
with' fireworks cs3 as PNGs didn't open from windows explorer)

CS3 Conversion Table Width Issue

I recently converted to CS3 from MX. The issue is table
(widths) created in MX, look completely different in CS3 (using
layout/code view). Although in a browser appear (correctly) as
should be. What do I need to do to make the table widths appear as
they should in layout view?

Please publish (upload) the page with all supporting files
and post a link
so we can see everything in context. Incomplete bits of code
are no help, to
me at least.

Dreamweaver CS3 - layout tables and cells

I just installed the new Studio CS3 on my Mac , and I have
been trying to layout a new html page in Dreamweaver. I can draw
tables, but not cells! I check the Dreamveaver CS3 help "About
Layout Mode" thinking that this may be one of the functions that
have changed in the new version, but apparently it has not. Also, I
can not resize the div tags by draging the edges.
Can anyone help me with some advise?

Layout Mode has been removed from the Insert bar because it
produces

[JS CS3] Merging table columns

Hi all,
What's the fastest way to merge columns in a table?
I'm using the following loop to merge the 4th and 5th columns in my table:
for( var f = myTable.rows.length-1; f >= 0; f-- ){
myTable.columns[3].cells[f].merge (myTable.columns[4].cells[f])
It works, but I'm working on a large table (120 pages worth) and have many instance where I need to merge columns. Using the loop above, the script takes hours to run. Is there a faster way to merge columns while keeping the rows intact?

I've just done some time testing with CS4 and found the following:
table = app.documents[0].stories[0].tables[0];

takes just about the same time to run as:

The latter, using itemByRange was about a third faster than using everyItem(). 1800 milliseconds to 2700 on a 4 x 10 table.

[CS3/CS4 JS] How can you get the associatedXMLElement of a merged cell in a table?

Hi!
Inserting a table, and autotagging it, I get a table with a number of cell elements in the XML Structure.
Selecting an item in the table, I can find the associated XML by the following line of code:
app.selection[0].associatedXMLElement
My problems begin when cells are merged. Then the associatedXMLElement for the cell returns null.
How can I find the associatedXMLElement for a merged cell?
Using the getElements makes no difference.
app.selection[0].getElements()[0].associatedXMLElement
(returns null)
In the XML structure I can see that the merged cell is still associated to an XML Element, which becomes underlined and also referrs back to the cell, selecting it when double clicking the XML Element link in the structure.
Is there no way to get to the xml element of a merged cell?
I have tested in CS3 and CS4 as well, and they act in the same way.

Adding some more info:
I made a test, by selecting the XMLElement in the structure, and from that object finding the cell, and finding back to the assiciatedXMLElement:
app.selection[0].getElements()[0].cells[0].associatedXMLElement
Result: [object XMLElement]
So that kind of "chain" works.
But with the merged cell as only reference, I can't find its associatedXMLElement. Any ideas would be appreciated.

In my opinion, locate a cell according to his content is not so effortable. What happens if contents of more than two cells are equals?
I take xml elements of associated xml element of table and put them into an array.
This array contains associated xml elements of every cell ordered by cell positions into table.
Now, locate associated xml element of a cell based on its array position (index) is more reliable:
var myCell_cell = app.selection[0];
var myElement = myCell.associateXMLElement
if (!myElement || !myElement.isValid) {
     var table = myCell.parent;
     var xml_tab = table.associatedXMLElement;
     var xml_cells_arr = xml_tab.xmlElements.everyItem().getElements();

     myElement = xml_cells_arr[idx];

Table Format VBS CS3

I have a pre existing script that we used in CS and CS2 to reformat a pre-existing table.
I won't include all the VBScript but what it basically does is this -
-Take an existing frame that already has a table.
-Then the borders are changed and the text is aligned.
-Then a dialog box appears and you can then select colors for different cells, etc.
-After doing that the colors are filled into the different cells.
The script has worked in both CS and CS2 perfectly (other than making few minor changes like setting the Application to CS, CS2).
After trying it in CS3 instead of reformatting the table it strips the borders completely and then adds a table above the existing table/text.
My question is if anyone knows of any major changes in CS3 for Table Formatting?

I have walked through the VBScript and it appears that the line that doesn't seem to work the same is this -
Set myTable = myStory.Tables.Add
This doesn't reformat the text into a table but instead adds a table above the text.
Any ideas would be great!

Table Header not getting repeated in subsequent pages

Hi,
I have a table and i want to table header to be repeated in subsequent pages but only till 2nd page the table header is repeated from the 3rd page onwards the table header is not repeated.
I have selected the Header Row in hierarchy and in Pagination tab for the header row i have checked the the check box Insert Header Row in Subsequent Pages.
After selecting the checkbox also table header is repeated only in 2 pages and not repeated after the second page.
My table hierarchy in form is :
TableSubform
---Table
HeaderRow
Row1
I am using Designer 8.0 and Acrobat Reader 8.1.2
Can you please help me in solving this issue.

I have selected the the check box Insert Header Row in Subsequent Pages then also the header is not getting flowed in subsequent pages only till 2nd page its getting flowed.
I have used table wizard to create table and i have made the table subform as flowed then also table header is not repeating in subsequent pages.
MainForm (Flowed)
TableSubform1(Flowed)
Table1
HeaderRow
Row1
TableSubform2(Flowed)
Table2
HeaderRow
Row1
I selected TableSubform1 and in Pagination tab OverFlow Leader dropdown i selected HeaderRow, the same i did for TableSubform2 also but the table header is not getting repeated in subsequent pages.

Problem with table in Adobe Form in Web Dynpro JAVA??

I have an issue with the table displaying all the node values in the Adove Form. Right now it displays only the first element of the Node even if there are multiple entries.
Not sure what is going wrong here.

I referred to the website, but still having issues with generating tables in Adobe Form. I can get all the table rows in the adove form, but the pdf doee not add new pages to display all the table rows. It just createa one page with the table inside it, display few of the rows and truncates rest of the table data.
Here is the heirarchy of the page with the properties set
Master Pages ---
        ||--> Page 1
                 ||--> content area
                 ||--> subfrom (properties:: Content - Flowed / Flow direction - top to bottom...pagination tab is greayed out completly)
                            ||--> Table
                                      ||--> HeaderRows (Object: Row - Type: Header Row)
                                      ||--> Row1 (Object Tab/Binding: Repeat Row for each data item - checked)
Can't make it wor, not sure what's wrong here
I am using NDS 7.0 SP18 and Adobe LiveCycle 8.0. Does that could be a problem.

Dynamic Table not working.

I have an issue with Dynamic Table.
I am working on Offline Interactive Form.
From transaction SFP I designed my form with dynamic row functionality.
In preview screen I am able to add or remove rows but when I generate the pdf file using the function fm_name the pdf is getting generated and I am able to save the pdf to my local drive.

When I open the file from the local drive and try to add a new row, it is not adding (I think the new row is overwriting the older row).
The hirearchy is as follows:
-Data
--SUBFORMS                             - Position Content
---Table1                              - Flow Content / Table
-HeaderRow                          - Flow Content / Header
   (will have all table heading)
-Row1                               - Flow Content / Table row
   (holds text box for table row)
Do I miss any thing. Also I read in one of the posting that the dynamic pdf property needs to be enabled. I have selected the Dynamic form option from Edif->form property->default. Is that enough or do I need to add some code for that while generating the pdf.

For help press F1 after opening designer.

Insert Table is grayed out

In my DW CS3 insert tables is grayed out also in the Common
tab area it's grayed out?

Now - whatever you do, DO NOT GO BACK to layout mode. It's
the source of a
high percentage of all the posts here (in one way or
another).
In my opinion, there are three serious problems with Layout
Mode -
1. Perhaps most importantly, it sits between you and *real*
HTML tables,
and fools you into believing that concepts like "layout cell"
and
"autostretch" really mean something. They do not. As long as
you use
Layout Mode, you'll never learn one of the most important
things for new web
developers - how to build solid and reliable tables.
2. Actually, #1 wouldn't be *so* bad, except that the code
that is written
by Layout Mode is really poor code. For example, a layout
table contains
MANY empty rows of cells. This can contribute to a table's
instability.
In addition, if your initial positioning of the table's cells
is a bit
complex,
Layout Mode will throw in col- and rowspans aplenty as it
merges and splits
cells willy-nillly to achieve the pixel-perfect layout you
have specified.
Again,
this is an extremely poor method for building stable tables,
because it
allows
changes in one tiny cell's shape (i.e, dimensions) to ripple
through the
rest
of the table, usually with unexpected and sometimes
disastrous consequences.
This is one of the primary reasons for the final result's
fragility - read

3. The UI for Layout Mode is beyond confusing - many options
that you might
want to use are inaccessible, e.g., inserting another table,
or layer onto
the page.
I can understand the new user's desire to use this tool to
make their life
easier,
but the cost is just too heavy in my opinion.
To make good tables, keep it simple. Put a table on the page,
and begin to
load your content. If you would want a different table
layout, instead of
merging or splitting cells, consider stacking tables or
nesting simple
tables instead, respectively.
And above all, do not try to build the whole page with a
single table!
Luckily, Adobe understands the problems created for the
unsuspecting user
who falls into this trap, and has elected to remove this
feature altogether
from the next version of DW. The time is right for you to
begin working
with tables properly!
