CSSMERR_TP_NOT_TRUSTED

Why so hard to test my app on my iPhone from my Mac? All this code signing stuff is annoying at development tier.
I did everything I could find in Google, Apple Developer Forums and here. Nothing did work. It's very frustrating... This is one of the reasons why Android is growing fast... IT IS MUCH EASIER to make device tests.
I am really ropeless... just wasted $99.

For two long rainy days I worked on this. I loaded and deleted my certs and profiles so many times I had the instructions in the "iPhone Developer Program Standard Program Portal User Guide for OS X iPhone 2.0 " memorized.
These are a few of the fine details that finally got my Hello World app to load on my iPhone.
1. On your Mac's Keychain Access Program, under the login's Keys delete all the keys with duplicate names these are created while you are attempting to get your iPhone Developer Cert., profiles, etc to work. Only keep the key with the caret with the iPhone Developer sub category. Double click on this Key and set "Access Control" to "Allow all bla bla bla....."
2. On your Mac's Keychain Access Program, double click the login's 'My Certificates' iPhone Developer and under Trust set to "System Defaults"
3. In Xcode edit the "Bundle identifier" key in the info.plist of your application to read 123456.com.yourcompany.${PRODUCT_NAME:identifier} where 123456 is the Apple Id of your Provisioning Profile you created in http://developer.apple.com/iphone/manage/provisioningprofiles/index.action, it should be a string with few numbers and letters with an * at the end. Substitute that string for the 123456. Remember this only works if, when you created your Apple ID you gave it a name and entered "*" for the App ID(Bundle Seed ....)
4. Then in Xcode under the Build tag of your applications "Project info" set the following:
-- Under "Code Signing identity" set the subcategory "Device = iPhone OS 2.0" -> "iPhone Developer:" to the same name in the "Keychain Access Program" of your iPhone Developer Key (mentioned my step 1 of this madness).
-- Set "Code Signing Provisioning Profile" to "Default Provisioning Profile for Code Signing Identity" and the subcategory "Any iPhone OS Device" to the same "Default Provisioning Profile for Code Signing Identity".
Success

    Hello,
I did a quick search for your error as I found a few links that people have posted about this error. It appears to be an issue with  access for the key chain

  • Codesign gives CSSMERR_TP_NOT_TRUSTED every second time

What could be the problem when codesign gives me an CSSMERR_TP_NOT_TRUSTED error message, but not every time, even when signing a truly minimal OS X executable? I mean, if I run "codesign -s XXX --verbose --force t1" a dozen times or so from the shell, about half the times it succeeds, half the times fails with CSSMERR_TP_NOT_TRUSTED. This started happening last night. Is it some Apple server that is overloaded as people going to WWDC are iterating builds like crazy? But only the timestamp server is contacted when codesigning, right, and when that is unreachable the error message is different (yes, I have seen that, too, but not so often).
The output of "security find-identity" is:
    Policy: X.509 Basic
      Matching identities
      1) XXX "com.apple.idms.appleid.prd.xxx"
      2) XXX "com.apple.ubiquity.peer-uuid.xxx" (CSSMERR_TP_INVALID_ANCHOR_CERT)

(Not sure if those hex thingies in the output need to be kept secret or not, but just to be safe I replaced them with XXX...)
If I recall correctly, that CSSMERR_TP_INVALID_ANCHOR_CERT is not something that has been shown earlier.
Keychain Access shows all certificates as "valid".
What is the problem? Should I clean out my keychain completely and generate/download new developer certificates etc?

Ah! Could it be the Apple timestamp server(s) after all that is the problem here. If I add the --timestamp=none option, codesign always succeeds. Hmm.

  • Help with certficates - problems with CSSMERR_TP_NOT_TRUSTED & validating

I'm having problems with my machine, and it appears to be a certificate problem. The problems first started showing up with codesigning and when trying to re-install XCode. I've been trying to understand things through keychain, but I don't know if what I'm seeing is normal or not.
I've got two copies of Apple Root CA and Apple Root Certificate Authority in my keychains (one of each in "System", one of each in "System Roots"). I have no idea if that is normal or if that part of the problem. These all show up with "This root certificate is not trusted". I'm assuming that's OK, maybe that's part of the problem? (They are all have trust set to "use system defaults").
The Apple Worldwide Developer Relations intermediate certificate that I download from Apple doesn't appear to find or trust the Apple Root CA (in keychain, the AWWDR shows "This certificate was signed by an unknown authority, and keychain "evaluate" doesn't find a root certificate, even though Apple Root CA is in the keychain).
Note that the AWWDR certificate says that it's issuer was Apple Root CA, serial number 25, version 3, but the Apple Root CA certificate says that it's serial number 2, version 3. I'm not sure if that makes any difference.
The big problem is that because of what I believe to be certificate problems, I'm getting the CSSMERRTP_NOTTRUSTED error reported when I try to codesign or even when I try to install the iPhone SDK.
I did have my motherboard replaced a couple of months back, but things were working just fine (including codesigning) after that, and suddenly stopped working (I don't know when, I just know that I noticed the problem around Oct 12).
For what it's worth, the error when trying to install XCode (with iPhone SDK) is:
    10/16/10 12:20:02 PM Installer[1582] Failed install preflight: Error Domain=PKInstallErrorDomain Code=102 UserInfo=0x19dd99d0 "The package “iPhoneSDKTools.pkg” is untrusted." Underlying Error=(Error Domain=NSOSStatusErrorDomain Code=-2147409622 UserInfo=0x1aa22360 "The operation couldn’t be completed. CSSMERRTP_NOTTRUSTED")

Reinstalling Snow Leopard from the original DVD seems to have cleared up the problem. My Apple Root CA certificate now shows "valid".

Okay — I tried downloading with Safari instead of Chrome. I ran the installer and had the exact same error.
Then I logged into another user account on the machine — the 'useradmin' one that our IT guys put on all the laptops and ran the installer. The same error occured eventually, but something new happened — I was told that the installer was untrusted and when I went to reveal more, I thought I should grab a screenshot, which I've attached.
If I click the "Always trust.." checkbox, I still get the error.
    Weird.
Let me know what else to try — I'll do whatever you suggest.
