CSS 'Persistent' Clarification

Two questions:
1. When a client establishes a persistent HTTP connection that matches a CSS content rule, will the CSS map all requests over that connection to the same service within the content rule?
2. When a EQL is applied to a Layer 5 content rule, does just the first request get evaluated against the EQL? If so, do all additional requests over the same connection *not* match the content rule?

REgarding your current questions,
1/ he default is to be persistent and send all requests to the same server - you can do a 'no persistent' to loadbalance every request.
2/ every request should be evaluated.

Persistance and sticky connections in css

what is the use of persistance command in CSS content rule.If using Layer 3 stcky configuration it is necesary to give persistance command in content rule?

Hi Avinash,
This is an hot topic in content switching If using IP src sticky, as it seems you are doing, it wouldn't make much difference tweaking persistent parameter.
However, just for reference, it may occur that CSS may need to switch servers within the same rule due to two particular reasons:
1) sticky cookies/cookieurl/url
2) sorry servers
So, by default the CSS, once matched the content rule, will take only one LB decision per TCP connection, based on the first HTTP request.
With HTTP 1.1 a connection may be used for several requests and responses, and potentially a new LB decision might be needed on each request, if this is the case the CSS needs to be explicitly configured with:
#no persistent
Now regarding flow-timeout-multiplier and sticky-inact-timeout, the former refers to the connection idle timeout parameter, it regulates the time a flow will remain in the connection table while idle. In other words, it is the time period that must elapse for an idle flow before the CSS cleans up the flow.
Sticky-inact-timeout defines the inactivity timeout period on a sticky connection before the CSS removes the sticky entry from the sticky table.

Clarification - Modifying CSS instead of Theme Editor

Hi,
I'm just after some clarification. The client I am at has a proper web design team. Therefore they would rather edit the css files than use the theme editor. I assume I just zip up the relevant directories under usr/sap...../theme/mytheme which contain the css files, edit them and then put them back in the relevant directory?
Is this the case or do you have to do something else?

Hi Paul,
this is as it should work - but keep in mind that you nevertheless should create your own theme and then download the css files, edit them and copy them to the portal server again!
SAP's standard themes are overwritten with every patch / support package you will implement, so your changes will be lost.

CSS Clarification

Here is a simple question that has always confused me. If you
define some css for a link (for example to define its hover) and
the link is in a table, does it make a difference if the class is
in the <td> or <a> tag? I tend to put it in the
<a> tag, but I noticed a lot of people place it in the
<td> tag.

Using persistant remap on CSS 11506

Is there a range of source ports the CSS will use when remapping a tcp connection to a different backend server. It seems most of the time the source ports are in the 50000's. But I have seen them as low as 3000.

Missing Images and CSS when going to portal/server.pt can't login

I installed WebCenterInteraction_10.3.0.0.0 on Windows and followed all the steps mentioned in the install doc. Deployed the portal.ear and here is what I see on the command line after deployment:

I am not expert in these, but please check out the following things and see whether it would solve your issue. (All these changes can be easily rolled back in case I'm wrong :). So make note of what you do)
As per your httpd.conf, you have chosen an automatic configuration of Apache by OWCI installer itself. What it does is create an imageserver.conf file in a separate directory and these settings will be included in your httpd.conf as you can see in the first line: Include "C:/bea/alui/plumtreeconf/".
If you check the imageserver.conf in that location, you would find a line like: Alias /imageserver/ "C:/bea/alui/ptimages/imageserver/". This aliases the original path "C:/bea/alui/ptimages/imageserver/" to /imageserver"
To confirm whether this is done right, check the following:
1. Acces 'http://<server ip / server name / localhost >/' from your browser
This should display the Apache home page (as per your httpd.conf, it uses the default port 80; so no port number required)
2. Access 'http://<server ip>/imageserver/' from your browser
This should display the directory structure (if its not disabled) inside your 'C:/bea/alui/ptimages/imageserver/' folder. Also confirm that all the subfolders are accessible.
3. If all the above is right, it means that your imageserver settings are right. Please check your portalconfig.xml for the correct settings: For example, <setting name="HTTPPort"> should be 7001 in your case. If its something else, change it and restart Weblogic for the settings to take effect.

I'm trying to get a blog module going, I've even deleted the html insert bog with the tag in and re-published which then I don't get the error but as a result no blog either. But then I add the tag in again and publish the error comes back. I've used the dev console and it says that my musicians sample.css is out of date but why is it only out of date when I add in html to my muse site?
HELP!!!! I've searched other threads and to no avail I'm publishing so no direct ftp going on. the only thing I changed in business catalyst was the module stylesheet in order to style the blog. I've tried uploading and replacing all files nothing seems to work. the site is here:

It's only this page as it has the blog on. Also I've noticed when I've re-published occasionally it will show the mobile version on my desktop and not the desktop version??? no idea why that's happening so I've had to turn that off. any explanation on why that is happening would also be much appreciated.

I haven't received an answer as of yet, I'll post t on here when I do. I de-activated the mobile site because it's my clients site so he needs it to be operational during the day. I hope someone gives me an answer soon.

Problem with CSS in page I have written [SOLVED]

There is a php page I have created at work which works fine with Firefox 3.6.
In one specific page Firefox 4 does not show correctly a table with CSS.
I tried to remove the css and just have the table with no styling but the problem persists.

CSS Acts in different ways according to the logged in user.

Hi All,
I have used CSS within my Master Page i.e. Oslo. I have changed the SharePoint 2013s' default Start.aspx file as the new Sites' home page. I also used this CSS code snippet for creating a web menu because SharePoint's default navigation is rather odd.
However the menu within the master page was a success and I created several pages using the master page and each new page contains the CSS custom made web menu without any error.
But when I logged using a different Farm Admin Account the CSS menu changes to a somewhat else. But when I logged in using the built in Administrator account the menu is displayed as it should be. But when I logged in as a different Farm Admin the menu is
not showing as it should be. I have tried inserting the CSS directly to the Master Page and from the Style Library. Both ways are Ok with the built-in Administrator. But when I logged in using another Farm admin the use of Style Library was a useless thing
and the direct code input method is was the only success one. The style library has all the permission for all users.

I haven't seen this issue before. What I would do is, log in as each user then view the source of the page in the browser (right click the page and click "View Page Source" from the context menu, or use developer tools/firebug in the browser). Compare
the HTML generated for the menu for each user and see if any other CSS classes get applied. My gut is that another class is being applied for the other users, or the HTML is different in some way.

Can CSS route based on cookie info in HTTP request

I am new to CSS and am interested as it might be able to provide a solution to a problem I have seen.
We currently have 3 Windows Servers running an ASP-based web application with a clustered SQL Server backend. The front end uses windows load balancing to distribute the load. All 3 servers are configured the same and there is only one application.
The problem lies with the way an the application maintains session state. I am told it uses a non-persistant cookie on the client which corresponds to a session object on the server. This is opposed to maintaining state in central location such as the database. Obviously this means the client needs to be stuck to a particular server for that session. This is currently achieved by setting the Windows NLB to single affinity which places traffic from a particular IP address to the same server. This does work but the clients source IP is changed by a downstream firewall to a NAT overload address meaning all clients appear with the same IP address (different port) and hence always end up on just one server.
The obvious next step in my mind would be to change the way NAT is done but this is not possible. The next obvious idea would be to change the application so that it maintains state in the database so the affinity of the Windows NLB could be disabled meaning requests would be dealt with using the source IP and port and hence distributed evenly. I am told this cannot be done either :) Joy!
So I have begain to look at other possible solutions. Apologies for my very limited knowledge on the CSS as I am trying to get my head around how it can be configured. I am thinking that it may be able to help me if I used it instead of Windows NLB. I am interested in the way you can use Layer 5 stickiness. Would it be able to examine the cookie in the HTTP request and route the traffic to the correct server?
I am aware that this will not alleviate the failover issue. If one of the servers were to fall over then the client would have to login again, however I am under the impression that this is acceptable behaviour. The main driver here is to provide load balancing to improve application performance by using all resources opposed to just one.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like we are on the right path. Unfortunately I am unable to get much information from the developers. Long story. I did logon to the system whilst doing a network trace. The following is what I found in the HTTP header:

I've been building a site in Muse successfully until today when I get this error message in the browser, publishing to business catalyst as a test bed:

Clearing the cache has no effect and I have checked the assets and there are no error symbols. This happened after trying a google translate code in the <head> and a HTML snippet on the master template, I've since removed it but that the last action I took that I can think may have had an effect.
Viewing the source of the page in Safari hash;t helped other than it shows ALOT of html (including some elements i can;t relate to in my site design) and states there are three errors:

I started this site in Muse CC and then recently upgraded to Muse CC 2014, and I had install issues so deleted the original program (this then forced the download of the new version which was not automatically downloading even though CC notified me that an update was required.

Same problem here but it has nothing to do with a cellular connection.
Created the site http://www.blackdot.com in Muse 7.4.3 with no issues. Just updated the .muse file today to Muse CC 2014 and reloaded to our web server. Now I am getting the error "Some files on the server may be missing or incorrect." when viewing the site from the latest version of all browsers (Safari, Firefox, Chrome) on a Mac and all browsers on a PC (Safari, Firefox, Chrome, Explorer), also mobile Safari on an iPad.
My connection is wired broadband, not a mobile or wireless connection. I am not using the Muse "Upload to FTP host…" option and will not be using it. I am simply exporting as HTML and copying the files to my server. I have deleted all files from the web server and recopied the updated site with the same error result. This is the exact same procedure I used to load the initial site with the prior version of Muse.
It does not seem like there is an existing solution to this problem although many others are experiencing it. It looks like I will need to manually edit each page to remove the error message coding from the html files. Any tips on how to strip out the alert message from the html?
UPDATE
For anyone else experiencing this issue, I was able to edit the .html files for my site to remove the code responsible for this alert message. If you wish to edit your .html files you must make the same edit to every .html file in your site export including the top level "index.html" and all .html files inside the "tablet" and "phone" folders if you have them.
The coding to remove is at the bottom of each .html file:
(Muse.assets.outOfDate.length||Muse.assets.required.length)&&alert("Some files on the server may be missing or incorrect. Clear browser cache and try again. If the problem persists please contact website author.")
Make sure you do not remove any semicolons or braces {} when making this edit. Just remove the text shown above. You will obviously need to remake these edits if you export your site as HTML in the future.

No formatting/css for just ONE site I go to. How to fix this?

I was watching videos on www.56.com last night. Everything was fine until all of a sudden I clicked on another video link and the page that was displayed lost all of it's formatting and CSS. I had been clicking on video links before that to watch videos and there wasn't a problem then then. Now, I just got a one column list of links. Videos and the structure of the site have completely disappeared no matter what video link I click on.
I have a MAC so have tried reloading the page, using the Command+Shift+R as well as restarting FF in safe mode to make sure it wasn't an add on or plug in issue. I have also reset firefox, cleared my cache, cleared recent history (setting is "everything" and I cleared cookies, cache), made sure images have been allowed on that website but still the problem persists.
I did try to open the website on another browser and that works so I know the issue is with FF. But I don't know how the issue came about since I didn't do any updates or anything and one minute everything was fine and the next minute all formatting was lost.
Any suggestions on what I can do?

I have a question about CSS cookie sticky.
- Server issues the following cookie string to the client and it is fixed to 18 bytes.
Set-Cookie: JSESSIONID=aaabbbcccdddeeefff; path=/
- Client embedded the following cookie string in the subsequent HTTP header.
Cookie: xx_user_id=ZZZZ03; com.dummy.xyz.session.cookie=|user|pc|ja|Shift_JIS|default||yellow|/oooo/default.portal|; JSESSIONID=aaabbbcccdddeeefff
* Note that I made cookie information suitable as example.
There is the cookie string (JSESSIONID=aaabbbcccdddeeefff) issued by Server in the HTTP header from client but that cookie string (JSESSIONID=aaabbbcccdddeeefff) is located following the cookie string that the client made by oneself at the end of cookie string. And the cookie string and the length of cookie string that client made by oneself might change so the total length of cookie string also might change. It means I can not clarify the total length of the cookie string.
In this situation, I want CSS to stick with cookie string "JSESSIONID=aaabbbcccdddeeefff".
The characters of string located following the "JSESSIONID=" (in this case, "aaabbbcccdddeeefff") might change but it is fixed to 18 bytes. The total length of cookie string is 141 bytes in above mentioned example.
So I informed customer to configure the following parameters to get CSS done cookie sticky for above mentioned cookie string. CSS software version is sg0750303.

the CSS does not learn dynamic cookie.
You can match a fixed string inside a cookie and pre-define which server to use with that specific string.
That's why your solution did not work.
Arrowpoint-cookie is a better solution and easier to implement.

Support for HTML and CSS properties

My biggest frustration with Acrobat Pro 9 is that it dropped support for certain HTML and/or CSS properties that were available in Acrobat Pro 8. In particular, the page-break-before attribute no longer works, nor does colspan. When I convert an HTML table with some colspans into a PDF, the table looks okay to the naked eye, but the structure behind the table (PDF tags) is incorrect.
I can live without the page breaks, but I need colspan. I need to do this for hundreds of tables, so opening the Acrobat Table Editor and fixing the colspan by hand is not an option. A scripting/programming solution is required. Has anyone found a workaround? Does Acrobat X fix this problem?
