Cups 1.4 upgrade

I may be the first to notice as I just built a new system and upgraded to cups prior to adding a network printer.
The new cups adminstration web interface looks very nice but is extremely slow and apparently prefers to use php-cgi if available.  A search indicates that php-cgi
is deprecated in Arch
Web Interface
  10. Look-n-feel; the web interface has been given a new look.
  11. PHP support; the "php-cgi" program is used, when available, to process PHP pages in the CUPS web interface.
  12. Printer configuration; improvements have been made to the add and modify printer pages.
  13. Printer options; the Set Default Options page now provides a "query" button that queries the default and installed options from the printer.
  14. Printer sharing; the "share printer" and "unshare printer" buttons are now only shown when printer sharing is enabled in the scheduler.
  15. Security; the web interface has been updated to support authentication for printing of test pages and RSS subscription operations.
  16. Server settings; the Administration page now provides access to common "advanced" server settings.
When I attempt to add a new network printer (via parallel print server) using a root password the browser just keeps "waiting for localhost".
My /etc/hosts file is set up per the arch wiki:
# /etc/hosts: static lookup table for host names
#<ip-address>   <hostname.domain.org>   <hostname>
127.0.0.1               localhost.localdomain   localhost Bear
# End of file
My cups log shows
localhost - - [12/Oct/2009:09:33:47 -0700] "POST / HTTP/1.1" 200 415 CUPS-Get-Printers client-error-not-found
localhost - - [12/Oct/2009:10:07:42 -0700] "POST / HTTP/1.1" 200 415 CUPS-Get-Printers client-error-not-found
I had no problems with 1.3* version of cups.  Any suggestions appreciated

did you make sure you don't have "usblp" module loaded?

  • Cups hangs on upgrade to https [SOLVED]

    Hey
I have edited my  cupsd.conf to allow remote configuration of my Cups server and can access the web interface through port 631.  My problem is when I click on the admin tab and then try to "upgrade" to https the page just hangs.  I also have the problem that when I try to restart the cups daemon it successfully kills it but then cannot start back up.  /var/log/cups/error_log shows the following.

  • Upgrade Order - CUCM, CUC, & CUP

Customer has a virtual CUCM, CUC & CUP environment running on 2 hosts in the same chassis.  CUC & CUP are misbehaving due to known CPU utilization bugs and will be upgraded to latest SU.  Question is what to upgrade first?  CUC is the most unstable, so upgrading it first was my initial thought, then CUP and CUCM last.  Is there any reason to change this order of updates?
    CUCM 8.6(2a)SU2     update to 8.6(2a)SU5
    CUC 8.6(2a)SU3        update to 8.6(2a)SU5
    CUP 8.6(5)                 update to 8.6(5)SU3
    I appreciate it,
    Beau

You can upgrade CUCM or CUC in either order based on the versions you provided.  CUP should be upgraded after CUCM has been upgraded.

  • Help Needed in Fixing USB Printer after CUPS Update [SOLVED]

CUPS updated a while ago but I didn't notice any warnings from pacman or whatever. I did later notice on the front page that cups had been upgraded so that usblp is no longer usable. It told me to blacklist usblp, and so I did. I also upgraded the /etc/cups/cupsd.conf file as per the instructions.
    I still cannot print.
When I plug in my printer, I get the following in /var/log/messages.log:
kernel: usb 5-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2
kernel: usb 5-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
load-modules.sh: Not loading module 'usblp' for alias 'usb:v03F0p1D17d0100dc00dsc00dp00ic07isc01ip03' because it is blacklisted
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I did indeed, though the solutions presented seemed quite convoluted.
Luckily, I have printing working by readding the printer.

  • Huge Number of Deps when Upgrading KDE packages from 4.14 to 14.12

    Hi,
I know the KDE upgrade issue is "flavor of the day" at the moment and I have read other threads on it; but so far have not found info which applies to my situation.
Note: I only use a FEW KDE apps like Krusader, Yakuake, Konsole, Kcalc and do NOT use KDE the Desktop Environment (and have no desire to do so.)  In fact, I do not use any DE's, only Openbox and i3WM as Window Managers, preferring a minimalistic approach, IOW, "less is more".

    :: Proceed with installation? [Y/n]
I have looked at almost all of the packages listed above and I currently only have a few of those installed. I can recognize the obvious ones I use (Krusader, Konsole, Gwenview and a few others) and their current deps.  When I do a pacman -Qs on each of the above packages/deps, most of them are NOT currently installed.
Trying to keep my system light, with no unnecessary packages, I fail to see why I would need packages such as kcrash, kbookmarks, kconfigwidgets, kemoticons, knotifications, kwallet (I definitely do NOT use kwallet).
When I look at the Net Upgrade Size of +172.52 MiB, again, I fail to see WHY I would need to load my system up with all of these packages--unless absolutely necessary.  But why would running the SAME apps as before, just upgrading them, require an extra 172+ MiB?  That does NOT seem right at all.  Granted, some of these MiB's are allocated to the other packages at end of list such as mesa, etc.; but most of the 172+ MiB's are most likely allocated to the KDE-related packages.
    1) Short-term
I have tried to Ignore the packages in pacman.conf by adding "kde kdegraphics kdebase kdenetwork kf5 plasma-next" to the IgnoreGroup and "yakuake oxygen-icons kdebase-lib kdebase-runtime" to the IgnorePkg but that is not enough since there are some packages which do not belong to any group so I would need to hunt them down one by one, etc.  And this does not seem to be the right approach, in any event.
    2) Long-term
I do want to upgrade the applications which I DO use, such as Krusader, Konsole, etc.; so it would seem I need to resolve this issue.
For further info, if I change the replies on the choices pacman offers on upgrading, this is what I get (which is probably normal):
    % pacman -Syu
    :: Synchronizing package databases...
    core is up to date
    extra is up to date
    community is up to date
    multilib is up to date

    :: konsolepart4 and kdebase-konsole are in conflict. Remove kdebase-konsole? [y/N] n
    error: unresolvable package conflicts detected
error: failed to prepare transaction (conflicting dependencies)
    :: konsolepart4 and kdebase-konsole are in conflict (kdebase-konsole<4.14.3-4)
So, what am I missing?  Just a few brain cells, i.e. the apps I have (in their updated versions) actually DO need all of the deps listed?  (This really makes no sense to me.)
Or is there a problem with the required dependencies?
    Thanks for any helpful feedback.

Well, If you are correct (and you probably are), with all due respect to KDE users/developers, IMHO this just confirms the trend towards "bloat".....
Again, I see no reason whatsoever to have to install kwallet (for example) when I'm just not using it, etc.
This just makes me want to uninstall those apps altogether or, probably better, just stop at the versions I currently have and prevent them from upgrading, as a temporary solution.
I might be able to switch to other smaller/lighter apps, over time--which will probably have less features, though, but can't always have your cake and eat it too, I suppose.
What is the best way for me to prevent this upgrade of all kde-related apps from 4.14 to higher versions?
I mentioned in my original post which groups and packages I tried adding to pacman.conf IgnoreGroup and IgnorePkg but I am obviously missing something.
Any suggestions as to how to properly stop from upgrading?
This is where I am right now, for pacman.conf
    IgnorePkg = netcfg cups libcups compton-conf-git caps opera yakuake oxygen-icons kdebase-lib kdebase-runtime kdebase-konsole kdegraphics-gwenview kdebase-katepart kdelibs kdepimlibs libkdcraw libkipi libkomparediff2
    IgnoreGroup = kde kdegraphics kdebase kdenetwork kf5 kf5-aids plasma-next

  • Share an Epson C86 with a PC using CUPS on Snow Leopard 10.6.3

    Hi,
I used to do this a lot in previous version of OS X but I am stuck with X.6.3.
I would create a printer in OS X. Share it in the pref panel. Then would co in CUPS and find the queue name.
Then I would go on a PC. Add a PS printer (Apple laserwriter or similar) create a TCP port and point it to the mac IP and queue name found in CUPS.
Would always work like a charm. Even on Mac OS 7.5 and up....
Can't get to print. Windows can't print to the shared printer in X.6.3. I do not want to use Bonjour for this. LPR used to work.
    Questions :
Does CUPS 1.4.3 still support LPd/LPR on OS X. The documentation of CUPS says so...but does SL let it in?
If not, how to enable it?
Now I get a forbidden message when I try to access the admin section of CUPS sine I upgraded to X.6.3.
Any help would be appreciated....because this is a no go to upgrade to SL...
    Thanks!

I resolbed the acces to the admin page. On X.6.2 and less, Icould acce the CUPS interface with my IP address recived from my router ex: 192.168.0.100.
On x.6.3 I need to use localhost to acces the admin page.
I've always used localhost (127.0.0.1) to access the CUPS page. Using the assigned IP has always been an issue Tiger, Leopard and now Snow.
The terminal did accept the command but no printing using lpd lpr.
I finally used IPP pri ting with succes.
Lpd was the only way I could use my inkjet printer on OS 9 and less.
If anyone has a way to reenable it on X.6.3 that would be welcome.
Good to read that you got it working with IPP.
I'm not sure that anything additional needs to be re-enabled for LPD/LPR to work. For a standard install of 10.6.3, after adding LPD to the "Browse Local Protocols" command via Terminal, I was able to print to my shared Canon MP980 inkjet from XP SP3.
Maybe someone else can offer some insight...

  • CUPS upgrade from 8.6.4 to 9.1.1

I have successfully upgraded UCM from 8.6 to 9.1 and am now trying to upgrade CUPS from 8.6.4.10000-28 to 9.1.1.20000-5 (which I guess now makes it IM & P). But during the upgrade on CUPS it is failing with a message in the logs.
I am running 9.1.1.20000-5 on UCM and am trying to upgrade to that exact build on CUPS.

I have verified that the active running version of UCM is 9.1.1 and since I am going from 8.6 to 9.1 on CUPS I don’t need a refresh upgrade, but still this is failing. Can anyone help me understand what I am doing wrong?
Looking at the logs a bit closer, I wonder if this actually indicates that CUPS cannot determine what the Active Version is? There is no data in the active or inaction version lines...Does anyone know if there should be??

Our problem ended up being that the AXL communication with the CUCM Publisher had been broken. We ended up finding out that the password had been changed. Once we restored AXL connection the upgrade proceeded.

  • Post CUPS 8.5(3) upgrade getting CUPC "did not receive your message because it could not be delivered".

I upgraded CUPS from 7.0(2) to 8.5(3) and now CUPC 7.1(1a) clients can’t chat each other, they now get the following message.
Rose, Bob did not receive your message because it could not be delivered. (3:14 PM)
Wireshark shows response back from CUPS server ip as 408 Request Timeout.
Only the server was upgraded, not the clients.

After several hours with Cisco TAC we found CSCsl63971  (case-sensitivity on proxy domain causes CUPC problems) and were able to resolve the issue so users can continue to use CUPC 7.1(1)

  • CUPS upgrade 6.01 to 6.03 HTTP 404 Error

I have just upgraded CUPS 6.01 to 6.03.
When I try to access the web page (https://<ip>:8443 I get the option to go to Unified Presence Server Admin. However when I select that I get the following error message.
    HTTP Status 404 - /ccmadmin/
    type Status report
    message /ccmadmin/
description The requested resource (/ccmadmin/) is not available.
    Apache Tomcat/5.5.17
I can get to the /cmplatform
I have tried rebooting, no change
I have reverted back to 6.01 and all works well again, then tried migrating back to 6.03 same problem
    Any ideas???

I've ran into this on CUCM 9.0 a couple of times.
First thing I check is if my Services are running through the Unix CLI:
    utils service list page
The added page command will allow you to scroll through by page or by line.
Then start what services I see are not running. It usually comes down to Cisco Tomcat so I restart it:
    utils service start Cisco Tomcat
This command will also start the AXL Web Service, CAR Web Service and other various services that rely on a the Web GUI.

  • Upgraded to CUPS 8.5 - MP and VM not function ?

    Hi ;
Currently just upgrade the customer CUPS from 7.0 to 8.5. It look good, but after that found out from CUPC server health the MP and VM shown in red, not able to communicate to MP server and Voice Mail. But for CUPC 7.x access to CUPS 8.5 no issue at all. All the CUPS configuration remain the same in 7.0 during upgrade to 8.5.
anybody come across for this issue ? Pls advice. Thanks.

I can confirm the third USB monitor issue. I ran into it at another customer but they chose to just install a PCI Express card instead of working through it with TAC.
Most of the issues I have ran into have been video card driver related. CUPC uses DirectX and the release notes even say to make sure the latest driver is installed. If that doesn't fix it then you get to play Cisco QA with TAC.

  • Cups after upgrade...

after the upgrade it seems to have stopped working, eventhough i dont get any error when it starts. i checked the printers.conf file and it has the same printer i was using, i even tried to add it again through kcontrol but i get this:
"Unable to retrieve the printer list. Error message received from manager: Connection to CUPS server failed. Check that the CUPS server is correctly installed and running. Error: host not found."
i checked hosts and rc.conf for host and everything seems to be like it was before the upgrade. i checked around the forum but the other cups issues didnt resemble mine. thx for any help.

thx but that didn't work, my layout was:
    127.0.0.1  localhost.localdomain  arch4
    i changed it to:
    127.0.0.1  localhost.localdomain  localhost
still didn't work, plus a problem with this layout is, as i predicted, that it prevents proftpd from starting because it needs the hostname where 'localhost' is. so is now im back to the layout i had (the one on top), thx though.
ps. as well as your sugestion gullible jones.

  • CUPS upgrade switch version fails

    Hello,
I'm upgrading CUPS 6.0.5.10000-13 to 7.0.2.10000-36 which I have downloaded from CCO.
I restarted the server and when I apply switch version command from CLI to swtich to ver 7, it doesn't do anything.
Has any body experience this kind of issue? This is a standalone lab installation so physically there's no CUCM connected. I have restored production CUPS backup on it and wants to upgrade to ver 7.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sak

    This is most likely CSCsl59162.
I might be wrong, but I don't think nodatasync would fix the problem.
"nodatasync" parameter is used on CUCM to turn off UFF (User Faced Feature) synchronization.  UFF means, MWI, Call Forwarding, etc..  Since CUPS does not have UFF, this parameter shouldn't make any difference on switch-version command.
If "nodatasync" didn't fix the problem, you may open a TAC case and provide bug ID CSCsl59162.  TAC engineer should be able to apply workaround per the bug.
