Curl takes a minute to download a file.

If I use 'curl' from a command prompt it always takes at least a minute to download a file, no matter how simple:
Deep-Thought:~ paul$ curl www.google.com > ~/Desktop/google.html
% Total % Received % Xferd Average Speed Time Time Time Current
Dload Upload Total Spent Left Speed
100 5296 0 5296 0 0 87 0 --:--:-- 0:01:00 --:--:-- 25607
Deep-Thought:~ paul$ ls -l `which curl`
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 216992 24 Sep 06:14 /usr/bin/curl
Any ideas?
Leopard installed as an upgrade to 10.4.10.

Traced to a fauly DNS relay on my router. The router wasn't responding to SVR DNS requests. Replacing the DNS by my ISP's own fixed things.

  • Mail takes 9 minutes to download and says "resuming interrupted append"

Recently I have begun to have problems getting my mail. After I click "get mail" it takes about 9 minutes to download from msn. This is a real problem as when the download is happening the ball spins and I can do little else but wait -- Safari is extremely slow or will not work when the mail is downloading. The phrase that shows up is "resuming interrupted append." I have rebuilt mail and used disc utility to repair permissions. Thank you.

Where are you basing a proportional relationship in
size on between the mbox file and the content_index
    and tableofcontents package content files?
I'm not establishing any proportional relationship. Note that the scale numbers I used were notably different for each file (20+, 12 and 4). I would expect, however, that the larger the mbox file is, the larger the other supporting files should be as well, more so if there is a problem with that mailbox, as is clearly the case here.
Rebuild Mailbox function on all Panther mailboxes
    before upgrading to Tiger?
I believe I did, but I cannot say for sure now. Given your numbers, it could very well be that I didn't. Note, however, that the mailboxes I'm talking about were "On My Mac" ones (my Inbox contains unread messages only), with little or no activity other than moving messages into them.
I helped a large number of people with "overstuffed"
mailbox issues before Tiger was released and when
asking for the package content files and size of
each, all those with this problem had other package
content files (besides the mbox file) that exceeded
MBs in size regardless if the overall size of the
mailbox exceeded 1GB in size or not.
And this is exactly what I'm talking about. I was just wondering what made you believe Mail had stored any actual messages in the supporting files. With an mbox file size on the order of 120 MB, the sizes reported by Stephanie for the supporting files seem pretty consistent with many other problematic cases I've seen reported here, and I've yet not seen a single case that made me even consider the possibility that Mail could have stored actual messages in the supporting files.
What I was saying is just that I don't believe it can be inferred that Mail has stored any actual messages in the supporting files (actually, I'm pretty sure it hasn't), neither in this nor in any other case. I wasn't suggesting any proportional relationship in the file sizes. I chose my own mailboxes as an example to illustrate a case where even in the absence of any problems, the size of the supporting files could be much larger than you would expect, despite the corresponding mbox file being more than 20 times smaller. Sorry if this has caused any misunderstandings.

  • Email can take several minutes to download on the new iPad 64 with WiFi.  I have an iPad 2, wifi, and another new iPad 8, wifi and neither has the time delay to download email.  Please advise.

Email on the new iPad (64) WiFi version can take up to five minutes to download a message.  Same message on iPad 2 or new iPad (8) with WiFi are instantaneous.  Wondering why and how to correct.

Try quitting the mail app and then relaunch it and see if the emails download correctly.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.

  • How can I resolve an issue where webpages take several minutes to download? Other computers working on the same home network take not time at all.

Firefox would not load webpage despite there being an active internet connection to the computer. I know this because firefox loaded on another home computer without any issues. I reset the ip address on the computer in question through cmd.exe and this helped the issue to an extent however it take several minutes to load webpages. I can also advise tha Internet Explorer suffered exactly the same issue and it gave me an error message early when unable to load webpages, that a remote firewall may be blocking the connection. It suggested to configure the firewall to allow connections thru TCP port 80.

    Hello ,
Can you please post your ADSL stats by following this direct link; http://192.168.1.254/index.cgi?active_page=9116 << it only works if you have a Home Hub 2.0+ and remember to type your password in.
Also we need a speedtest Use this link http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9354/c/346,4740,5520 as it will also help you diagnose and give you a list of solutions afterwards, it does incorporate the http://www.speedtester.bt.com one though as well.
It sounds to me that you have a low profile, with your stats we can see if you've been having disconnections which makes the exchange raise your Noise Margin to try and increase your stabibility, but at a cost of speed, it may have been that your sync speed has recovereed, but not your IP Profile.
Here are some helpful (I actually did find them helpful!) tips from BT: http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/35079 up to you whether you want to read those tips, because I did actually find them helpful.
Can you comfirm that you have no noise on the line.  Really a test by dialling 17070 and pressing option 2 for the quiet line test should be completed in the Master Socket with no other devices connected to the line.  ANd also do you have a master socket with a split faceplate that you can unscrew the bottom half, if so behind there is a hidden 'test socket', it disconnects all your internal wiring so just to make sure its not a fault inside your premises.

  • Why does it take so long to Download wave file on iPad

It just stays in the downloading state with the small wheel spinning...

  • Bug Report:  Loading Process Takes 5 Minutes when Opening A File

The last Vista 64-bit Windows auto update dated 28Oct09 installed iTunes v9.0.2.25 and Quicktime v7.6.4 ()1327.73). Quicktime seems to have a flaw.
When you open a .mov or mp3 file the little quarter inch "working" circle continues to spin for about 5 minutes, even though the audio or video file is playing. If you pause the playback, then drag the file to the trash or delete it, you get the blue screen of death as the computer shuts down. Closing the file then deleting it works properly.
Have any other Vista 64-bit users with Quicktime v7.6.4 ()1327.73) experienced these issues?

Finder crashes are often caused by "Google Drive." If it's installed, I suggest you first check for an update. If that doesn't solve the problem, remove it according to the developer's instructions. You may need to start the computer in safe mode to do so. Back up all data before making any changes.
If you use Google Drive and don't want to remove it, then try deselecting the option in its preferences to "show status icons." According to reports, that may be enough to stop the crashing.
Similar cloud-data clients such as "Dolly Drive," "iDrive," "Open Drive," "Transporter Desktop," and others can cause the same problem.

I couldn't find the edit button on my original post so I am posting an update here.
I have gone through more apps and have had good luck on all but one more.  And it's not that the app doesn't work, I am talking about the Yahoo Weather app, It works fine, but when you swipe between cities the screen lags a bit and it sometimes doesn't move between pages the way it should.  On iOS 7.1.2 it was smooth as butter but on iOS 8.0, not so much.  I will post a note in the app store to let them know.  I really like the Yahoo app better than the new stock app.
I have been going through my games and they all work fine. Angry Birds (Original and Stella), Canabalt, Minecraft, Bejeweled 2, Silly Walks, PopWords, Doodle Jump, Deep Green all seem to work just fine.
Starbucks app works as it should.
I will stop back again next week after I have had the weekend to play with it in detail and post my thoughts again.

  • Apple TV shows take 15 hours to download, HD movies take minutes, why??

This I ridiculous. I've purchased Breaking Bad Season 2 and cannot even watch it on my Apple TV. It says a show will take 15+ hours to download whilst a HD movie will download immediately. Why is this so?

What kind of internet connection speed do you have?
If you have 3Mbps DSL like I do, and are renting movies on either Apple TV model in HD Format, then it will take quite a while. Actually 3 Hours for an HD Movie would be failry fast here at my home. They are just large files. If I'm going to rent an HD movie, I will usually rent it earlier in the day and watch it when I'm ready.
If you have an adequate internet connection, and just want to rent movies on the fly and don't care about HD, on the AppleTV v2 you can go to Settings / General / iTunes Store / Video Resolution... and select Standard Definition. With our 3Mbps DSL connection, when we rent a movie it is generally "Ready to Play..." within about 2 minutes at the most (enough time to grab a beer and get comfortable)
As far as I know, Standard Definition movies still show on the same menu as the HD version with the ATV v1. I preferred that menu format myself because you didn't have to change the option in settings when you wanted to go back and forth.

  • Downloading an app on to my iPad mini takes 15 minutes or more. Is there a way to speed up the process?

Downloading an app on to my iPad mini takes 15 minutes or more just for one app is there a way to speed up the process?

Maybe your internet is very slow.
    Try reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
Note: Data will not be affected.

  • When I click to open anything I get a box saying open link in new window, open link in new tab, download linked file etc.  When I go to close anything I get hide toolbar, customize toolbar.  It takes  3-5 clicks and it will finally close.

In Firefox Options / Privacy be sure "Remember download history" is checked. To see all of the options on that panel, "Firefox will" must be set to "Use custom settings for history".
To find your OS information, on your Windows desktop, right-click the My Computer icon, choose Properties, under System on that small window is info about your OS.

I know it doesn't answer your specific question but you could experiment with another AUR helper.  Or just use makepkg.

  • Opening Excel 2010 files from Explorer takes several minutes

I am running Excel 2010 on Windows 7. For the last year I have had no problems, but today I find that if I try to open any file from Windows Explorer (e.g. by double-clicking it), or from an item pinned to the Task Bar, it takes several minutes to open Excel.
If I open Excel directly it opens very quickly. I can also open any of the "problem" files in an instant when Excel is open (e.g. from the Recent Files list or from  the File...Open dialog). All of the files in question are on the local hard
    disk.
    I don't have this problem with MS-Word.
I saw another post here which recommended unchecking the "Ignore
other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)" option, but I didn't have this option set in the first place.
Does anyone have any other suggestions for fixing this?

Double click an excel file, when the excel loading window appears, start Task Manager, terminate the excel process, then re-open the excel file to test if this issue goes away.
Also someone resolved this issue by installing an add-in. Have a try.
File->options->Add-ins->Select "Excel Add-Ins" in Manage list box and click button "Go..." ->Tick the add-ins that you want and click button "OK"

I am attempting to download 2 films from itunes one states download in 54 minute and is 2.01 Gb and the other states 1.64gb and will take 4 hours to download any advice?

It seems that I have solved my issue by performing a full factory reset (erasing all content, something which I had hoped to avoid) restoring from an iCloud backup did not alleviate the issue, I had to set up as a new iPad.
Hopefully anyone else else who has this issue in the future will be able to find this.

I am trying to figure it out, I have done everything
I had this around the end of Jan for about a week then I did some changes in my firewall and allwas good ( or so I thought) for 2 weeks and now its back again since Friday ( thats when I noticed it)
    I have done the following
    refreshed my connection
    speedtest
    unpluged it
check my pc firewall again and added anything to do with Apple and itunes to the exceptions list
check my router firewall and settings myself and with my cable comp
I also called my anti-virus/Firewall tech supp and could not find a thing
youtube netflix work fine but streaming a 2 min 33 sec trailer from itunes takes for ever and I see the white bar downloading
I can stream TV shows but like 20 min for it to be ready sometimes an hour
I am also seeing downloads from itunes store for a 22 min show take 3 hours
I have tried everything on my part. even downloaded a show from zune that was done fast as itunes used be, infact Thursday it was working fine (Itune store downloads)
something is up with the itune store because there is nothing more I can do
I even have a signal booster in my living room to make sure the family room and kitchen get a good signal
my apple tv is in the next room where the modem is and router
