CS5(js) script to read a spreadsheet and create a document
I need to write a script to read a csv file and create pages on an InDesign file.(a data merge) However after it creates the pages I need it to change the objects on the page based on the information on that line of the spreadsheet. After all the changes are made each page needs to be exported as a PDF and named a specific name from the spreadsheet. I am not even sure this can be done much less where to start.... any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks TJ
It can be done.
I have done some similar stuff earlier, and have some functions that might be useful. I did not script the data merge itself, but that should be possible as well.
I made this function for exporting separate PDFs after a data merge. It had some logic to give files clever file names based on the contents of a certain text frame. So that can be implemented.
function eksportMerged(numberOfPages){ // exports the document into several pdfs with [numberOfPages] pages each.
var myDoc = app.activeDocument;
var allPages = myDoc.pages.length;
var numberOfPDFs = Math.floor(allPages/numberOfPages);
var mappe = new Folder;
mappe = Folder.selectDialog("Export "+myDoc.name+" to which folder?");
var filestart = "File_number_";
var filename = "";
var myFile;
var eksportrange = "";
for (var n = 0; n< numberOfPDFs; n++){
filename = filestart+("00"+(n+1)).slice (-3)+".pdf";
myFile = new File(mappe.fullName+"/"+filename);
eksportrange = (n*numberOfPages)+1+"-"+((n*numberOfPages)+numberOfPages);
eksportPDF(myDoc,eksportrange, myFile);
function eksportPDF(dok,page,path){
var myPDFpref = app.pdfExportPresets.itemByName("[High Quality Print]");
app.pdfExportPreferences.pageRange=page;
app.pdfExportPreferences.viewPDF=false;
try{
dok.exportFile(ExportFormat.pdfType, path, false, myPDFpref,"",true);
} catch(e){
throw(e);
This function will read a CSV and returns an an Array (rows) of Arrays (columns) of Strings (cells). This works with CSVs exported from Google Docs. They have commas as cell separators and newline characters as row separators. Some CSVs use semicolons instead of commas.
function parseCSV(filePath){ // reads a CSV, returns an array of contents.
var csvfil;
var result;
var fileContent;
csvfil=new File(filePath);
csvfil.open();
fileContent = csvfil.read();
csvfil.close();
eval("result=[['"+fileContent.replace(/,/g, "','").replace (/\n/g, "'],['")+"']];");
return result;

Hi, I would like to create a database from my numbers spreadsheet and create reports (like SQL). Is there a way?
Numbers is a lightweight spreadsheet. If you know sql you will know that it can handle many queries and is a real databases that can handle many thousands of records. Number is not the correct tool. You can make something that does something like a query but it is not truly a query.
Can you share anything about the specific application and how much information there is in each record? How many records (rows)? -
Read,write and create word document with list data
Hi,
My requirement is that I have a custom list called List1 and which has a 4 (suppose XName, location, phone, email)columns and also have a Template document(.dot). If I click on save button , new document has to create from the Template document(.dot) and
should modify the content depends on list columns.
For that I need to read the document , find out the text where XName , location,,phone, email and replace with the list item data(user entered data).
Can anybody please refer links for read,write and create word document?
Thanks in advance.Yes, you can using Office Open XML. I found it to be a lot more cumbersome and in the end not a money saving approach:

Hi there, I currently subscribe to Adobe Pro Subscription (yearly) and I also subscribe to Adobe PDF pack (monthly). I only require Adobe to read and create PDF documents such as converting word/excel document or a web based document. Can someone tell me if I'm doubling up as I'm not sure of the differences between the products and would like to save a few dollars.
Acrobat Pro can do a lot more than the PDF Pack online service.
Try if you can do everything you need with PDF Pack; otherwise keep Acrobat Pro. -

Using a CWM format XML as datastore; COM SDK to read the file and create Universe
Hello everyone
We are in the process of migrating from a metadata store to BusinessObjects Universe and the plan is to use Java/COM SDK to accomplish that. We have run into limitations with both the SDKs. Java SDK doesn't provide that facility and using COM SDK we are trying to read from a XML file (metadata in CWM format) and create the universe but so far haven't been successful. If the (Universe)Designer can read a CWM format xml file (say created from BODS) we are wondering why can't a customer made COM program do the same.
Has anyone attempted this and been successful. Please acknowledge.
ThanksI have written C#.NET code to build universes on the fly using the Designer SDK with no problems. However, I wasn't using CWM formatted data to do this.
I have two suggestions for you:
1. Since not all of the functionality in the Designer tool seems to be available through the SDK, can you parse the CWM xml file in your code and build the universe based on the data instead of trying have Designer build it?
2. Since you're using Java, you may get better answers by posting this question in the Java SDK Application Development space here: http://scn.sap.com/community/bi-platform/java-sdk

I just created a document in Pages. Now when I try to open my document in Pages I am given a message that I need a newer version of Pages to open it. When I go to the Appstore it shows that I have already downloaded the latest version.
You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Note: Apple has removed over 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:
http://www.freeforum101.com/iworktipsntrick/viewforum.php?f=22&sid=3527487677f0c 6fa05b6297cd00f8eb9&mforum=iworktipsntrick
Archive/trash Pages 5, after exporting all Pages 5 files to Pages '09 or Word .docx, and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

Need script to read a list and compare it to the contents of a folder...
I need a script that will read all of the file names within a tab delimited list and then compare them to the files within a directory (named IMAGES) and delete the files of this IMAGES folder that are not included in the list.
Thanks in advance.It won't work because of what you're comparing.
Consider if files_list does not contain (image_file as string) then.
Your script defines files_list as the contents of the specified file like:
"file1.jpg
file2.jpg
file3.png"
and image_file is a list of files which, when coerced to a string looks like:
"Cabezon:Users:cochino:Desktop:images:file1.jpgCabezon:Users:cochino:Desktop:ima ges:file2.jpgCabezon:Users:cochino:Desktop:images:file3.png".
There is no way files_list is going to be in image_file.
Instead you're going to have to iterate through one or other of the lists and find matches.
Since the list of files you want to keep is around 1,000 items long, and there are 6,000 files in the directory it would be quicker to iterate through the list of files to keep (a loop of 1000 iterations) than it would be to loop through the files to see which ones to delete (a loop of 6000 iterations).
Therefore your best bet is something like this (untested):
tell application "Finder"
--define the source directory
set sourceDir to folder "Cabezon:Users:cochino:Desktop:images:"
-- create a temp dir for the files to keep
set filesToKeepFolder to (make new folder at (path to temporary items) with properties {name:"TempImageDir"})
-- get the list of files to keep
set files_list to paragraphs of (read file "Cabezon:Users:cochino:Desktop:Workbook2.txt")
-- iterate through them
repeat with eachFile in files_list
try
-- move the file to the temp folder
move file (eachFile as text) of sourceDir to filesToKeepFolder
end try
end repeat
-- by the time you get here all the matched files
-- have been moved to the temp dir
-- so now you can throw away the rest of the files
delete every file of sourceDir
-- and copy the files you want back in
move every file of filesToKeepDir to sourceDir
-- and clean up
delete filesToKeepDir
end tell
The comments should give you some idea as to what it's doing, but in short it walks through the list of files looking for matching files in the specified directory. If it finds a match it moves that file to a temporary directory. At the end of the 1,000 iterations, what's left in the directory are the files that did not match the file read in at the beginning, so these files can be deleted.
Finally, to clean up, the files you want are copied back into the images directory and the temporary directory is deleted. -

How to read outlook mailbox and create corresponding e-mail activities in CRM
On premises CRM 2013 SP1:
current configuration for incoming and outgoing:
all of the users in our organization use Microsoft Dynamics CRM for Outlook as the incoming
and The E-mail Router is used to send outgoing e-mail that users create in Microsoft Dynamics CRM.
my requirement:
We have a mailbox that sits on outlook 2013.
Requirement is to read all email messages reaching this mailbox and then create corresponding e-mail activities in CRM.
what are the possible solutions for this?Create a Queue in CRM with the same email address as that Exchange mailbox.
Set that Queue's incoming mail option to "Email router".
Go to the Email Router, confirm that your incoming settings work, then load the CRM settings. You should see that Queue as an incoming option.
Validate and publish the Email Router settings with the updated Queue.
That will let CRM receive mail on that Exchange mailbox. And if that mailbox is for a CRM user and not a generic mailbox, change the CRM settings on their User account instead of a Queue.

My STored Procedure:
ftypFileHandle := UTL_FILE.fopen ('XML_DIR_FILE', vFileName, 'w', 32000);
lMarker := 'Selecting XML row';
println(lMarker, 2);
SELECT XML_FILE
INTO clobBuffer
FROM XML_TABLE
WHERE x=1;
lMarker := 'Get length of the clob';
iClobLength := nvl(DBMS_LOB.getlength(clobBuffer), 0);
WHILE (l_offset <= iClobLength) LOOP
DBMS_LOB.READ (
lob_loc=> clobBuffer,
amount=> l_amt,
offset=> l_offset,
buffer=> vOutputBuffer
UTL_FILE.put (ftypFileHandle, vOutputBuffer);
UTL_FILE.fflush (ftypFileHandle);
UTL_FILE.new_line (ftypFileHandle);
l_offset := l_offset + l_amt;
END LOOP;
lMarker := 'Close file';
println(lMarker, 2);
UTL_FILE.fclose (ftypFileHandle);
ThanksHello myself,
nobody has answered my question, so now I answer myself!!
The wrong part is to read the file with "open dataset" and to create the inputstream with
p_istream = p_streamfactory->create_istream_itable(
table = g_xml_table
size = g_xml_size ).
Better ist to create the inputstream with
p_istream = p_streamfactory->create_istream_uri(
.......................PUBLIC_ID = ''
.......................SYSTEM_ID = '
applserver\I$\TEMP\Datei.XML' ).
In this way no space is needed for the file.
Best regards,
Thomas
