Currency.getSymbol() return value (3 letter versus symbol)

For a given Currency, how can you return the actual currency symbol and not the 3 letter abbreviation, regardless of the user's locale or default locale? I am aware of other formatting issues related to currency such as fractional digits and separators, but I am just focusing on the symbol here. I have to use Java 1.4. In the examples below the default locale is en_US. In my real application, the currecy code can be any valid one, not just the two I am using here as an example.
Example 1:
double num = 1234.56;
System.out.println(Currency.getInstance("USD").getSymbol() + num);
System.out.println(Currency.getInstance("EUR").getSymbol() + num);Actual Outputs:
$1234.56
EUR1234.56
Example 2:
double num = 1234.56;
NumberFormat formatter = NumberFormat.getCurrencyInstance();
Currency usd = Currency.getInstance("USD");
Currency eur = Currency.getInstance("EUR");
formatter.setCurrency(usd);
System.out.println(formatter.format(num));
formatter.setCurrency(eur);
System.out.println(formatter.format(num));Actual Outputs:
$1,234.56
EUR1,234.56
Desired Outputs (symbol displays for both):
$1,234.56
1,234.56
Any suggestions? Thank you.

Instead of checking if the currency name is present in the locale's name, why not check if the symbol returned isn't equal to the currency code? The only way I could see this not working is if different countries have different symbols for a single country's currency (I don't know if there are any cases of this or not).
private String getSymbol(String currName) {
  Currency currency = Currency.getInstance(currName);
  Locale[] allLocales = Locale.getAvailableLocales();
  for (int i = 0; i < allLocales.length; i++)
    String symbol = currency.getSymbol(allLocales);
if(!symbol.equals(currName))
return symbol;
return currName;

  • Javascript - Formatting Return Values & Removing Decimal in Dollar Amount

    Hi, I'm looking for some help. I'm new to Javascript and working off my limited knowledge. Below is one item I need help figuring out.
    ---JavaScript Registration Fee---
    I'm using the following document level Javascript in Acrobat to calculate the pro-rated registration fee based on the current month:
    **Note: Text Field "Today" is using the following value:
    var f = this.getField("Today");
    if (f.value=="") f.value = util.printd("mm/dd/yyyy", new Date());
    ---- Below is the Registration Fee Javascript ---
    function calculateRegistrationFee() {
         var s = this.getField("Today").value;
         if (s!="") {
              var d = util.scand("mm/dd/yyyy", s);
              return (12-(d.getMonth())) * 1.25;
         return "";
    I use the following in the Text Field (Text Field Properties ---> Format ---> Custom Format Script) to display the results:
    event.value = (calculateRegistrationFee()).toString();
    1) How can I format the return value to remove the decimal (period) from the results & split into two text fields?
    For Question #1 - Example 1, Let's look at this example:
    Using the current date (05/22/2013), then
    a. The output of the function above = 10
    This is a dollar amount so the output 10 is really $10.00. I would enter the cost into two fields (RegFee1 & RegFee2) as "10 00". (See below). So how do I format the return value to enter into these fields correctly?
    For Question #1 - Example 2, Let's look at this example:
    Using the current date (06/22/2013), then
    a. The output of the function above = 8.75
    Given the information in the example above, how do I format this return value to enter into these fields correctly?
    Thanks,
    Stephen

    Some time ago I created this (german) how to document

    is helpful.

  • How to retreive and display return value from BAPI

    Hello,
    I am using SUP to create a sales order application. In my MBO I have a create operation which calls a BAPI to create a sales order. How can I retrieve the return value (saled doc number) and display it on a screen and display it as an Alert of BB application.
    Regards
    Nidhideep Bhandari

    Hi David Brandow,
    I have tried your solution where I just created a MBO for my 'operation' and I'm using sync parameters to execute the RFC.
    The problem I'm facing is, for example, if I create a record it gets saved in the MBO table and the record successfully gets created in SAP as well after a sync. But when I create another record and sync, the previously saved record in MBO table also gets executed so I'm getting duplicate entries in SAP.
    Have you or anyone faced this problem?
    Any response is appreciated. Please let me know if I'm not clear, I realized its a complicated scenario.
    Thanks,
    Sandeep

  • Getter/setter methods -- how do I use the return values

    I'm just learning Java, and I haven't been to this site since the end of July, I think. I have a question regarding getter and setter methods. I switched to the book Head First Java after a poster here recommended it. I'm only about a hundred pages into the book, so the code I'm submitting here reflects that. It's the beginnings of a program I'd eventually like to complete that will take the entered information of my CD's and alphabetize them according to whatever criteria I (or any user for that matter) choose. I realize that this is just the very beginning, and I don't expect to have the complete program completed any time soon -- it's my long term goal, but I thought I could take what I'm learning in the book and put it to practical use as I go along (or at lest try to).
    Yes I could have this already done it Excel, but where's the fun and challenge in that? :) Here's the code:
    // This program allows the user to enter CD information - Artist name, album title, and year of release -- and then organizes it according the the user's choice according to the user's criteria -- either by artist name, then title, then year of release, or by any other order according to the user's choice.
    //First, the class CDList is created, along with the necessary variables.
    class CDList{
         private String artistName;//only one string for the artist name -- including spaces.
         private String albumTitle;//only one string the title name -- including spaces.
         private int yearOfRelease;
         private String recordLabel;
         public void setArtistName(String artist){
         artistName = artist;
         public void setAlbumTitle(String album){
         albumTitle = album;
         public void setYearOfRelease(int yor){
         yearOfRelease = yor;
         public void setLabel(String label){
         recordLabel = label;
         public String getArtistName(){
         return artistName;
         public String getAlbumTitle(){

              Record[x].setAlbumTitle(album);
              out.println ("Year of Release: ");
              int yor= s.nextInt();
                    s.nextLine();
              Record[x].setYearOfRelease(yor);
              out.println ("Record Label: ");
              String label = s.nextLine();

    }//end class          First, I'd like to ask anyone out there to see if I could have written this any more efficiently, with the understanding that I'm only one hundred pages into the book, and I've only gotten as far as getter and setter methods, instance variables, objects and methods. The scanner feature I got from another book, but I abandoned it in favor of HFJ.
    Secondly --
    I'm confused about getter and setter methods -- I'd like someone to explain to me what they are used for exactly and the difference between the two. I have a general idea, that getters get a result from the method and setters set or maybe assign a value to variable. I submitted this code on another site, and one of the responders told me I wasn't using the returned values from the getter methods (he also told me about using a constructor method, but I haven't got that far in the book yet.). The program compiles and runs fine, but I can't seem to figure out how I'm not using the returned values from the getter methods. Please help and if you can explain in 'beginners terms,' with any code examples you think are appropriate. It will be greatly appreciated.
    By the way, I'm not a professional programmer -- I'm learning Java because of the intellectual exercise and the fun of it. So please keep that in mind as well.

But this is something every new programmer goes through, and I will not spoil the fun. You see, in 3 to 6 months when you have learned much more Java, assuming you stick with it, you will look back at this and be like "what the hell was I thinking" and then realize just haw far you have come. So enjoy that moment and don't spoil it now by asking for what could have been better/ more efficient. If it works it works, just be happy it works.

So please keep that in mind as well.First, if you posted this somewhere else you should link to that post, it is good you at least said you did, but doubleposting is considered very rude because what inevitably happens in many cases is the responses are weighed against each other. So you are basically setting anyone up who responds to the post for a trap that could make them look bad when you double post.
    You are setting you getters and setters up right as far as I can tell. Which tells me that I think you grasp that a getter lets another class get the variables data, and a setter lets another class set the data. One thing, be sure to use the full variable name so you should have setRecordLabel() and getRecodLabel() as opposed to setLabel() and getLabel(). Think about what happens if you go back and add a label field to the CDList class, bad things the way you have it currently. Sometimes shortcuts are not your friend.
    And yes, you are using the getters all wrong since you are not saving off what they return, frankly I am suprised it compiles. It works because you don't really need to use the getters where you have them since the CDList Record (should be lowercase R by the way) object already knows the data and uses it in the printout() method. Basically what you are doing in lines like:
    Record[x].getArtistName();is asking for the ArtistName in Record[x] and then getting the name and just dropping it on the floor. You need to store it in something if you want to keep it, like:
    String artistName = Record[x].getArtistName();See how that works?
    Hope this helped, keep up the good learning and good luck.

  • How to use return value from TestComplete ( using COM) as a variable in the conditional statement (e.g. while loop) in TestStand

    Hi,
    I have setup a COM interface for TestStand(TS) to run certain scripts in TestComplete (TC).  Normally, when TestComplete finishes executing the script, it returns a 0 or 1 to denote pass/fail in the TestStand step (e.g String value test step).  This worked fine.
    However, now I need TestComplete to return a vaule( e.g 32) to TS, and TS need to evalue this value in a while statement. So if TC return value is 32, I'd have some statement in TS ike :
    While (return value != 30)
    Do something..
    Thanks,
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    There are a hundred ways to implement what you are asking.  The hard part is deciding which one would be the best for you.
    What adapter are you using to communicate with TestComplete?  ActiveX?  Is TestComplete running asynchronously (in parallel)?  If so then how is the data getting back to TestStand?
    So here are some options:
    1. You can use the While Step type.  It's in the Flow Control folder in your Step Types pallette.  Look in your examples under UsingFlowControlSteps.seq in the SequenceFlow
    2. You can loop on a step and have the termination for the loop be (return value == 30).  Look in the Step Properties under Looping.  Also in the TestStand help
    3. You could do Post Actions based on a condition and have it jump to another step.  Read about it in the TestStand Reference Manual.
    4. You could use a GoTo step.  I don't really recommend this one.  It makes code hard to maintain.  Also an example in SequenceFlow called gotobeep.seq.
    Hopefully this gets you thinking.  Let me know if you have specific questions about any of these methods.

  • Trying to write an if statement around the return value of a CANCEL_OPTION

    I am writing a program that takes an input String using JOptionPane. The String can be made of only letters of the A-Z alphabet and the space character. I have written an error-checking loop that will pop another input box up along with an error message if any invalid character is detected. The input box has an 'ok' button and a 'cancel' button. As it is, if you hit cancel, the program crashes and you get a NullPointerException. All I want to do is place an if statement inside of the error-checking loop, immediatly after the code to pop up the second input box, that simply does System.exit() and exits the program correctly(rather than crashing) if 'cancel' is clicked.
    My attempt at such an if statement is visible in the following code(letter is a boolean variable defined earlier, and message is the input String that has already been read in):
                   letter = isValidMessage(message);
              while(!letter)
                   message = JOptionPane.showInputDialog(null, "Message must contain only A-Z, a-z, or space character...");
                            if(JOptionPane.CANCEL_OPTION > 0  //or ==0 or ==1 or ==2, nothing works//)
                                JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "No valid message entered - program will terminate...");
                                System.exit(JOptionPane.CANCEL_OPTION);
                   letter = isValidMessage(message);
                    }The if statement doesn't work correctly. If you click 'cancel' when the input box comes up, the program does terminate as it is supposed to. The problem is that if I type something in the box and click 'ok', it also causes the program to terminate rather than continuing. I've tried changing the > to ==. I've tried changing 0 to 1 to 2 to -1(I really am not sure which int return value of CANCEL_OPTION corresponds to which event). I think once I got to do the exact opposite...that is to say, it would continue on with the program whether I clicked 'cancel' or 'ok'. Which is equally bad. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
    It's probably something simple that I'm just overlooking.

    Well, here's what CANCEL_OPTION is, according to the JOptionPane class:
    /** Return value from class method if CANCEL is chosen. */
        public static final int         CANCEL_OPTION = 2;However, I believe you're going about this in the wrong way.
    With JOptionPane, whenever you show a dialog, it usually returns whatever OPTION the user chose.
    For instance,
        int choice = JOptionPane.showConfirmDialog(parentComponent, "hello");That will bring up a dialog centered on parentComponent, with a message of "hello".
    It will have the default options (YES_NO_OPTION).
    What it returns is the option the user chose.
    There are 4 possible things it can return:
    YES_OPTION, when user clicks "Yes"
    NO_OPTION, when user clicks "No"
    ERROR_OPTION, when an unforseen error occurs and the dialog closes
    CANCEL_OPTION, when the user clicks "Cancel" (if that OPTION type were being used), or if they close the dialog
    So this is how you would check for CANCEL_OPTION:
        int choice = JOptionPane.showConfirmDialog(parentComponent, "hello");
        if (choice == JOptionPane.CANCEL_OPTION) {
            // User cancelled
        else if (choice == JOptionPane.YES_OPTION) {
            // User chose yes
        // EtcSo you see, going about it like this:
    if(JOptionPane.CANCEL_OPTION > 0  //or ==0 or ==1 or ==2, nothing works//)Is really the wrong way, because you're not checking what the user DID, but just what the constant variable "CANCEL_OPTION" is.
    However, it seems as if you're in a unique situation where you don't want the OPTION chosen by the user, but an input String.
    This is all well and good, but I think this limits how you can interact with the user, as the "showInputDialog" methods return the String the user input- not the OPTION they chose, and you need to use both.
    What I've done in the past is created a simple JPanel with its own JTextField.
    I pass the JPanel in as the "message" parameter of a showConfirmDialog call, and get both the user input and their chosen OPTION based off a getText call to the JTextField and the OPTION constant returned by showConfirmDialog.
    Basically,
    JPanel promptPanel = new JPanel(new BorderLayout());
    JTextField promptField = new JTextField();
    promptPanel.add(promptField, BorderLayout.CENTER);
    int choice = JOptionPane.showConfirmDialog(parentComponent, promptPanel, "Input", JOptionPane.OK_CANCEL_OPTION, JOptionPane.QUESTION_MESSAGE);
    if (choice == JOptionPane.OK_OPTION) {
       // User chose OK, see if invalid characters were entered
       String input = promptField.getText();
    else if (choice == JOptionPane.CANCEL_OPTION) {
       // User cancelled
    }Hope that helps.
    (note that I'm unsure if showConfirmDialog can accept OK_CANCEL_OPTION as its OPTION parameter, as it says only YES_NO_OPTION and YES_NO_CANCEL_OPTION can be used, but I seem to remember using it in the past. if OK_CANCEL_OPTION doesn't want to work, then use one of the other two and adjust your if statements accordingly)
    Cheers!

    So I want to know how a workflow work with scipt file?
    I also use some after create action script, but it looks only can get some error message and shows in th IDM.

  • Function with more than one return value

    Please let me know how to write a function with more than one return value and in what scenario should we go for this option.

And the following is the correct approach (using OUT variables is not!) - you deal with the multiple values as a data structure. This example uses an custom (user-defined) SQL data type as the structure.

  • NoClassDefFoundError  running jsf page rendering datacontrol return value

    Hi all,
    For a fusion web application, I have created a java file and converted it to a data control .The file has the code to establish the connection to an external SES endpoint and fetching the results.Dragged the return value to a jsf page part of a bounded task flow. The project has the Oracle SOAP jar in the classpath.Still when I run the jsf page ,I get the java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: oracle/soap/transport/http/OracleSOAPHTTPConnection exception in the console.Any ideas.
    Thanks
    Regards
    Deepak

    I guess I wondering whether issue lies with
    1. a "com.sun.faces.util.DebugUtil" that doesn't perform correctly...
    OR,
    2. a "rule" that says the component tree will not support multiple panelGrids on the same page.
    [For whatever reason, in the above example, "DebugUtil" does not appear to "see" the "id's" of the last panelGrid (i.e.,  id="panelGrid3"),  component or  its nested component  (i.e.,  id="panelGroup3" )]
    NOTE: I have neither been successful in referencing "panelGrid3" and "panelGroup3" using "FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().findComponet("panelGrid3") and "FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().findComponet("panelGroup3"), respectively.
    Could someone let me know? (My apologies if the answer is obvious ... I admit I am relatively new to JSF.)
    Thanks again!!!

  • Search row and column for return value

    Dear Sir/Madam,
                               I have a problem for searching spreadsheet and hope you can help me out a bit.  Im pretty new to Labview and Im currently using Labview 8.0.  My task is to search the spreadsheet I have attached in row and column-wise, then return the corresponding value out.  I had an attempt in doing this as you can see from the vi that i have attached.  I try inputting the 'read from measurement file' into an array and using delete, index and search array I will be able to find the index value for the relevant row and column that i searched for by inputting them into an index array with the orginal array from the 'read from measurement file'.
                              So ultimately, when i enter a row value of 0.5 and a column value of 0.3, my output will be 1.688.
                              I can't see any mistakes in my logic but I getting really strange results, like I can read my data has been entered into an array but when i try deleting the first column and put it into another array, the orginal array with nothing deleted is outputted hence making my search to give out -1 value. So could you take a look please and give me any suggestion that can solve my problem or enhance the code a bit.  Thank you for your time.
    Best Regards,
    Coato
    P.s for some reason i can't attached the .lvm file of my data hence i have attached the excel version but i think you need to convert it back to .lvm for the 'read from measurement file' function to work.

    Your VI makes absolutely no sense to me, but maybe I don't understand what you are trying to do.
    You seem to have dynamic data with 6 signals and 48 points/channel. Now you reshape this into an array of dynamic data with 4x13 elements from which you slice out one row or column, resp. "delete from array" is NOT the correct tool to do this, use "Index array" with one index unwired to get a row or column as 1D array.
    So you end up with two 1D arrays of dynamic data that you search for DBL. It is difficult to understand how you want to search for an array element that corresponds to a scalar DBL value of 0.1. Your array elements are NOT DBLs but dynamic data, each containing many signals!
    There are two elements on all your data that are "3", the rest are zero. You will never find anything that is 0.1.
    Maybe you can convert your original dynamic data to a 2D array with "rows are signals" using "convert from dynamic data", then operate on the 2D array.

    Sorry, Please explain.
    Please make a VI containing a simple 2D aray as diagram constant that contains e.g. 5x5 typical values. Let us know what kind of result you expect from your algorithm..

  • How to ceate a new Country key,currency ,version and value type for report

    hi,
    can you please let me know How to ceate a new Country key,currency ,version and value type for report
    along with tables and tcodes.
    thanking you

    Not clear on your comments
    How to ceate a new Country key,currency,
       version and value type for report
    because in one line you are saying you want to create Country Key, which means your requirement is in some transaction whereas at the end, you say for report.
    Can you let us know you want to develop a report and if so, from which transactions, you want to take datas.  You have to be clear on this.
    thanks

  • [UDF] if not exist input element, return value must be returned "nulltext".

    Hi SDNers.
    I need to make a UDF for special case.
    I made under UDF but it has a problem.
    When I delete a element in test, I expect to be returned the "nulltext" value.
    Let me know how to coding.
    - source code -
    public String One2One(String in1, Container container) throws StreamTransformationException{
              if (in1==null) {
                   return "nulltext";
              } else {
                   return in1;

    Hi
    Are you using the below code in the UDF??
    public String One2One(String in1, Container container) throws StreamTransformationException{
    if (in1==null) {
    return "nulltext";
    } else {
    return in1;
    If so it wont work. UDF itself a function and not possible to use a function inside a fn,
    Try the below code,
    if (in1==null) {
    return "nulltext";
    } else {
    return in1;
    Also "When I delete a element in test," -- wat does it mean?
